From the album: Client Build #1 The Semi-Modest Gamer
-
At this point my build is over 5/6 years old and I have been upgrading it as components die but I've gotten to a point where I am VERY CPU bound, I have an AMD FX-6300 currently set to the stock 3.5ghz since I was running into a lot of instability when overclocking (though that could be my fault). I know that this family of CPU's is definitely a few generations old and that there are many new features with not just a newer cpu but also have benefits from a new MOBO and case that I may be able to cable manage. If im upgrading on my current platform i've see FX-8350's for around $80-120 and that's about what I think id like to do but don't know if its really gonna be enough of an upgrade to be worth it. I run into bottle necks playing mostly COD warzone on anything other than medium to medium low setting with nothing in the background or when im playing most of my other older indie games while trying to have chrome open in the background or really any other applications. This is what im currently running CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5 GHz (cooled by cooler master hyper 212) MOBO: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 RAM: 2x8 GB DDR3-1600 GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER 4 GB PSU: Corsair CXM 750 W 80+ Bronze Storage: 250gb SSD and a 3TB Seagate ST300DM001

So my CPU is AMD FX-6300 It shows there in the task manager that the maximum speed is 3.5GHz but the speed only show 1.33GHz and the CPU only utilize 20-25% of it's power and that's when I'm gaming, and the game is very CPU demanding. and I don't think my GPU is a bottleneck because I got a GTX1060 and I got super low framerate (20-30fps) is this normal? or can I increase the speed? please help, I don't know what to do

So first of all, its my first time here so I apologize if this is the wrong place to put this. So I upgraded from a Phenom II 965 which I OC'd to 4GHz and had it there for years. I decided to upgrade finally to something a bit better then upgrade more in a year or so and got an FX-6300 paired up with an RX 470. At first I had some motherboard issues and a crappy board. It was blue screening all the time and my CPU usage (while playing Warframe in peticular) would never go above about 55~60% and I was getting some pretty awful frames considering I should be getting a pretty constant 60. I have heard other people playing on worse machines that get a constant 60. I have tried and tried to fix this problem but I can't seem to find what's wrong. I even spent a month going back and forth with the game's support until they gave up on me. The new motherboard helped my frames, but its still underwhelming. I think something is still wrong somewhere, but I can't figure it out. Has anyone had any similar experiences or have any advice? Also I am aware that the FX-6300 isn't a great CPU but its better than a Phenom II and I don't exactly have much money to work with unfortunately. Thanks in advance.

So I'm wanting to upgrade my current set up from a FX-6300 based system to a Ryzen 5 1600 based system. I want to keep as many components as possible from my current build to keep costs down. I know that I will need a new motherboard and ram to be able to achieve this. I want to re-use my GTX 1060, Case, SSD, HDD and 400W power supply. The main question I wanted to ask is can I just use the SSD with windows 10 installed in my new system (when I first built this system I bought a retail licence just for reference.) . Also If anyone can see any other areas in which compatibility could be an issue let me know. On a side note I have been looking at the GA-AB350-Gaming 3 motherboard what are peoples opinions? not sure what ram to get (16GB nothing too fancy still on a bit of a budget) I am open to suggestions. Cheers in Advance

So, my 6350 seems to not even break a sweat under a stress test on AIDA64, reaching only 46°C, which is literally nothing. It idles at 25°C, the temperature of the room it is in. It is clocked at 4 GHz, which is admittedly a low overclock of 100 MHz for an FX processor, but I lost the silicon lottery, woe is me. But it doesn't seem to get hot at all under load; I touch the heatsink and it feels cold to the touch. Strangely, it throttles down to 1.5 GHz when playing Forza Motorsport 6 Apex, but it is keeping a solid 4 GHz on AIDA64. Again, temps are insanely low. What's the big idea? I cannot screenshot the computer because obviously it is under full load.

Hi, I just bought a new CPU cooler and while it's not here yet I started playing with overclocking. I overclocked my CPU to 3.8GHz (It's 3.5 by default) and my cinebench score dropped. After trying other frequencies I noticed that as they increased the score just went down, wich doesnt make any sense. My primary objective is to improve my framerate, so I proceeded to do some benchmarks in Rainbow Six Siege. The pattern repeated itself... Then I decided to play it, instead of using it's inbuilt tool. In the terrorist hunt mode (theoretically offline) a underclock the game seems to be in slowmotion, and by overclocking things happen very quickly. When played multiplayer mode things got weirder, the animations were the same bs that I saw in THunt, but the other players were moving in a somewhat correct speed. Have I done something wrong? My PC: FX-6300 M5A78-M LX/BR R9 380 8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM

I'm about to try and sell all of it, but I wanted to make sure I'm selling it for a decent price first. I've had the fx-6300 for 2 years now with no issues, comes with the cooler. The motherboard is damaged; i.e the sound doesn't work on it, and the pcie clip/latch is broken. I'm including a usb sound adapter to compensate. The ram is just some a simple 8gb of ddr3 ram at 1600 mhz. I just need an estimate on how much I should sell it for, though I'm personally thinking around $130.

