So unless there is a bug on the FOLDING.LAR.SYSTEMS site, I guess someone is GPU folding on an Apple silicon chip? If anyone knows what they are doing, I own an M3 Max Macbook Pro. Would be curious to try it on that.

When upgrading, I got myself motherboard GIGABYTE B660 GAMING X DDR4 (https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B660-GAMING-X-DDR4-rev-10#kf). The board is OK, currently acomodating i5 12400F. After some daily use, I have several questions regarding RAM, CPU wattage and m2/nvme drives, and unfortunately google and even official documentation from Gigabyte failed to satisfy them, so I am turning to you guys, in hopes that someone already had same problems/questions in past and can help me. Problem no.1 - RAM frequency I purchased and am using 16GB (2x8gb) kit of RAM (Kingston FURY 16 GB KIT DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 Beast Black (KF432C16BBK2/16). I chose this RAM because it has official support according to the manufacturer, and it was very reasonably priced. HOWEVER, what manufacturer or any documentation fails to mention, is that this board only supports/can run this specific RAM on its base frequency of 2400mhz, setting it any higher results in black screen and PC starting up only to shut down after few seconds, only to repeat the process until I reset bios. I only learned about this problem AFTER purchase, I wasn't even aware such thing is possible, to have official support, but not for motherboards and memory's full advertised speed. My question - can anyone recommend me from their own experience a 2x8 / 2x16 kit of RAM that will work on at least 3200mhz with my board? Apparently, official list of supported RAM modules is useless in this regard (google shows other people with same problem on same hardware, but no solutions). Problem no.2 - multiple M2/Nvme Drives When upgrading, I put Samsung 980 500 GB drive in the motherboard, in the heatsink-covered slot (one closest to the CPU), and it replaced SATA SSD, and it looks really nice without one extra cable and works like a charm. Many people claim, that putting m2 drive in motherboard will disable several SATA ports. My question - can I get another, 1TB m2 drive, and would the PCIE 4,0 be able to handle two m2 drives, and how many SATA ports would that disable? The board have 3 m2 slots, but I am worried even 2 drives might be pushing it... Problem no.3 - CPU wattage for CPU upgrade I am considering buying i7 12700KF. I am well aware, that my board most likely does not support overclocking, and that's fine, I never OC'd CPU in my life, and am not about to start now. I just like the extra cores/e-cores and significantly higher base frequency. My question - even when not overclocked, the 12700KF can still potentially be power-hungry. Would my board be able to supply it with enough power to work properly without any risk of any kind of damage to the motherboard, assuming the CPU will not be overclocked (not like board would let me anyway). According to Intel, turbo power is 150W, but some people reported 190W when using it. I already have proper cooler for that wattage, it is the motherboard I am concerned about, as I have not experience with unlocked parts. Thanks in advance for any anwsers/advice. ^^

I am thinking of buying a Macbook Air M2 base model. I am not a huge multitasker and usually close all applications which are not currently in use and just reopen them later and i prefer to do it this way. I want to play Minecraft occasionally on high settings and a render distance of 12. I also want to use medium quality shaders. Is 8gb ram enough to maintain constant 60fps or will it start feeding into swap?

If I were in a situation where I could buy a gen3 2tb m2 ssd or a gen4 one, is there any reason not to get the gen4 ssd? It will work on my motherboard but just be throttled until I upgrade to a motherboard with a gen4 slot right? (I have an asrock B450M Steel Legend)

14” M2 Macbook pro - better CPU or more RAM?
Szmorox posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi After 7 years, I’ve decided to upgrade my old HP laptop to a new 14” M2 Macbook Pro. I am planning on using it for programming/coding university, and for my side work. I work with professional sports team where I record the training, analyse the athletes’ technic and movement, and later I edit those videos together so they can view them and possibly improve. So my question is, Would I be better of with a 1TB, 32GB of RAM, base M2 Pro chip (10 CPU cores, 16 GPU cores) Macbook Pro, or should I get a Macbook with 1TB, 16GB of RAM, (one tier better) M2 Pro (12 CPU cores, 19 GPU cores)? There is only a ~$50 difference between the two configurations. I am on keeping it for a long time, just like I did with my old laptop. Thank you for helping me out.- 10 replies

Hello my blyatiful boys so far for cloning i was using Macrium Reflect Free version but unfortunatley they discontinue supporting it, and so far for partitioning i used windows disk management and DISKPART in command console. I looking preferably for some windows application. I have in plan to test geparted but i need make multibootable usb drive with diffirent images for my needs and again copy 60gb of drivers for all hardware there and sorting this take me some time. I recently clone my windows from 120gb sdd to 512 gb ssd and i would like to merge the free space with system partition, unfortunatley windows could not do this without changing it to dynamic partition and dynamic partition cannot boot windows. Also if you have any idead what i could include in such multiboot pendrive it would be cool. I read before about Windows Preinstallation Environment and i never heard about this before and with this u can teoreticaly fix windows if could not boot? Is there maybe some antivirus scanner as bootable thing? i always use ADWCLEANER but it need run from windows itself.

