When I installed my i5-4460 into my computer the fan spins but nothing posts on the monitors. I read on tomshardware (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2140131/4590-4690-compatible-h87-motherboards.html) that I needed upgrade the firmware of the chip set and I'm completely lost on that front. Before installing the CPU I flashed the BIOS, which upgraded it to the 2003 version(which is the newest version on asus's website), I was under the impression that that was all I needed to do to make my motherboard compatible with this cpu. My Motherboard: https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Motherboards/H87PLUS/ My CPU: https://ark.intel.com/products/80817/Intel-Core-i5-4460-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz My Build Before Upgrade: Pentium G3220 GTX 1060 12GB DDR3 EX2Treme 650 Watt Power Supply After Upgrade(When I'm having Problems) i5-4460 GTX 1060 12GB DDR3 EX2Treme 650 Watt Power Supply Thanks! EDIT:Wrong Bios Version

I am currently using a prebuilt desktop with an i5-4460 (yes I know prebuilt please dont kill me I knew nothing about PCs when I bought it) I'm pretty sure the system was meant for internet and microsoft office usage since it has no GPU. But the thing is I'm planning on building a pc soon but I dont have a lot of money so I was thinking of using the CPU nd the 4gb stick of ddr3 memory that I have right now, and buying everything else new plus adding another stick of 4gb memory. Right now whenever I alt tab or close a game, even not a very demanding one like CS:GO my PC lags like crazy. It would take like a whole minute for the lag to stop a bit so I can actually open and use things like discord and google chrome (and im pretty sure it's the CPU's fault since if I open my task manager when my PC lags theres a 100% next to the CPU which Im guessing that means its on full load). So my question is should I use this CPU for my build? Will this keep happening with my new build? Will the ram upgrade help? Or should I get another CPU like maybe the new G4560 or wait for a budget version of Ryzen?

GPU: AMD R9 390 CPU: I5-4460 RAM: 8 GB Motherboard: Asrock B85M Pro3 CPU-Cooler : Dark Rock 3 Storage : 1 TB Hardrive I planned at upgrading my Rig but i am not sure what Parts. My thoughts are a new Gpu like 1070/1080. Or a and overall Rig Upgrade new like a i7-7700/16 GB Ram/B250 MB/250 Gb SSD or Ryzen 1700X/16 GB Ram/B350 Mb/250 Gb SSD. I mostly play games like CSGO/LOL/DarkSouls/GTA/GMOD/Minecraft and some random FTP Games. and i would like to start streaming and doing Youtube that why the I7 or Ryzen CPU.

[fixed] Hey guys, I'm having a strange problem here. All out of sudden all of my games run like crap. I've updated my drivers and even rolled back a couple of days but they all have a max of 20fps. I'm talking csgo, but also battlefield V and gta V. None of them run above 20 fps. Cuphead runs at a constant 30 fps, but i'm not sure if its capped. Could be, since its a xbox one console exclusive. I'm assuming its a windows thing, since all games are affected. I'm pretty sure it can't be the power settings. I already checked those. My rig has an i5-4460, gtx 1070, 16GB ddr3 ram. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I'm not sure if this is the right subforum either, so sorry for that Cheers, Bas

Im wondering how to boost my i5-4460 which can be boosted to 3.4 from 3.2 ghz going in to the bios. except I dont know what button to press to access the uefi firmware cause It doesnt come up with a message telling me what button to press. And also would this be the same as overclocking? Cause I dont want my pc to melt/crash.

Im cant understand why my config (i5 4460 gtx 1060 6gb and 8gb of ram) is struggling to even reach 100 fps on csgo deathmatch. Ive seen tons of videos online who use the same config as me or similiar that get 100 fps more than me. And also this IS an issue for me because Im not utilizing the full potential of my 144 hz monitor. Ive tryed everything which I can think of and I just wanted to see what you guys think I can do. Is my pc cpu limited or something? Or is it bios problems? Let me know

So I watched an old LTT video on overclocking, as I may upgrade to a i5-4790k, and got bored, so I decided to mess around with the bios of my i5-4460... which caused my CPU from being able to scale with whatever task I was doing, e.g reaching 3.4 GHz when gaming etc, but now when I pin it at 100% usage, it only goes to 3.2 GHz, any ideas on what the hell I’ve done? I didn’t change any major setting and only applied my memory to run at 1600 MHz. Before my Cinebench score was 465, and now it’s gone down to 444.

