So this is a thread i never thought i would ever make but i cant decide how to split up theese parts into computer and what to sell off ect... here are the parts : A few notes: The MATX P4 computer has a lot of family pictures i want off it because its a shitty PC and so i can re-use the case for the I5 680 + motherboard. The ATX computer is my dads current work PC so to do anything with that i would need to move over quite a bit of files. I dont know what formfactor or what motherboard im getting with my I7 because it was sent to me today and hassent arived yet but should do in a few days and thats also why there are two listings for 2x2GB DDR3 becauase i dont know what RAM it is but it could verry well be the same because the sticks i have are pretty common. Here was my plan but im not sure how good it is: 1 (Dads new work PC): 2 (LAN PC 4.0): 3 (Another candidate for dads work PC if the I5s motherboard dosent want to play nice): And then i basically sell off most the other parts. This is what i came up with but its pretty terrible, like why should i put the NH-D14 on a computer i might just sell off that feels like a waste because i just got it. Im really not sure how to divide up theese parts into computers or what to do, i have $65 to spend on new stuff so if you want to add something then thats the budget. Thanks for any replies and any help dividing up the parts

I was just wondering, if you could put a second 120 mm fan on the NH-D14 Cooler instead of the NF-P14, Thanks for answers.

Is it worth buying h100i gtx from corsair if i already have noctua's nh-d14? because my friend keep saying to me that watercooling or clc will be always better than air and cools better, but pretty much all answers on other forums are - they perform the same, air wont fail like clc, and air coolers dont have that noise like clc pump and stock fans will have. So is it worth even trying? because i dont want spend 100 pounds for same performing cooler PS. my rig: AMD FX-8350 @ 4.2Ghz| Noctua NH-D14| Gigabyte R9 290X Factory OC| ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0| Samsung 840 Evo 120GB| G.Skill Ripjaws X 8GB 1333Mhz| Seasonic M12II-850 Evo| Windows 10 Pro|3 x Noctua NF-S12A FLX at top, one NF-S12A FLX at rear, one NF-S12A FLX at front with NF-P12 in front of drive cage, one NF-P12 at bottom and all of that is in IN WIN GRone case.

Hi, i'm currently better putting together parts to buy for a new system because my Q6600 just doesn't cut it anymore, my current plan is to use a I7 4770 but i really want to make sure it's kept as cool as possible to potentially increase it's lifespan. My main problem is the choosing the right case and the right cooler, the main complication with this is the fact that i currently have a Antec 750W gold psu (not modular) and cable management is a nightmare. I'm currently using a Corsair Spec-03 case however after 5 months of use, I've realized it's not the case for me, i also don't use any optical drives so any 5.25" slots are unnecessary for me.So.....after research, I've decided that even though i'm not overclocking, i'd like to use a noctua NH-D14 or 15 for great performance but after more research the case that seems perfect is the NZXT S340 however this introduces the possible clearance issues with such a big cooler. So after a long winded explanation, my main question is will the NH-D14 and/or NH-D15 fit in the NZXT S340 and if not, what would be a better cooling solution (preferably air) for this case, thanks

I'm going to buy a new pc case, nzxt h440. I have a Noctua NH-D14 cpu cooler which I want to change fans on. I want the fans to have a black frame with a white fan to match the case. 1) Any advice on fans? Can I use 2 120mm fans? It would probably look better. 2) My motherboard have one 4-pin connector for the cpu cooler and one 3-pin connector for the cpu cooler. Can I connect both cpu fans to the 4-pin connector? 3) The motherboard have one 4-pin and two 3-pin connectors for chassi fans as well as one 3-pin connector for power fan. Can I use these to power the four chassis fans that comes with the nzxt h440? 4) I want some light in my chassi. I want white light, I haven't decided if I want warm or cold light but I don't want it to be too strong and I need to be able to switch in on or off. Any advice?

Will a nh-d14 fit in my Zalman z11+ HF1 case? Ok, so I currently have a fx 8320 cpu and amd's stock fan is cooling it so when I play something like bf4 on max it starts to spin that 4k rpm fan and it's loud as F$%#. So I was looking at buying a new cooler for my cpu and I was looking to buy something smaller but then I thought like why not just spend and extra 40 $ and get the nh-d14, but when i looked at the zalman specs it says it can only hold up to 158mm coolers and the nh-d14 is 160mm, but the zalman has that big side " window hole " and some people say it can fit and some say it can't. So i'm just asking for a simple Yes or No and if u have any other good idea?

