  1. I heard that there is an unstability when we use 4 channels of ddr5 ram is that true ?
  2. Since DDR5 has integrated dual channel a single stick is enough to be running in dual channel mode. Does that mean having one stick will have very similar performance to running with two? I know 2 would then have quad channel, but am unsure how much of a difference that makes. has anyone benchmarked this? For context I'm running a sffpc that for clearance reasons due to my AIO I am forced to only have one stick and am wondering how much performance I'm leaving on the table.
  3. I've been thinking to upgrade my RAM. My current setup is i7-7820x, ASUS x299, ASUS 1080ti turbo and 2x8 2133. I mainly play games and I've seen people gained up to 40 fps in COD: Warzone using faster ram in high-end rigs. so in my case should I go for a 2x8 faster RAM or should I get another pair of 2x8 2133 to run it as quad channel?
  4. Hey everyone! I bought this PC back in 2013 and decided to give it a RAM boost before I can't buy the stuff anymore... I know... it's old... but it still serves a great purpose for gaming and will ultimately be my personal Minecraft server for family members. Specs: Intel Core i7 4930K Ivy Bridge-E @ stock 3.4 GHz Asus X79-DELUXE PCI-Express 3.0 RAM (new) - DDR3 4x G.Skill F3-1600C9D-16GXM (with 4 more on the way) - 32GB total in QUAD Channel (yes, really QUAD, not Dual x2) Radeon RX 580 8GB Corsair Air 540 case with plenty of air cooling Cooler Master Hyper 212 (or something similar) - plenty of cooling for stock! All drivers and BIOS are up-to-date. So I bought this thing with the intention to overclock but never have... hence the extra cooling case. This thing had F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL G.Skill RAM (4x 4GB 16GB total in QUAD Channel) and ran flawlessly for years. I recently started hosting Minecraft for my children and nieces/nephews (and me too!) just to have family time. It's been great... These minecraft servers eat RAM so I decided to upgrade the ram from 16 to 48GB. I was using the F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL G.Skill RAM (4x 4GB 16GB total in QUAD Channel) in addition to 2 sets of F3-1600C9D-16GXM for a total of 48GB of RAM. Yes, I know mixing the rams was a gamble, but they had identical timings and speeds (DDR3-1600 @ 9-9-9-24 @ 1.50V). I figured it would work great. Loaded the 4 new RAM (total of 8 slots all filled). Yes, I followed the motherboards guidance for the RAM slots to use for quad channel. Booted the BIOS - turned on XMP, and booted windows fine. Ran Prime95 Blend with no issues. Started to play games - Dirt Rally 2.0 - crashed... The Forest - crashed. So I took all the RAM out, and then installed JUST the new F3-1600C9D-16GXM in the proper Quad Channel slots in XMP (now only 4x the new ram installed in quad)... Again crashes during games... When I turned off XMP, the RAM runs at 1333 MHz and it ran with no issues and the games run fine with no issues. What is going on here? I looked up videos on how to tweak RAM, but honestly this Asus X79 has so many overclocking settings it is rather deep. I always wanted to manually dial things and tweak things but never dove into it. I know it's an art and it takes patience, but honestly this thing runs like a beast and I never needed to do anything other than upgrade the video card to support larger VRAM requirements. I am very advanced with computers, although I just never dove into the deep BIOS settings to tweak everything. With the advent of Turbo modes and multipliers for the CPU/RAM etc, I just figured I'd leave that for a rainy day... Perhaps it's that day. Can anyone explain why this is happening and what I gotta do to get these RAM chips to at least run at their rated XMP profile speeds? I tried manually increasing the DRAM voltage to 1.55 just to see if that would help, but I still got crashes. I attached some screenshots of CPU-Z and MaxxMem. I ran benchmarks at 1333 and 1600 MHz.
