I'm a new member and I specifically joined to ask this. I have a mid range(?) build i3-8100 GTX 1660 super 16gb 2666 RAM and an old VGA 60hz HP monitor which is at 1440x900. As per benchmarks I see on YouTube and Google, I should get pretty decent frames while playing up to date games like farcry, PUBG, Apex and so on. But I get nothing. I barely hit 70fps on ultra on farcry, I don't get stable 80fps on Apex and roughly hit 60 on PUBG, and it's not even on highest settings. Is there anything wrong with my build or my software or anything?

Hello guys, I just need some advice on whether I should upgrade or not. I'm using an i3 8100 with my 1660 super. Technically one might say it's a bottleneck and sure as hell I've noticed that on some games. But I'm not playing much CPU intensive games, mainly because I know my CPU is not that powerful. Nowadays, I stream APEX LEGENDS and I've already configured apex to only use mostly 50 to 60% of my CPU when it's the only intensive app running (together with Mozilla), but whenever I run Streamlabs OBS it says either 90 to 100% and my stream lags so much it's unwatchable, but my game does not lag at all, I've capped it at 70fps since I'm using 60hz monitor. Just so you know I'm still a student and not in a well-off family. My budget is tight and if ever I can get a workaround fix for this one I'd rather do that than upgrading to a ryzen 2600. BTW, I only stream apex legends or sometimes Valorant and the like. And what's this NVENC?? Thank you for the help

coffee lake i3 8100 & H110M DVS R3.0 Mobo
David Hugo posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hello good members of LTT forum, I'm new here and this is my very first post. I hope I didn't post this on the wrong section. So... my nephew asked me about the all-new Coffee Lake processor i3 8100 as an upgrade for her Pentium G4560, she is currently using ASRock H110M DVS R3.0 LGA1151 like the title says and now the question is : is it possible to install the new cpu to that mobo? I heard from my friend that coffee lake processors are only compatible with intel 300-series mobo. Any answer would be very helpful to me, since the all-new i3 8100 offers similar performance compared to the Kaby Lake i5 7500 in much cheaper price. Thank you in advance.- 20 replies

I have enough money to buy a Pentium g4560 rig but I could reach out for a i3 processor..... since coffeelake is around the corner ...there is no reason to buy kabylake i3 7100. Benefits-- pentium 1. best budget cpu and since I am not buying the GPU with the build as I have a VGA monitor 2.It will save my money to buy a gpu and monitor later. it will not stress on my wallet. 3. with i3 8100 I will have to wait long for my money to build up for the gpu and monitor 4.Plus the release date is next month think but don't know specified date.... I am afraid intel g4560 might not be available at that time...if I think the price of i3 8th gen is more than i expected in my country coffeelake(8100) 1.although g4560 best budget cpu it might not be a good option to buy it as intel offering quad cores at a cheap price (i3's price) and yes i3 8100 is the target . So I am confused about which one should I go....? In addition 1. tell me the actual release date of coffee lake 2.what is the price of i3-8100 and 8300? 3.any information about coffee lake Pentium?

Hi guys! I have a gtx 1060 just laying around and was looking into just throwing together a cheapo windows 1080p gaming build when I came across the new coffee lake i3s. Now I know about stock issues and the h310 platform not being released yet, but I just cant wrap my head around the new i3 8100. On paper it looks way more attractive than the i5 7400, having a higher base speed than the i5s boost speed and being 40 bucks cheaper for the same amount of cores. So my big question: What am I missing? Should i just hang around waiting on the h310 platform to release? Fyi im in no particular hurry

Hi, would there be any scenarios where an i3-8100 be better than an i5-8400T in gaming? The i3 has a constant clock speed of 3.6GHz while the 8400T has a base clock of 1.7Ghz and a boost clock of only 3.3GHz. I play mainly Wahammer: Vermintide 2 and Apex Legends with an RX 580. PassMark here. What would you recommend? Thank you.

So i wanted to switch my i3 8100 to i5 9600k because when the i3 gives all its performance to the game the keyboard starts to have major input lag and for some reason my gpu usage drops to 5% for 1-2 seconds (idk if the gpu is related to the cpu) i am thinking i should get a cooler master masterliquid ML120L (idk if it will be enough to keep it cool) do you guys think that this will fix my problems if so do you guys have any other recommendations ?

Hello, I am looking forward to building a new PC for myself. I'll mainly do Illustrator, Photoshop and some lite blender modelling. Even if I game, it'll be low 1080p but that's not my main focus. I am from Bangladesh, very few parts actually ship here. I can't decide whether to go for- 1. An i3-8100 on Gigabyte B360M DS3H paired with 1050Ti OC - 4GB and Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400MHz 4GBx2 which in total would cost me 43500BDT or 2. A Ryzen 5 2400g on Gigabyte B450M DS3H with Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz 8GBx2 which in total would cost me 39500BDT. (no 3200MHz 4GB sticks available here.) Now can anyone help me choose? I may upgrade my build with a 1060 6gb a few months later.