Hi! So I know that I have already asked a question, where i asked if a cooler will fit in my pc. My current case is the Thermaltake Urban s31. And the cooler that I was wondering to get is a Noctua NH-D14, or a Noctua NH-D15. I have already gotten the answer that it wont fit, but Im guessing that was with the side panel closed. Now Im asking if it will fit if I dont use the side panel at all. Normally I do not have the side panel attached to my case, because i have overheating issues (Thats why I want a new cooler). If the cooler wont fit, please help me out in the comments what cooler is a good one for me. (It needs to fit into my case, and take my overheating issues away) Btw. My computer mostly overheats when im playing games, and yes. I do know that it is my cpu, and not my gpu. Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm a first timer OCer... read a bunch, watched a bunch (including and especially Linus OC Guides) and I got some interesting results on my first tests but doubts abound. First, my setup: Intel I7 4790K with Noctua NH-D14 ASUS z97M-PLUS/BR (2802 BIOS) Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600MHz ASUS ROG MARS760-4GD5 EVGA 600B 80PLUS Bronze NZXT H230 (All Fan Setup, 2 front, 1 back) I've configured my BIOS as follow: AI OC Tuner: XMP CPU Strap: 100MHz ASUS Multi Core: Disabled CPU Core Ratio: Sync All (46) Core Voltage: 1.235v -- No other changes With such, I've managed to pass a 10 minutes stability test on AIDA64 though I observed all cores reaching individual peak temps of 95ºC (every 5 to 10 secs) but no throttling and highest average temp at 82ºC. The overall CPU average temp was about 74ºC. Lower voltages resulted in crashes during stability tests and higher multipliers and voltages resulted in throttling. Tests with Intel XTU wielded lower temps altogether. My main concern right now is over those peak temps I observed on individual cores. Should I aim for a lower OC to avoid such peaks or the average temps are more relevant to system stability and life expectancy in general? Or should I watch for the CPU overall temp? Would there be other configs I could or should fiddle to get better results? Any other suggestions on the matter? Thanks

Hey guys, I currently use the Mugen 4 on my 3770K OC'd to 4.5GHz running at peak heath of 80°C. Now, I got an NH-D14 for free from a colleague, so I'd like to know from you wether I should stick with the Mugen 4 or replace it with the NH-D14. Thanks for your answers.

Hi Guys, The title is so much specific for a product, but I'm also here to ask of what performance upgrade will I have with my plans below. I am planning to buy Noctua industrial grade fans, 5 of them. The fan names are listed below. 2 x NF-F12 industrialPPC-3000 PWM 3 x NF-A14 industrialPPC-3000 PWM My case is the NZXT H440, my plans are listed below, 1. For the NF-A14 industrial PPC fans, I am changing the 3 fans on the case's front intake. Will this boost the air inflow? The stock NZXT fans(which are the ones replaced by the Noctuas), will be placed in the TOP, and also for intake. 2. For the NF-F12 industrial PPC fans, I am changing the 2 stocked Noctua fans from NH-D14 with the iPPC NF-F12. But my concern would, be for the price, does it have a noticeable increase? 3. So I am now left with 2 Fans from the NH-D14, so my plan is to place the NF-P14 on exhaust, and change the NZXT stock fan. So I'm now left with the NF-F12(from NH-D14) and the stock exhaust from the NZXT H440. Will the changes be okay? Another question though, placing the NF-P12 at exhaust, will the fan be okay, since there are many intakes, will the fan stress out and possibly won't compensate of too much air being brought by the 6 fans? Thanks and I appreciate the help.

Hello, I need advice on ram. Its been a very long time since i built a pc and have been out of the loop for sometime now. This is what im building: Asus Maximus 7 hero motherboard with i7-4790k Being cooled by a noctua nh-d14 I am looking for 16gigs that will fit given the tight space of the cooler. Anyone have this setup and have any advice? *sidenote: I seen this recommended online (having to manipulate fan higher on cooler) but i cannot find measurements to verify- http://www.corsair.com/es-mx/vengeance-pro-series-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr3-dram-1600mhz-c9-memory-kit-cmy16gx3m2a1600c9r Thanks for your help!