  5. Hello there, because of the fact that I couldn’t find any information with the help of google I’m gonna ask in the forum of my favorite YouTube channel . I’m gonna upgrade my pc soon and I’m curious about that one thing that keeps bothering me. Because my “upgrade” is gonna be a MSI X99A with an I7-5930K and this setup supports Quad Channel due to its 8 slots and its overall compatibility I’m interested in what’s that all about. And because this is an upgrade from DDR3 to DDR4 I need to get myself a couple new ram modules. I want to go with 1x 16gb first and add more ram whenever it’s financially possible for me. Is this a good idea? It would stay like this for approx 1-2 months until I can add more ram. And does quad channel mean that you’re only getting “full” performance when you’re using 4 rams instead of 2 (for example 2x16 or 4x8, which configuration would be better)? I’m gonna list my current setup below. I’m thankful for every response I can get. Greetings from Germany! ___________________________________________ MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Intel I5-4760K 16 GB G.Skill Sniper EVGA 500 B 80+ Bronze 500 Watt NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Asus Dual 6gb
  6. Hey there - does anyone have any experience with extremely heavy video streaming workloads? Think vMix accepting 10 4k input streams over the network, video capture cards etc. I have the requirement to build a streaming PC capable of handling a lot of HD inputs and potentially 4k in the future and the system bottleneck being the memory bandwidth is a potential concern for me - many of these review sites ignore quad-channel entirely because games for the most part get away with dual channel just fine. Also, quad channel is only supported on the higher-end Intel X-Core series chipsets and Threadripper - so I'm hoping someone with some experience can advise here: Is quad channel necessary for workloads like this? This is basically going to determine if I can get away with a 3900x or 3950x as opposed to going i9 10900x or Threadripper. Thanks!
  7. So I'm putting together a cheap workstation PC. I have tons of parts lying around and was looking to get a x79 lga 2011 motherboard from eBay/AliExpress. My question is does quad channel vs dual-channel memory really make any difference? I have plenty of extra processors and RAM so the board just seems like an easy way to go. According to this ltt video it doesn't make a difference. Am I understanding it correctly?
  8. Quite simple question, what would be the "best" (if there even is a difference) Quad, Dual or Single Channel RAM? If all ran at same clocks and timings would there be a difference? (except you can easily upgrade with Single/Dual assuming there is 4 slots on the mobo).
  9. I was pleasantly surprised by winning a i7-5960x CPU. Thank you, Intel! I would like to build a gaming PC, so I believe it should cover other tasks like video editing, photo editing etc. I would be happy with a CPU frequency of about 4.4GHz. I have a modest budget, so I am looking for the best value for money. Yes, I know that is sort of an oxymoron building an X99 on the cheap. J Here is what I have: · Intel i7-5960X - WOHOO thank you Intel!! · Asus X99-A/USB3.1 · Corsair 650W PSU · 256GB Velociraptor Drive · Case · $200 Amazon gift card – Thank you mom! · Video Card from an old PC, good enough for now. · Most importantly, support from my lovely wife to buy the other pieces I need to finish the project! Here is what I need: RAM I am trying to decide between buying something that has a high clock speed, higher latency and higher cost vs lower clock speed, latency and cost. I know that 16GB is fine for my current needs but should I get 32GB to “future proof” my system? I am considering the following: · G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM 3000 CL15 (15-15-15-35) at 1.35V $123 @ Amazon · Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz CL15 (15-17-17-35) at 135v $109.99 @ Amazon · Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4 DRAM 2133MHz C13 (13-15-15-28) at 1.2V $100 @ Amazon Cooling Here I am torn between buying a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo and the Noctua. Will the 212 Evo do a good enough job or am I wasting my time with it? · Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO $28 @ Amazon · Noctua NH-D15 6 heatpipe with Dual NF-A15 140mm fans $66 @ Amazon Here is what I want: Gen3 M.2 drive · Haven’t done any research on this yet, but I know I want a fast OS drive. Better Case · Might move to the need column if the Noctua cooler is the winner and it won’t fit. Noctua Case fans · If I stay with the current case I would at least want better case fans. GPU · I am currently leaning to a NVidia 1060; my screen is a 1920 x 1080 TV so I don’t need SLI or anything that fancy. I do play AAA titles, so a good frame rate with some eye candy is desirable. Am I crazy, way off base or right on the money? Please let me know.
  10. I have 8GB of RAM (2x4) but I want to upgrade to 16GB I have the MSI z270 Tomahawk arctic Motherboard and the Core i5-7600k Both the motherboard say dual channel, so does that mean I can't use 4 sticks, I'm asking because the manual shows a 4 stick configuration which is slightly confusing and another pack of 8GB(4x2) is alot cheaper than a new one of 16GB (8x2).. Thanks!
  11. Hello, I just bought a 16GB x2 = 32GB RAM, Geil EVO X 3000MHz built for Ryzen http://www.geil.com.tw/products/show/id/563 I haven't bought the GPU, Motherboard, and CPU for my new build. While I am deciding to wait for VEGA 56 instead of buying GTX 1060/1070, I started to think that maybe I should wait and get a Threadripper. (Thought of buying B350 and Ryzen 1700) And I started to browser for the Threadripper specs and it says that it needs a Quad Channel RAM. So I started to feel panic because I just bought a DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY!! I started to feel regret why did I buy a technology that has or becoming obsolete for my NEW build? I also started to look for Quad Channel memory, and I found that Corsair Vengeance with the same 16GB x2 spec, and roughly the same price. What makes my feeling worse is that the Corsair Vengeance says Dual/Quad Channel, why didn't I just get this instead of Geil EVO X? So my question is that, is it worth it to buy 32GB Dual Channel now, seeing that Threadripper will come out soon and make Dual Channel like tomorrow's tech? Should I wait for VEGA and Threadripper in the first place and use quad channel memory? Thank you!
