Hello all, So i received a 2012 HP Pro 3500 Microtower PC from my dad's company for free after they were upgrading their office PCs, and it crossed my mind to turn it into a budget-minded 1080p gaming rig. I want to upgrade it to a good 1080p rig since I can only run modern games at playable fps on 720p mid to high settings. Current Specs: CPU: i5-3470 3.2GHz Motherboard: (Can't find anywhere on any HP site) RAM: x2 4gb DDR3 Storage: x2 500GB 7200 rpm HDD Power Supply: 300W active PFC GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti (Bought a couple years ago when i found a used one for sale) Case: HP Pro 3400 Microtower case I was browsing through the web and came across 3 GPU upgrade possibilities, an Rx 470 4gb, Rx 480 4gb, or a GTX 1060 3gb all around my budget of $200. Some of the bottleneck calculator sites also say that the Rx 480 and GTX 1060 will bottleneck my CPU... Any comments on that? Looking to upgrade: Power Supply (Looking at a EVGA 500W W1 80+) Case (Just purchased a Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5) Storage (looking to get a M.2 ssd installed soon) If anyone has any recommendations or confusion regarding GPUs or any other part of my PC build, I would gladly appreciate seeing them Thank you! Working on coming up with a game plan for my first gaming PC build attempt. So far I've been thinking about buying a used Motherboard pulled out of an HP Pro 3500 MT(I'm pretty sure it is anyways lol) It's a uATX motherboard that is paired with an i5-3470 and 8gb of DDR3 RAM. For my GPU I wanted to go with the EVGA gtx 1060 6gb. The 1060 would be compatible with this motherboard right? I'm pretty sure it is but most of my knowledge comes from the internet and YouTube so I figured I could use a second opinion lol.

If you were shopping for PC components on classifieds, what would you give for a ASUS P8P67 with i5-3470 & 8GB RAM. What I would like to get and what anyone in willing to give is a gap I generally have trouble with.

I'm trying to use a friends old mobo to house my new CPU in. As the tags show, it's an i5-3470 paired with an msi Z77A-GD65. I used his cpu to update the bios, so it would be compatible with my 3rd gen processor. the only issue is, when I updated to the newest version, 10.11, it wouldn't work for some reason. I then tried using the dual bios switch to go back to an older version (10.5) and see if that would work. After that, it made it to bios, but it kept giving me an error saying that there was no bootable device found, even though it was recognizing my HDD in bios and was the first on the boot list, and works perfectly in my current PC. I tried turning off legacy boot and all that stuff. googled for solutions and tried to reformat the HDD, but I don't want to lose the information on it and it wouldn't reformat anyway, for some reason (I can't remember the actual error code it gave me). One thing I did notice, is that when I was in bios, my multiplier was allowing me to change it from auto (stock is 3.6 ghz/36 multiplier) all the way to 42. Now, I tried going back to the previous version (10.11), and it worked. For some reason I was able to boot all the way into windows and the HDD worked perfectly, but upon checking the bios, I noticed that the multiplier was now locked (weird). So my question is this, is there anyone that knows how I could resolve the issue I was getting with the old bios or if there's any bios in-between v10.5 and 10.11 that would allow me to OC still (upon googling, it seems the limit is a 400Mhz OC), without giving me this stupid bootable device error? If not, am I just going to have to flash the bios over and over until I find one?

So, I got my cpu to finally work in my friend's old msi z77 board and now I've been toying with overclocking it (which I just learned is possible on older locked chips). From what I've read, you're supposed to only be able to overclock 3rd gen locked chips by 400Mhz, so my 3.2Ghz 3470 could theoreticaly go to 3.6 Ghz. However, I did that and found it to be stable, so I slowly stepped it up to the max allowed by the motherboard, multiplier of 40 (4.0 Ghz). This was stable, so I tweaked the bclk to 103.5 mhz, leaving me with about 4.13Ghz for my final clock. Now, this would be great, but I ran into some weird anomalies that have me questioning whether this is all too good to be true: 1.First thing that is weird is that I was able to overclock nearly a FULL 1 GHZ w/o touching voltage. I never ran into instability (ran like 20 minutes straight on prime95 w/o breaking a sweat). 2. the frequencies were jumping around a bit when overclocked beyond ~3.6 Ghz. When I had it at 4.1Ghz, It would hit 4.1 ocassionally, but then jump around down to 3.8 and finally stabilize at 3.9, all while pegged at 100% usage. The temps, while high, were very reasonable throughout this. The hottest core got to abou 73C while observing all this and the max temps were 77c on the package after 20 minutes of p95. 3. after benchmarking using Novabench, I started with a score of 525 @3.2 Ghz then eventually ended up with a score of 567 @4.1 Ghz on the cpu test alone. This seems like WAYYYY to small of an increase for that much of an OC. I mean, I know it's not a 1:1 increase, but 8% increase for a 30% increase in clocks? that seems off. to make matters worse, when I set it to 3.6GHZ, that only scored 532. That makes that an increase in score of 1.3% for a 12.5% Overclock. I know I'm putting a lot of weight in this one bench but really? a 1% increase after a significant OC for a CPU test? any/all advice would be appreciated. thanks

Hi guys this is Austin opps type wrong hi guys, I got a spare pc that is Lenovo Thinkcentre M92, Fitted With a i5 3470 inside, but the temperature when underload is 70more degree Celsius!!!! can I change the cooler with any after market cooler. I think it is a lga 1155 cpu so is the motherboard have the four screws holes that same with other motherboard?

