So, i have a pair of hd 650 and there is a supreme fx settings for 7.1, when i turn it on, it decreases the soundstage but also increases the volume a lot so its hard to hear the differences in sound quality. Should i just keep on stero for the best sound quality?

Hi guys, I just bought a pair of Senheiser HD 598 SR and I also happen to have a bunch of album in FLAC quality. so far I've just plugged them into my Motherboard because why not (I mean the volume is High enough and I don't need to plug them to my Speaker pre-amp (found in the dumpster, that I use to spike the volume of a standalone speaker I also found in the dump years ago and it's just a Mono speaker used on old CRT Television..)https://i.imgur.com/TACd36B.jpg https://i.imgur.com/gkNBMCA.jpg but since I have a Maximus V Formula with the SupremeFX audiocard(chip?) on board I thought what the heck, let's give it a try! I attached the screen of the DTS UltraPC II screen, I enabled it and it just feels like it spiked up a bit the volume and tones (like the Loud setting on the equalizer so to speak) but I can't tell if it's actually improving music or not) https://i.imgur.com/IVSCcNp.png I mean, should I just left the Equalizer on disabled and enjoy the FLAC music as it comes or I'm supposed to turn on those auto features to get the best out of it? I'm not looking for perfection, those headphones sounds wayyy crispy than the current setup I'm used to as you can see. it's just that since I have this sound card I'm like: why not use it good at least?! so what are you guys suggestion? Just leave everything disabled and listen to normal music or tweak something on the control panel? (or if there's a better software to tweak them)

Hi I want to know about this from people who are using G5. Could you say that is worth it to change from onboard to this? Is it like really worth it? I'm thinking about it greatly and I can't conclude an answer for myself. I use now ROG SupremeFX from my motherboard Asus Z370-F with HyperX Cloud's but maybe in the future I would change them to something like Audio-Technica ATH-PDG1. What can you say? To buy, or not to buy?

Down and dirty: realtek drivers are refusing to recognize the audio IO on the motherbaord, but work for the front IO (USB drivers for headset also work fine) the baord came with realtek supremefx drivers which weren't working (both front and rear IO), and i cant seem to find anywhere online Anyone know a fix or where to get the supremefx drivers?

Hi! Sonic Studio 3 is telling me that "The basic mode does not support the current default audio device. Please switch devices to continue using Sonic studio 3". I cant figure out how to make it work. Notice that it worked before and just won't work anymore after a soft windows reinstall I did some time ago.

Ive isntalled debian but i don't have any sound, probably because the motherboard is pretty new and the open source drivers don't support it yet. how do i install the drivers i need for this? im pretty new to linux and most of the information i could find completely overwhelmed me. i know basic commands such as sudo apt-get cd dir etc

I'm looking to downsize to mini-ITX, and am left with one final thing keeping me from making the switch. As the mITX boards only supply one PCIe-slot which is already spoken for by the graphics card, I can not make use of an add-in card and am stuck with whatever on-board audio the manufacturer saw fit to use. For one of my system uses, I rely on the 'stereo mix' feature of my current SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium (Creative calls this 'What U Hear'). Basically, a virtual audio source device that combines everything that is sent out of the analogue speaker port, and makes it available as an input device. It is imperative that the on-board solution of the new mainboard supports the stereo mix feature. Sadly, this is not something that the manufacturers seem to list in any of their specifications or manuals, from what I could find, so I'm hoping one of you has experience with my intended board or boards like it, and can advise me on this matter. I'm looking to buy the ASUS Z170I PRO GAMING, which features 'SupremeFX' audio based on Realtek's ALC1150. Does anyone know if this board, audio subsystem or codec supports stereo mix? Alternatively, can anyone suggest a mITX board with similar features that does support it?

