My Asus S45lb is a 4-5 year-old Laptop. Spec intel i3-4010U Nvidia GT 740M 6 GB ram (4gb ddr3 i sdram + 2gb ddr3 sdram SK Hynix 1TB WDC WD10SPZX-00Z10T0 500GB HGST HT545050A7E680 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ i notice that my laptop is running too hot when both cpu and dedicated gpu on a high load and the gpu thermal throttled. Granted it might be the cost of not cleaning and dust built up over those 4 years of usage. So decided to clean my laptop. Before i clean it, i took some thermal and performance test. Using R20 , CPU-Z for cpu, Heaven Imagine for gpu and hwi64 for recording temp. Previously i have upgraded my ram(integrated) from 4gb to 6gb by adding 2gb to the expansion ram slot and adding new hdd using caddy hdd to replace my dvd drive. before doing the cleaning procedure I’m well aware how to do it and make sure i understand what I’m doing by researching on the internet. So i’ve come prepared (so i’ve thought). After opening up the back cover, taking of the necessary screw that hold the cooling assembly and fan and also keep in mind what screw goes where, i’ve come to the part when u need to take of cooling block from gpu and cpu dye. I pull slightly and it wont came of, So i take my time to pull carefully with abit of force and finally it came of! but in my mind, i was a bit worried to take that amount of force to sensitive hardware that could possibly damage the hardware. The thermal paste was dry and the consistency hard like plastic. But after i carefully took bit of time using 99% alcohol (ipa) and cotton buds all of the old thermal paste slowly dissolving away. When i clean the cpu it was easy but when i do the gpu dye it was a different story. the old thermal paste is much harder also not only covering the dye but also couple of the small tiny surface mounted component on gpu. then I proceed to clean the fan and cpu/gpu block. and wiping away any dust from behind the mobo. After cleaning was done i used arctic mx-4 thermal compound to repasted my cpu and gpu with an adequate amount ( long line and a dot) and doing the crisscross pattern to screw that cooling assembly back on its place. Make sure everything was back in place then i closed the back cover. On the initial boot everything was a ok. Then i do the same test. First was 15 min idle temp and it passed that. Cpu-z 15 min it passed that. I took the laptop a chance to cool down to its idle temp before proceeding to gpu test but when heaven benchmark just started it suddenly shutdown. Then i cold boot the laptop and do the heaven benchmark. It does the same thing sudden shutdown. i opened back up my laptop and repasted the gpu and cpu. Then everything went okey again temp was good not even thermal throttling again! after it finish the test i even be able to overclock the gpu and didnt hit 80°c but for lifespan sake and thermal headroom i change that again to its normal clock. But the next day i have the same problem again when cpu on full load and gpu was utilized it suddenly shutdown again! I were on memu android emulator which take half of cpu and gpu performace. Then i open up my laptop again and put it sideways and took a giant fan and to blow into the laptop. Everything is ok even when i did the heaven and cpuz combo temp was fenomenal at only 67°c both cpu and gpu. But once i turn of the fan after 5 sec. It shutdown again! I took the precusion to disable my gpu using device manager and relay on igpu but after a couple hours of usage it sudden shutdown again! And noted that cpu and gpu temp was nominal. Never exceeded the t junction temp on hwi64. But it kept shutdown with no warning! My thoughts ? the problem its obviously caused by overheating then thermal shutdown but I don’t know that the components causes that I need your help! what is the problem ? How can i fix it ?

