CPU: i5 4670k CPU cooler: NH-U9B Motherboard: Asus Z87-a PSU: OCZ Technology 700w 80 plus sliver My current stable oc I use is 4.5ghz at 1.300v highs at 83 degrees Celsius and lows of 42 when running cenebench r20 renders. The images I have are my bios settings for the stable 4.5ghz oc . I wanted to push up to 4.6ghz from 4.5ghz but I don’t know what voltage I should use. I know that people have achieved 4.6ghz at 1.220v but I don’t think that I have a lucky cpu. I did try it though but it crashed in cenebench r20 before the first render could finish. Learning from other oc videos I increased the voltage to the cpu by 0.010 every time the pc crashes till it doesn’t. I went all the way up to 1.360v and stoped the temps reached my temperature liking at max 97 degrees Celsius on all cores and still did not find a stable oc without cenebench r20 crashing. The closes I got was 1.320v it passed 5 renders without crashing and crashing on the 6th render. For my standers of a stable oc my cpu has to run cenebench r20 ten times one render each time with out crashing. Is my stander too high, cenebench r20 not a good cpu stability test or there is something else I did wrong? And if 4.5ghz at 1.300v is my stable oc limit for my cpu what else can I do in bios to optimize my oc? Also what bios settings should I use for a stable 4.6ghz oc? If you want more specs or have questions feel free to ask me for them.

Dear forum members, After opening several topics on upgrade paths and informing myself with all your opinions I recently upgraded from a GTX 650 Ti Boost to a GTX 980 Ti which I was able to get used for a good price. Since my main concern about upgrading to eventually a GTX 1070 of 1080 was bottlenecking, and hence some of you already implied a GTX 1060 would be bottlenecked by my i5 4670k. In the end I decided for the GTX 980 Ti because it was a steal at around €350 whereas the GTX 1070 from MSI costs around €525 here, which didn't offer any performance gains and paying €200 for just Ansel and such was not worth it to me. So to give something back to the forum that gave so much to me I am giving some information on what the system is actually capable of in real games. Of course these aren't as scientifical as the benchmarks from LMG or other youtubers but if there is enough interest I might get around to do so. Setup: i5 4670k clocked down a bit to 4.0 GHz MSI GTX 980 Ti gaming 6G 8 GB (2 x 4) DDR3-1600 RAM ASUS PG278Q 2560 x 1440 144Hz G-sync monitor Games: FPS is given in observed ranges. Fallout 4 1440p all ultra: 75-95 FPS Witcher 3 1440p all ultra hairworks off: 55-70 FPS Rise of the Tomb Raider 1440p ultra: 70-85 FPS Rocket League, CS:GO and similar: > 144 FPS Cities Skyline 1440p Ultra: < 40 FPS If any questions arise while reading this don't hesitate to ask them. Hopefully this can be of some use to anyone here.

Hey guys i a few days ago i did some dumb mods on my case, and i managed to increase cpu and gpu temps quite a lot, so heres what happend i have a i5 4670k @4.1 ghz (stable) and due to the stupid case mods it reached 83c a few times , pc restarted a few times as well.I removed the case mods and now the temps are back to normal, but since the cpu reached these dangerous temps im getting stutter in almost every game i play - mainly gta V but some other games too.So my question is it possible that i have damaged the cpu or is it programmed or smth to shut down so it prevents dmg therefore i should look somewhere else to fix the stutter. PC Specs: I5 4670k @ 4.1 ghz core voltage is 1.140 8gb ram evga gtx 980ti @1480mhz 1000w psu fortron aurum pro (i know its overkill i had a crossfire setup previously) 1tb hdd 120 gb SSD mobo is asrock z97m anniversary

So I've got a weird one here boys and girls and I need some help if it can be provided. I have this graphics card a GTX 960 windforce (https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Graphics-Card/GV-N960WF2OC-2GD#ov) that works, just not on anything I've plugged it in to that's a haswell chip and I can't figure it out. I bought my brother the card along with giving him my old gaming PC for christmas (he just got around to hooking it up now that he's got his own place) and it doesn't work The weird thing is the card isn't just outright dead, it completely works (tested with games and benchmarks) in - My ryzen 5 1600 system - Lenovo C20 workstation I have with 2 westmere xeons - Old AMD phenom II x4 (former brain for the emulation box before haswell upgrade) It does not work in (not even detected as an unknown device, no display out from any port) - an emulation box I put together for my dad, featuring an i5 4430 on a stock HP board - My ITX system, featuring a 4570 with a Zotac H87 ITX - His system, featuring a 4670k on a gigabyte z87x-ud4h The graphics cards from each of these other computers work in his, an r5 220 from the workstation, my vega 64, gtx 460 from the emulation box, AND a 960 MSI armor card from my ITX system. This one has got me heckin stumped boys, the card works, just not in either of the systems where would want it (obviously I'd be willing to trade his 960 for mine but since the card doesn't work in that system either....) Can someone help me get this lousy headache inducing gift running?

