I'm currently looking to get a home server setup for running two things and two things only. A File cloud server and a vpn that will only be used by devices I allow. I currently have a PC I'm not using with an i5 12600k. I know for a fact that it could easily run both of those. However, it also feels excessive. I have a friend with an older PC, and it uses an i7 4790. I thought I might see about trading computers so they can have the benefit when gaming and I can have just what I need no more no less. Would an i7 4790 be a bad idea and if so, why? Just btw, there will only be a max of four users on the VPN and the data server will only be accessed on occasion. If you need more info let me know and thank you for your help! In addition to the i7 4790 it will be 16Gbs of RAM and an SSD for running the server's OS

My PC works fine for 7-8hrs but when I restarts there is no post and no display only fans spinning, then I have to clear cmos and wait for a long time and then it starts again. Tried with single ram, with onboard graphics, re-seated the cpu, but no change. Is this a sign of a failing cpu or motherboard. Hello, this is my first discussion so i’m prolly violating a thing or two unconsciously whilst writing in this very forum. So i’m currently getting a new PSU, which is written on the the title, the Corsair CX550M (Grey Model) for my current RIG: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XTQ3RT Got me thinking that i got a very old mobo and cpu, should i were to upgrade it next year around, judging that i’ll be taking maybe i7 9700 (8700 as alternative) for intel based or Ryzen 5 3600 for AMD based, will the Corsair CX550M still a choice or i should change my PSU too in the future? this is the part link for Intel Base: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bBj2rr this one’s for AMD Base: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jdHzZZ and optionally, i’m also planning on getting an RTX 2060 after getting a new CPU, does the PSU will still hold the system aswell? thanks in advance!

I'll be playing a game and in the shadows where it's dimmer there will be a checker kind of pattern. Squares of dimmer areas. Any idea what this is and how to fix it?

So, I don't know when, but I'm going to be buying a Desktop, and this is the one I'm definitely going to get, I'm just wondering how well it'd run things like CEMU BotW, and Minecraft with Shaders. (Modded Optifine Ver.) I already know it'll run things like DBX2, Jump Force and Subnautica pretty great. I'm mainly curious about the first two. And feel free to say something if you know something that runs better and is cheaper than what I have listed. The Specs of the Desktop and separate components are: HP EliteDesk 800 G1-T, Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz, 16GB RAM, 250GB SSD, DVD, Windows 10 Pro 64Bit (Renewed) Around $330.00 on Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/HP-EliteDesk-800-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B07FBMSZ56 HDD: Seagate BarraCuda 2TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM 256MB Cache 3.5-Inch – Around $55.00 on Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-BarraCuda-Internal-Drive-3-5-Inch/dp/B07H2RR55Q/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=2tb+hdd&qid=1589752977&sr=8-2 GPU: NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 970 Between $50.00 to $100.00 and up on Ebay Link: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html_from=R40&_trksid=p2499334.m570.l1313.TR7.TRC1.A0.H0 .XNvidia+GeForce+GTX+970.TRS0&_nkw=Nvidia+GeForce+GTX+970&_sacat=27386 All Around Cost: Around $440.00 to $490.00 I'm not really expecting it to, but I still would like to know in advance.

Hello, i bought RDR2 a couple months ago and immediately noticed that "Other Apps" took exactly 5416MB of Vram, now i tried a couple things back then but i can't quite recall what they were but it didn't do nothing so i just waited for a lot of patches in case it was a bug. Fast forward to today where this number is exactly the same, now, i'm 100% sure that nothing other than Steam and the game itself is running in the background i closed everything chrome, icue, steelseries engine etc. But nothing, i even booted my pc in safe mode and again the same exact amount, i tried Vulkan and DX12 and nothing changed, i really don't know what else to do i even deleted and reinstalled the entire game which with my internet connection literally took a whole week so i'm not too keen on doing that again. Here is a photo of the graphics settings menu: My systems specs (in case they matter) are: CPU: Intel Core i7 4790(non k) GPU: Nvidia RTX 2070 Super RAM: 16gb 2133mhz Edit: Following rockstars recommendation i closed all running services excluding steam and rockstar and it didn't help.

