I am writing this topic as a critique on a episode released 4 years ago, in which Linus and his crew test surround sounds solutions in a rather simplistic methodology. The solutions tested are shown below. Now here is the critique: most headsets are referred to as software solutions. This however sketches an incomplete picture as each software solution is tested with possibly a different headset. Consequently, this favors Dolby Atmos as the best solution cause it is likely tested on the corsair hs50. Which is known for its superior imaging capabilities. What imaging is: Imaging qualities are inherent to the audio content; the headphones have to 'reproduce' them rather than 'create' them. They determine how accurately the objects are positioned in the stereo image and how transparent the imaging is. In other words: it measures the differences between the right and left speaker. This is often measured in both latency and phase delay. Headsets with correct imaging produce identical sounds in both ears at the same time, while bad imaging produces non identical sounds at different delays. Now it might be understandable how imaging can influence surround sound effectiveness and how it incorrectly shows the performance of for example DTS as a surround solution. Here is how the surround sound should have been compared: Software solutions should have been tested on the same hardware. Eliminating the differences in imaging between headsets. Then each and every hardware solution should have been tested with every possible software solution. Fun fact: did u know that the Razer Tiamat 7.1 is compatible with Dobly Atmos Home Theater?!? Interestingly Razer also warns users about incorrectly setting up the audio on their pc, as not properly enabling surround sound on the computer can result in only 2 out of the 7 audio channels to be properly used by the computer. Final Thoughts: I really hope this video gets revisited sometime cause it hurts me to see how the industry has changed due to this video. True surround headsets are no longer being produced like they used to, while Dolby Atmos is being referred to as the holy grail. But when it comes down to it, the tests were performed rushed and incomplete. Currently the best way of comparing actual surround is by using https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tests/changelogs as their tests were performed more accurately. The only thing that they are still missing is the comparison between software solutions. Greetings, G3NTs Here the video in question:

Hello, My headphones (Audio-Technica ATH-SR5BTBK) sound sound fine on my PC and phone but cheap and tinny on my digital piano (kawai CN29). The socket is definatly a headphone jack not a line out and I've tried the wire on my phone and it seems ok. I've looked through the pianos menu and there don't seem to be any relavent options. Though, tbh, I don't know what I'm looking for. Is it to do with the headphones impedance? Is there anything I can do?

I am looking to buy new headphones and am wanting to get something I could also wear out and about, I play a lot of siege and sound queues are very important, would I be impacted if I, for example, bought a pair of Bose 7.1 surround sound headphones? There's obviously the fact that the mic would not be as good, but beside that are there any downsides?

Hi The microphone from my headset only produces static noises. Nothing else. The rest of the headset works fine, just the microphone. Headset is plugged into pc via UGreen 20899 3.5mm Female to Audio+Mic Male Audio Splitter. It stopped working when I removed it to plug in my new mouse, it worked perfectly fine before that. Already removed and installed and updated drivers. Already tried a different splitter Already tested headset with other PC, worked fine. Tested with rear and front audio jack, same problem Tested with all audio effects turned off Specs of PC: Asus TUF B550-Plus (BIOS Ver. 3002) Ryzen 7 5700X 16 GB Mushkin Redline RGB Ram 3200Mhz Mushkin 512 GB SSD ID Cooling FrostFlow 240 AIO Montech Air 1000 Premium Chassis Deepcool 700W PSU MSI RTX 3060 ti Logitech G502 Hero mouse Asus TUF Mechanical keyboard LG Ultragear GN650-B (via displayport) Dell SE2419H (via HDMI) JBL Quantum 100 Wired Over-Ear Gaming Headset With Detachable Mic Windows 11 23H2 I have checked other forums, but in all cases the mic was already working but produced static in the background or it was faulty cables. In my case I have tested my products on other PC, and it worked.

So looking to get the "beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO" headphones and confused on whether I should get the 32 OHM or the 80 OHM. I know the 250 OHM you need a proper DAC for it, but what about the 80 OHM version? My motherboard: GIGABYTE B660M DS3H A fairly cheap motherboard I got last year and concerned that the 80 OHM version won't work well without a DAC, should I get the 32 OHM instead? Am I losing in a lot of sound quality by not getting the 80 OHM (and possibly a DAC if needed)? I'm not an expert in audio at all, this is coming from someone who has been using Logitech gaming headphones his whole life.

I've got a laptop that has Bluetooth® 5.3 Wireless Card. What's a good comfortable headphone for long-use and travel. I do not need it to have a specific sound and noise cancelling. Would be mainly use it for podcasts listening and content. In a store I'm looking at 450BT and Sony's wh-xb900n. They've been released a long time already though and would be looking for any recommendations for newer release if any. Thanks

Hello, I'm looking for headphones that are good for gaming (mainly FPS) and I'm planning to use it for outside use so it has to have bluetooth (also wired). My budget is only $80 USD. Soundcore q20i feels like an option but people said it's terrible with wired. any other options?