So I have an Alienware x51 r2 I5-4460 that I have slowly upgraded and replanted in an NZXT S340 case. I'm still using the ''stupid'' motherboard with means that I have no i/o shield an there's no space for some connectors because of the layout of the board. Plus the most annoying thing is that every time I restart my PC I have to press F1 to dismiss PSU sensor error message because of the external PSU. I have a 1070 and an EVGA 500W PSU 16gb of ram Samsung 850 evo and 2 HDD for storage .Should I just buy a motherboard or save up and rebuild the system leaving just the GPU? Would there be a big bump in performance if I bought a AMD Ryzen 5 or an intel i5(7th or 8th gen). And should I buy a new PSU if I upgraded?

So, I was playing the Battlefield 1 beta and I got some interesting things out of it. I'm not particularly interested in the game, but it was kinda odd the performance I was getting. I have an RX 470 and i5-4460. My GPU is running at 1250 Mhz core clock and 1800 Mhz memory clock done by WattMan. In other games such as Doom, my performance is on par with what benchmarks online say, but in this game I'm not able to get a locked 60 on even the medium preset 1080p. Any reasoning why?

Which is better? The AMD A10-7890K or the Intel Core i5-4460? I am having a hard time deciding on this because they are almost the same, their specs, etc. But which is more powerful? I will pair this up with a GTX950. Their differences: http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/459/AMD_A10-Series_A10-7890K_vs_Intel_Core_i5_i5-4460.html Does the 7890k has true 4 cores and 4 threads? Because alot of AMD APUs says it has 4 cores but in the computer itself it just shows 2. Will the 4460 outperform the 7890k because it is more expensive? And the 4460 has 7MB while the 7890K has only 4MB of L2+L3 Cache? The 7890K is latest than the 4460 therefore im thinking that this is the way to go. The 4460 was released in the year 2014 while the 7890K was release just this March. And lastly, the 7890K is unlocked therefore I can overclock it while the 4460 is locked. Help me decide on this people....

I'm planning on buying a PC with a GTX 960 4gb, 8gb RAM, PSU B600, 1TB memory, but I'm not so sure about which cpu I should buy, I know that the i5-4570 is slightly better than the i5-4460, but I'm not sure if it's worth spending 25 bucks more for something that's basically the same. I'm curious what you guys think.

Hello folks I was just wondering if i'd crossfire my existing r9 390x with another but I'm concerned about the temps they produce when sandwiched to my case. I'd really like to get a pair of rx 480's and ditch my r9 390x. I have a 750 evga g2 psu so i'd have to buy a bigger psu to crossfire r9 390x so roughly it's gpu r9 =369€ + psu evga 850 p2 189€ would be 558€ total If i'd go for the rx 480 road it would be simply buying two of those so it would be 279€+279€= 558€ (Yeah I know same price as the r9 390x CF option) First of, could my cpu handle rx 480 cf better than r9 390x cf? And which one sounds better? I'm strongly leaning towards the rx 480 option And I know there will be a slight bottleneck either ways but I want to know if the cpu could handle 2 gpu's and produce playable framerates I'm not getting a single card solution

Hey guys! So my problem is.... I was planning on buy a gtx 1070 for my rig, but after watching benchmark videos it seems like my CPU would be bottlenecking the gtx 1070 so i dont really know what to do? I have around 600 bucks to do something with. a GTX 1070 would cost around that, I currently have a GTX 960 gaming 2g. So I was wondering if I should get an GPU upgrade or not? problem with the CPU stuff is being, I have a Z97 pc-mate, which seems not to support the i5-6000 series.... And I also want to keep my 16 GB DDR3 ram.... is there any motherboard which supports DDR3 and also the 6k series? :l Or if i do need to buy a new motherboard, which would be best and cheapest?

Because of the recent (but very minor) issues I've been experiencing with my Pentium, I'm moving up my CPU upgrade date to this July. With this, I'll be upgrading into an i5 only, not an i7. Sooooo, I'm looking into used i5s and currently the 4460 and the 4590 dominate the market. What are the maximum price differences that I should consider as "reasonable" to choose the better ones over the other? (example: the 4590 will be a better choice if it's just 5$ over the 4460) Current LOWEST prices are: 4460 - 5790PhP ≈ 124$ 4590 - 5980PhP ≈ 128$ 4690 - 8000PhP ≈ 171$ It looks to me that the 4590 is the best buy here. However, these prices may change in the span of 1 month. That's why I'm asking for the price difference to consider.

Hello everyone! I am fairly new to the forum and I would like to ask a question regarding the purchase of a new CPU. I am currently using an i5-4460 on a H81 motherboard from Medion (but really from MSI, I don't get that either) with 16 gigs of RAM and a GTX 960 STRIX from Asus and I would like to upgrade to a new CPU (and later upgrade my motherboard to be able to overclock the new CPU. I need to do this at a later stage because of the rather small budget). After some research I came to the conclusion that an i7-4790K would be a good CPU to buy. Then, after a couple night laying awake in bed I realised that this chip was almost 2 years old. I started to doubt my choice and now I don't know anymore what I should buy. Unfortunately, I do not have the money to upgrade to a Skylake CPU because of the additional costs of DDR4 RAM and a new motherboard with the right socket. What is your opinion of this? Sincerely, GForce P.S. I should also mention that I usually play games and watch streams at the same time on my secondary monitor and that the stream starts buffering a ton (like 60 second+ delay on the streamer, kinda destroys the experience...) when I play even the less demanding titles.