  12. Hello, first post here I've built a system on the following base: CPU Intel - Xeon E5-2673 V3 (2.4GHz 12-Core) Motherboard Asus - X99-M WS RAM 2x G.Skill - Trident Z 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 F4-3200C14D-16GTZKO So what I'm facing now is that only 2 sticks of RAM are utilized, instead of all 4 (in BIOS and Windows) so 16GB instead of 32. When I go to the SPD readout in the BIOS or in CPU-Z / Taiphoon Burner I can see all 4 sticks in their respective banks. What would be the explanation to this ? Would replacing the 2 dual channel kits by 1 quad channel kit solve the problem ? Could I write something to the sticks with Taiphoon burner to make the sticks work ? Any help appreciated
  13. Hello to any X99 experts that might be out there! I'm building my first X99 PC for my boss as his replacement workstation. He needs a new PC by yesterday as his aging iMac is dying. Naturally I, the only PC builder in the office, didn't hesitate before offering to spec out and build him a replacement to the likeness of other existing PC workstations he has. After going through the build process in my head while buying the parts, it dawned on me that I'm not sure how to install the memory I purchased in the optimal configuration. The board is this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7q38TW/evga-motherboard-131hee095kr // User manual part 1: https://www.evga.com/support/manuals/files/131-HE-E095_Part1_v2.pdf // User manual part 2: https://www.evga.com/support/manuals/files/131-HE-E095_Part2.pdf It has four slots, but I purchased only two DIMMs of RAM deliberately so he can upgrade to 64GB down the road should it ever become necessary. My question is this: what slots should be populated with the two sticks of RAM I bought to run in dual-channel mode properly? I can't find a straight answer anywhere, but my best guess after doing some digging is that you need to populate the odd slots first, which would be the outermost slots.
  14. Hi, I have 8 RAM slots, so quad channel. However, I want to get 4 sticks of RAM now, and 4 sticks of RAM later. Each kit of 4 sticks was meant for dual channel (they are the exact same kit). So, let's say... January 1st: I buy a kit of 4 sticks of DDR4 RAM, intended for dual channel. January 2nd: I build the computer with the kit of 4 sticks of DDR4 RAM I bought. I proceed to use it every day, for roughly 8 hours. June 1st: I buy another kit of 4 sticks of DDR4 RAM, intended for dual channel. June 2nd: I put this other kit of 4 sticks of DDR4 RAM into my system, giving me 8 sticks of RAM. Would this properly work in quad channel, even if half of the RAM sticks were used for some time and if both kits for the quad channel were both intended for dual channel?
  15. If I have a motherboard with 4 DIMM slots at 64GB max and is Dual Channel memory, Is it better to use 2 sets of 2x8GB dual channel kits or 1 set of 4x8GB quad channel kit or is there a set of 4x8GB dual channel kit? reason being I want to use all my DIMM slots for RGB.
  16. Hello Everyone. Hoping you can answer a question for me, not having much luck online. I currently run 16gb ddr4 3000 in 4x4 quad channel. I'm upgrading to 32gb ddr4 3000 in 4x8 quad channel. Can I continue to use both kits at the same time, giving me 48gb of addressable ram? The speed and timings are the same for both kits, I'm just unsure if the difference in capacity will cause an issue. Thank you in advance. CPU: 5820k (OC to 4.5ghz)
  17. So, I have Msi X99s Gaming 7 and i7 5820K. They are almost 4 years old. I am planning on upgrading my setup to RTX 2070 and adding 32gb quad Channel 8GbX4 kit. Here are the problems: 1- Is 5820K still good? I can overclock it to 4 Ghz. 2- Bottleneck isuue? 3- Cannot find single quad Channel kit in Indian Market. Not even 4x4gb So, Any suggestions? For Ram. -Going for two Dual Channel kits good idea? -Four individual sticks same make model? Importing Ram Kit via NewEgg? Warranty Issue? -Or stick to Dual Channel Kit? 32gb. For CPU and Mainboard I am planing on upgrading in 2 phases. Will change Mainboard and CPU later in a month or two. Reason being upcoming AMD 3000 and budget issue. Cause if AMD’s upcoming CPUs are useless than sticking to Intel will be really costly. About $1000 for CPU and Motherboard will be required here. Do I really need Upgrade? PC is basically for Gaming.