So I'm new to building computers so I was wondering if there is a motherboard with a LGA 1155 socket (I would prefer Q77) that supports SLI. One that will work with my i5-3470 (I plan on upgrading it to a i7-3770k in like a year or so). For the SLI I want to do I was planning on doing a GTX 970 SLI. Thank you for the help my dudes

Hello, I have my old pc wich runs: i5-3470; 500 watt PSU; 12 GB ram ; NVIDIA GTX 650 ti (very old); And I need a new GPU, but I don't know wich to buy, I want to be able to play games like metro exodus on good settings, if needed I can exchange my PSU, if it doesn't cost to much. I was thinking maybe a GTX 1070 ti, or maybe a 1080 ti. What do you guys think I should do ? (Sorry for bad english)

I recently just assembled a budget gaming pc composing of these specs: -Intel Core I5-3470 CPU (Stock Cooler) -Kingston 1x8GB 1866MHz RAM -Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 MOBO (Limits the RAM to 1333mHz) -Palit NVIDIA GTX 1050 GPU -Western Digital Green 2TB HDD -SilverStone Strider Essential 500W PSU -Unactivated Windows 10 I have recently just built this PC and have only installed the GPU Drivers and Malwarebytes and as well as Steam and my games. Now, I am particularly a fan of Dota 2, and I'm very sad to see that in 1080p Ultra (or even just High) settings, my average FPS is only around 65-70 and drops heavily down to 50 or even as low as 45 during intensive clashes. This is a real letdown for me since I upgraded from a I3-3220 to an I5-3470 just for this game (because it is more CPU intensive, and the i3-3220 only has 2 cores). Even worse is that I chose the i5-3470 because reviews on YouTube (specially one by TechYESCity) because lots of benchmarks on there showed Dota 2 with the same CPU having averaging 100+ fps and dipping only to 90fps during heavy clashes. TechYESCity's video also compared it to the Ryzen 3 2200G in several games, and it seemed to be on par with it and was actually usable in 2019. Running statistics on RivaTuner, I see that my CPU is indeed using 100% (I ran a benchmark lasting 5 mins at a lategame replay in Dota, where fights become more chaotic) and is running at 55°C - 60°C at 3.2GHz, which confuses me because it says it can Turbo to 3.6GHz and other benchmarks show their i5-3470s at least getting 3.4GHz I'm not an expert or anythig, so the only thing I can say is it's maybe either because the MoBo is old and I haven't updated the BIOS or Chipset or whatever it's called, or maybe because I have an Unactivated Windows 10 (will buy soon). I don't think it's because of Malware because I've only just built this PC with nothing else but games and movies, and I have malwarebytes installed and have run it and cleared any threats. I want to run this game on High FPS even just at 90fps so that I can use my monitor's 75Hz refresh rate (This is also recent and I have wanted to try this, but so far, has only been achieved on medium-low settings on Dota 2). Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!

I've seen a thread about this already but it's a little old by now, So I made a new one.So, I built a system recently with an i5-3470,8 gigs of RAM,500gig hdd,120gb ssd and an Antec VP450P PSU along with a 1080p monitor for casual gaming all for about 370$. For a GPU, I am planning to get a 1650 super. Would this be a good pairing? I know the CPU will bottleneck in some cpu intensive titles but that's fine(based on what I saw online). What's your opinion?

Hi! I'm a bit of an OBS noob, but I'm looking to stream at 720p, 30fps, 6mbps with an i5-3470 and 8gb of RAM. Weirdly, I need a 4k canvas for reasons, but the stream output will be down-sampled to 720p as I already mentioned. My sources/scenes include some looping video, music, text, audio capture, and elgato cam-link video capture. It's a fairly simple setup, but I just haven't tried streaming it without NVENC hardware encoding and I'm needing to see if the i5-3470 and 8gb RAM is sufficient for h.264 software encoding this stream. I'm really hoping I won't have to get a GPU for this setup. There will be NO other CPU intensive tasks(gaming, etc) running concurrently with OBS. The most that would be running while OBS is streaming is two browser tabs. Thoughts?

I know that it says the i5-3470 only supports dual channel memory but does anyone know If it will work with quad channel?

Hey guys, I'm thinking about doing a upgrade to my current gaming setup, but i'm not sure what to do first. Either Mobo/CPU etc. or new GPU.. I've currently got the following: i5-3470 Asus h81-m plus Some rather old SSDs (would be upgraded with Mobo/CPU aswell) 8GB DDR3 Asus GTX 970 Strix What would you suggest? And what shall I upgrade to?

Was thinking of upgrading my GPU and need advice on the parts I should be focusing on. I'm afraid that the gpu I want to buy (1060 gtx g1 gaming) may result in a bottleneck situation and I cannot play the latest games like the upcoming watchdogs 2. Also if someone can recommend which parts need upgrading it would do a relatively inexperienced gamer like myself a lot of good! Thank you!
