Poor Adobe Premiere performance on Threadripper
jphm95 posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Hi, Looking for some advice, we've just switched from a 2010 Mac pro to a Threadripper 3970x/RTX 2080 Super build with 64GB of Memory, and the switch has been poor to say the least. We're only dealing with 1080p footage but we've seen usability drop as we've moved from the Mac across to the Threadripper with an increase in dropped frames sometimes even on single clips with no effects. The reason we switched was predominantly due to the fact that the Mac was starting to struggle with 5/6 camera multi-cam footage but the Threadripper struggles to manage it even to a level on par with the 10 year old Mac. Both systems are running the same up to date version of CC and the Threadripper has NVMe SSDs for footage, whilst the Mac is still coping with HDDs. Even on exporting we're not seeing the gains we expected. We've run a number of benchmarks to make sure the HW is not the issue and they all came back with the expected performance, even a dip into DaVinci Resolve performed as expected. I know Premiere is known for poor optimization but I'd at least expect the 3970x to do better than a 10 year old Mac. Any ideas on what we could try to get a usable experience out of our new kit? and just to note we've tried fixes such as turning CUDA on/off, messing with the Nividia control panel, transcoding all h.264 footage- 1 reply

Hello everyone I need some help I have rtx 2080 super and 5600x Ryzen in a big case with 4 intake 120mm fans and 2 exhaust 120mm The 2080 is overheating to 84-85c and starts throttling to little below 1800 and goes up and down but the 84c stays constant. The CPU is staying between 50-60 mostly 50 with the fans on on half speed so in my mind the air pressure is ok in the case. Things I tried: Before the 2080 I had 3060 that was doing exactly the same but in a bit smaller case with 3 intake fans.( 2-140 1-120) I tried undervolting it but it didn't change the temperature I placed it close to the window so that it takes fresh cold air witch lowered only the CPU temps. Just yesterday I repasted it and fully cleaned it Drivers are up to date I've noticed that in Dx12 runs hotter but maybe is just placebo

This was an eBay card, I got a couple months ago, didn't really think much of it, But I occurred to me that the fans shouldn't really be ramping up incredibly high when booting and then back down. So I popped apart the cooler (which was already missing two backplate screws), and this is what I found. Some of these are just straight and missing, and I have no idea what I need to get to replace all of these. Looking at the state of some of these, I think I should just replace every single one of them. And before you ask, yes that thermal paste dripping all over the board is hard, I did not drip that across the board. I'm kind of embarrassed I didn't think to check this sooner, But it is high time I correct it.

With my RTX 2080 for the last couple months I've been getting random hang's / freezes while using chrome. Its been occurring with only couple tabs or when I've got loads open, even while typing this it froze I've been through quite a few steps up to now to try fix it, but to no avail. I have managed to pin-point it to my GPU though as upon freezing there is a new error within the event viewer from the exact time of the freezes - nvlddmkm (One of nvidia's files) My current setup is: 1 X LG 27GL850 180Hz 1 X LG 75Hz display (some older monitor) I7 12700K (at factory clock speed) 32Gb corsair RAM 3600Mhz RTX 2080 Gaming TRIO Corsair RM850X 1TB Samsung 980 PRO M.2 and a few HDD's The below is what I have done to try fix it (My system is already in windows "Ultimate performance" power plan) Re-install driver (Used DDU too) Different driver versions from 528.49 up to the most recent 531.41 Changed "Power management mode" in Nvidia control panel to "prefer maximum performance" Underclock GPU Overclock GPU (in the small chance of it fixing lol) maxed out "Power / temp limit" on afterburner for both the above as well as at factory clock speeds Ran SFC scan and DISM cmd commands to check windows updated windows Anti-virus off Tried Edge instead of chrome (re-installed chrome too) Changed PCI setting in BIOS to Gen 4 instead of Gen 3 uninstalled MSI afterburner Ran CCleaner to get rid of trash files / registry rubbish Closing third party background programs like CCleaner, vpn, steam ect Turned off xbox game bar Turned off GeForce experience "in-game overlay" One thing that stands out more is when I have web games or YouTube open, crashes are more frequent but when playing MW2 and livestreaming gameplay on maxed out settings or basic AF settings there are no freezes at all. tried edge (The worst browser I've ever used), still the same issue I lost a 2Hr+ DJ mix last night while trying to save it because of this issue so I really want to get this fixed asap Does anyone have any idea at all how to fix this?