I recently upgraded to Noctua NH-D14, case is Cooler Master Elite 430 (Its a tight fit) My rear fan is some NZXT fan, 1200 RPM I guess. Since upgrade I can hear loud noise from the case, not as loud as previous stock intel cooler, but it is noticable. Should I upgrade my rear fan to something else? If yes, what are other options apart from Noctua's which are present on the cooler?

this is most likely my fault... because I didn't do enough research beforehand... so I just ordered (and made a downpayment) on the components of my brand new PC then I just thought of checking out the Air 540, which is my case to be, and saw that the max CPU cooler height it can accommodate is just 170mm! while the CPU cooler I got is the Noctua NH-D14! which I saw online as having a height of 210mm! what do I do????

I'm considering upgrading my current budget PC sometime in the second half of 2015, and I'm still a little skeptical of liquid cooling, especially AIO's. I'm interested in the NZXT Kraken X41, since according to Linus' own video, it's so close in performance to the X61, very VERY competitive to the NH-D15 which isn't that much cheaper and way uglier, but there's evaporation to worry about, and making sure my case has a 140mm fan mount and space for the radiator, because drilling extra holes... yeah, no thank you. I'm perfectly fine with having to change some case choices if need be, and the case I want (NZXT H440) will work as it is, but my mind could change within 6 or more months by the time I upgrade. Why ask this quesyion so far from an upgrade? Well, cooling seems to take FOREVER to get upgrades. Take the NH-D14. released about 5 or so years ago, and THIS YEAR got an upgrade. Yeah, and it's still relevant. Asking now won't hurt, probably. Anyway, I digress. I know the NH Coolers are very premium, insanely quiet, and perform amazingly for such low RPM's on the fans. The engineering is amazing, and I'm quite impressed by it. However, Noctua coolers are rather large. But then again, so are other tower heatsinks. From what I read, the Hyper 212 Evo is just as tall as the NH-D14, just not as wide and smaller fan(s). If this at least even a little true, then me having a 212 Evo currently would make me not want to upgrade it, instead just slapping some Noctua fans on it to run push-pull. Is the Noctua Worth it?? Should I get an AIO?? I want to build a PC that can overclock well (clock speed depends on CPU, probably a 4790K or a Broadwell chip, or if AMD releases early, their new architecture chips), but is also quiet. Would putting Noctua fans on an X41/X61 be a good idea?? Are all the issues of liquid cooling worth it? This guy needs some answers, and would appreciate the help. To summarize this mile-long post, should I keep the 212 Evo, get a Noctua, or an AIO? Thanks, broskis :3.

I am looking around for a CPU cooler for one of my various PCs, and I have come upon a difficult decision. I want a dual-tower 140MM cooler, but I don't know which one to go with. Cheaper for me is better, but my choice seems to have been narrowed down to the NH-D14, NH-D15 and Dark Rock Pro 3, seeing as I think the Phanteks cooler is too ugly. The socket is LGA 1155, and it needs to dissipate at least 200W. Location is New York, preferred retailers are Amazon, Micro Center, Best Buy, NCIX and Newegg and my budget is under $75. Will stretch if I need to.

I have just bought a noctua nh-d14 and taken off my old cooler. Of course there is some thermal paste left on the Cpu. Should I take it off with some alcohol and earsticks or do I have to look out for something special? Is there anything I have to be careful with than please write it to me.

Hi guys, I just got my Maximus VII hero and my G3258 to replace my currently dead mobo or CPU while I wait for broadwell. The bad thing is it runs at 60C at idle, which probably is a precursor that I lost the silicon lottery. I am a complete idiot who cannot mount a stock cooler that works with pins and not screws correctly. Anyway, running it at 3.2ghz still is not an option for me, so, is the NH-D15 really worth the extra 20$ (99$) over the NH-D14 (79$) for a few degrees variation? Also, canadian prices. Thanks P.S. I did not find anything covering the matter on the forums, if there is already, please direct me to it, thank you.

Hello Forum members, I recently assembled my first Pc. (yay) But I do have some questions regard my Air cooling setup and the temperatures I'm getting with it. (my temps are at cpu stock speed) My Ambient temp is around 20*C, and my bios gives around 30-31*C for the Cpu and 25-27*C for the Mboard. Is this normal? I also notice that when I'm just slightly move the mouse the temps are rising with 1 or 3 Celcius. (remember theses temps are without overclocking the Cpu) I also would like to know what your temperatures are at Idle _______________________________ My Rig Cpu : i7 4770k 3.5ghz Cpu cooler : NH-D14 (with NH-H1 thermal paste) Mboard : MSI Z87 G45 Case : Corsair Vengeance C70 + 2 front fans SP120 from corsair and the stock rear fan running at 900rpm on idle. win. Anyone know if this cools well? It's definitely the best looking air cooler I've seen so far... How would it stack up next to an NH-D14 or a DarkrockPro 3??

