Hello, Internet, I am new here in the forums and also I just built my first PC. Please forgive me if such topic was already discussed here but I used search and unfortunately could not find the answer I am looking for. So basically as a new PC user I am struggling to understand how GPU and software (game in this particular case) communicates between each other. For example I launch a game, choose high quality graphic settings, because I know that my GPU can handle it. And then upon starting to play I get for example 90-100 FPS and 95-98% GPU load. This increases GPU temperature to around 65-67 degrees Celsius and ramps up the fans at about 86-88%. Fans at this speed is quite noisy and I would like to avoid that. But on the other hand I read that keeping GPU at 70-80+ temperature may shorten it's life span. So I can not just change the fan curve and let GPU get hotter than 65-70 degrees, right? The solution I came up for now is to turn on V-Sync (yes, I know that usually it's even more additional load) and it locks my FPS to the 60 (I have 60Hz monitor) and that way I get lower GPU load at about 70-80% and this solves the temperature and noisy fan issues. This way my GPU temperature does not goes more than 48-52 degrees and fans stays at comfortable 60-70% speed. Sorry, if that sounds like a beginners' gibberish but I am simply trying to understand if all games tries to push for as many FPS as specific GPU lets them while at max load (as in GPU benchmark behavior), and the only option to lower the fan noise in such cases (apart from somehow locking FPS) is to change the fan curve and deal with hotter GPU? Thank you in advance for your inputs.

I recently bought an used 4770. In my motherboard bios (MSI B85M-G43) it says, that cpu ratio status is unlocked. Should I consider buying Z97 chipset motherboard?

I have an i5-4690k and an MSI Z97s SLI Krait Edition motherboard (updated to the latest BIOS, of course). My RAM is 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance LP 1600 (set to 1333 MHz per the instructions on the OC guide by @BigDay). I have successfully stress tested my CPU at a 4.6 GHz overclock without touching the cache ratio or anything else, and it was stable. I am following the haswell and haswell-refresh guide by @BigDay). When I attempt to do anything to the CPU Cache ratio, the system has instability. I have gone as high as 1.4v for Vring and 2.02v for VRIN wth a cache ratio of 36, and still no cigar (I get the BSOD). It seems that if I even try to touch the CPU cache ratio, the system is unstable. Otherwise it is fine. The problem is that the core ratio is 46 and the cache ratio is 35 (that's the most stable core overclock and cache ratio I found). I know there is supposed to be a 1:1 (or close to it) ratio, but currently my system is nowhere close. What can I do? Thoughts?

Hello, I'm finding a lack of simple to understand data / guides for matching complimentary monitor sizes at native resolutions to currently owned models to other sizes... In laymen terms: If someone is acutely aware of how monitors differ in size and resolution don't always match up even with windows 10 scaling. How would they find information for finding a good matching monitor size when purchasing a new monitor? i.e. If someone bought a laptop with a 15.6" screen with 3840 x 2160 resolution and has a 24" 4K (3840 x 2160 resolution) monitor... you'll find that no matter what, your mouse curser and window sizes will never match cross screens even with all the bells and whistles set correctly in windows 10. (PS: this isn't for how to troubleshoot that scenario, this is a valid situation that happens all the time with different sized monitors.) So the guide would be helpful in helping people quickly pick out which monitor sizes compliment other monitor sizes. Like: 1080 x 1920 17" screen size would be complimented by a ____ x _____ __" screen size PS: Yes I know most people just buy 2+ monitors that match in models etc... But this could be helpful for those with existing monitors or laptops and looking for a bigger 2nd or 3rd monitors. PSS: This would be a cool video idea for LTT to make too.

So most DSLRs don't support anything besides a 16:9 aspect ratio (or 4:3 sometimes.) I thought that's just how it is and the reason why movies have a 2.35 aspect ratio cause of the cinema level cameras they were shot on. When I look up other videos that use red camera's yes they have letterboxing but they also have sidebars. These videos on the other hand completely stretches out my browser when I pull my browser out and goes top to bottom with on letterboxing when my broswer is stretched out and the letterboxing comes back when I pull the browser back in. 2.Explanation on how one would look to get a real 2.35 aspect ratio look and act on youtube instead of just putting in letterboxing in the post. Like do u need a cinema-level camera.