Hi, everyone! Recently, I started experiencing stuttering in my games and Windows 10, so pretty much just everywhere on my computer. Ill be playing a game that isn't really hard to achieve high frames, like Darek Souls 3. and ill move my camera around, and it will kind of jolt without smoothly going to the destination from time to time. My mouse will randomly, but still kind of subtly, jerk itself in the direction that I'm moving it, instead of being smooth like it used to be. There are so many different variables that could be causing it, so in order for anyone to properly troubleshoot what's going on, i'll state my specs. Windows 10, 64 Bit Malwarebytes service is installed Intel i9 10900K, multicore enhancement is enabled, and all the limits are turned off. Noctua NH D15 cooler Asus rog z490 e gaming mobo Gigabyte rtx 2080 gaming OC windforce 32 GB G skill ripjaws v series ddr4 3600 CL16 RAM 1 tb adata nvme ssd bopot drive 2 tb samsung 970m evo plus nvme ssd 2 tb western digital hdd 850 W Gold+ EVGA power supply Have a 2560 x 1440p 144 Hz dell monitor and a 1920 x 1080 75 Hz monitor ReSize bar is turned on in bios Using afterburner on startup, just with the power limit and temp limit set to the highest value. XMP 1 is enabled Temps are great, cpu has a high of 79 degrees Fahrenheit in benchmark, GPU has a high of 77 degrees Celsius in benchmark My windows 10 is up to date, gpu driver is up to date, I've even done a clean install, pretty sure my drivers are up to date, too. maybe it's the resize bar feature in my BIOS? Also, I use razer chroma for my keyboard, and glorious core for my mouse. My bios is up to date as well. I don't have like any startup apps, other than discord and the software which controls my peripherals so it's not that. Anyways, this is a totally recent thing that's happening. The stuttering. IF you can help fix this, I'll venmo you $5 lol, you have my word! I Know I've probably left out some stuff, I'm just so flustered because I can't understand why my PC is doing this. I would be so happy if ANYONE can help me fix this problem, and thanks in advance for the help, seriously.

I'm close to buying this 2nd hand RTX 2080 but just noticed that one of the tracks of the PCI connector is a little damaged in one of the listing's photo. Could this be a serious issue? I asked the owner for a video showing the GPU working. If in the video it works fine, do I assume that the missing bit is no problem or could it still be? Thanks!

Is it possible to use a usb-c output to a thunderbolt 2 monitor? I have an RTX 2080 in my system and am looking at purchasing an Apple thunderbolt display. I am assuming I need some sort of adapter or certain cable, but I am unsure if it will work in the first place.

PC Specs: MSI Z170A Krait Gaming 3X Motherboard i7 7700K ASUS ROG Strix RTX 2080 A8G Gaming Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200MHz EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 Samsung EVO 970 500GB SATA SSD Windows 10 I feel like I've been at war with these technicians for 3 months now. I RMA'd my GPU after I was getting extreme artefacting, games were crashing within 30 seconds of launching, my Heaven benchmarks rarely completed and when they did, the score was super low and eventually, just booting up the PC would cause extreme pixilation and freeze on the lock screen. If I got past that, it would sometimes BSoD just idling on the desktop. Anyway, got the card back after they "repaired" it and it seemed fine. I used it for about a week and then all the same issues started creeping back in until I had to take the card out again cause I could barely use the system with it installed. I tried completely reformatting my SSD and reinstalling Windows and all the GPU drivers, tried using older drivers, NVIDIAs latest hotfixed drivers, none of them helped. I'm not an expert, but I'd say that kinda rules out software issues, right? Anyway, sent it back in and now they're telling me it's fine and they can't recreate the issue and they're trying to just palm it back to me. Getting really frustrated, cause obviously something is really wrong and I feel like I've done everything I can to isolate it to being a GPU hardware issue. I mean, my system works just fine without it installed. I don't understand what else it could be? And I have no idea why it wouldn't be acting up for them other than maybe it kinda gets better for a bit after not being used and takes a week or some of use to degrade again, like what happened when I first got it back. I just don't know what to do, I know I need a replacement and I have no confidence in their ability to repair the thing, I've given them ample photo and video evidence of the issues, so I don't know why they're refusing to issue the retailer a credit notice. Am I correct in that it's a GPU issue, or could it be something else somehow? And have I done everything I could to rule out software issues? I just wanna know that I'm in the right here and that they should be replacing the card, I don't wanna be unreasonable, I just want a working GPU as it's been 3 months since I was able to play games or anything. Has anyone been through something like this? Did it get replaced, and if so, how'd you get them to finally do it?