I believe it is the i5-6500 but I may be wrong SIDE NOTE: how does my build look and anything that could lower the price without sacrificing performance? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mRwszy
-
This is my first build, and I'm going for a white/black color theme. I'm looking to use this PC for 1080p gaming on an ultra wide, specifically this model: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00VBNQJSM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1443788544&sr=8-1π=SX200_QL40&keywords=34um67&dpPl=1&dpID=41B0yGMXoHL&ref=plSrch. The games I plan on are racing games, Skyrim(modded), Crysis, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and others. Finally, here is the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ztBZYJ Note: I know this build cannot overclock. Also the budget is ~750 dollars, going under would be great.

On the build I'm doing (that many of you have seen the planning), PCPartPicker says that some B85 chipset mobo's BIOS needs updates before using Haswell Refresh chips. With these specs will that happen and how to update it if I need to Here are my specs: PCPartPicker part list: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/jV9dkL Price breakdown by merchant: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/jV9dkL/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($226.71 @ Vuugo) Motherboard: Biostar B85MG Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($66.98 @ Newegg Canada) Memory: Patriot Signature 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($48.98 @ DirectCanada) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($57.71 @ Vuugo) Case: Fractal Design Core 1100 MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($37.99 @ NCIX) Power Supply: EVGA 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply ($47.99 @ NCIX) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN881ND 802.11b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($21.99 @ Amazon Canada) Total: $508.35 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-11-03 16:54 EST-0500 Here's the compatibility message: Some Intel B85 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs. Does this affect me and if so what can I do to fix it?

Hello everyone, I built my new PC 2 weeks ago and I have been noticing that after a couple of hours (2+) of usage my RAM is always above 80%, it doesn't always effect my performance but sometimes it forces me into resetting the whole system (lags or freezes) but that rarely happens, and when i restarting my PC everything goes back to normal. PC specs: Intel i5-4460 HyperX 16GB (2x 8GB) 1866 Mhz MSI z97 gaming 5 lga 1150 MSI GTX 970 twin-v EVGA 500B Samsung SSD 850 EVO 120GB 1TB WD Blue Corsair spec-03 Windows 10 note: 1. I know not all these specs have to do with the issue but thought I'd put them anyway. 2. Everything (hardware) is installed correctly and I have gd airflow in the case. 3. RAM is put in slots 2 nd 4. Please give me all the possible causes and solutions for this problem. THANKS ALL.

Hey guys, So I'm planning on making myself a new computer, and made myself a little build. I talked it through with a friend of mine, and we came to the conclusion that this was a pretty good build. I'm curious what you guys think about it. I'll explain what I want with it below. Link: Link :D So, I've selected all the available parts in Germany, but I can get some parts in the Netherlands too, depends on what is cheapest. 1. Budget and Location So, I live in Germany, but I'm able to get some parts in the Netherlands too. I'm aiming at a budget around €750 2. Aim I am actually aiming at a gaming rig that can handle 1080p on higher/ultra settings. I'm not looking for a rig that will be able to handle 4K, as it is a bit too expensive for a student like me. Also I don't want it to be my main home computer to edit files and work on for school, as I have a laptop too. 3. Monitors I already have a single, older HD monitor that has VGA input. I'll maybe expand my monitors or buying a new one in the future. 4. Peripherals I already have a simple mouse, keyboard and headphones. I'm probably going to run Windows 8.1 Embedded Pro on the rig. 5. Why are you upgrading? Actually, I'm still a console peasant and would like to join the master-race. All hail lord and savior Gaben. Also I'm probably going to upgrade the SSD at the moment it is almost full. Thanks for your interest! -Dan

if you could advise. Because of GTA V and Witcher 3 I bought a GTX 960, upgrade from 560Ti I'm thinking to buy a new CPU Currently I have: FX 6100 with Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO msi gtx 960 2GB motherboard GA-970A-D3 8GB DDR3 source aurum series 500W gold 400 gigabytes old HDD 2x SSD What would you advise me upgrade for optimal system, new FX CPU would have made any difference in those games? I would have to come to Intel? Intel Core i5-4460 € 185 ASRock B85 € 68 Is it worth the money? Please cheap balanced solution to my gtx 960. Thank you and Im really sorry for my english