I'm currently using a pair of Define R3s, and though the R4 had some sexy upgrades it wasn't until the R5 that I really started to think about upgrading my system. Not because I had to, but because I ccould. And because I had to build a lot of R4 and R5 systems for customers - why should they get all the shiny toys? Then came the Define Nano S, which made me think. Though they look quite sexy on my desk, those two systems also take up a lot of space. With the improvements in small and efficient hardware, mini-ITX might just be the thing for me! At first I looked at mini-ITX X99 boards. I'm currently on X58, and performance still isn't a reason for me to upgrade. I'm starting to feel the lack of feature support, though (originally, my system didn't even have USB 3.0 or SATA/6G support). At the moment, the 'enthusiast' X99 platform has a much less modern feature set than Z170. As much as Haswell-E might be worth the extra investment just to get a few more years out of it performance-wise, do I really need those extra years? I've probably got a few more years in my i7-950, but even so I'm itching to build something new. What's the point of spending extra money to make your performance last longer, if you then end up upgrading because other things have advanced to the point where your system feels outdated? Not to mention that if I plan to go mini-ITX, I'll likely only get two memory banks: so much for quad-channel memory. So here's what I'm looking at (and here's a convenient link to PCPartPicker!): CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor So Skylake then! Since I use my system mostly for games and Photoshop, an i5 would do me just fine. The enthusiast in me wants that i7 case badge though, even though I'd never actually stick it on my case and ruin the minimalist Scandinavian design. CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 106.1 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler The first and, really only AIO water cooler to ever impress the guys at SPCR. I've always favoured big air, but in a small case that's perhaps not the way to go. And if I can get better cooling and still better acoustics by calling the Kraken, that's my preference. I intend to go with front intake for this one, and remove the air filter form the case as it's a lot of extra resistance, and the radiator can do some of the filtering for me. Motherboard: Asus Z170I PRO GAMING Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard ASUS is my go-to brand for mainboards. The Z170I PRO GAMING offers the fan and USB2 headers I need for the X61, as well as a fan header for the rear exhaust fan. Should the NZXT software not be to my liking, I can always have the radiator fans run off a second case fan header with a splitter, and leave their control to ASUS' excellent FanXpert. Front USB3 for the case, check. M.2 PCIe on the back of the board, check. Above-average sound on-board, check. Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory Much as ASUS is my go-to brand for mainboards, Corsair is where I get my RAM. The low-profile heatsinks allow me to change to big air later should I wish to. The speed doesn't matter much, I went for the highest speed supported by the Z170I PG that didn't come with a large price premium over the speed option below it. Storage: Samsung 950 PRO 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Repeat after me: 'M.2 NVMe is sexy'. Sure, it's tucked away on the back of the board, and you don't get to see it. But the performance will be there, and I'll know about its elegance even if it won't be visibly apparent. Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive I'll probably just repurpose my existing boot drive, a 250GB 840 EVO for this instead. It's not a high-capacity storage drive, it's there for additional software and games, maybe to use as a swap drive. File storage all happens on my server. Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card Please, do not offer me advice about how AMD has the better offer in this price range. I already own this card, so it's going in there. Perhaps its successor down the line will, like its predecessor, be a Radeon card. Perhaps not. We'll see about that once my GTX970 is up for replacement in a few years. Case: Fractal Design Define Nano S Mini ITX Desktop Case The instigator. It looks sexy. It feels sexy. It's good at what it does. Now, I'm not generally a fan of windowed computers - not unless there's something in there that is worth seeing. With the high density of components in the small enclosure, there just might be something there to see (I hate big flashy cases with a large window, that are half-empty inside, or ones where you look through the window into a deep, dark hole). Lighting will probably have to be included if I go for windowed, but the jury's still out on that. I might go for the closed version. And I'll still want it to look sexy inside. No-one will ever see it. But I will know. Power Supply: SeaSonic G 550W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply 315 Watt is what PCPartPicker estimates this system will draw, and a PSU calculator I used showed a bit more than that. Taking into account reduced component efficiency over time due to wear and tear and a bit of extra power draw from overclocking, I feel that 500W will probably do me just fine. Even for future graphics card upgrades, mini-ITX obviously doesn't allow for SLI, and the trend has been toward more performance for less power. I'm not worried the 550W will last me a long time. That just leaves some details to be worked out. My remaining concerns are as follows: The GTX970 STRIX has a thick heatpipe sticking out the side, as well as a side-PCIe power connector. Fractal recommends against cards that are wider than the expansion slot bracket. Does anyone have experience with the GTX970 STRIX or other similarly-wide cards in the Define Nano S? Since I won't be using a separate pump and reservoir, would it be possible to mount the 2.5/3.5 HDD mount on the 'inside' of the case to show off the auxiliary SSD? Either that, or use the variable-width reservoir mounts to mount a 2.5" SSD. Again, anyone tried this in a Nano S? As much as I have faith in the quality and durability of Seasonic's G-series PSUs, their sleeved 24-pin cable ends in... a non-sleeved multicolour mess, for lack of a better term. Since those cables are hard-mounted on the PSU, does anyone have a recommendation for a PSU of similar performance, reliability and silent operation that comes with either individually sleeved 24-pin connector cables, a sleeve extending all the way to the connector or if anything, black insulation on the cables? It may not be an issue at all if I choose to go with the non-windowed case but if there is a prettier solution that doesn't cost a ton more, I'm all for prettier solutions. I am currently using a SoundBlaster X-Fi soundcard. Like most add-in soundcards, it features a Stereo Mix output option (which Creative calls 'What U Hear', which I'm sure they do just to annoy me. U is a letter, not a pronoun). I need that option. Since mini-ITX doesn't allow me to add a soundcard as well as a graphics card, I'm relying on the above-average on-board audio to provide me with this feature. Of course, ASUS doesn't list this kind of feature. So can anyone confirm that the Z170I PRO GAMING or perhaps the SupremeFX audio system in general has a Stereo Mix output option? So any answers to these questions? Other thoughts? Did I overlook awesome products, blinded by brand bias or by focussing too much on a certain feature? Any other random tips to make the new system even more awesome? As for the standard New Builds and Planning checklist: Budget is pretty flexible. I'm okay with adding a few bucks if it adds awesomeness. I'm okay with saving a few bucks as well: the budget doesn't need to be spent. Saving money is a good thing! Still, it's my hobby and I'll be using the machine on a daily basis for years to come. I'm not going to cheap out on parts. Location is the Netherlands, I should be able to get my hands on most stuff from most manufacturers. Aim is mostly gaming and Photoshop, but I also do some music stuff, some video stuff, some 3D modelling stuff. My current system (i7-950, 12GB, GTX970, details in the sig) still serves me just fine, the specs aren't really the issue. Monitor is one 1200p Iiyama now, but last I was at the computer store I swear that handsome ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q 1440p was beckoning me. Peripherals are all taken care of. If I get everything sorted before June, I should be able to upgrade an old Windows license for Windows 10. I'm one of the few people who actually likes Windows 10, so that works out well for me. Why am I upgrading? Because I can. Best reason ever! That turned into quite a post, so if you made it all the way down here, sorry for the long read!