rtx 2080 How are my chances of repairing a broken rtx 2080?
CasperNS posted a topic in Graphics Cards
So i have upgraded everything in my system except my graphics card, since they're unatainable. Right now im still running on my old 970. I just saw a FB marketplace posting for a very cheap (<200 usd) used RTX 2080 strix. In his post he says that the GPU is making a whining noice and isnt turning on. So i was curious if anyone has experience with rapairing a 2080. Is it feasible to repair it or should i just pass on the oppertunity? I am somewhat tech savvy and have experience with soldering electronics, but i have never tried repairing anything as advanced as a graphics card. Also another concern i have is if i even will be able to determine what is wrong with it, since all my google searches came up empty. But on the other hand if i am able to repair it, i will be able to upgrade my graphics card for a very low price. Which is very appealing given the current market. -
I currently have a ASUS RTX 2080 Super Dual card. I was wondering if the Heatsink and Fans can be replaced with a lower profile one. As I am finding that the PCIe down is being block by this card. If it can be replaced, any recommendations on what I can replace it with. Thanks in advance.

Operating System: Windows 10 64 Bit MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Intel(R) Core(TM) I9-9900K cup @ 3.60GHz Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2080 8 GB WINDFORCE RAM 16 GB ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 280 72.8 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Bios: A.B0 All other drivers and windows updates are current. I'll add a link to my current build. Sorry, there aren't any pictures uploaded yet. https://pcpartpicker.com/b/9F3tt6 This is still a fairly new computer built in May of 2019, as of August of 2020 I upgraded to a new case with better airflow and upgrade my heatsink because the one I had before wasn't cutting it. I started having CPU overheating issues in June 2020. I haven't been able to determine what has caused the CPU to continually overheat. After the first go-around with the new case and heatsink, I was still getting temps easily hitting 100 °c with a 10% or less CPU load. We're talking within minutes of running Red Dead Redemption on the LOWEST settings. Idle temps were in the 60 °c - 70 °c. In September I had a tech come over and take a look, he came highly recommended by many of the people in town and some personal friends of mine. Did some updates, removed and re-applied thermal paste again, did a clean install of windows, and the idle temps dropped down to a happy 30 °c - 45 °c. However, the issue still wasn't resolved as I continued to see ridiculously high temps when running all sorts of games, Planet Zoo, The Isle, Red Dead Redemption 2, Jurassic Park Evolution, and all on low settings I'm still hitting 90°c even up to 100°c. I do not seem to have this issue with some other games such as Among us, or Final Fantasy XIV Online even during large raids with all graphics and effects as high as they can go. Additionally, my GPU temps have never been an issue, I think at one point the highest I saw them was 80°c before it dropped down in the 70s I am at an utter loss, the Tech couldn't even figure it out. I'm still new to all this computer building stuff as all the major components are from my very first build, the only thing that's changed since then is the case and heatsink. Is it possible it's a bottlenecking issue? Is it possible my CPU can't keep up? Though isn't that a little strange for an i9? Or have I overestimated its ability to handle what I throw at it? Or am I just SOL and have a crap build? If anyone has any idea please please please give me suggestions, a lot of the stuff I thought my system could handle with ease are unplayable for me. Also, please be patient and try to explain it like you're talking to a person new to the gaming computer world, because well I sorta am.

