Then multiply by 10 to get a rough idea of the CPU Mark score that would be recommended as a minimum. For any CPU that does not support Quick Sync Video, add about an additional 40% to the requirement." - https://ipcamtalk.com/wiki/choosing-hardware-for-blue-iris/#but-what-cpu-do-i-actually-buy To my understanding, Quick Sync is an intel thing, so... (123*9)*1.4 = ~1600 Basically all my CPU's are overkill for this: 6600H (18K) (3K single thread) 4790 (7.2K) 4770 (7K) Xeon (7K) To my understanding, the best plan moving forward is to forget all the other PC's, and use my Mini-PC for my home server, and my BlueIRIS box. Based on the performance numbers compared to wattage, the 6600H is the price to performance king when it comes to electricity cost. Could I make a VM with Blue Iris, and give it a single thread of the 6600H, then keep all 15 other threads for the VM Host like proxmox? My end goal is the following: I currently have a Z Fold 5, Meta Quest 3, and Nothing else. I am using a USB C capture card to feed the video signal of Samsung Dex into my Quest 3, and using Samsung Dex for Chrome Remote Desktop into a Windows VM hosted on the PROXMOX server, when I need a Windows VM, I can send something through SSH on an SSH terminal with a terminal app on my phone to my PROXMOX server to spin up the Windows VM. I would like to sell my Optiplex's, the HP Desktop Style Server and so on to be able to buy some DDR5 SODIMM RAM for the minipc running proxmox and the Blue Iris install. Would it be better for me to use the Intel XEON chip with ECC RAM for the BlueIRIS install for 24/7 reliability or will just the Morefine be good enough? Ideally I'd also like to be able to replace Google Drive by connecting the HDD Hub into my Morefine miniPC, and using the 4 HDD's in RAID 10. (Could this double for a Mediaserver too is this asking too much of the 6600H? What media server would work best given this situation?) Do you guys see any pitfalls with this plan or do y'all think I'm good to go?

Hello, I am very new to servers although having a bit of experience in linux. what I want to do is that I want to create a home server as usual but what I also want to do is let my parents use windows on it while its running. I have searched for some solutions and proxmox seem a good one but the problem is that it displays out through vnc which sucks as we all know. I want to use windows as I use normally while still running a server. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much!

Warning, simplified english. 1. My Goal 2. Hardware 3. Unusual software to achieve the goal. 1. Goal is watch my favorite British TVseries whenever and everywhere i want to. 2. Hardware is: old 775 socket system. Some core quad CPU, 1Gb DDR2 ram, 320 Gb HDD. This build need more ram. Cpu seems a little bit overpowered for this build. All parts are gifts from my old friends PC's. 3. Software. Most interesting part. I did not use any of NAS operating systems or specific software. 3.1 Operating system is windows 10 3.2 web platform is XAMPP So, after fresh windows insatllation and XAMPP insatllation i've done: Basic XAMPP configuration (SQL passwords, new database, etc) Install latest wordpress version So, i've got a ordinary web server what i done next? Upload all episodes through wordpress control panel as mediafiles organize all 70 episodes (place them on web pages) make some routing in my router, so web server can been seen in internet buy domain name buy static ip adress from my ISP Associate my ip adress with domain And this is how i reach my goal. Now i can watch my favorite British TVseries from every device and litrally everywhere. q and a How does my server performs when start stream video? Most of time nice. 30 seconds cache and then no freeze, no lag. How many devices can connect to stream video? Up to 5. Can I show this website? No because is illegal to stream BBC TV content. Sorry it is only for me. What is budget? All for free, no money wasted. Thank you for reading.

Hello guys This my first time getting to know servers. I want to have a server which can automatically backup my PC and can use that data wirelessly anywhere( on phone, laptop,TV) but also I want to have the option of access that backup data From server directly via USB,Ethernet Cable or any form of wired offline mode. And I want to configure my hard drive in RAID so I don’t loose any data if my drive fail. It’s totally new for me I don’t even know if nas need any operating system to get it work. I’m planning to get all the used components and parts Whichever you guys recommend.

