I am stuck, so I figured I'd bring this to the LTT community. I use an Alienware R12 (with Win 11) as my daily driver. Because it has a "Coaxial" SPDIF connection (via RCA) I dug out a hand-me-down AV Reciever (Pioneer HTD-510 -- I'm using newer speakers) that accepts a coaxial input. (I'm NOT using TOSLINK) I finally got the chance to set up the Center, and Rear speakers for the setup, and I have configured it in the receiver to know the (approximate) locations of all the speakers. I started to test it, by opening Paramount+ (the app) and streaming Top Gun: Maverick, where the surround sound works AMAZING! However, in games, and everything except a select few streaming platforms, all I get is stereo. Under the "Properties" tab for the audio device, I have DTS Audio and Dolby Digital enabled, and it works for the built-in audio test. It DOES NOT give me any option to "configure" or "set up" surround sound. Suppose I launch Forza, or anything else (anything that's supposed to work with surround). In that case, I am stuck with stereo (unless I have the receiver attempt to "fake" surround from the incoming stereo signal). Although this isn't the biggest deal (I don't game as much as I would like to, and I enjoy the shows in 5.1)--I would like to have a full surround while gaming and/or using the computer too. I have installed all of the latest drivers and software from Dell's website, and nothing has changed. All of the websites regarding a similar issue, everyone is using TOSLINK, which I understand that it has a limited bandwidth capability and that a proper Coaxial RCA connection (like I'm using) should be able to achieve what I want. Before someone suggests spending money on new parts (another soundcard or receiver) I'd like to try to fix this first. I had the parts lying around and decided to try to set it up. It works GREAT when it works, and from some quick Google-ing, it sounds like a software problem over hardware, as it's been proven to function properly. This has been quite frustrating, so any advice you may have would be HIGHLY appreciated! I appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi there! I've been given and older 5.1 sound surround system and I would like to use with my TV. The system consist of one sub-woofer with all the connections and 5 wired speakers (standard Spring Clips connector), now I would like to make the 5 speakers wireless I've seen some options such as Amphony Wireless Speaker Kit but they only support two speakers, also the extra receivers would need to be plugged it(they also aren't available in Spain where I live). The perfect setup for me would be wire free I don't mind if I would need to charge them from time to time(build in battery) but needing power cable from any type of receiver its a deal breaker, I can just run a speaker wire. Looking forward to your suggestions!

Hey guys, Does anyone know how to upscale audio on either Windows 11 or Linux (I dual boot, but am forced to primarily forced to use windows for Adobe) from 2.1 channel audio to either 5.1 or 6.1 channel audio? I had upgraded my crappy old dell speakers with some Logitech X-620s which are 6.1 surround speakers but can also run in 5.1. Does anyone know how to upscale my audio or is it just not worth it? I've been working on trying to get surround sound working literally all day. I have a reciever, and my graphics card is a gtx 1650 super ( which as far as ive read supports 5.1 surround). I tried running cyberpunk 2077 and all 5 of my speakers were working but the back speakers were just copying my front speakers. when i open the speaker set up in windows 5.1 is greyed out. i hope this makes sense my brain has literally turned to mush after trying to fix this for literally hours

Windows 10 Edu v.20H2 OS build 19042.685 Audio and GPU drivers up to date Computer rig in the sig 2080 Super (tested with both hdmi ports) LG CX77 (eARC disabled) Onkyo receiver with 4k passthrough + HDMI 2.0 (do not recall exact model at the moment) Tested: PC -> LG CX77 -> Onkyo receiver through ARC PC-> Onkyo receiver -> LG CX77 I am unable to narrow this issue down as it's been a few weeks since i've hooked up my rig to my surround system and TV. Since then I've upgraded Windows and made a few other major upgrades on this rig. I used to be able to get proper surround sound in games and the likes, however, no matter what the configuration is in now, I only get 2 channels of audio. The last time I was able to confirm this working properly was when I was on my x99 platform with the 6800k and the 980ti, also running an older Win10 version. Windows sound properties shows that while my unit is able to decode Dolby atmos, digital plus and a few others, it still only shows the available channels as 2 channels, L R. Bitstream surround audio works correctly with UWP software, all other software encounter issues with both bitstream and pcm. At this point, i'm not sure if the issues is Windows, the 2080 super, x570, etc. I have not gotten any closer to narrowing this down. Any suggestions as to what I could try? I want to start playing single player games on my TV again.