Hi, this is my first post here, so hope there's enough information for you guy to help out. I've always been enthusiastic about computers, from the hardware to software and all everything works, so I've been playing with hardware for a while now, but still need to learn a thing or two ( or a lot xD) Right now, I was hoping to get some help improving my build, which I assembled. I think it's getting bottlenecked because I might have some air flow issues. In the summer, when I was gaming sometimes it crashed due to high temps, which I suspect having two reasons. 1st would be the case is too small or I overkilled it with the CPU Cooler and the 2nd would be because the room where I was (an attic with small window) would get really hot. Because its cleaning season, before I started I was hoping to have some tips where I could improve this system and why. (It definitely needs some thermal paste right now). Hope you guys can understand the photos. Country: Portugal Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Overwatch, Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, Service Studio - OutSystems (Programming Tool, very CPU/Memory demanding Chrome style), VSC My Build Thanks a lot P.S. Sorry about the cable mess. I suck at cable management...

im starting to lose my mind here... both COD warzone and cold war are not reaching frames above 70 even on the lowest settings. if i crank it up to ultra it just goes to 50 and 40 fps. i dont know what this is about but with an rtx 2080 and with literally no other game affected i have to just stop bashing my head against the wall (literally) and post about this. this is my full specs list intel i7 4790k 4.00ghz zotac 2080 amp extreme 2000mhz xpg m 2 SSD 500gb m.2 + 2tb HDD Kingston hyperx fury ddr3 1866MHz 16gb (2x8gb) msi z97 gaming 5 motherboard yes i know its an old mobo/cpu/ram but for now it will have to do (i had everything brand new since they came out 6 years ago except the 2080) im literally desperate for any help. friends of mine are getting 200 fps constant with dips to 180-170 with a 3080. i cant even get up to 80. i tried everything from overclocking to underclocking to restarting to resetting to formatting my whole computer. nothing ever helps. its not logical to get 60 70 fps average with lows as 40s on an rtx 2080 with a 4790k... please help. any input is appreciated.

So back when I still had the card relatively new, the temps wouldn't go above 60c at full load, with the fan speed running at about 70% speed. However to my dismay I have now noticed that my GPU even goes as high as 80c under full load (and thats with the fan speed being about 90% mind you since I increased the speed in an attempt to remedy the issue. Not much luck so far) I have tried to fix it by disassembling the card, cleaning out the old thermal compound and replacing it with a fresh layer, yet the issue still persists. I have also thoroughly cleaned the heatsink and the fans to the best of my ability to no avail. I am using the Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow Edition case so I highly doubt airflow is the issue either. I could really use all the help I can get here as honestly I'm just out of ideas by now. Not to mention the fact I am planning to sell the GPU once my RTX 3080 arrives since I pre ordered it and I can't just sell a faulty GPU to someone. Please help.

Hi fellow LTT forum members! Yesterday a very sad thing happened to me. My one month worth of income RTX 2080 died on my while computer was restarting after windows update. I have a suspect on the killer and I would love to hear if you agree or don't that it is possible. So the basic information: I have a fully water cooled system and almost next to it is my room heater (the temps were always fine, the air inlet was never above 30C I meassured it). So yesterday, I sat down, turned my computer and my roomheater on at the same time. The heater heats up pretty quickly and the original ambient temp. of my room was 15C. The computer started up properly, but then I met with everyones best friend: Windows update. It did a restart at the end and thats when the crime happened. My fan inlet temp was 26C at this moment. When the system tried to turn back on, I heard a click from my PSU. Then it turned on again, and an other click. It was off for at leadt 10 second both time. When it turned back on the third time, it remained on... and my debug LED on my x570 prime pro stayed on the white led, wich is labeled VGA. Could it be that my water temp was under my fan inlet temp, and condensation killed my graphics card? And if it, can I fix it somehow If I can't see any physical damage? I live in a country where right to repair is not a thing and becouse I disassembled the card, i don't have any warranty on it.

Greetings, fellow tech enthusiasts. Do I have to do anything in Windows 11, like uninstall drivers, etc when upgrading from a rtx 2080 to a rtx 3080? Maybe even going to device manager and removing the rtx 2080 and any traces of it, or even reinstalling windows? Anyways, I just am curious if there is any sort of software/bios thing I should be doing when upgrading a GPU while maintaining the same manufacturer, Nvidia. Is it just as simple as swapping out the card? Thanks, in advance, for your reply. I apologize for the seemingly lack of effort, I just don’t really know how to put what I’m asking into words.