Hi Guys So I fired up Need For Speed Most Wanted 2005 because I found the disk in one of my draws during a clear out. However I realized the maximum resolution is 1280x1024, and it looks awful because its stretched over my screen. Is there a way to force 1920x1080 or at least change the aspect ratio to stop the stretching? Thanks

I have 5820K on ASrock X99 OC Formula motherboard. When I go to bios and manually set Maximum CPU Cache Ratio to 33 (default for CPU), bios automatically disables C-states. If I go back and enable c-states, then windows 10 boot fails - computer just turn off automatically before showing login screen. Does 5820K support manually setting Cache Ratio with c-states on? Is this a motherboard or CPU issue?

Will be doing a build with NH-D15 + Define R5 soon (might make a build log who knows) And I'm all about silence (Got a Asus Strix GPU and Corsair RM series PSU just for their fan off ability) I'll likely be controlling the NF-A15 fan with SpeedFan and try and see if I'm lucky enough to control the Dynamic GP14 fans (dang it 3 pins). Now obviously turning them completely off is probably a bad idea, need some airflow at least, so I'd like to know if anyone tested 140mm fans to see just how low of an RPM they should go before it's not worth it anymore to lower it any further as airflow will go way down? Specifically the NF-A15 and the Dynamic GP14 fans, how low of an RPM should I go before turning them any lower won't be worth the extra silence cause airflow would decrease too much? Or does airflow and RPM follow a linear curve? All replies are appreciated thank you!

I bought deepcool tesseract case which has six places for case fans but i will put just 4: 1 x front -fan came with case, used as intake 1 x rear -came with case, used as exhaust 2 x top - no fans currently, does have mesh filter 2 x side - no fans currently, does not have mesh filter i have 2 extra 120mm case fans i can install and a hyper 212 evo cpu cooler that i'm installing as well So my question is, for best cooling, and to minimize dust intake, what would be the best setup for intake/exhaust. I do believe that it is better to have more intake that exhaust, so should i have 2 in, and one out? or 2 in 2 out? Also, if i did go with the ratio of 2 in 1 out, is there a way to utilize the last fan, as like a pull/push on the rear exhaust (pulling air to rear exhaust fan and the exhaust fan blowing out). I'm looking to get the most out of the fans as far as cooling, yet minimize the amount of dust intake. suggestions?

I'm looking to buy a new monitor. I noticed some monitors have like a 1000:1 ratio. But some, such as the BenQ RL2455HM have a huge 12,000,000:1 ratio. Is it better to have a higher, or lower contrast ratio. And what does the ratio even mean?

Okay so I have a BenQ GL2250. It's a 1080p TN panel. The colours on it look absolutely fine to me, the look pretty accurate and in comparison to a TV I have, are very full. The specs are as follows: 12M:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio 1000:1 Contrast 250 cd/m2 However, while looking at some Korean monitors, I found that a PLS had a DCR of 50k:1 and an IPS had a DCR of 2M:1. I thought Dynamic Contrast ratio was the difference between max and min colour output. I thought it was what made whites white and blacks black and reds red. Can someone explain to me why therefore, my TN appears to have better colour reproduction than an IPS?

Hi, I was trying to view the topics discussed in this link, but somehow I cannot open it. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/278610-display-technology-faqmythbuster/ My question is, would a Samsung S27C350 be a great upgrade from my HP 22fi? I am kinda bothered because the S27C350 is on TN panel, and I like how IPS balance its vibrant colors. I know because I use my IPS at home, and an S23C350 at work (it doesnt suck so bad, but it really falls behind). But now I am on a dilemma because I came across (for me atleast) a great deal of 200USD for the 27" samsung monitor. Please let me know if this will be a better upgrade or not. I like IPS panels, but I also like bigger sizes also because I watch movies frequently. Help me pick:/

Hi this is my first post. I wasn't too sure where to post it but since it involves radiators I thought I would put it here. I am in need of an major upgrade soon and I was thinking I would try doing a fully custom water cooling loop since I use a h100i at the moment. I've been doing my research and I'm going to swap out my coolermaster 690 ii for a white switch 810 with some other colour like green or red, maybe even both. I basicly need to know what white fan that works well on a radiator but with a low amount of noise. Budget is not an issue as of now. Also could you please include what radiator the fan works well will (low fpi or high fpi) My build will be a new haswell i7 CPU and 2x gtx 780 (surround gaming on bf4) All kinds off advice will be very much appreciated.