I am looking to Update my BIOS but I am unsure what file I need to run in order to not brick my motherboard. I attached a screenshot of the files I have extracted. I am currently running on paranoid juice so I would really appreciate some like MSpaint level arrows to make sure I don't brick my board. Thanks in advance

Hello all! This is my first post in the LinusTechTips forum and I'm happy to join you guys & girls here. I've assembled a system around 2012 consisting out of an Intel i5-4670k at 4.2 GHz 1.2 Volts, a MSI GTX 650 Ti Boost, a MSI Z87-G45 motherboard, a LEPA N600 PSU, Cooler Master 912 Advanced case and some peripherals. Quite recently I've invested in a 1440p monitor, namely the ASUS PG278Q. The normal games like CS:GO and other non demanding games can be run at 144 fps with dips to around 100-120 fps. Although my bunch of AAA titles like Fallout 4 and others are a different story. Due to this I'm thinking of upgrading to a GTX 1080 or 1070, MSI Gaming X is on my wishlist, and as a delayed decision buying a set of SSD, Samsung 850 EVO; 250 and 500 GB versions respectively. One for the operating system and one for games while maintaining the HDD as internal back-up and other files like documents, pictures etc. I don't do video editing or any of that stuff, I just use my computer to game every now and then and use it for my study/work. The questions I had to this was: "Do I need another power supply or will this 600 watt (40A on the 12V rail, 480 Watts total) suffice?" "Will the CPU last for a prolonged amount of time or is it a weak part in my system already?" And any other points you guys&girls might want to criticize or point out of course! :-) Thanks all! And I'm looking forward to the replies!

Lines on screen, blue screen and failure to log in on a one and a half year old i5 4670k machine. It is also running windows 7.Please tell me if there is a better category to post this in, I'm fairly new to this forum. Hello everyone, I'm running an i5 4670k machine with 6 gb of memory, a msi gd65z87 motherboard, asus r9 270 and a 128 gb crucial mx 100 SSD with a very old 2tb mass storage drive.Today I was playing a game when suddenly my monitor went white and a looping noise was played. Upon restarting, I realised that lines were present on the screen along with other artifacts. This is presentin the bios and also on the login screen. I cannot login without getting a blue screen but I can login in safe mode. System restore does not fix the issue. I am not getting an error code on the motherboard (only AO which means that everything is working normally). Here are some pictures:https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2u-khvYcZa4eFhoWUxYen...https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2u-khvYcZa4dDlKbGU2b2...Any help would be much appreciated. -Billy

Hey guys, what is my complete system worth? http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/DWhybv It's overclocked to 4.4Ghz stable, windows 10 + linux on a crucial m500 256GB SSD, the only things different is that I currently have the noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler on it, but I want to keep that for another build, so will put a new 212 evo on it instead, and I couldn't find the PSU on PCpartpicker, so out the closest I could.. mine is actually the L8 730W semi-modular and I'll include a dvd writer if the buyer wants it, I can't remember which brand it is as it's in a box right now.. I have a bd writer on mine at the moment that I am keeping. Parts are approx 20 months old which are the mobo/cpu and M.2 SSD... the rest are newer, except the PSU which is almost 4 years old, but still going strong with no problems. RAM and case are not even a year old. So what do you think?

I've got a custom loop for about half a year and I'm still a bit confused because of the temps. You can see my specs in the signature. Besides that I'm using an Alphacool Nexxxos XP3 light CPU-block, a Nexxxos GPX GPU-block and a Nexxxos XT45 360mm rad. The thing is that I get really high temps (I think). Both my CPU and my GPU settle at around 70°C. And that's while gaming! That can't be normal, right? I'd appreciate any help.

Hey guys! I just got my second GTX 970 Jetstream, so it's now finally finished. I thought. Since I put the second 970 in, the temperatures have reached an all time high... and I think there will be no other way than to watercool this system to reduce the noiselevel and temps. I was just wondering if these are okay temps for full load of my cpu. (Not overclocked). I have had my pc 2 or 3 years now and i was wondering if my thermal paste needs replacing or somthing because i wanted to overclock and thought that it might get too hot seeing as i have high temps not clocked.

I am currently experimenting with folding on my GPU while using the integrated graphics on my i5 4670k to play youtube videos and do some light gaming. So far it is working pretty well with my ASRock motherboard set to use integrated graphics by default. There is only one minor problem - I can't use my normal fan control or heat monitoring programs to interact with the GPU. I normally use ASUS GPU tweak and speccy, but when I try to start up GPU tweak, it gives the message: Fail to load dlls. Please install VGA driver. I tried to use MSI afterburner, but no luck there either. Anyone have any ideas to monitor temperature or change fan speed? Partlist link for refrence: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nWqJ3C

My friend is currently having issues with his i5 4670k. The idle temperature is at 50 degrees celcius, and it hits 100 degrees when benchmarked it with IntelBurnTest, it also seems to throttle down to 2Ghz. The cpu hasn`t been overclocked at all. He did recently change the thermal paste, the temperature went from 65 degrees idle to 50 as said previously. Screenshot down below.