Apple’s M2 Ultra powered Mac Pro is the final step in their Apple Silicon transition. But without GPU support or meaningful expansion, is it worth nearly double the price of a comparable Mac Studio?

Hello, I am planning to get a new laptop for web development work. I’ve been a Windows laptop user for all my life but I want to dip my foot into Apple laptop and see what’s up. I’ve seen reviews and just the battery life alone intrigues me. I have a budget around $1800-$1950(USD). Here’s some context, where I am situated these are some of the options that I am wanting to get. These are all brand new prices Macbook Pro 14” M1 Pro base model = 1750$ Macbook Pro 14” M1 Pro (10c-16c, 1TB SSD, 16gb RAM) = 1820$ Macbook Pro 14” M2 Pro base model = 1920$ Personally I would love to get the upgraded M1 Pro with 1TB of storage. The SSD of both base and updated model is faster than the M2 by quite a lot and with the bigger capacity I can use the device for longer without having to store data outside via external means. However, I am not sure how that battery would hold up even though it is brand new from 2021. Is the battery degrade overtime inside the sealed box? I am curious to know how other people’s 2021 Macbook Pro 14” are holding up, especially the battery. What do you think of those 3 options? Which one should I get? Thanks in advance and have a great day!

I have two NVMe drives, and these are its metrics My system works pretty much perfectly, I just thought the transfers between the two drives would be insanely fast....This is my first system with NVMe so I really dont know what to expect Btw my PC is: Alienware m15R7 i7-12700H Nvidia RTX 3070ti 32RAM *The laptop sits on a IETS cooler, so it runs very chill at all times BTW has anyone been able to download the drive manager from Hynix website? its been months, download starts super slow until eventually stops... I had friends in Korea trying to download it with the same issue.... Is that software even needed for my Platinum? Thank you ! I'll appreciate your experience comments Main drive, 1TB Samsung PM9A1 Secondary drive, 1TB SK Hynix P41

Welli have a bunch of good old spinning hdds and because i want to replace them with faster storage i looked for some options. at my region normal ssd 2tb and nvme 2tb almost cost the same. but because all if my slots are used (even sata - i am already using a pci 4x to 4 sata adapter i just want to know if there are any good and cheap sata to nvme adapter to buy in (austria/germany) online? i know using a nvme as sata is wasting speed but i only want to know if there are good options. thx in advance

As in the title, I can't boot Windows. I was playing Skyrim but for half an hour having it just opened in background cause of a friend's Discord streaming reason. When I got back in, the game was laggy and I couldn't shut it down alt-F4 or even alt-tab back. So I tried to "ctrl-alt-del" but the PC was no more responding so I turned It off by the button. However, after turning on the PC again, it booted the BIOS, and I noticed that in the boot order the "Samsung M2nve SSD" is no more viewable, but the device itself is detected and in the flash mode I can even see every directory... So I updated the BIOS but things haven't changed. I hope someone can help me with this... Thanks. Hi Forum! Short: Does display port monitor daisy chaining work with M2 Max MBP via usb-c cable? Extended situation: I`m planning to buy 2 monitors for remote work, paired with my already-bought M2 Max MBP. Right now best candidate is Dell P2723DE , (need 2 monitors and 1440p because of industry standers in VFX and so on) because in theory I can daisy chain 2 of these, keeping my cable number 1 from my laptop. Although I am not so sure it will work. Talked with Dell and Apple support, and both said conflicting information. Does anybody have experience with this solution? Thanks for reading!

I have a HP prebuilt, I wanted to install an additional SSD, I have an open PCIe x1 slot, so I bought a PCIe x1 to m.2 adapter but I can't see the drive in an OS. In BIOS hardware diagnostic, the drive appears and passes the tests, but in a OS (Windows 10 or Linux) the drive is not recognized. Additionally, when booting it takes a really long time (3-4 min) to get to the bootloader. When disabling the PCIe x1 slot (where the adapter and SSD are) it boots immediately. Any idea what is going on? SSD: Intel 660p Adapter: RYRA 1pc NVMe PCIe M.2 NGFF SSD To PCI-E X1 Adapter Motherboard: Baker 8767

Whenever I install my new samsung 970 evo nvme drive into my AORUS PRO z390 motherboard my sata ssd boot drive does not show anymore in BIOS and I cannot boot to windows. I know from manual that when that when the nvme drive is installed in the M2M connector it disables sata port 4 and 5 but I have nothing plugged into them. I have my boot drive plugged into 3 and my HDD plugged into 2 (it still shows in bios). I don't know what could be causing the issue. As soon as I remove the nvme drive my pc boots normally.

