Hello there, I noticed that power saver mode is back to annoy me. Last time (3-4 months ago) I had the same issue but managed to find some flag setting in chrome that turned the power saver mode off. The "fun" fact is that I am on a PC. The issue: power saver mode is ON every time I open chrome. I can turn it off but only for that session. If I close chrome and reopen it, it will be back on. In chrome's performance settings there is nothing about power saving, although it should be there as far as I know. My windows power management is set to "balanced" but within that I have everything cranked up to the max. I have a pretty regular pc: ryzen 5800X stock, 32 gigs of ram, 1080ti, running up to date windows 10 pro 22H2. That's all I can say. Please HALP!!! Cheers

I was wondering if i could limited the Power with MSI Afterburner, to safe some power when i don't do anything except watching videos or streams? Because i'am not sure if it works that way (lower the Power Limit (%) to safe some power) and/or if it could cause problems like damaging the gpu because it's maybe not meant to be done? If it's important, I have a 3070.

I want to know what is the most efficient option to choose from when it comes to saving battery power on a laptop. I'm using a Intel core-i5 with 4 cores at 2.5ghx Either changing it so that it uses only a certain percentage of the total CPU power (I have it at 1.5ghz max on battery) while still running it on ll four cores OR limiting most of my used programs (like Chrome) to 2 core at full 2.5 GHZ while Is there any other options that you guys know of? Edit: Just to be clear, it's 2 physical core and 2 hyperthreading cores

So here are the ingredients: 1 GPU with back-plate (RX 480 NITRO) 10 cheap peltier elements (40x40mm) 1 120 mm case fan ... or maybe smaller Preparation: Apply the "heating" side of the peltier elements on the back-plate of the GPU with a thermal tape/paste. And then, naturally some heat-sinks on the "cooling" side of the peltier elements. Hook up the cables and connect them to the fan. Put the GPU to work and the thermometric elements power up the fan from the thermal transfer. Preferably the fan blows near the peltier's heat-sinks or in them so it can make a bigger thermal difference. I am actually preparing to try this on my machine, haven't found the time to even take measurements yet (back-plate temps most importantly) and calculate if it can actually work. But as soon as i do anything I'll share. In the meanwhile i thought second opinion might be... discouraging and stop me from making a thermal paste mess in my case .

I got a new laptop that works great while plugged in, but when I unplug it, the performance tanks. I have set the power plan to high performance just like it would be when plugged in. In League of Legends, I go from 250-300 fps while plugged in to sometimes less than 100 when on battery. My specs are a 1660ti and 9750h in a gigbayte aero 15. Is there a setting that I am missing. I tried setting power management mode to prefer maximum performance which helped slightly, but still not enough to make the performance up to what I would expect

Hi, So basically what happen was my computer and monitor are draining my electricity. We top up £10(12.79 USD) and that would last us about a week before I got my PC build and now we had to top up twice since Monday. I would like some solutions to lower the power consumption while being able to play games for a long time. TD;DR - The "high-performance-purpose" GPU gives a BREATHTAKING whooping average increase of 3% (three) in performance over the Integrated GPU, whilst consuming ~4x more energy/battery. (And keep in mind I'm using the integrated GPU on single-channel memory, it would be definitely¹ faster than the dedicated one using dual channel. ) I already have the setting "Switchable Dynamic Graphics" to "Force Power Saving Graphics". (under "Advanced Power Options Settings") However there still seem to be times where something triggers the discrete GPU and somewhat increase power usage. I know there's a way to disable it in Linux, because I've found a way when researching, over an year ago. I did gave up on finding anything on Windows though. However, lurking through this forum, I've figured maybe some of the fine users here could know something more about it. Long Story Short: Bought a Lenovo ThinkPad E460 (the humble cousin at the rich ThinkPad familiy). Even when I hadn't bought it yet, I was already questioning the design decision of putting an R7 M360 inside.. I checked fps in game for that GPU and it seemed to be around even with the HD 520. In some games the M360 wins; While in others the HD 520 takes the lead. In any case the difference is basically negligible anyway. They never even get past 8% difference. Bought it anyway because I wanted a laptop with a trackpoint (red-thing-mouse) and that was the best my money could buy. (Also my options were greatly limited for not being a resident of neither the US or EU.) After buying it, performed my own tests in some games, some stress tools, and some benchmarks. My suspicions proved true and the discrete GPU is almost² useless. On top of that, the AMD GPU is wayyy more inefficient (power-hungry), as usual. Although AMD does give a run for the money, their products often use more energy to achieve the same work, when compared to competitors - Intel for CPUs or Nvidia for GPUs. Measured power draw of both GPUs under load and the AMD one seems to draw at least 4X more energy, while producing those 3% increased results. That's hardly any surprise, considering the M360's lithography of 28 nm, versus the HD 520's 14 nm. So, conclusions: Lenovo engineers thought it was a good idea to spend more money buying and adding a discrete GPU unit, fit it inside the laptop case, provide a cooling design, etc etc etc, in order to provide about the same processing power as the integrated GPU the laptop would already have, but now spending much more energy, generating more heat, and depleting your battery faster I sincerely don't know how those guys get to do these things and still keep their jobs. ----------------------------------------------------------- 1 - If you search around, you'll easily find reports of people getting around 40% framerate increase on iGPUs when using dual-channel over single-channel. 2 - It's not entirely useless. It has 2GB memory, and maybe in some specific scenario that would make you better off. Also it doesn't share the TDP with the processor like the iGPU. Depending on the game or scenario, that TDP sharing can give the users some reduced performance due to the gpu or cpu throttling down in order to keep within TDP constraints. It's less of a problem for users willing to undervolt &\or increase the TDP using intel XTU, but maybe it would affect some layman users in some specific situations.

Since i can not log into my main account right now I will just psot on this new one. I currently have my 3770k at 4.6GHz which was never properly stressed but while gaming it never crashed on me for moths so I suppose it is fine however I am using a very basic way my mobo offers. no it is not the auto OC but something similar. It is called OC Genie and what it boiled down to is that I set my multiplier and a core voltage. That is 4.6GHz and 1.305Volts. I am not getting anywhere above 75C but I would certainly like to save some power so i can run my fans slower and make the whole thing a little bit quieter. I don't know what the power saving features are though. From what I remember one of the few things turned of in the OC menue "C1e state" was one of them. I don't know anything to specific about how processors work but I know that they enter different states dedending on the load scenario. Has anybody experience with this platform or can just tell me from the top of his head what to look for? Any help is appreciated. EDIT: If the options in the program I can use to modify the BIOS int the OS are the same then I was wrong about the C1E state thing.... Are there other things to look out for. If you have questions I can just check wheter something is on or not really fast so feel free to ask.

As far as I'm aware, enabling high performance mode in Windows keeps the CPU constantly at its highest clock speed whereas balanced allows the CPU to lower the clock speed when not under load? Is this not the same as what Intel speedstep in the Bios which lowers the CPU speed? Won't this windows setting conflict with all the power saving settings in the Bios?