Hello guys! Today i just got mad at my system performance and i want to solve it. I have i5 4460 and Gtx 1070FE and from what i read, the gtx may bottleneck a little bit in an cpu intensive games. But when i switched from GTX970 to GTX1070 i dont see any difference in GTAV (i know is highly cpu intensive but still). I must have everything on medium/high to run at 50-60fps (VSync off) Iam thinking of getting (used) i7 4790 and sell the i5 i have. Will it really help a lot? I dont want to spend more money just to gain +10fps and it will be still laggy. I mean, is that i5 4460 really that bad? it performs really poorly. Iam gaming only on single monitor 1080p Thank you for your advice My PC Specs from profile so you dont have to open another window. This is my PC now:i7 4790 non k cooled with a hyper 212 evoEVGA GTX 1070 SC16GB DDR3I have about 2020 Euros and I have 2 options. Either to buy the Valve index and an RTX 2080 (ti if that's worth the money). Or buy a PC with the i7 9700k, rtx 2080 etc. And then wait to buy the index or another headset in the future. I really wanna try VR but I don't know if the i7 4790 non k with the RTX 2080 (ti) will be enough or if there will be a huge bottleneck. Any ideas?

I am planning to build a pc and I know someone who will sell me his i7 4790 and gigabyte z97 mobo for 190$. I also have 4 working sticks of 4gb ddr3 ram from my damaged APU build. Will i7 4790 still be ok for just playing dota 2 and maybe some video rendering and web coding in 2019 or should I just build a budget build with G5400 cpu? I am also planning to buy 1050ti as my gpu for either build.

Hello dear forum reader, I have the Corsair spec omega rgb case that comes with Corsair rgb things. The problem is that its currently stuck on rainbow orgasm since i cannot open the Corsair iCue software. I tried installing it but when i go ahead and open it, the software closes again immediately (I see a process run in task manager but it closes immediately, in less than 1 seconds). Ive looked all around the web for answers and tried the following to solve it myself: Reinstall the software Delete all files associated with the software and reinstalled Tried another usb header inside my case Unplugged the 2 fans + case rgb and plugged only 1 in at a time Installed an older version of iCue Installed the old Link software, i can open that but its no use to me Yelled at the pc Run the program as administrator Run the program in compatibility mode But nothing seems to work. My specs are: Windows 10 pro V1903 64bit build 18362.535 Bios: SMBIOSBIOSVersion F7 i7 4790 Gigabyte gaming 3 corsair spec omega rgb case Strix gtx 1070 24gb ram 750W psu Can anyone help me in my frustration? Thanks already for any help! - Po

hi guys, i'm new in this forum and i really need some good suggestions about what i'm going to do. specs i have currently: - mb msi h81m e-33 - cpu i5 4460 3.2 ghz 6mb cache - ram 4x2 ddr3 1600 mhz - asus radeon hd 7970 3go gddr5 384bit directcuii i'm going to upgrade from my i5 to i7 4790 and from radeom hd 7970 to rx 580, this should be fine to play current games at good fps! and i'm gonna get 2x8 rams ddr3 1600 with a combo like thatvi don't really have to buy a whole new motherboard and new ddr4 ram and new cpu 6th/7th generation. so with that been said, which is good? upgrade with the same motherboard and ram or change the whole thing! keep in mind that i can't afford to buy new mb and new ddr4 rams. thanks.

Hey guys, I am not 100% sure but I feel as my computer is underperforming in games. My specs are an i7 4790, gigabyte rx 480 8gb, 24gb ram, ssd, etc. Im running windows 10 as well. When I play black ops 4 the game seems to not run exactly smooth, I get sometimes 80 fps and dip into low 50s and mid 40s in blackout at 1080p medium settings. However some other games seem to run fine, such as rainbow six siege, which i run in ultra at about 100 fps. I'd like to know, is my computer underperforming? or do I need to upgrade? And would a gpu or cpu upgrade help more, thanks!

hi, i have i7 4790, vega 64, 16gigs of 1600mhz ram powered by thermaltak smart se 730w playing on lg ultrawide 2560x1080@80hz. as u can see from the pic i get fairly good results when benchmarking, better than 88% of users, but still i get bad performance when gaming on medium high settings and not highest available settings. i can barely stay in 70s FPS, with huge drops of FPS to 50s, although temps are fine, all drivers are upto date, cpu and gpu not hitting 100% usage in most cases, all set to high performance. games like total war warhammer 2, struggle in battles 10 vs 10, fps reaches 40s. vermintide 2, same issue. BO4 and BF5, huge FPS drops and instability. wildlands, huge FPS drops to 50s. sudden strike, company of heroes, runs shit always. some games runs good and steady fps like the division, shadow of war, shadow of the tomb raider. is it my psu? my cpu or my ram? attached 3d mark time spy results.