Hi people, I have a strange issue with my Corsair MP400 m2 NVME SSD (boot drive). It works fine, I can work with my computer without any problems and even turn it off and restart it. But when it has been turned off for several hours and I try to turn it on again, the SSD isn't showing up in the BIOS and my computer can't boot. I have to manually swith off the PSU for a few seconds and turn it back on again, then everything works fine again. Does someone have any ideas what the problem might be? Hello! I have recently built my new PC but am running into cooling issues, more specifically with my GPU and SSD. Here are my specs: NZXT H510 B550 Aorus Elite v2 RTX 3070 Founders Edition Ryzen 7 5800x NZXT Kraken X53 Cooler SSD EVO 970 500 GB My SSD temps when under heavy load are around 60's, the M.2 slot rests under the CPU and above the GPU horizontally. It does have a heatsink that is apart of the motherboard, which makes me wonder why it is so hot. As for my GPU, if it is under too much load it will exceed 85 degrees. I run 1440p with 144hz on gaming, but typically my graphics settings are lower, so I am unsure why it is running so high. My current theory is my case and it's airflow. With the AIO pump, it has two fans in the front and two fans on the back - one on the top and one of the actual back - pushing air out. I notice the fan on the top does not push out much if any hot air. Originally that fan is an intake fan, but I changed it to match the 2 fans I added in the front with the AIO.

Well this is a long story, in case you want to read it, thanks beforehand for helping me. Hello guys, something weird happened to me today and I don't know how to fix it. A few months ago I got a m.2 SSD from a laptop. It was brand new and nothing had ever been installed there (the laptop owner decided to use a common SSD). So I had this m.2 and I've never used it until today. I installed it on my main pc and when I booted it instead of starting on windows (which is in another storage device) it started on freeDOS. I restarted the pc and I entered BIOS. I changed the boot options, and when I restarted, same happened, it entered freeDOS. I made a boot override to not start on the M2, but the same happened. It started on freeDOS. I turned of the pc and took out the M2, and then it started on Windows as normal. Then, I installed again the M2, but this time I booted the pc with a flash device to "perform" a clear windows installation. Once in there instead of installing windows I format the M2 using diskpart and then I reboot my pc. FreeDOS was no longer there, but it didn't start windows either. It send me directly to bios, no matter what I did, the end was exactly the same. So if any of you guys know how to help me with this problem I would really appreciate that. Thanks for reading and spending your time. And sorry for my English, I'm from Argentina so it isn't my main language. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Hello. I've bought this motherboard a week ago and filled almost all ports with components upon arrival. Today, I got a second Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB that I installed on the remaining M2P_SB port, and I just couldn't get it to show anywhere. I checked on Windows (Disk Management, Device Manager, diskpart), and then in BIOS (I tried enabling CSM as seen in some video, but it always showed N/A for M2P_SB). I thought it was a bad SSD, but after switching places of the two 970 EVO Pluses, it turned out that the port M2P_SB wasn't recognizing anything (the SSD is not faulty since it worked on the MSB_SB port). I'm worried that the M2P_SB port might be faulty (I attached a picture of it), and my technician and I realized that the first 3 pins from the left look different than the others. He told me I should try tweaking them with the needle (since it seems like they're a bit higher or lower then others), but I'm not sure about that. I'm hoping that there's a way around this, since I'd have to wait quite a lot for the replacement motherboard if I sent it back, so I'd first like to ask for your help if you had the same issue, or are familiar with this and know how, and if it can be fixed. Thank you in advance! Here's a picture of a working M.2 port from my old Gigabyte B560M H motherboard for comparison. And here are some of my specs that might be useful: OS - Windows 10 Motherboard - Gigabyte Z590 AORUS ELITE AX CPU - Intel i7 11700KF M.2 SSD (M2A_CPU) - Samsung 980 PRO 500GB M.2 SSD (M2B_SB) - Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB SATA SSD (port 3) - Innovation IT Basic 240GB SATA HDD (port 2) - Seagate Barracuda 2TB

NVME SSD shows up in BIOS, not in windows/disk manager
InsenerKarl posted a topic in Storage Devices
Hey all! Recently a weird problem started with my ssd. It shows up in bios and occasionally even in windows but when trying to open a file on it it says "A device which does not exist was specified" . In bios I can see it's detected but in disk manager/diskpart it does not exist. It used to work fine, but one day it started doing this. Even when I try to format it coughs up the same error. I got it to format once but that didn't fix the issue. All I have found in the internet is to reinizitalise it but I can't exactly do that when it doesn't even show up. Any ideas? -
Hello, Been terrible unlucky was putting liquid metal on my cpu it splatter and ricocheted of my cpu, lodging under the m2 heat dissipator, it seems it reacted with this semi condutor thing or small capacitator. It worked for 24h but then started to give me blue screens.. eventually it did not boot. Now the m2 is not recognized in the bios.. What steps do I have to do? And what equipment is required. Thank you..

Hello guys. So as i say in the title my Local Disk (C:) Drive which is a Samsung m2 evo 970 plus keeps changing available space randomly (It varies between 180gb to 170) I recently downloaded Davinci Resolve 17, and it is installed on my C drive even though i changed the Installation folder,so i am guessing i should uninstalled it ? I don't know what to do,and from what i have heard, writing and reading a lot of times an SSD damages the drive. Is this going to damage my hard drive? Thank you for the help.