On the market for a new headset, I've used my Bose NC700 as headset up to now but it's not good for communication (BT only..), battery life is short (17hrs max on mine, it's 2 years old), and it's not very comfortable on long sessions, with my big head and glasses, too much pressure on ears and around I'm not a FPS guy, play mostly BG3 and TWW3 atm, and use Discord for comms Read/watched reviews and narrowed my choice to 2 models (price isn't an issue) Logitech G Pro X2 : good overall, will mingle well with my Logitech KB+M environment, but poor mic. Also the only one I can get in white as my whole setup+desk is white themed ! Audeze Maxwell : rated "best" by more reviewers, maybe better all around, but can't find it anywhere in Europe and can't ship one from Amazon US.. I think I'd just go for the Logitech, but should I rather wait a bit to get a Maxwell ?

I increased the bitrate on my headphones in the control panel, but that gave them a crazy echo. I tried everything I could from drivers, windows troubleshooting, restarting the PC, unplugging headphones and plugging back in. Nothing seems to work and they won't stop echoing. They were working perfect a couple minutes ago. Someone please help.

Hello guys, I recently upgraded my PC, following are the specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 7600 Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M BS3H RAM: GSkill 16x2GB @ 6000Mhz CL36 SSD: XPG s70 Blade 1TB GPU: Gigabyte GTX 950 PSU: Silverstone 500W 80 Plus The issue I am facing is that I hear a very light static sound (buzzing sound) in my headphone when plugged into my PC (motherboard audio jacks). This didn't happen on my old PC. I don't think it is a grounding problem, because my headphone make no noise when the PC is off. The buzzing sound starts when I login into Windows, and as my startup apps load it starts randomly during that period. My Windows is up to date. I tried cleaning the power outlet and the cables plugged into it in case of any settled carbon. I also have a laptop, I drive the headphone I don't have any issues there. Very weird and confusing. Really appreciate any help.

Alright let me fully unload my frustration here. Most of my search was either on Youtube or Reddit. Since almost every headphone related sub is restricted all I could do is read already exciting posts and oh boy wasn't it a mess. Saw a post recommending a headphone only for another to say how bad it is and recommend another only to once again see another claiming how bad that option is. First, I will lay down my requirements. I completely understand that their isn't an all in one solution for a headphone so I will try to specialise it as much as possible. Requirements • Mainly movies and video games. I am a 3D artist by proffesion so these two are the closest things that are really important to me. • Then comes the music. I am not an audiophile by any means and I mostly listen to edm, techno, future rave, dubstep and hip hop. So Kind of bass heavy. But defiently more about the punch and not all the way to how the beats headphones sound. • To sum things up I value a fun listening experience. And my budget is around 300 dollars. Now before you precious people start recommending me with headphones here are a couple of options I kind of settled on but hesistated to purchase. • sennheiser hd 6xx - I read in so many places about how this being a safer pick due to it having a nuetral sound signature but lacking in the fun bass department. • Epos h6pro - I was fully on board with this but linus saying don't buy a gaming headset has kept me off the line with these. • IEM's - I am fine with these but I do know that these lack in a wider sound stage. But if there is an IEM that hits the rest of the marks perfetcly I am fine with bargainning the wider sound stage for it. Even before you guys recommend anything I just wanna say I really appreciate you taking your time reading this through!

I've been using Pioneer headphones for years now, however there is a few things that bug me: Soundprofile: I love how it sounds when listening to music, but since they have quite strong lows, I feel like I'm having a harder time hearing steps, shots, etc. in games. Closed back: I tend to mumble / slur words a bit when I can't hear myself talking. Pressure: I wear glassed and the Pioneers get quite uncomfortable a couple hours into a gaming session. So now I am looking for good headphones around the $100 / 100€ mark that have a more neutral sound and are open back and comfortable to wear. On reddit, many people are recommending the Philips SHP9500 as a good value choice, however that one is not available in Germany. Do you have any other recommendations for me?