So it came the day, that the good old trusty Abit Fatal1ty FP IN-9 Sli died after 10 Years of hard use. Still fixable I think, but it has now to make room for new hardware. It's way of life, at first it was the upgrade for my wifes gaming computer. I couldn't get hold of a C Stepping C2D E8400 so I plugged in a C2D E4400 first. Two of the ram sticks a 2 GB set Dual Channel ADATA Vitesta DDR2 800 were plugged in as well as a GF 7600. The poor machine was tortured in a Sharkoon Rebel9 Case in which it developed a kind of claustrophobia. After getting swapped with a ASROCK Fatal1ty Z77 Professional it found its way into our living room, running 24/7 as Media (Kodi) and Development/Test Server. Some of the Elkos died so it seems, I'll swap them out some day to see if the board can be kept and running, because, it is a beauty =) If you want to see a really nice casemod including this board, head over to Million Dollar PC and look up the Edelweis. (not my work but a really good looking mod I think) Plugged in it was a Gainward Phantom GTX 560, an awesome powerful and really silent card I loved. But it will make room too and will be kept as spare part on a shelf. Yes the ugly thing all the components are put upon is the temporary case that will be used on for some time. Here a last look at the beauty it even has RG without B:

Hey Everyone! I thought I would ask a question. Currently I have a mini-itx media server with windows 10 installed. I installed windows 10, for ease of use, but I have to be honest and say that it comes with its limitations, mainly it being windows and that I have to remote in with VNC to do certain stuff. I was thinking about installing FreeNAS, to make it a bit more reliable, and perhaps get some more performance out of it. I would think of my self as moderately technical, but I'm not that familiar with nas solutions. I have a Home Assistant raspberry pi, and I find it a bit challenging at times to configure it. My question is the following; Would freeNAS; cover my needs? allow for easier access to the drives on my windows gaming PC, Macbook pro? easier to remote into? perform better? more reliable? Be hard to setup? What do I use my server for Mainly downloading certain items photo backups plex hosting What apps to I use qBittorrent Plex media server What hardware do I have Msi z170i itx motherboard i7 6700 (non k) 16gb ram 256gb NVME m2 256gb Sata ssd 2x 6TB drives 8TB drive Asus PCE-AC68 Pci Network card I also have a 2011 Mac mini which I use to host the following Unifi Controller Tautulli Thank you for your time, and I grealy appreciate any input

Hey Guys, I am planning a build for my Storage Server, which will be used by my Plex Server. So to explain this carefully: 1) I have a Intel NUC Running a Plex Media Server (also running all sorts of indexing services from Radarr to Sickrage etc) 2) I have an old desktop PC in which I stacked (horribly) about 5 HDD's all in a spanned volume Obviously this is a horrid setup and since recently one of the drives failed and I lost about 7TB of media, I have been looking into fixing this setup. I need more storage (yes I re-downloaded the 7 TB already) and so I decided to do it decently this time. Okay imma split this up: 1) I need to decide how I can best setup the drives (What kind of RAID volume) => I don't care if i lose some data at some point, I just want nice speeds and I don't wanna lose all data because one disk failed. => Also I'm on a budget, so every TB of storage in the RAID Array that I can actually use makes me even more happy => I want to be able to gradually expand the array without a whole lot of work (if possible) start with minimum drives necessairy, end with up to 20drives if possible (20 drives of actual storage though) 2) What kind of OS should I use ? ( Windows - Linux (distrib?) - FreeNAS - UNRAID ) => Have worked with both Linux & Windows so neither is a problem 3) Should I (over time, because budget reasons ), combine the storage array and the plex system into one ? => AKA should they be on the same system ? Or is there almost no difference when I make the plex system take it's media from network drives ? (like I do now) I can deliver all the details and updates you want, here are the ones I expect you to need: - All HDD's are going to be same size (4TB) - Ironwolf NAS 4TB (5900RPM) - I can't buy all of them at once (budget people ) - I intend to use (again for now) a desktop motherboard (OEM Board) and switch over to a server board (for more ram amongst others) -> suggestions are also welcome here - sata power splitters with a decent power supply connected to an UPS - PCI-E Expansion card for the extra SATA Ports - I have about 4-10 active users on the plex media server watching 1080p content - Locally I often watch UHD Movies If you need any more info lemme know, i'll be watching this thread closely