PC random shutdown and reboot all of a sudden with *no bosd while doing nothing (idle) or while browsing or watching YouTube on chrome. While gaming it does not have any issues, infect I can game 4 hours+ without any issues. It all happend few days after my yearly system clean and overclock tweeking, mainly increase core frequency from 4.5Ghz to 4.7Ghz and fine tune vcore by lowing offset voltage. But currently on stock settings but still sudden reboot. Sometimes it only happend once in a day but other time it can restart up to 5 times (like today it restated 7 times since afternoon). The restart can happend anywhere between hours to minutes after the last sudden reboot. Unable to provide system dump because there's no BOSD it's like someone turn off and on the main and quickly press the power button after that. By far the troubleshoot I have done Reinstall the driver that looks like it was the cause (Asus ai suite 2) - no luck Recheck cable connection - no luck Reseat CPU - no luck Change cmos battery - no luck *Change oc to defult - no luck *Check event viewer - no luck Memtest86 (3/4 pass (didn't run all) ) - no luck (all pass) Stress test (real bench, AIDA, prime95 (max stress), furmark, haven) - no luck Monitoring voltage in windows (hwinfo, AIDA hwm+, open hwm, asus suite) - no luck all looks fine (even on stress test) Monitoring voltage by molex using multimeter - no luck looks fine (even on stress test) *Monitoring voltage through motherboard - no luck all looks fine Monitoring voltage through ROG connect - no luck all looks fine Check temps - all looks fine CPU @ max load 70°C at stock (@4.7ghz @76-80°C?), GPU @ 72°C *Did a clear cmos and reapply my settings all the same. So I reset multiplier to auto and offset voltage (+) to AUTO (Basicly defult). But still the same reboot without any warning. *Event viewer only show 3 errors Error 1 audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0 Error 2 critical reboot, system has rebooted without shutting down first l Error 3 the system has previously shutdown *Motherboard voltage measurement through Asus ProbeIt measurement points System spec Motherboard: Asus Maximus IV Extreme Z Ya it's an old board but it's still gets the job done Latest BIOS Change this few setting Vcore load like calibration - 50% Vcore phase control - Optimized Vcore overload protection - 130% Voltage - offset (Defult - Manual) Dram settings (see ram) Second hand from my uncle and have been using since 2016 without any problem CPU: 2600k (Noctua NH U12P dual fan) 4.7Ghz @ 1.448v (max voltage on stress test) 4.5Ghz @ 1.4v Stock 3.8Ghz @ ~1.36v (current) (voltage auto) (CURRENT) Previously it was fine running at 4.7Ghz with an offset of +0.75 but I lower it till +0.55 and no crash. Hello. I am using this PC at work for video production: Cooler Master V750 Gigabyte GA-X99-UD3 Intel Core i7-5820K cooled by a Cooler Master V8 GTS 2x 8 GB Kingston DDR4-2133 Asus Strix Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 SSD Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. Everything is running at stock speeds, BIOS, drivers and Windows all updated. The problem is this: when using Adobe Media Encoder to export videos, the PC randomly reboots. No BSOD, no warnings, nothing. It just reboots itself like someone is pressing the reset button. This happens only when using the CUDA acceleration for the exporting. PC reboots even when working with Premiere Pro with effects or other things that use the CUDA acceleration of the GTX 970. Nothing happens when the CUDA acceleration is disabled. These are the tests we did to understand where the problem is: 1) Change the video card with another one in this PC and test the GTX 970 in another PC. The GTX 970 in another PC gave 0 problems, worked just fine. This PC with another graphics card still reboots in the same conditions. 2) Change the PCI-Express slot. Same behavior. 3) Test memory with MemTest86. No errors detected in RAM. 4) Test CPU with Prime95 and Aida64. No overheating issues, no thermal warning, nothing. 5) Test the GTX 970 in this PC with FurMark. In this case, it is much more difficult to replicate the reboot. Sometimes it reboots, sometimes it doesn't. 6) Change the PCI Express cables from the PSU. No effects or changes. 7) Format the OS. The problem started when we used to run Windows 8.1, persisted when we upgraded to Windows 10 (with a clean install, no direct update) and even reinstalling Windows 10 again. The CPU is OK, RAM is OK, the graphics card in another PC worked just fine. We didn't try with another PSU or another motherboard because we can't have other ones of these right now. Any suggestions? There is something else that can trigger those random reboots?

Hello everyone, Sorry for the long story. TLDR: PC instantly turns off without a notice or whatsoever whilst the power isn't cut off. First of all I want to say, I this topic is in the wrong forum category I'm sorry, but I'm not sure where else to put it. What happened twice now is that my pc shutdown unexpectingly, not really shutting down actually, just going black and... nothing. The weird part is that the power brick that it's connected to stays on, and the light that's connected to the same power brick stays on aswell. So my only guess is the hardware. In the windows event viewer all it said was: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." The previous time this happened I made sure the chord that connects to the power supply was tight in there and wasn't loose or anything. Now that it happened again, I'm clueless of what it is, I have been using this setup for 8 months or so without this every happening since a few days ago. It doesn't happen on startup or under heavy load aswell. Both times it happened after using my pc for several hours after closing my game. Previous time it was GTA 5, and this time League of Legends. Just 20 seconds after shutting down the game both times, but I'm not sure if this has to do with anything or was just a coincidence. One thing I could imagine is the motherboard failing, as I got it broken. Everytime I startup my pc it's a black screen, until I hit the reboot button under the power button a second later and then it boots up. This was becoming a habit and always worked aswell for all those months, but it could be that the motherboard is now really failing. All I really want the know is what could be the problem? And can I find in my event viewer or somewhere else a confirmation of my claims? Or any other software to test on system parts failing? Edit: Well whilst trying to get my pc specs through speccy for this article, my whole pc froze for about 3 minutes when I was detecting my CPU, even my mouse froze and Ctrl+Alt+delete didnt work. Speccy got terminated after 3 min and it started working again, so I just copied the specs from another post I had. But this might confirm my thoughts about the cpu/motherboard failing. Maybe worth mentioning: Whilst this happened I am only running: Chrome, Steam, Discord and Spotify both times. PC specs: Operating System Windows 10 Pro 64-bitCPU AMD FX-4100 62 °C Zambezi 32nm TechnologyRAM 16,0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 933MHz (10-11-10-30)Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC. Few hours ago, I disassembled a laptop in order to blow dust from it and change thermal paste. I assembled it again, turned it on, great - windows booted, working good, i checked temps, they were way lower than before. I restarted it to get into bios and install new OS, it gets stuck on the display that shows "Press F2 for setup, F12 boot options, etc.". Loading bar is loading, then just gets stuck. In the beginning fans are not loud, working as they should, after about 20 seconds, they just ramp up like crazy, and laptop shuts down. And now every time I turn it on, that happens. I read online that it might be a heat problem, but I am sure it is not because the fan is blowing cold air out and I JUST changed thermal paste, like few hours ago. Laptop is 10+ years old, not mine, guy wanted me to blow the dust and "refresh" the OS of his laptop. I am screwed. Please help. Laptop is Dell Latitude D630

