The story of Final Fantasy XIV is a pretty amazing one. It launched to much fanfare but soon players discovered the game was very lacking in pretty much everything. While the graphics were amazing the game itself didn't live up to the visual offering very little in the way of actual content. Most of the world was filled in with copy & pasted features so the graphics look great but you saw the same trees, the same fences, and the same buildings lined up as if they were put down by a stamping machine. Eventually, SquareEnix pulled the executive team behind the game and brought in new people who immediately went to work filling in the game's missing content. SE never charged players a subscription fee for the game and pledged not to do so until the game was fixed. In the end, the new Producer Yoshi-P. asked players whether they wanted them to fix the game or start over from scratch. The player community said to start over, and that is what SE did. The result is one of the most amazing redemption stories in the history of video games. Rather than just throwing the original game affectionately called 1.0 by fans completely in the trash, SE decided to use its failure to fashion the backstory for the new game commonly referred to by its player community as 2.0. Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn launched and in a few short weeks had over 1 million subscribers. Today the game has over 5+ million subscribers and is considered the #2 most popular MMO in the world right behind World of Warcraft. When 1.0 was in development, SE had planned on developing a Playstation 3 version. However, 1.0 failed and it wasn't until after 2.0 launched for PC that a PS3 version was developed. The PS3 was barely powerful enough to handle the game. Frame rates were low especially in visually intensive dungeon battles and raids, but what made FFXIV really stand out was the fact that console and PC players weren't segregated as they often are in other cross-platform games. The MMO brought players from both platforms together seamlessly and often you couldn't tell someone was playing on a PS3 unless you asked them, or when they complained about the lag. SE developed the Cross Hotbar which allowed someone with a controller play as smoothly as someone with a mouse & keyboard. The Cross Hotbar can be used on PC, the D-Pad and buttons on the controller (ABXY) corresponded to slots on the Hotbar and came in sets of two which you could select with the L2 and R2 triggers. This allowed console players to keep up with keyboard & mouse players on PC even during PVP. This was rather groundbreaking. A PS4 version finally arrived which runs much better and SE even ported the game to Mac with mixed results. When the 3.0 expansion called Heavensward launched SE released an optional DX11 client for the game and when the 4.0 expansion called Stormblood launches the game will be going 64-bit and PS3 support will be discontinued. Regardless, you do have to look at what SquareEnix did with some astonishment. They united two gaming communities who are historically often at one another's throats and achieve some level of equality. Due to the innovative Cross Hotbar console gamers are left behind by people using a keyboard & mouse. It is an accomplishment that I think the rest of the gaming industry could learn from when making other cross-platform games. That there are creative and innovative ways in which you can allow gamers from both platforms play together without one having an unfair advantage over the other. The Gaming Industry has a lot to learn from the story of Final Fantasy XIV. How SE saved the game from total failure and united two ideologically opposed gaming communities in such a seamless way that you don't really think about it when playing. You don't wonder if that Tank or Healer is on PS4 or PC, you just go with the flow. There are no markers on characters letting you know what platform they're on, that was a smart move by SquareEnix. You just play the game, no worrying about whether someone is using a gamepad or a fancy mechanical gaming keyboard. You often can't tell if they are and that is the beauty of what SE accomplished with this game. When a developer makes a cross-platform game they should look at Final Fantasy XIV for inspiration. While what SE used might not work for every game it may be able to give them the inspiration to come up with new kinds of innovative gameplay styles that allow gamers from both platforms to play together seamlessly without either side having a distinct advantage or handicap. As the gaming industry continues to push Sony to accept more cross-platform gaming in the future we'll need innovative new ideas to keep the playing field even fair for all platforms. --Michael C. Hey there guys, lately ive been playing this action mmo called Black Desert Online, maybe u have heard of it. The thing is, i think i may be experiencing some kind of bottleneck with my current hardware, the game is heavy and demanding but i can easily run BF4 in ultra, Overwatch and some other tittles without any problem, ALSO, ive changed the settings between low, medium, high and very high, and no noticeable fps change between even the nvidia geforce recommends running it at very high, well here is my current hardware Mobo: Gigabyte GA-B85M-DS3H-A PSU: CoolerMaster 750w CPU: Intel i7 4790 RAM: 2x8GB DDR3 Kingston Hyperx Fury (16GB) Graphics: Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 HDD: ST500DM002 (500GB Seagate) WD500AKX (500GB WD) Display: Some samsung syncmaster 21.5" 60hz Note: Running windows 10x64, also im able to push the graphics +150Mhz gpu clock to a (1529Mhz w kboost) and +850mem clock with afterburner, temperatures are between 45~60ish at its highest. Note2: running Kboost because the game seems to down clock the card I'd like to know if u think gething an SSD may increase the performance of the game, because of its nature of being heavy, CPU and RAM usage are like 50% with Chrome,Netflix, Photoshop etc at the same time, but, im gething some "spikes" in the HDD graph on resources monitor, ill drop some screens Let me know what you guys think hopefully the Graphics card and the cpu are enough to provide better performance but being draged by something else. Thank you very much! O/ (Disco = HDD or Drive in english)

I really want to get into an MMORPG, but getting one where I can play with the same people often. Personally, I like space based rpg's and would probably consider a medieval fantasy type game so long as it wasn't overly cartoonified (bright swishes for swords, magic etc.) What does everyone here play and is there any games where there are already LTT crews/guilds?

So, I spent a lot of time in my teens on MMOs (mainly Runescape). I was wondering if anyone still plays them. It seems to me nowadays everything is a triple A title, indie game or an e-sport. If they're still any good, what are the most played ones?

