So I was looking up something relating to labs the other day and I found this site: https://www.lttlabs.com/ It appears to be the alpha for the official Labs site. Was this shown off at some point? Is this supposed to be showing up on search results or no? Anyways, I love the design for the site and can’t wait until it’s finished!

Hey everyone, I recently watched a video featuring the PHSE-2KB Preheater for water-cooling and attaching copper pipes, which is a bit off our usual topics but I'm seeking some advice. I'm considering it for soldering SMD components on PCBs and am curious if anyone here would recommend it or a similar workstation. My priority is finding a model that securely holds the PCB in place at a more affordable price. There are several options on Amazon, but, I'm concerned about the durability of their heating elements, as many reviews have pointed out issues. For context, I've looked at models like the ones at the following links: Random Brand or Xtronix, which are priced under $500. However, the one in the video, which seems ideal, ranges from $2,400 (5inx5in) to $4,400(14inx11in), depending on the size. Does anyone know of a reliable, slightly lab-grade option in the $900 to $1,900 range that would include a sizable heating area (maybe 7inx7in is a good size)? Looking for something that offers both quality and stability. If the one used in the video is the, I guess, best one that you could recommend that is slightly lab grade, thats also fine as well. I would prefer quality over price. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

I was watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyu4elBIGbg and noticed where they had shown fakelttlabs.com and so just removed the fake and tried it and got redirected here, so that's probably where the actual labs website will be hosted. DISCLAIMER: I have no idea if any of this is actually true and none of this has been verified. All of this was me screwing around on the internet and finding something interesting and wanting to share with people who may be interested.

I stumbled across this mechanical engineer YouTube channel who is working on hall effect joysticks for controllers named Marius Heier on YouTube. he has posted several video's in the last several months of some amazing hall effect joysticks and showing installing them on controllers with stick drift and showing them working properly. He is making all his research etc. Open Source and offering it up to anyone or any company! I would love to see this get some serious traction and pressure be put on the likes of Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, and all other peripheral makers to change their practices. E-waste is a huge problem and stick drift is certainly one of the top contributors due to these controllers failing well before they're unusable. I think this would be a great thing to cover on the Wan show and also to get some of the prototype samples to the LAB for some in depth testing and review! Marius has done so much work on this and deserves the assistance in getting the word out and getting noticed on the big stages to make some serious leaps forward in resolving stick drift. Not sure if youtube links are allowed but if it isn't you can look him up by his Youtube user name @MariusHeier1 < removed by moderation >

Hi there, whilst reading up on transistors a few days ago, I had an idea for the "LTT Labs" branding: > TTL < TTL means "Transistor-Transistor Logic" (for defining transistor logic families) or "Time To Live" (used for data packets, for example in networks) in a technology context. Whilst the acronym TTL would already be a great name for the labs website, as it's LTT spelled backwards and could be written as "Tech Tips Labs", "Time to Live" seems to be the perfect name for a website examining products and hosting reviews. What do you guys think?

I vaguely recall from one of the recent LTT Labs videos (or maybe it was the $1M computer series) that Linus was talking about wanting to do more use-case specific hardware testing, especially for machine learning applications. Is that true? I believe that right now there are far more hobbyist ML practitioners/researchers out there than there are professional ones, and some of those are forming communities that are doing some really impressive work. For example, the RLGym community uses reinforcement learning and the OpenAI Gym specification to build Rocket League bots that compete in the RLBot tournaments. For most of these communities, including RLGym, access to compute by far the most limiting factor for progress. Admittedly Rocket League might not sound like all that worthy of a cause, but the community is actually advancing the state of the art in multi-agent learning as well as hybrid imitation learning/reinforcement learning techniques, and these advancements can have major implications for other fields such as advanced robotics control systems. With that in mind, if LTT/LTT Labs is considering doing more use-case specific testing for ML applications, have you considered whether it's possible to perform that testing in such a way that supports community-lead AI/ML projects like RLGym? If it's something that you'd like to do but aren't quite sure how, I'd be very happy to volunteer some time to help figure it out. Full disclosure: I'm an active participate in the RLGym community, but I'm not an RLGym project maintainer, and I don't own or receive revenue from the RLGym twitch channel or anything else affiliated with RLGym. I'm just a hobbyist who loves hacking on distributed systems. I focus most of my community time/effort on improving the efficiency of the learning systems we use so that we can squeeze every last bit of impact out of any/all donated compute.

Hi, LTT forum (and hopefully someone at LTT). I've been looking at mouse skates and mousepads, and there really isn't any concrete data to describe the speed/control/friction of mousepads and/or mouse skates. I feel like the geniuses at the LAB could make like a piston thingy to push a mouse across the mousepad (for a slide test. Idk if they could figure out something for a spin test). Because then you could compare the glide between them. Currently, it's just a subjective thing right now, where individuals describe their experiences in a review. But it would be really handy to be able to compare these things for the more competitive oriented gamers. Like the difference between the glide of the variations of ie. the corepads default, ctrl and air variations or the esp tiger skates. LTT isn't really doing much with mousepad reviews. They could also include something like the tracking "benchmark" that Alex did for the video about their own mousepads. This would be especially cool since the mousepad "industry" has evolved quite a bit since Japanese manufacturers like artisan really stepped up the game in both quality and variety.