Restart and update to stay in support Support for the Windows 10 April 2018 Update end in November 2019. Restart to install a supported version of Windows. [Pick a time] [Restart tonight] [Restart now] __________________________________________ Hate to be "that" person, but is this legitimate? Windows normally dont ask nice and discrete to be updated/restarted. The reason for my "paranoia" is the timing, as I just earlier today downloaded some Chrome extensions: a few google analytics & tag related. I also visited random websites to gain the knowledge to opperate them. Nothing alarming tho, general explainers of google analytics & tags, general explainers about website domains, general explainers about DoS. Windows Defender Security Center showed a yellow icon 3 sec ago, I clicked on it to see what it wanted to tell me. It then said "everything's OK" and turned green. Could just be random. The update message is overlapping the screen, so its on top which is unusual. It removed itself as I wrote this, and is now living in the notification tab in the right corner. Just wanted to hear what you guys think.

I am running a: cpu: i5 4670 mobo: Gigabyte GA-H97-Gaming ram: 1 x hyperx fury 8gb ddr3-1600 gpu: GTX 750ti ssd: Kingston a400 240 gb psu: EVGA supernova 650w 80+ gold My computer restarts unexpectedly, sometimes right after it POSTS, when Windows is loading, sometimes when I am using it. I already tried resetting the CMOS, and I don't think it is a HW problem because it never restarts will I am in the BIOS, only while using Windows. I also tried installing Windows again from different USBs and the same problem appears. My BIOS version is F7 which is the latest for this mobo.

Hey all, So just recently I have had unstable issues happening with my gaming computer, which each part is nearly 2 years old. Once graphics are rendered in any AAA game, the computer will unexpectedly shutdown and reboot. For a while I've had the CPU oc'ed to 5Ghz for around 1 1/2 years, and started noticing instabilities, and eventually set the values to default a couple months ago, but I am seeing crashes all the time now on default values. Only when I underclock the CPU to 3.0 Ghz, from 3.6Ghz, the system is stable to run and run 1 hour of Prime95. Here are the specs: SSD Wiped with fresh install of Windows 10 LTSC NVIDIA GTX 980 Intel Core i5 8600K 12G DDR4 RAM MSI Z370M Mortar Motherboard When looking through Event Viewer in System and Application, there is only NetBT EventID 4311 error once the computer boots again. Other than that, no other alarming events occurring. The only reported events from the shutdown is a Kernal-Power EventID 41: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." and Kernal-General EventID 20: "The previous system shutdown at "TIME" on "DATE" was unexpected." And no event occurs at or before the crash. I was hoping if the reason of the crashing is because of the CPU or not. My thoughts are is that the CPU was running oc'ed for too long now it's about to break. Thanks and peace.

My newly built PC starting to do random restarts! There are no warning no BSOD or whatsoever!! It is so confusing! Several things I've tried: Clean reinstall Windows Checking all drivers, everything seems fine Checked CPU temperature, ~30 degree Celsius when idling Here's my specs: AMD A8-9600 3.1 GHz APU MSi B350M Gaming Pro Motherboard G.Skill NT Series 4GB 2400MHz DDR4 RAM Corsair VS450 450W PSU I haven't installed any dedicated GPU card. The restart occurs randomly but it never occur when I'm gaming. As far as I remember it happens several times when I was using Chrome. Any help would be appreciated!