Hello everyone, I have this problem that really grinds my gears. Apex Legends is the game i play the most, but it also happens on wz 2.0, less notable but still. My system: Asus Tuf b450m plus gaming Ryzen 7 2700 (not X) Zotac RTX 2080 (not super) 2x 8GB DDR4 3200 Corsair Vengeance (DOCP enabled) SSD samsung 970 evo plus PSU is a sesonic gold plus 750w Monitor Benq xl2411 1080p 144hz plugged via DP 2º monitor is a 60hz HP, 1080p also connected by DP The temperature of the CPU and GPU never goes more than 85ºc The problem: When I'm playing Apex Legends 1080p with everything on the lowest possible quality settings, no v-sync and NVIDIA reflex doesn't matter if its off, on or on+boost, i'm always under 120fps and the worst is that from time to time (but in the same match on every match) it stutter for like 0,5 seconds and it really ruins the experience for me and I fell that with the hardware I own and the settings I have it should be butter smooth, am I wrong? I've used DDU unistaller and have reinstalled the graphics drivers, windows is always updated (windows 10 pro ATM), yesterday I've done a fresh install of the OS, installed only the drivers + the Apex game, the problem still there. I've also disassembled and reassembled all the components to minimize bad connections. I don't know, what else I can do. Any ideas? Thanks a lot to those who spend time to read this post Much Love LTT fam.

Heyo, I'm starting to see faint horizontal lines in my main monitor but not on my 2nd monitor. It's hard to capture with a photo but it's barely noticeable to my other family members but I can see it (probably since I spend a lot of time in my PC). It's most prominent on white-grey backgrounds and barely noticeable on darker backgrounds. I have a Acer XB271HU and I'm only getting the lines on the whole screen when I set it at 144hz refresh rate. When I drop it down to 60hz most of the lines disappear (i can still see a few at the top). I've tried power cycling my pc with all connections removed and updated my drivers. Is this a bad HDMI Display port cable or is it something worse? Edit: I've also tried switching ports and flipping the HDMI Display port cable. Either no difference or the display just won't load at all. Edit 2: I'm using DP cable instead of HDMI.

I am currently using a budget Corsair CX650 for my rig which consists of the following: i7 9700k which standard boost to 4.6Ghz all cores 4.9Ghz single cores (HWMonitor showed it using up to 130 Watts as it auto clocks to 1.35 - 1.36V) Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB DDR4 Gigabyte RTX 2080 Gaming OC which auto boosts to 2000Mhz clock speed at times but generally settles at 1960Mhz from stock OC mode of 1850Mhz (Uses 230-250 Watts I think) 1x m.2 NVMe 2x SSD 1x HDD LED strips Quite a few USB peripherals 1x 240mm AIO 4x 120mm fans Before you link the PSU Tier list I have looked at that extensively and can't settle on whether I need a 650W PSU still or a 750W now or maybe even an 850W to be extra safe but could lose efficiency? I have tried several PSU calculators but I think a lot of them seem to just recommend 1000Ws which is overkill. TLDR; Should I go for a Corsair RMX 650/750/850 or the Be Quiet! Straight Power 11 Gold 650/750/850 ? thanks in advance

I reinstalled windows to fix the audio driver issue and I also expected few performance gains but after doing Deus EX Mankind Divided benchmark (Because that's the only benchmark result I remember and I ran it multiple times in past) I saw 2-5 FPS drops, I did this benchmark multiple times and yet the results were the same. Should I worry about these single digits FPS drops? I remember while I was installing windows I messed up boot priority because it was my first time installing windows so I had to force reset (Holding power button) multiple times, I did it probably 3-4 times. Is this the cause of less FPS? Does force reset damages hardware? Also once my PC booted it took almost a min or 2 to recognize my secondary drive where my games were stored which is also worrisome. Here's Unigine Superposition benchmark just in case if anyone here has similar build like mine and can compare these results.