Can i have surround sound in my laptop i got 1 Aux Port, a usb c Port, and Many usb A (usb hub). if it is With a software :yes. okay if it can’t others.

For years now, I've used the old Panasoniq SA-DT100 (amp only) as my audio setup (the only part I didn't change when updating systems...). For me, the sound is great. But... it's only stereo (this setup doesn't allow 5.1 from another source than the accompanying CD / DVD player which I don't use). Since my USB soundcard, Xonar U7, has died after 3 years, I am looking for a new card. I was thinking about the Sound Blaster ZX (oldy), or maybe the new Sound Blaster AE-7 (32 bit / 384 kHz and DSD64 - quality mainly for my headphone). Internal card again for old time sakes. And, while updating this, I want to create a 5.1 setting using the speakers from the Panasoniq - I'm affraid throwing a few 100 bucks at 'computer speakers' will not provide the same quality as the speakers I'm using right now. In another topic (from 2016) I saw someone trying to create something similar, a 5.1 setup, using the Panasoniq set, but this didn't work out. So I do have a few questions: 1) I see a lot of people in favor of using a digital signal from the computer to an AMP like a S/PDIF, but... this one overrides the sound chips in the Sound Blaster. Is this still a better option than using 3 analogue cables (front, center, sub)? And if so, why bother buying a more expensive sound card (and not just a cheap(er) card with only S/PDIF)? 2) Can anyone recommend an amp which can be used for this purpose --> setting up a 5.1 system using the speakers from the Panasoniq SA-DT100 using three analogue cables from the Sound Blaster, or S/PDIF if this one is a better choice? These SA-DT100 speakers do have a special connector for the Amp output; I most likely have to strip these so there will be no jack which can be used to connect the speakers to the Amp, only the splitted wires. 3) Most likely I have to take into account the output from the Amp and the maximum Watt the speakers can cope with (sorry, I'm still a n00b on this one...) - 27 Watt center, 28 Watt front, 35 Watt rear amd 40 Watt subwoofer? I currently am setting up a surround sound system for movies on my PC, and I was wondering if I could even utilize it for gaming. I mainly play CSGO, PUBG, Apex, R6S etc. on my arctis 7, and I know CSGO has HRTF (what other games use this technology or something similar?). Back to surround sound. Do games even support real surround sound? and if they don’t, could I just disable my other speakers and use a 2.1 setup that uses HRTF (or something similar) while gaming? If not I can just continue using my Arctis 7 for gaming. Thanks

Hello, i have a new PC and i am using a 5.1 surround setup. My old Asrock motherboard sound driver had a feature that i could use for "faking" surround sound, so all boxes are playing, if the source audio is only stereo( for example very important for me youtube playing in my firefox). Now I have a MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC and the sound driver is kinda dumb. First Realtek wont come with an classic control panel in the taskbar and second msi pushes nahimic for which reason i dont know. In nahimic you can select virtual surround sound for music etc but it does not affect the web browser. Is there any software addon or whatever that achieves my requirement for playing my firefox youtube audio stream "upmixed" as "5.1 surround sound"? Ps: an av receiver is not an option, i dont want to go crazy just to get a simple feature that already exists(or at least it did)

I posted this topic on general troubleshooting but had no answers Hello guys I cannot setup my 5.1 samsung Hi-FI/blurey reader. I have DP into my monitor and an HDMI to the Hi-Fi from an asus strix 390 with an asus p9x79 Mobo on win 7 I tried to run from the Realtek but didnt detect and it was playing no sound even if in the mixer thing of windows you could actually see the sound bars go up and down. So I reed about Realtek conflicting with amd sound drives on win 7 so I disintalled realtek and the audio started working. If I go on Catalist the GPU detects 2 screens: one is my samsung monitor and the other one the samsung Hi-Fi. If you go to the far right of the screen the pointer goes away like it has another screen. The problem is that I cannot run it on 5.1 it just plays as stereo. What can I do?