Summary: I've had this problem for a while now, and I've tried a number of things to fix it. Whenever my laptop goes into sleep mode, it shuts down unexpectedly somewhere in the process. I never had this problem with windows 8 or 8.1, and even after upgrading to Windows 10. This problem only showed up after doing a fresh install for a third time (first time wasn't working great, second time I installed Pro instead of Home). Using the keyboard after it is put to sleep or opening the lid does turn the computer on, so it is in some sort of weird sleep mode. Here's what I've tried: Upgrading BIOS Setting Power-Off Savings to Disabled in BIOS Defaulting Power Settings sfc /scannow Installing Windows 8.1 drivers Installing Intel ME 9.5 Uninstalling Realtek Audio Turning off Fast boot Hardware: Asus G551JW +i7-4720HQ +16GB RAM +nVidia 960M +250GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD BIOS version 207 Peripherals: Logitech MX Master HyperX Clouds v1 headset Files: Energy-Report.html (I can't upload it directly for some reason, so I'm putting it on google drive): https://docs.google.com/document/d/14Qu7oyF8uzXVg1-MGylxhATat4OvFkpRY9hE7CLOpA8/edit?usp=sharing Event Viewer Logs are attached There may be some things I've missed and if you need anything, let me know. Hello Glorious PC Community! I'm having a bit of an unusual scenario with my PC. I just have to say right now, I'm not a guru like everyone else is when it comes to building PC's. So keep it easy on me Also. so far I haven't had any sort of problems with my system like instability or slowdowns but I just want to get some opinions from the community if I should be even concerned of what's happening to my system. First of all I have the following: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P (rev 1.0) CPU: AMD FX-8350 @ stock speeds (strangely I can't find the product page from AMD's own website for this specific moded, but I'm guessing you know this chip already coz it's an old timer ) Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120v AIO RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (4GBx2) @ 1600 Mhz 8-8-8-24 GPU: ASUS Strix R9 285 PSU: Corsair VS650 SSD: Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB (the old "faster" model) HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB Sata II (yes, an old drive. recycled from an old PC ) Needless to say, this isn't the fastest rig ever but it definitely gets the job done. I have this rig for almost two years now, well except the GPU. It used to be a HD 7730. Now the "problem": Suddenly a few days ago, I booted up my machine, for my routine browsing and gaming. I fired up Task Manager out of habit to monitor my resource usage, and to my surprise the "Maximum Speed" detected by Windows is 4.02 GHz.I checked and it seems that it's indeed so. You can also see that CPU-Z detects a small increase in TDP - 125.2 W. That was just 125 before. Don't know how that's related but there you go. I checked the BIOS / UEFI and I think i got the "culprit". The BLCK Frequency is running at slightly higher than normal speeds - @ 201 Mhz instead of the normal 200 Mhz for this Chip. And with the Normal Multiplier, that would indeed result in a 4.02 GHz frequency. But what you will also see, is that I'm running everything at AUTO, which means I'm not overclocking the chip. This may raise the question why am I using an AIO. Well, its because I want to run my system as quiet as it can and be cool as possible as well. Okay, as I've said before, I have no errors, no BSODs, no detactable hiccups so far. Cinebench can complete its run. Prime 95 can burn the chip in without errors for an hour. I tried dialing-in the frequencies manually, just to try if it can be forced to run at the "normal" speeds again, but it still runs at an unusual speed of 4.02 GHz What do you think caused this, the motherboard or the CPU? and should I be concerned? would this be indicative of a failing component like the motherboard maybe? I have to be honest, I cheaped-out of the motherboard choice when I planned this build. Having said that, Gigabyte IS a reputable brand but I'm just not very confident of this particular model - but that's just me Let me know what you guys think. Sorry for the long post. Have a great day!

So I built a new PC a couple of months ago and this has been an on and off problem, but lately it has seemed to get worse. The problem is that the computer would lose power without warning and tries to reboot. This has been usually fixed by switching to PSU to the '0' position indicating off and then turning it back on after tightening some cables and the usual. But now even this fails to fix the problem. It occurs usually under slight load - playing games, small CAD work but can occur under 0 load as well. The reboot process goes like this - 1. Loses Power 2. Tries to turn on 3. LEDs turn on for 1 seconds and fans spin, including PSU fan. 4. Loses power again. 5. Repeat from number 2. I have searched online but no luck. People have suggested turning off some audio drivers, resetting overclocks and so on. Specs Below: CPU - i7-5820K (Used to be at [email protected]<script cf-hash='f9e31' type="text/javascript"> /* */</script> volts, was fully stable in my opinion. Reset CMOS a couple of days ago but still the problem exists) Motherboard - MSI X99A SLI PLUS RAM - Kingston HyperX Predator, 16GB @ 2133 The RAM is seated in the 2,4,6,8 slots on the board PSU - Corsair ax860i Case - Corsair 450D GPU - 970 G1 Thanks for any help!

I just recently purchased a Asus STRIX GTX 970 and I'm having frame rate issues: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/161073537/ArmA%203%2011.01.2014%20-%2022.55.38.03.mp4 Arma 3 runs at about 40 frames with everything on high set up all the way, but it will dip down to around 10 and completely freeze for a second (See Video). This was tested vanilla on a public server with friends playing fine.