I just got a new headset, a Hyper X Cloud. It seems really great so far, and the value is outstanding. However, I'm using the Maximus VII Formula, which uses SupremeFX. I could not utilise the impedance options when plugged into the rear I/O audio ports. I could only access it from the front panel jacks. Why is this? Isn't front panel audio inferior to the quality of the jacks on the back? Why is it that the SupremeFX software only allows these options from the front??!!

So i got a Yamaha Amp and decoder for home cinema all plays well good sound qualtiy etc, BUT i found out my ROG ASUS VII RANGER doesnt put out DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL via optical and i dont know why ... This picture is my amp if its on my pc in Assetto Corsa (wich has Dolby) link ( http://i.imgur.com/A6iXgPL.jpg ) And this is one on my PS3 wich also has Dolby on battlefield 4 link ( http://i.imgur.com/ztqce3E.jpg ) Does anyone know how to "force" my SupremeFx to encode DTS and send it to my decoder via optical cable?

I heard the DT990 Pro (250ohm) was very picky with what DAC you use and would it work since SupremeFX 2015 on the Maximus VIII Hero is advertised to be able to power 600ohms. Or should i get a proper DAC? And if, what recommendations do you have? To be clear i haven't purchased the motherboard or the DT990...yet considering it

Backstory Im thinking of getting the Hyperx Cloud headset and a Asus Maximus Ranger motherboard thinking "Ah this is great! The fantastic onboard audio on that thing is gonna let me use this headset without a soundcard" (many reviews have said that the cloud sounds lackluster if not equipped with a soundcard). The motherboard uses the "SupremeFX 2014" which is just a realtek sound chip (but which chip is unknown) made out of "better components" but of course asus doesn't tell that. Question But there might still be hope! "Sonic SenseAmp is a ROG invention that detects headphone impedance (below 65 / 65 ~ 150 / 150 or higher ohms) and adjusts the built-in amp automatically, for pitch-perfect listening right away!" And the Hyperx Cloud has a impedance of 60 ohms, does this mean i can still use it perfectly? And if not should i get a different headset (something like the cloud 2 or Asus Orion) or a better audio system?

Hi all, I've recently bought a HyperX Cloud headset and trying to use it with the onboard SupremeFX driver on my Maximus VII Hero. When I plug in the headset to the front audio jack on the Define R4 case, SonicSense within SupremeFX automatically detects headphone impedance. It will make a pop noise during detection, then conclude that the headphone is between 65 to 150 ohms impedance. However, isn't the HyperX Cloud a 60 ohm headset? The effect of this (I think) is it's making sounds by default sound very mushy and hollow(?) - i.e. like there's hardly any bass and lots of sharp tearing noises in games or music. (I'm not too good with audio, but this is very noticeable, especially since it is a gaming headset). There's no way to disable or change the impedance setting in SupremeFX other than to set the device as "Front Speaker Out" when plugging in, which doesn't disable my external speakers. SupremeFX driver is latest to date v6.0.1.7326. So my questions are: 1. Is this wrong impedance detecting bad for the headset? 2. Anyone have similar issues have any other suggestions (preferably without having to spend any more money)?

First off, i'll apologise for a bit of cross posting here, but i think this would be appropriate for the Audio category. I received my new Maximus VI Formula today and one of the forum members asked if I'd check out the audio quality, I've also purchased an Essence STX for this build so I've been doing some A/B tests today while I was testing out some of the other components I received today and the results are interesting. Firstly its worth remembering that any audio tests are very subjective. This was a fresh install of Windows 8 with both the SupremeFX and the Essence STX enabled at the same time with all default settings, no tweaks to equalizers or special modes were done. The audio sources i used were all lossless FLAC files and the earphones used are JHAudio JH16Pro Custom IEM's (IMHO the best earphones anywhere, period). The short answer is that now I've heard both the Essence STX and the new SupremeFX, I'd still thoroughly recommend that if you want good audio, go and get the Essence STX. I've never been the best at describing these things, but the onboard sound is just washed out compared to the STX, the base response, mids and high's are just more alive on the STX than the SupremeFX. Both showed no background hiss at all (something that the JH16Pro's are quite sensitive to) so the 120db noise floor of the SupremeFX certainly seems to be doing the trick. But overall the STX is noticeably better. Just be aware that your mileage may vary, personal preference, audio source and speaker/headphone/earphone setup all play a big part. But my preference is firmly with the STX.

I'm thinking of buying a asus maximus VI Hero and I have some doubts if the SupremeFX worth anything and if it is good

Ok so I'm planning to buy all my computer parts this coming Black Friday and i pretty much have all the parts picked out excepted I'm at a fork in the road; i cant decide which audio solution is right for me exactly? Yes i have read the FAQ and that helped lots but i need some opinions on stuff here. Basically what i have narrowed it down to is i either get the ASUS ROG Hero MOBO with is SupremeFX Audio and a bunch of other features thats on the MOBO that is not Audio related, OR the Creative Labs Z series sound card (specifically the Zx sound card) with the ASUS Z87-Plus MOBO. I plan on listening to music and mixing/making music from a non professional point (i just want too see if i like doing that kind of stuff), and if course i love to play my video games and talk with my friend through TeamSpeak and Skype. The current headset i use it the Razor Carcharias. But based on the research i did on audio these last couple days i planning on getting headphones w/ a separate mic. At this point im very confused at what to get so suggestions/answers would be fantastic, THANK YOU