Hi, I'm looking for headphones that are a set of 2 pieces that each has a ear-hook and no hard band to connect them (like those in the picture). However, I'd like it to survive for more than 10 days, so a cheap 3$ set is out of the question. It's for a normie friend that like this kind of thing, but I just care too much for said friend to buy garbage. So in essence, I need to respectable version of these: Any ideas? (thanks)

Hi, My partner and I have recently moved to a temporary office space while our house is being renovated and we're having loads of trouble with our headphones whilst both on video calls. I have had meetings with clients where they've had to ask me to stop speaking as they can so clearly hear myself and my husband speaking at the same time. I'm really worried because we are building a shared office at home and if we can't both work in the same space it's pointless. Frustratingly when i go into my work's actual office there are loads more of us in one space but it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue. I think it could be because my headphones are trying to be smart and many voices is background noise and 1 additional single voice they try to hone in on?? I currently use Google pixel buds, but have previously had issues with my bose headphones which are very highly rated for noise cancelling. Are there any headphones which can help with this? I was thinking headphones with a physical microphone in front of my mouth might help? I can't seem to find much help online; most headphones advertise noise suppression/ cancelling but i think that's more about what i can hear, rather than the people on the other end. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello, my friend asked me for advice, since he wants to buy new headphones for better quality and doesn't really know what to get. He has a budget of 130€ Wants wireless headphones. Wants to use it at home to listen to music, play video games, watch movies/series/videos and stuff like that, which means they shouldn't have a high latency. I guess anything under 100ms should be fine. He wants to get the best quality he can. He likes Metal, Rock, Phonk and Electronic music.(if that makes any diffrence) Can you help me find something for him?

Looking for some "ear clip" style headphones (something like these https://www.66audio.com/sport/buy) for use at the gym. I have tried the 66 audio and they have really good battery life but the controls are wonky (it would make sense to have volume up at the top while skip forward would be at the front etc) and the audio and Bluetooth quality is pretty bad. Currently I am using a pair of Koss KSC35 which have great audio (compared the 66 audio) but the battery life is really awful. Things I am looking for is great battery life, ear clip style (no in ear style as they don't suite me ears), Bluetooth, good audio and water resistant.

I would really appreciate any help on my question, So I am looking into buying a new pair of headphones and decided to go with the stereo route. since I have only used headphones with digital 7.1 for the past 7 years I dont really know what stereo is supposed to sound like. So when I set my headphones to 2.0 stereo I noticed that when I'm playing for example Overwatch or ingame audio on yt that when a sound comes from the direct left I hear nothing on the right, and the other way around. Is it normal for stereo to sound that way? When the audio comes from in front of me I hear it more balanced in both ears but the sharp left and rights sound kinda odd to me. Any help or info on how to fix this would be really appreciated thx in advance.

I am currently trying to decide which headphones to buy between these for daily usage (music, little bit of gaming, communication) My country is quite limited in terms of headphone availability so here is a list of headphones I can choose from (recommendation of other headphones are appreciated but would appreciate it which headphone you would rather choose first.): MH751: heard a lot of good stuff about this headphone , seems like it is quite comfy and has great audio. Very concerned about the screw issue though. Audio-Technica ATH-M30x: looks like it's not very welcomed, but at least it is not from a gaming brand. Audio-Technica ATH-PRO5XBK HyperX Cloud II or Cloud Alpha S: Looks like HyperX is most welcomed here between gaming brands. Logitech G Pro X or G Pro: G pro x for the new generation and the normal G pro for the rotating ear cups My first priority is durability and I want to make sure no physical issues such as band cracks happen over time. Thanks in advance for anyone helping me out.

I bought an XLR interface a few years ago which I'm still really happy with but the cable from the headphone that were included are now causing audio problems (sometimes it only gives audio through the left speaker). Now I'm searching for a new headphone with a 6.3mm + 3.5mm jack for preferably under €100 but I wouldn't know which one is 'the best'. I'm searching for a headphone that I can wear for a long period of time without it being painfull during the game sessions on my PC / Switch / PS5. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Hi so i recently purchased the Arctis Pro Wireless and sadly it doesn’t fit my big head so I’ve had to return them. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a pair of headphones (without a mic) that sound amazing. Just to clarify I was using the Audio Technical M50x before I bought the Arctis Wireless Pro and the quality just sounded off to me it was flat tried changing the EQ wasn’t much help and then the white noise constantly in the background was a pain. Thanks in advance for anyone’s reply

Hi im trying to choose between certain budget audio headphones. If you guys can have some input then it will be much appreciated! Models Amazon links :- Wired AKG k92 : AKG OneOdio pro50 : OneOdio Wireless Tribit XFree Go : Tribit I do not mind if they are wired. I plan to use them with my laptop and just sometimes with my phone. I also own the Sony xm3 for travel and to be honest I like their ANC but Im not a fan of their sound signature. Wireless is an added bonus but I need them to work well in wired mode because Sony xm3 sound worse without ANC/battery. I love to listen to rock and alternative where I want to feel the guitar strings. So clarity and wider Sound stage or openness is important for me. I cant seem to choose between these 3. If you have any other recommendations then do mention but ill have to check if they're available in India. Budget is not an issue amongst the 3 so I just want the best option. Thanks.