Original post: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/16011-cooling-an-i7-2600k-in-antec-1200-case/ (I had to make another post about this because of no1 really answered my question) I've put together a small list of things i need to know, in order to decide which option i want to go with. Options(Not in a specific order): Feel free to suggest something else if you think it's better and explain why you think it's better. (Im not doing custom water cooling loop in this case It just isn't doable in this case without modding the shizz out of it, which im not willing to do.) 1. Noctua NH-D14 After googling a while it seems to fit in the case, however: - Does the side panel close properly with it? -Yes it does. - Does the other heatsink tower come over the RAM slots so much that you can't fit Corsair Vengeance RAM under it? -The heatsink it self comes only on top of the first RAM slot from CPU socket, so yes you can use tall memory to some limit and you have to move the other fan to the other side of the cooler. - Do i need to remove the plexiglass that has the side panel fan mount? -No, but you can't have the fan installed on it at the same time no matter which way you orient the cooler. 2. Noctua NH-C14 - How much of an difference there is in terms of cooling performance compared to H100? - Does Corsair Vengeance RAM fit under it if i leave the bottom fan off? - Do i need to remove the plexiglass that has the side panel fan mount? 3. Noctua NH-U14S - It has only 1 heatsink tower and yet it seems to outperform NH-D14, is that possible? Performance graph (Source:Reply in my original post by ody133) 4. Phanteks TC14PE - How does it perform compared to my other options? - Does the side panel close properly with it? - Does the other heatsink tower come over the RAM slots so much that i can't fit Corsair Vengeance RAM under it? - Do i need to remove the plexiglass that has the side panel fan mount? 5. Prolimatech Super Mega - How well would it perform with Corsair Quiet Edition SP120s in push-pull compared to it's stock fans? - Do i need to remove the plexiglass that has the side panel fan mount? 6. Prolimatech Megahalems - How well would it perform with Corsair Quiet Edition SP120s in push-pull compared to it's stock fans? - Do i need to remove the plexiglass that has the side panel fan mount? Is there something else i need to know? Im not willing to change my case yet so the cooler must fit in my Antec 1200. Other suggestions (price doesn't matter)? IF anyone knows where i could order a custom made plexiglass piece for my case please let me know. Hello, i have few questions about my Noctua NH-D14. I want to replace the original fans as they are quite loud and i believe there are better performing fans out there. My specs are i5-3570k@4,5Ghz Asrock z77 pro 3 GTX780 CM Enforcer case GS700 psu Idle temps are around 25-35C, Prime95 temps are around 70-78C, normal temps during gaming never goes ever 65C or so(which iam quite satisfied with considering my case and the fact i should delid my CPU imo), but iam not using those low noise adapters as i dont want to be reaching over 80C under full load...i dont really care much about noise under load but it is too loud at idle like this, these 2 fans are louder then anything in my pc:( I know i should test that myself but how much will my temps increase with those adapters i couldnt really find answer anywhere? I will maybe try that tomorow, but it will fix only 1 part of the problem as i dont think the cooling will be good enough with these. I would like to replace the Noctuas with something same or quiter at full speeds (around 1300-1500RPM) with better performance...my research so far shows Scythe GT-14 are quite good, but it seems like they cant be software/pwm regulated same as the original Noctua fans, but are quite alot better for fixed speed fans. Or can they be regulated ? i might be misinformed on this one which would be awesome My other options are 120 & 140 mm Noctua PWM versions of the original fans, they are quite pricy, but might be best solution since it would solve the loudness at idle issue right? I know this will sound lame, but i love the look of those Corsair SP120 fans(dat red ring /drool lol), so i was thinking about using the SP120 High performance(or Quites if they would be enough) hooked to the mobo on PWM control keeping them around 1500RPM max and much lover RPM at idle temps. Would this increase my temps alot as they are not the best performers out there and would the noise be better compared to the original Noctuas? Can they be even atached to the heatsink considering they have the rubber corners ? If the GTs-14 or SP120s are going to be better and quiter then PWM Noctuas iam going to replace all my other case fans with same fans cause afaik they are both good for that aswell(if noctuas are better ill keep my case fans cause of the price lol). Right now iam using 1x200mm front 1x200mm top and 1x120mm back fans those are totaly silent at idle with the speeds i use, but i believe they doesnt provide as much air movement as more 120mm fans would. They would be replaced with 2x120 front 2x120 top and 1x120 rear, so i want them to be same with same noise levels as CPU. Again for this would be best the GTs imo(even better with fan controler if they cant be software regulated as iam afraid right ?) Would you guys suggest other option for me, or which way would you go/went while replacing fans on NH-D14..if you can post pics please i would love to see others solutions:D btw Noiseblockers aint option cause i cant buy them in Czech TLDR: 1.Which fans to use instead original Noctuas for super quite idle and great full load temps?(PWM prefered) 2.Can Scythe GT-14 be regulated other way then with regulator? Is the noise really that much lover then Noctuas at full ?(some tests shows it is, so might be worth pluging them all on full rpm and forget about regulations?) 3.Are SP120 regulated up to around 1500RPM quiter then Noctuas at full speed with roughly same performace?(doubt that right ? why they have to be that bad ) 4.PWM versions of 120&140mm original Noctua fans worth it ? Thanks for the answers, iam new here but i love this place already