I've one part left to order for my current project, specifically the CPU. I was originally going to order the i5 4670k, then thought about getting the xeon e3 1230 v3. However, as I have an MSI Z87 MPower max ac, I thought the xeon may be a bit of a waste for such a good overclocking board. I wasn't sure about downgrading back to the i5, but the i7 4770k is bloody expensive, so is it worth the price difference? The current build, with CPU, is likely going to need to last me a minimum of 3 years, or my time at university, probably longer, in which I'm going to be doing computer science as well as gaming (including livestreaming and recording and will therefore be rendering and editing footage and photos) the i5 costs £183.29 the xeon is £205.80 and the i7 comes in at £266.93 So is the i7 worth the £83 over the i5 and £60 difference over the xeon? I will overclock if I get an unlocked CPU, and will play around with the BCLK if I get the xeon. I'm just trying to work in redundancies, such as if I need to RMA my GPU, then the xeon would render my rig out of action until I get an new GPU, however it will give me 4 extra threads and 2mb L3 cache over the i5. And with DX12 making better use of more threads, it might be the more viable option. p.s. To those who may suggest the haswell refresh/devils canyon CPUs, I haven't got the BIOS that supports them on my motherboard, and have no way of updating it beforehand, so those chips are ruled out.

I realise this is again a huge wall of text, sorry for the inconvenience. TL;DR Win7 SP1; BIOS F5/SMBIOS 2.7 Happens with HDD and SSD/headphones and earphones Moved pretty much everything and tried almost all possible configurations with RAM and USB devices ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hi all, so I've already made a thread about this, but it seems it was just too long to read. Anyquais, I'm back here asking for help about this problem, and I think the motherboard is to blame. So just a few weeks ago when I was using my headset (HyperX Cloud), one day there was a noticeable buzzing and crackling sound, with random pops. I instantly thought my headset was to blame, but after a huge amount of troubleshooting over several weeks I'm lead to believe that it is actually associated with my motherboard. Btw, my whole PC spec list is in my signature. I don't get any error messages and my BIOS version is F5, with the SMBIOS version being 2.7. The amount of times I've turned my PC off, changed something, and then tested it again to see if the audio issue is solve is as many as Pi has decimals. Used a different OS/drive. Different GPU, as well as using different PCI-E slots. Front panel and rear I/O. Moving the RAM modules from 1 [2] 3 [4] to [1] 2 [3] 4. Moving the whole PC out of the case. Removing and reseating the CPU as well as re-applying the CPU paste. With, and without the rear I/O shield. Updated every damn driver possible. I'm using Win7 SP1, and the issue was present before, and after updates with my SSD, and while I was using my HDD. I have not tried it without a GPU, simply because I'd rather not uninstall CCC, boot without GPU, test, and then re-install it again. I did notice that when I was testing to see if the other USB devices had anything to do with it, when I unplugged, or plugged one device in (like my mouse/keyboard/USB drive) the buzzing would change slightly. I'm not certain but I think that even the popping was more often when there was a large amount of devices connected to the front and rear panel I/O. Also, this problem is present with my earphones, almost identically, and when in the AW menu some times it has an added crackle with my monitor speakers other wise it's completely fine (only with monitor speakers). Another observation I have made is that in AW I get some sort of anomalies, sometimes it's just flashing/blinking lights from random objects, or shadows flashing on and off. Additionally I have seen some square part of the screen just go awol, with multiple other squares in it. It's hard to explain, but it is present while playing AW sometimes, and one time I could see it while using YT. I think that's about it, hopefully I can actually get some help this time, and eventually manage to fix this. Cheers!

Hi Everyone! Quick question... do you think that 2 GTX 780's in SLI would bottleneck an i5 4670k overclocked at 4.0GHz? I'm just wondering because Fraps gives me worse FPS while recording in SLI then when SLI is disabled and Fraps uses the CPU to record so could that be because of a bottleneck? Thanks in advance for any help. ~Reanna

Just as the title reads: I want to know if anyone has any good suggestions for a motherboard that is able to overclock an i5 4670k. I currently have a Gigabyte B85-HD3 and From what i'v read it is able to overclock but not very well or from my experience it doesn't produce a very stable clock that I can run prime95 with. I would also like to add that I currently have an h100i for my cooling solution if that helps any. Something below 200$ USD would be appreciated. I come to you guys hoping someones experience will help me somewhat. Anyways any suggestion will be looked into and appreciated.
