Hello, I am not too familiar with Virtual Machines and I wanted to try Hyper V to test programs, but i had some questions before i tried it out. 1.Does adding a virtual machine ( of Windows 10 using Hyper V) slow down my computer when i do not have it opened. (Basically does it run in the background when i am not using it) 2. Are my specs fine to run it? (I have a AMD FX 6300 6 Core, 8gb ram, Powercooler Radeon r9 270, Windows 10 Pro, also i don't have an SSD so i'm not sure if that will be a big deal or not) 3. Can viruses from a VM be transfer to my main desktop? (Not that i am trying to download viruses but the programs i want to test i am testing to see if they do have viruses) 4. If in the the future i need more room on my computer am i able to delete the VM and the OS with it? Thanks in advance!!!

hey guys .. i bought my new gaming pc yesterday and i am waiting for the lab to build it my pc is : gpu: 1080ti rog strix 11gb cpu: i7 8700k motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero my question is : can this pc run two diffrent machines for gaming ? i mean can me and my brother have his own screen and his own keyboard and mouse and play what he wants and all this on the same pc? or the 1080ti cant handle two machines and if it can handle how i can do this ?

Hello everyone, I am trying to get my feet wet with virtual machines and I'm having a hard time getting enough information to get started. First question - does mounting VMs to my physical machine require it to always be in that configuration. IE can I have options that allow me to have 2,4 or 6 VMs running depending on the situation that day. Second - do I need multiple physical HDDs or multiple instances of an OS to run these VMs Third - I am mostly looking to use VMs for number crunching / automated workloads where I do not need to have the ongoing task displayed. would I need to have graphics hardward (integrated or VGA card) attached to these VMs? Currently I am running a Threadripper 1950x, Aorus Gaming 7 MoBo, 16 Gigs of RAM and an HD 7850 graphics card (yes this card makes me sad too) Any information or directions you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. I am new to the forum and forum formats in general so if I need to make any amendments to this post please let me know.

Hi, so basically at the moment i'm testing out a few windows server features such as Active Directory, WDS and MDT. As you may or may not know Active Directory requires the same server to have its own DNS and DHCP. Recently as i have a domain and setup i believe its to do with PXE in deployment bench as seen in the screenshot here (https://gyazo.com/83d8ef9c4f8fd8abdd9f881244d6a6c2). Since if i startup a new machine i want it to just to be able to connect to the network and see PXE without having to approve it etc. So my question is how can i stop other devices on and joining my network e.g my phone being effect by this DHCP? Since when DHCP hands out the info the DNS is set to be the server and not a DNS like 8.8.8.8. Also i was wondering if there was a program that you can run virtual machines but have them all kind of trapped in there own network but have internet access?

Hello, i have a Old Machines , i wanted to "ressurect" them back to life, because my primary computer has died (mobo reached it's lifespan) here is the spec Pentium Core duo E2160 P5GD-2X ASUS 1GB Hynix DDR2, 1.5GB Hynix DDR2 (2.5GB) Seagate SATA2 80GB CX500 the VGA i'll attempt to install GTX970. (is it safe? will it damage my card?) can this spec handle windows 10? i will try to install it just for basic compute-transferring my data to my laptop, while waiting new CPU and mobo oh btw, can it support 3TB WDC ?

So guys, I have two Virtual Machines and four Ethernet Ports (two separate NICs). I want one VM to have access to one bridge of two of the ethernet ports, and the other VM to have access to another bridge of the other two ethernet ports. My question is: Is it better to bridge them in the Host OS, or in the VM? The reason I ask is because in the Host OS, you can only create one bridge AFAIK (this is in Windows 2008 R2 Server). I tried making two, it wouldn't let me. My idea was to create 4 Virtual Networks in HyperV, and give 2 to each Virtual Machine, then bridge them in the Virtual Machine's OS. Is there a negative to this? Good/bad idea? Or is this just how it's usually done? Note that there will also be an internal Virtual Network between the two VM's so they can communicate without going through switches or the NICs. They'll be doing that a lot, so yeah.

Today at 6pm (GMT) the second countdown came to an end and as the result, Valve announced the Steam Machines. This is the 2nd announcement out of the 3 as teased earlier (Thread about the teaser: LINK). The 3rd announcement will take place in 2 days yet again. The only thing I can think of now is one of the sequels being revealed. Just like we all expected Valve is bringing us the Steam Box however the official name isn't revealed yet but they are referred to it as Steam Machines. These new machines will be available for purchase in the beginning of 2014 and there will be a variety to chose from and they will be made by various manufactures. All of the prototypes for the lucky 300 beta users will be shipped for free this year! Valve also mentions that the machines will be hackable so that you will be able to put your own OS on it if you wish to do so. Even though the machine will be more oriented for the living room/TV experience you are still welcome to use your beloved mouse and keyboard. Valve said that during the beta program all of the users will be allowed to post pictures of the systems and all of the content they wish to. The idea behind the beta program will be to assist Valve with their decisions for both the OS and the machines themselves so that they can tweak and adjust anything that will come out unsatisfactory during the beta test. Just like Valve explains in the Question section of the page "A small number of users (30 or less) will be chosen based on their past community contributions and beta participation." which seems like a fair thing to do so that they are assured to receive a valid feedback from people that have already helped them in the past. What I think of this: Despite the fact that we aren't faced with any specifications and images of the "Steam Machines" just like 2 days ago with the reveal of Steam OS, we can sleep tight since 'Steam Box' is a thing and it's coming sooner that, at least I, anticipated. In my opinion Valve has takem a lot of good steps with both of the reveals making them as open to public as possible which effectively will bring more attention onto the subject as well as help to build up the hearts of the fans before the initial release of the machines and the operating system. The fact that they mention that hacking the machines is a thing and they don't mind it isn't all that surprising considering the fact that either way there would be someone that would find a way around any restrictions that Valve would make. The one thing that caught my eye but to some may not be too surprising is that fact that the system will be upgradable and openable meaning that Valve is trying to reduce such restrictions that we find on the consoles and still keep the core idea of it being a computer, however still providing a ready-to-go solution for the less geeky or console guys that will consider purchasing the beast Personally I only have my computer in the room and no TV but if Valves idea blooms with vibrant colours I may consider getting a TV and a Steam machine so that I can enjoy the controller experience from my bed 1st announcement from Valve: LINK Valve's Countdown Page: LINK Source: LINK