Hey guys, lately I have been looking for a great MMORPG that is free to play all the way without level limits and the like, that is also view-able in the first person, (and perferably not owned by a Tencent or one of their subsidiaries like Blizzard or Riot Games), and I decided why not ask what the LTT community has been playing. (P.S. a good Sci-Fi or Sci-Fa would be nice.

I am attempting to use ICUE for my strafe rgb keyboard, and my scimitar. However, I ran into the issue of being unable to use ICUE at all. For one thing, all keys become a backspace on my keyboard. I tried hard resetting, checking my registry with ccleaner like they said, checking if its a hardware issue, going back to a previous stable version, reinstalling the engine, and my OS. Anyone know what else I can try to get it to work? I'm not using a profile.

A popular MMORPG Guild Wars 2's developer decided decided to include a spyware in one of its build to list and hash all running process on your PC and send back ALL the information silently and if any of the hashes matched a potential cheating software, you would get banned. Even if the program wasn't interacting with the game in question. The initial reddit post about this (with a huge deal of information of how exactly they do it) can be found here. My thoughts; This is a huge concern but not so much about data leakage, rather than the fact that they are repeatedly hashing and collecting information client side and then sending all of the data to server side, which puts a huge strain on network and resources specially if you aren't using SSDs. furthermore, sending so much data that is pretty much irrelevant to your own program can be considered as a breach of privacy. Plus the fact that, if a person is using for example CheatEngine for a different game, and its running in the background, and the spyware sees it, its just going to assume you were cheating in the primary game and ban you, which is BS considering you paid for a game and got banned for having a potential cheat software even installed on your device. A better way to do this would be to collect information and compare it with a list of hashes client side and send over only anomalies. this method is used by almost every other game anti-cheat system. Sending over process lists and memory dumps to some server online without even notifying the user is BAD PRACTICE. WoW's anti-cheat does this as far as I know. What are your thoughts on this? do you guys think such an aggressive and intrusive tactic should be okay if it means just catching cheaters?

Final Fantasy XIV has been with me since 2.0b and I hated it on the PS3 and it's controller. It was only on the PC that I fell in the love with the game and being able to tie skills to every button on my Naga's 12 extra buttons. I do play on PS4 but I struggle with the cross hotbar. There's extra button presses for me changing between skills, and the fact I have to hold R2 or L2 with everything is a pain in my eyes. Still, nothing beats doing roulettes as a White Mage whilst kicking back on the sofa, controller in hand. What about you? What's your FFXIV controller preference, and why?

On november 2012, Darkfall Online shut down after a year of abandon from it's Indie Developer, Aventurine. leaving a small but passionate community in despair. A community for whom MMORPGs would be ruined forever. Or so they tought. (SFX: DUN-DUN-DUUUUN!!!) Read Spoiler for why it ruined MMORPGs for them A new company called Big Picture Games recently announced that they managed to secure a license to launch the game again as well as a little teaser. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6WbGjCQ5uE As for me, I'm part of that community, I've tried many MMORPGs since then, many of which used PvP as a selling point but none of them actually delivered and I couldnt be more thrilled about it coming back. source: https://darkfallriseofagon.com/news/licensing-update/ second source: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/1380/view/news/page/1/read/38500/Darkfall-Rise-of-Agon-Darkfall-Rise-of-Agon-Awarded-Licensing-for-Development.html

Hey, So I currently own the Razer Naga Classic. Since I play a lot of MMOs, the 12 buttons on the side are of great use to me, but I've come across a problem that drives me absolutely insane now. The mouse click. This mouse is one of the loudest gaming mice I have seen, but of course I didn't notice it until I began recording and could hear myself clicking in the background... I'm generally a fan of Razer products, but when it comes to mice I don't know many other brands to go to. I'm fine paying anywhere under $200 for a quality mouse, and if anyone has any recommendations I would really appreciate it! My only criteria is that it has side buttons and the quietest click possible... hopefully such a thing exists. Edit: I forgot to mention that I have pretty small hands and a claw grip, so wider mice are a bit difficult for me to use comfortably. Other than that, I'm open to look at anything!

Hi there, I've been researching gaming laptops for the past little while, but given all the options and (my reasonably limited knowledge of computer specs ), I'm still stuck between a few options. I'm looking for a laptop that can run heavily modded rpgs: specifically Skyrim, as well as mmorpgs (Wow, ESO, FFXIV, etc.) at ~60fps+. The only non-gaming thing I'm looking to use it for would be coding and watching youtube videos, and ideally it would cost me no more than $2500 USD. What I've narrowed it down to so far is: -Razer Blade 2015 14" http://www.razerzone.com/ca-en/store/razer-blade-2014 -and the Alienware 15 http://www.dell.com/ca/p/alienware-15-r2/pd both of which seem to run Skyrim, again - my main priority, at 60fps and can handle the graphics mods that I want for it... or so the youtubers whom I have contacted assure me. I'm 100% open to other suggestions, I've been iffy about the Origin Eon15-X as well, however the colors seem drowned out to me and the MSI models I compared are too similar to the razer blade. One last thing, I was planning on getting the 512GB Razer Blade, but I don't know if the 256GB would be enough for me. I was also indecisive regarding the Alienware 15, since I can't decide whether to go with the 8GB one with the i7 processor, or the 16GB one with the NVIDIA GTX 980M & 4GB GDDR5. Sorry, haha, all my knowledge about specs has been acquired in the past two days so I'm not entirely sure what would be enough. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks in advance!