  18. Hey Guys, i would like to know what the differences are in a quad channel vs dual channel layout for ram, also how will it work with a comsumer grade board & cpu atm im using an 8086k with asus maximus x formula, the cpu says it uses dual channel so would quad channel suffer some sort of performance hit or compatibility issue?
  19. Dear people on the forum, I have a problem because i installed 4 sticks of ram (crucial ddr4 4gb 2400) and they are all working (tested them) when i go to the bios i shows that i have installed 16gb ram but in windows it is only 8gb. I don't know what to do i am sure that all the slots on my motherboard are working and that all of my ram sticks are working because i tested them. Thanks for the help! Ties Bronkhorst my pc - Intel Core i5 7400 -Gigabyte GA-Q170M-D3H - 1 crucial ddr4 4gb 2133 - 3 crucial ddr4 4gb 2400 - msi gtx 1050 ti -hdd 1 tb seagate barracuda I have also a picture uploaded that is my task manager you can see there is only 8 gb showing up but i also shows 16 gb. Sorry that it is in dutch but i also says that they are only 2 slots being used of the 4 slots.
  20. I know its general principle that RAM not be mixed and matched and that its better to just get a matching kit. However, if I had an 8(2x4)gig Kit but a 4 slot motherboard could I: Add a set of 2x8 in the existing free slots of different brands? I wouldn't think it would matter. Would I still need to consider matching voltages, speeds, timing, etc. between the old set and the new set? Or because they're on a separate channel that wouldn't matter? Thanks
  21. Hi, I'm at the end of my latin. got this used build super cheap, its all up and running for a year. But lately I wanted to clean it all up a bit and finally resolve this one issue left with the ram. The problem is memory isnt working in quad channel. If I input the dimms in the official layout A1-B1-C1-D1 even with cmos clear in between every stick, the C1 isnt recognized in UEFI main menu or windows. In the UEFI system browser and HWinfo the stick is shown, but oddly in HWinfo for the first time when I boot up with reseated ram it will identify quad channel running. If I reboot the second time after reseating then HWinfo is showing triple channel like in the UEFI main screen. If I try to boot from C1 only I get 19,b0 debug codes. I tried 2x dual channel with A1-B1-C2-D2 and C2,D2 werent working in this case. I tried putting in the DRAM values manually in the BIOS, cleaned the CPU, checked for bent pins on both connections, reseated it, all with no success. I repeated previous steps after a BIOS update. I think I can exclude defective memory, because they are working in slots A and B. So the issue seems to be incompatibility, defective motherboard, defective CPU (which I really dont think I checked 2x and didnt see anything, also the system is very stable besides that) So what am I left with? Try another kit of RAM or another CPU or MB?
  22. Hey Guyz.. i have 4 sticks of 2 gb ddr3 ram i ghave installed it in my desktop but my bios shows that 3 channels are active i m really confuse waht is single channel , dual channel or quad channel etc etc.. i have attached my motherboard picture.. it is a dell precision t3500 mother board kindly help.. if you can marked the slots in the picture then it will be much more easier for me
  23. G Skill currently sells 4133mhz ram which consists of 4 dimms of 8gb each-total 32gb. Link-https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232670&cm_re=4133mhz_rgb_ram-_-20-232-670-_-Product I was this purchase is worth it and here are some of my thoughts.(System is a 8700K, Maximus X Code)- (1)Will this kit support quad channel memory. (2)How much of a performance boost does it give when compared to 3200mhz ram? (3)Does the kit's high speed justify its price? Pls. don't rage if you think I'm crazy or something, just wanted to clear my doubts thru u guys who might be having a little bit more experience than me.
  24. Hey I'm sure this has been asked before, but I haven't been able to find an answer simple enough to explain it. I am looking at memory for my X399 Aorus Gaming 7 motherboard to be paired with my Threadripper 1950X. Currently I have 2x16GB G.Skill TridentZ RGB 3200Mhz dimms installed. If I were to add two more dimms would that become quad channel? Or does it stay dual channel? Is it the number of dimms/sticks that makes it single, dual, triple, quad, ect channel or is it the way the RAM chips are made? I've been debating if I should add two more of what I have (which is great) or if I should just bite the bullet and get an "official" quad channel kit right out of Newegg. I still know that I can order two more of the same sticks that I have. I am just curious if I would have any issues, if it would only be dual channel, or if it would become quad channel. Also what performance increases would or should I expect if I were to get it into quad channel?