Hey guys there's a lot of cases where laptops with liquid metal added to them would have the die fuse with the liquid metal bricking it after a year or 2 of use. I have an ROG G751 and I have been using it since 2014 so I care a lot for longevity, mainly because I cannot afford to replace the stuff. So how do modern laptops with Liquid metal out of the gate fare for longevity, I am at a loss. Maybe its a thing for LABS to pay attention to.

With all these different companies out there doing shady stuff (anti consumer, keeping consumers data even though they said they wouldn't, etc), I was thinking it could be useful for there to be something like a black list on the ltt labs page (or elsewhere) that gives consumers a quick look up of what companies to avoid and the reason why. I know almost every major tech company is NOT perfect when it comes to some of these things (especially anti consumer) which is sad to say. The point of this would be to highlight ones doing blatantly bad things that need to be called out and have customers vote with their wallets against them Edit 1 (adding): I know something like this would basically ban/black list all the major pc component makers(nvidia/amd/intel) making it very hard to build/upgrade a pc or fix broken parts. It would be extremely tough to boycott these companies too. However the hope/thought I have is that this would hopefully hold the companies more accountable of all the bad acts they try and pull on consumers Edit 2 (adding): Calling this/it a black list may have been a bit extreme on my end (given how hard that would be given the above comment i made in edit 1). I still think something along those lines or an advisory/cautionary list is still useful. Obviously customers should do their research but having a page like this as a go to (similar to how we go to ltt and other reviewers for general tech reviews) where they can get a quick summary and easily stay up to date on what companies to be cautions of is important. I keep up with the Wan show vod highlights pretty regularly so I am usually decently well informed with the news headlines of these bad acting companies However it can hard to see how some of these issues are resolved missing an episode Company doesn't respond or their response doesn't get covered (I know the wan show covers a lot of info so no fault on ltt here) Edit 1 (adding): I know its important for consumers to do research but things can go overlooked and other times its hard to tell how outdated or up to date some articles are on sites. Also Just having another source of media for people to research before making a decision can do nothing but help consumers stay more informed. Could include companies that were dropped as sponsors Anker comes to mind with the whole Eufy debacle I do understand that this could potentially lead to legal problems so this may not entirely be possible A ranking/sorting system would be cool to highlight the things a company had done. (examples I have here are just my quick thoughts, stuff obviously doesn't have to go in these exact categories) A minor thing and 'be cautious' about them bad customer support on multiple occasions lobbying against right to repair Medium thing 'avoid if possible' company going against perpetual licenses Horrendous 'avoid at all costs' covered up data breach heavily anti consumer practices blatant lies about how consumer data is kept Ranking of how well they address incident or policies Good being: how EVGA has resolved some of their gpu issues with the thermal pads Bad being: refusal to change As stated in the beginning its hard to find a company that doesn't do at least one of these things. Especially and avoiding certain companies where there is a Monopoly/Oligopoly (cough cough NVIDIA/AMD, Alphabet/facebook, etc. ). But for companies where there is a wider market share this could be useful! Would still be good to keep a log of the things the things the Monopolies/Oligopolies do since that type of information would be useful Curious to hear all of your thoughts! Definitely know this idea draft isn't perfect but I feel like something along these lines would really benefit from this as consumers. Edit 1 (adding): in summary obviously it would be hard to avoid all the companies preforming bad acts since so many do something in one way or another. In cases where there is large market share, the hope is to hold them accountable since there is is hard to act as a whole to do anything. For cases where there is another option, it could hopefully get consumers to vote with their wallet and force the company to change.

I think I have narrowed down my decision to what I want to replaced my Klipsch Media Pro 2.1 with. Te reason I'm replacing them is because I need either a 2.1 system with a smaller sub or go with a 2.0 system. I guess I can classify myself as a multi media user that games. I'm trying to decide between the Audio Engine A5+ (2.0 setup) or the All new Creative Labs Sound Blaster Katana. The Katana is a all new sound bar for computer use created by creative labs that is centered towards gamers. So far the reviewers are giving the Katana top picks in SQ and features and I know the A5+ would be a great set up as well. I would go after the A5+ if it wasn't for not having a proper DAC for those speakers and I didn't know how well some of my music and games would sound on the a5+ and I wonder how well it would take to stock MB sound. Personally, I love clarity with some bass rumble to it. If anyone has any knowledge about the A5+ or a better unit for about $300 usd, give or take $25, please let me know ASAP. The A5+ sale is engine tomorrow and I rather get the units while they are $319 on Amazon.

Ok so basicly i think i have FINALLY decided im going x99, was going to do a z170 itx but im gonna need sli as i already have 2 of the 3 4k displays that i plan to run. And a single 980ti just wont cut it, although i might go sli titan x for the extra vram. Help i need... is picking a case, i WANT to go caselabs as you can do all the rads in a pedestal and run push-pull but i cant pick which case... I like the mercury s8 so i can have a horizontally mounted MB or something like the merlin sm8, i think this is the case that jayztwocents has. And i can fit either 2x480 or 2x420 rads in the bottem. I will be building a custom dest to hold everything. If i get the s8 it will be floor mounted so i can see in from the top. If i get the sm8 it will be desk mounted or even on a custom shelve above the monitors..... So many choices

Does anyone have some experience with Bitcoin miners from ButterFlyLabs? Because i wanted to get one in a month and I wanted to know what it is like since there are no information of it at all.

Is it really worth it to buy a case from caselabs, or is it better to buy one of there cases as an upgrade? Since I've fallen in love with their cases but they are so pricey. And I've heard good stuff about them plenty of times like they are as strong as a tank. So what should I do LTT?