What do you do when your parents want over 6TB of network storage and you love assembling computers? You start looking on how to build your own NAS ofcourse. So that's exactly what I did. So, I came up with the following part list: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Pentium G4400 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor (€64.90) Motherboard: Asus B150M-K D3 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (€64.90) Memory: Corsair XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (Purchased For €0.00) Storage: Western Digital WD Green 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (€81.90) Storage: Western Digital WD Green 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (€81.90) Storage: Western Digital WD Green 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (€81.90) Storage: Western Digital WD Green 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (€81.90) Case: Fractal Design Node 804 MicroATX Mid Tower Case (Purchased For €60.00) Power Supply: SeaSonic 450W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply (€86.90) Case Fan: Fractal Design SSR3-140-WT 56.1 CFM 140mm Fan (€9.45) Case Fan: Fractal Design SSR3-140-WT 56.1 CFM 140mm Fan (€9.45) Total: €623.20 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-01-08 09:06 CET+0100 Intel Pentium G4400 + Asus B150M-K D3: I want the system to use as little power as possible while being powerfull enough to transcode a single semi-high bitrate bluray rip. Also the motherbord has 6 Sata ports which is really the minimum, though I would prefer 8 or 10. The RAM I still have lying around and the Node 804 has been bought second hand. Since the NAS is going to be used for semi-professional storage of business files, I want to have a reliable PSU with a high efficiency, which is why I went for the Seasonic. I'm gonna start out with 4 2TB drives in software RAID 5 ( still looking into which OS specifically, either openmediavault, unRAID or FreeNAS though for the last I would have to buy ECC RAM ) but the array will be expanded in the future when needed ( probably over the course of a year or two ). The reason I went with WD Blue's is because RED's are quite expensive in the Netherlands and since I'm going software RAID I'm not sure I need TLER etc. The two extra fans are for cooling the HDD section of the node 804. So, any recommendations from more experienced NAS builders? It's my first time looking into NAS like systems so I'm not 100% aware of all the possibilities so ofcourse I'm checking with the community

Okay, Not a big PC gamer at the moment but have had a gaming pc in the past and I stay true to steam over the years buying games on sale knowing I will play them sometime on my laptop or eventually build a new machine. I bought this Server/PC and GPU already will be here Wednesday March 25th. I found a deal on a used PC/Server on EBay for $120 Specs are http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-i5-2400-CPU-3-10GHz-Server-System-/381182782135?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=Q%252BfXJW1RxbWeKNBrakfq0x8%252Bzpw%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc i5 - 2400 3.1ghz quad core 4gb ram 500 watt Seasonic HDD Now it says the bios is locked but that's an easy fix with the jumpers/ cmos battery and flash the bios. I also ordered a MSI R9 270 for $85 on ebay. I have a 120gb SSD laying around. So I'm about $230 into this build with shipping. I just want to set this thing up in my living room to play light older steam game, emulators, and as a media center. I just want everyone opinion on my purchase and what all you think I could do to make it better. I probably will throw 4 more gigs of ram in it. Mainly gonig to use a Bluetooth dongle and a PS4 controller I saved when I sold my PS4 last year. I only have a Wii U for a Console right now.

First: English is not my first language so sorry for grammar mistakes. And lets begin. Hello! I have a dream and wish to build myself an easy home/media server where i can have all my media (music/videos/photos). Also i'm thinking nightly backups from my pc/laptops (if its possible even phones). Concept My idea was that I want to stream videos and music in my home network (over wifi and lan) to any computer or TV. Also im thinking is it possible to access it from outside my home (internet connection would not be a problem as i have 100/100 connection and its not limited in any way). I have 2 pc and 3 laptops that i would like to backup ( photos and files) and is it possible to back up android devices I dont know much about networking so i dont know what exaclty i have to do but i know it all starts at hardware level so that brings us to the next topic Hardware I'm thinking that on the hardware side I can have a small energy cost ITX system with some hard drives (maybe i need 4 tb of storage to be "future proof" lets make it 6) I want it to be quiet (somewhat) and low energy cost is the main thing beacuse if i can stream my stuff from anywhere it should be plugged 24/7. For data safty im thinking some kind of raid (5 maybe) with motherboard controller. If you think thats a bad idea im happy to recive knowlege. Do i need to set up this raid on hardware(BIOS) level or on in the OS what brings us to the next thing. Software I actualy have no idea how to set this thing up. All my computers are PC so im thinking that windows server somekind of version can do this but i seriously dont know anything in this area. So that brings us to my main reason for this post. PLEASE HELP ME TO CHOOSE OR POINT ME TO THE RIGHT WAY (I can somewhat read)(badjoke) * I need to pick out hardware. (mobo and CPU are the main thing, Do i need high power cpu or not?) * Software and configuring How to to. If you teach me im putting this all together for little tutorial or guide. I'm hoping you can be understanding and help me if I * posted this on the wrong forum * didnt use the search button enough * am asking stupid questions With great respect to the idea of Friendly Community.