hi, so i run userbenchmark mutliple times and got a very good results as per the attached screenshots, although temps are fine, no thermal throttling, all set to high performance settings, i cant see this reflecting on gaming. my rig is i7 4790 vega 64 16GB (8x2) ddr3 1600mhz, 9-9-9-20 thermaltak smart se 730w LG ultrawide 2560x1080 @80hz. Fresh copy of windows and drivers. i encounter bad FPS and FPS drops in almost all games, cpu and gpu usage is between 50% to 80% depending on the game. Black ops 4, some maps works fine and others i encounter extreme FPS drops to 50s on medium -high settings. BF 5 is almost unplayable on medium. Company of heroes 2, extreme FPS drops to 40s. Total war Warhammer 2, FPS drops to 40s amd 50s even on medium high settings in medium sized armies. you get the point, eben sometimes when i lower the settings i barley notice a difference, maybe 2 to 3 frames, and thats it. what is the issue? CPU? RAM?

Hi, I have strix vega 64, i7 4790, 16GB ram powered with thermaltake smart se 730w. On wattman i changed p6 to 1630 and p7 to 1660, with 1125mv p6 and 1150mv p7 and 50% power increase. I noticed on desktop gpu is running in a good speed 1655mhz, but when gaming the clock speed drops to 1400+ max 1560mhzrarley resching 1550mhz, why is that? Why can i run the clock at steady 1650mhz or so? Even though i get frame drops and not 100% gpu usage! Pic shows max speed while in game main menu and desktop and the line on 18:16:51 is while core gaming and not the game main menu

I have the below specs i7 4790 Vega 64 @1550mhz core and 1100mhz memory. 16GB Ram ddr3 1600mhz Powered by thermaltake smart se 730watt LG Ultrawide 2560x1080 @80hz. Rig is running on normal temps, no throttling, all drivers are updated. New OS, power options are set to high performance, no viruses, no malwares. Im having issue running games smoothly, i get huge FPS drops, and low FPS. Eg. Total war warhammer 2, its hard to play the game on high smoothly i get fps drops to 40s specially when battle contains many units. Watch dogs 2, i get 50s fps regardless of quality as it will have minor change in FPS. Far cry 5 fps drops to 50s on high, company of heroes in 50s amd sometimes 40s, mass affect andromeda similar issue. BO4, get fps dips to 50s, BF 5 is unplayble at all even on medium. Are games becoming badly optimized? I know i have a good righ that shouldnt have issue in running modern games at stable 70 - 80 FPS.

I have the below specs I7 4790 Vega 64 16GB DDR3 Thermaltak smart see 730w Lg ultrawide 2560x1080 @80hz Am having bad gaming experience, low FPS and huge FPS drops in almost all games, even low profile games. Drivers are up to date, fresh copy of windows, no viruses or malwares, no thermal throttling, all set to high performance. What I noticed that playing DX12 games are relatively better and get higher FPS and stability like shadow of the tomb raider and the division. However many other games don't run smoothly like, Mass effect Andromeda, Ancesters legacy, sudden strike 4, blitzkrieg 3, company of heroes 2, wildlands, far cry 5, watch dogs 2. All of these game I sturggle to keep steady 60FPS and in some scenes I get FPS in the 30 and 40 specially in strategy games like CoH2 , sudden strike. My cousin and you usage are always low, max in the 80s for you and 50s for the CPU. I ran shadow of war, shadow of the tomb raider, strange brigade, BO4... Smoothly at 70FPS average at my 80hz screen. I paid too much for not being able to run 10GB games.

Hi, I have asus strix vega 64, i7 4790, 16GB DDR3 1600MHZ. My GPU seema not to be fully functioning, gpu usage is low, gpu clock is lower than the max which is around 1550mhz as you can see from the screenshots below, even wattage consumption is way low, 80watts. Temps are fine, drivers are up to date. Games with issues, AC odyssey, far cry 5, company of heroes 2 and vampyr. Running shadow of the tomb raider and frostpunk are running well. Are all of the above games badly optimized!