At 1080p, does my cpu got enough power to handle the 1070? I do have a 4k tv i could also game on but my plan is to use my 1080p monitor for now.

So I had the i5 3470 and the gtx 1050ti msi gaming X and 16gb ram.Started to get some stuttering and high cpu usage on default graphics settings mostly very high.Usually 60FPS all the time, temps are normal.. oonly gpu usage is lower than usual and because of the 100% cpu usage i got the stuttering and a few fps drops.Switch my MOBO CPU and RAM to the i3 8100 and 8gb RAM and the issues persists.Ive seen videos on youtube about the setup and it runs GTA V very nice. This is what I got. FPS is lower because was recording it with the msi afterburner.Hopefully can get it fixed. https://ibb.co/eDx9up https://ibb.co/h3saZp Here are the results:3d mark: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/28552492? comparing results: https://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/16348378/fs/14395606/fs/16305612/fs/14419105 log link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1w8R7yBApEXYTBMJyzbnzBbd1bM0-YXN_ GTA V LOG : https://drive.google.com/file/d/17Cc9sOome2pIwgaA2MHS2BY1CG0T2InA/view?usp=sharing HWinfo prints: https://ibb.co/fGMT5U https://ibb.co/cYneC9 https://ibb.co/jeNUC9 https://ibb.co/bDOEep https://ibb.co/e5md5U

Hello Linus Community, I have a very weird and for me unexplainable problem. A colleague of my built an office pc and could not install windows on to it. The system started to boot from the USB, crashed short before showing the installing screen and rebooted. Yesterday I tried many different things. After plugging an old AMD GPU in the PCIe slot, connecting it with the PSU and with a display via HDMI, I achieved to install Windows. Everything worked after installing Windows and all important drivers and updates, even if I plug the HDMI cable in the motherboard and booted with the internal GPU/onboard GPU. And now the "funny" thing. When I remove the GPU or unplug the power cable of the PSU from it (so it gets to juice) the machine crashes shortly before finished booting into Windows. Can someone please explain me this? I built hundreds of systems and never had a similar error. The only thing I suppose to and didn't try is to change the PSU (630W Thermaltake Berlin) because I had no at hand. Specs: MoBo ASRock H310M-HDV CBU Intel Core i3 8100 SSD Samsung EVO 860 SSD 500GB RAM 8 GB DDR4 PSU 630W Thermaltake Berlin Windows 10 Home* *(EDIT)

Good morning fellow LinusTechTippers, I am building my very first pc and I wanted some insight as to how much cooling I would need for my build. I am not gaming on this pc as I use my PS4 for that and as such I currently do not need a graphics cars. The build of the system is as below: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RmQWcY · i3 8100 · Gigabyte H310M – A motherboard · 2x 4gb DDR4 2400· EVGA - DG-73 ATX Mid Tower Case · 400w power supply My question really is if the 2 stock fans that come with the EVGA case will be enough for cooling? As well as the stock CPU fan. Don’t plan on running heavy tasks as well. Would you guys buy additional case/cpu fans? Any input would be great! Thank you!

The release of additional iterations of intel's i3 and i5 coffee lake CPUs (i3 8300, i5 8500 and i5 8600) sparked much controversy due to their price points. The consensus for this controversy was that there were better valued CPUs in the same categories as the new iterations (i3 8100 and i5 8400). Recently there has been a great reduction in the prices of the less than loved iterations however the prices of the beloved remain the same. Figures below I'm curious why the prices of the new releases have gotten such a significant reduction in such a short period of time, while the initial releases who are months older are still close to MSRP. I understand that lack of sales drive prices down but the comparative performances of the initial releases and their counterparts are negligible to say the least. Why then do they exist? Is this the first time Intel has created "improvements" with negligible performance differentials in such a short space of time with an unjustified initial price gap followed by a price drop that brings about confusion and buyers remorse for patrons of the initial releases? The congruent answer would be.. "It doesn't matter", "I'm happy with what I have" and "I don't care..." understandable... Why then do they exist? why would you buy the 8400 when the 8500 is right there.... then what purpose is there for the 8400? Why do these exist...?

Hi guys, Does anyone know if the Intel core i3 8100 and gtx 1060 6gb will be able to run vr? I'm looking at buying a new pc and want to be able to run vr in the near future. And also does anyone have any recommendations on what graphics card and CPU will work for vr and the total for the whole pc would be around £500-£800? Thanks