I'm honestly not too concerned about whether or not anything is "overkill" in this build. I do a lot of gaming and ProTools work, so it'd be nice to not have to sacrifice any performance for price. I'm mostly here because I want to make sure everything has great compatibility and great build quality. Like I said earlier, I'm fine with things being a bit "overkill". Over the past 6 months or so I've done quite a bit of research on various parts and I've narrowed it down to what I currently have built below. I'm very curious how it looks in terms of compatibility. It all looks really good to me, but it's always good to get a couple of extra looks just to make sure, since I've been looking at all of these parts for months already. I don't want to end up ordering a bunch of parts that don't work togethor perfectly. My personal computer has gone through a number of rebuilds over the years, including hardware upgrades, case changes, etc. Recently I acquired, hands down, my favorite case of all time, the Silverstone FT02. So i decided it's about time i give my personal rig a proper build. I must say, the 3 AP180's are simply beautiful, I've gone through a number of silent cases in the past; however, no amount of dampening can match the performance of a larger, slower, well engineered fan. Table of Content: Update 1: Case pictures + Brackets painted (Sept 11) Update 2: PSU + NH-D14 (Sept 13) Update 3: Sleeved 24 pin (Sept 15) Update 4: Vinyl wrapping (Sept 17) Update 5: Dual zone LED lighting (Sept 18) Old Hardware: Asus P8Z68M Pro Intel i7 2600k Corsair H80i (with 2x AF12PWM fans) 4 x 4GB Mushkin Blackline HD6970 Asus DCu II 3 x 120GB Vertex 3 1 x 500GB WD 7200rpm 2.5" drive XFX XXX 850W 80+ Silver Antec p180 mini white New Hardware: Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 Seasonic X650 Gold Noctua NH-D14 HD7870 MSI Twin Frozr Asus Xonar DG Lamptron FC6 Silverstone FT02 Justifications: The 2600k offers plenty of performance for what i need to do. SSD's were from a friend, running in raid 1 for data security. WD drive is used as a scratch disk, performance and data security were not a big concern. 2.5" for heat output and silence. Moving up to the FT02, a m-ATX motherboard seemed inappropriate. The Lamptron fan controller was free and it fit the case styling so it used it. Gigabyte didn't offer fan control features on par to Asus so it gave me finer control as well. Not much of an audiophile but the major benefit from the Xonar sound card was in Microphone gain. It was a lot more sensitive and improved the recording from my shitty headset mic over onboard sound. The H80i was a huge disappointment for me. prior to it, i ran the CoolIT-ECO and Kuhler H2O 920. There was a consistent hum of the pump when it ran, while it wasn't loud, it was high pitch enough, to keep me thinking about it. I was extremely impressed with the FT02's directional air flow through the case, and with the disappointment in the H80i, i wanted to increase redundancy and silence by perhaps going passive. The NH-D14 seemed like the obvious choice with its large surface area and availability. I considered the Phantek and Thermalright; however, the styling of the Noctua was subtle, and perfectly inline with the minimalist styling of the FT02 The XFX psu worked fine; however, for some reason when placed vertical in the FT02, the fan made a ticking noise. So i decided to go full modular with Seasonic, the hybrid fan mode is great. less fan noise where ever possible. Modularity makes sleeving much simpler. Other than that, they are both Seasonic at heart. HD6970 and HD7870 are pretty heads on when it comes to performance. The main reason was that the Twin Frozr was dual slot and more energy efficient. Less heat, Less noise, Less opportunity for PSU fan to turn on. More Pics and Updates to come ^-^ Feel free to critique or ask about my experiences with any hardware.