Hi guys! I was looking around for a work laptop and could not find a new 16:10 laptop. I prefer it over 16:9 due to the extra vertical pixels for web browsing as well as less wasted space on the sides. (especially 1366 x 768) What do you guys think?

Hi guys! I'm coming here with a special request. Not money or anything of value, so it should be CoC complaint. I need a Photoshop wizard to please give me a hand. I'm getting together with a CS GO team, we've been trying to make a team logo that we can use as display pictures for Cyber Gamer and personal but all we've come up with is crap. If anyone is keen on lending a hand, just in your spare time, I'd really appreciate it. Our Tag is Rat' Tio and our name is Ratio Decidendi. Ratio Decidendi being a law term for the reason behind doing something. Looking in some way to implement the scales as being the logo and would just like to just have the Rat' Tio tag underneath it. I'm open to ideas and suggestions for the design, nothing is set in stone. You totally don't have to help me out but I would really love it if you could spare some time. I'm likely to sling a $20 game to the designer Here's some of the logos in the league. We quite like the professional aesthetics of Enhance, auXesis, youFRAG, and others similar. At the moment this is as good as we can do: Yeah, It's really bad :P

I don't know how to change my aspect ratio, my screen is zoomed into 16:9 on my 19'' tv that i am using. And when i go into my display setting and try to change the scaling there is only three options 'scale full screen', 'center image', Maintain aspect ratio'. also when i change the resolution it does nothing, any help would be much appreciated.

I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable when it comes to tech stuff, but I don't know a lot as well. I need a bit of help regarding torrents. Seeding: I get that you're uploading data you've downloaded, but are you uploading it directly to a person that's leaching? Do those people have access to your connection details and IP? I use a VPN connection when downloading. Ratio: How much should I seed and what ratio should I maintain? Most of what I see says to keep a 1:1 ratio - which makes sense, as you're uploading as much as you've leached off other users. However, I see others saying to keep a 2:1 ratio. How exactly would that even work? How can you upload more than 1:1? Would a 1:1 Ratio not mean that you've downloaded the entire file, and then uploaded all those chunks for leaches as well (assuming you downloaded the torrent 100% in this case)?

I was wondering how would one go about overclocking a Xeon E3 1230V2. Does it support limited multiplier overclocks up to 4 bins like the i7 3770 ? Can the multi core enhancement features that force all cores to run at their maximum turbo at all times be applied to it ?

I work for a great couple that own and run 3 coffee shops in the bay area. We are very popular with constant growth. That said we have some pretty poopy systems to work with. I've been an Assistant Manager at one of our locations for about a year, and I'm steadily becoming their tech guy. I've overhauled our website, spearheaded our POS system, setup wifi networks, taken on machine maintenance, and other semi basic tech projects. I want to propose an overhaul on our systems. We have 3 locations, each needing a system for basic office work. I'd like them to run windows 7 with the option to upgrade to 9 when it's released. I was thinking of just suggesting a few Nucs. They seem to be the right price, but I'm concerned they'll be incompatible with our VGA monitors. Is there a more efficient price/performance ratio that could be achieved with a custom built system? If you'd like to take a stab at a build/parts list (no peripherals), post it here. Thanks to all who take the time to help. Each systems needs: VGA (or even HDMI to VGA adapter) support 128GB Storage (EDITED, SORRY!) 4GB ram

I have posted questions similar to this today and I just need a final answer now. I am getting a new gpu But idk if I should get a 290x, 290 or 780 There is an XFX 290 for $399 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=26347&cPath=877 An ASUS 780 for $599 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=24153&cPath=876 And an XFX 290x for $549 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=26345&cPath=877 I know the 290x the best performer the majority of the time. But I'm worried my pc wont have enough wattage. I have a Corsair RM650 PSU. Will my pc be able to run the 290x and what is the best "bang for my buck" Any help?