Hey. I'm planning on replacing my FX-6300 stock cooler, as it's getting a bit loud. Do I need to study the situation for long or simply get a hyper 212 (~30€). I want it to be as silent as possible, for less money as possible. Let's say the budget is 30€. Any suggestions? EDIT: Also, I don't know if gettting something like hyper 212 won't fit properly due to RAM sticks. How can I be sure? Anything against low profile coolers? Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0 Socket: AM3+

So my pc has an FX-6300 cpu overclocked at 4.2 Ghz, 8GB of 1600 Mhz DDR3 ram, and an rx 560 4gb for my gpu. I have a little bit of money and i can either get a better cpu cooler (im using the black edition cooler) and 8gb more ram, or i can get an fx-8350. what do you guys recommend for gaming? And before you say save for a ryzen or something like that, yes i know that FX series is an old chip but its all i could afford and i dont need the best thing on the market. I just want to know if I would benefit more from overclocking my cpu more and with more ram or if getting an fx-8350 would benefit more in games. ( im mainly talking about destiny 2 here)

Hello guys, I want to upgrade my PC from an AMD FX-6300 to a Ryzen 5 2600 because I was told, that it is similar to an I5 8400. My question is if I then should upgrade my GTX 980 to ZOTAC GTX 1070 Ti with 8 GB. Best regards from Germany.

I'm a bit confused about the temps shown in HWiNFO and HWMonitor. The CPU temps are fine but when i was trying other oc settings the motherboard temp would go much higher. Is that normal and is there anyway I can cool it?

I recently went from a hdd with 2 tb of storage to a ssd with 240 gb of storage for my os, but after this change my processor which is an amd fx 6300 (not overclocked) remains at 3.7 ghz even when I am doing nothing. Before this my processor would resume at an idle of around 3.5 ghz. What could be the issue here???

So I have this weird problem... In some games i seem to have a bottleneck somewhere in my system... the thing is, I don't know where the bottleneck is located... In Skyrim and Borderlands 2 I am doing about 60 fps on max settings... The weird thing is, that my cpu is running at 30-40 %, my gpu is at 50 % max, and my ram is never beyond 40 % on both system and v-ram.... So where is my bottleneck? Temps are also fine... And other games seems to be bottleneck by either my cpu or gpu, but noth thses two games... Specs: FX-6300 @4.5 ghz GTX 980 EVGA SC MSI 970 something-somthing-motherboard 8 gigs of ddr3 ram Skyrim on SSD and Borderlands on HHD...

HELP! My cpu won't stop throttling... I have a fx-6300 OC'ed at 4.5 ghz... The problem is, it won't stop throttling... It keeps going down to 1400 mhz every 30 seconds... I have check powermanagenemt to make sure that isn't the problem... And I have turned off both AMD cool'n'quiet and cou smart protection in the BIOS, but it stills keep throttling... My temps are fine btw, never over 60 (it was running at 70+ with the standard cooler and stock speed before I started overclocking (using an evo-cooler). HELP! It's messing up my aim in csgo:( cpu-volt: 1.41 mortherboard: MSI: 970A-G43

Hi there, Just had a quick question on any good temps for my FX 6300, I'm planning to go to 4 or 4.3 GHz and am using hyper 212 eco.

I'm trying to do some basic overclocking on my FX-6300. My specs: CPU: AMD FX-6300 Motherboard: Asus m5a97 r2.0 Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper EVO 212 RAM: 2x Crucial Ballistix Tactical 4GB DDR3-1600 GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB ROG STRIX PSU: Corsair CX600M BIOS setting CPU ratio: 21.5 CPU bus freq: 200 CPU voltage: 1.4 CPU/NM voltage: 1.225 So my goal is to overclock to 4.3 GHz. Right now I'm running Prime95 for about an hour. I have two problems: 1) In CPUID HWMonitor there is big difference in CPU temps. Socket CPU temp (from motherboard) shows 64 degrees, but Package temp (from CPU itself) is 54 degrees. How it that possible? Which is the real one? 2) If highest one is real one - why it runs so hot? I have decent cooler, I just cleaned heatsink and reapplied thermal paste. I will attach image with temps. Any ideas?

I currently have a radeon r7 250 and a fx-6300 and I want to upgrade my GPU to the 1070. How bad will the bottle necking be? If the bottle necking is bad enough would it make more sense to just upgrade my mobo and cpu or upgrade the GPU?.

Hi, i am new to building computers and this forum . I am hoping that you kind fellows may help with my build and give me advice in general , i hope that you would take time to read this and help me , thank you . I used pcpartpicker website to help , this is the link : http://pcpartpicker.com/list/xrRGGf Cpu : fx - 6300 - chose this as it seems like a great cpu for good budget , 6 core processor at 3.5 ghz , looks good right. Dint choose intel as it seem too expensive for a little boost in performance. Cpu cooler : zalman CNPS80F - tried to skimp abit on the cpu cooler as i do not have much money. Mobo : MSI 970 GAMING ATX AM3+ - looked like a great mobo at a decent price , most people do not pay much for the mobo , but i think that it is important for the mobo to be good. Memory : 2 X kingston KVR16N11/8 (16 gb total ) - i already have one stick , so i am trying to get a another one to dual channel. Storage - 120 gb ssd and 2 tb hdd - i was suggested to use both a ssd and hdd , the ssd would hold the important programs and the os and the hdd would be where i put all my junk into. Gpu - Sapphire radeon R7 370 4gb vapor-x -it had a discount last time when i chose it , it was 115 and i thought it was a great price , now it more expensive but i still think this card should be okay. case : Thermaltake Commander MS/I snow edition (black/white) ATX mid tower case - wanted to skimp on the case but couldnt resist a white and black case as it so beautiful. PSU - EVGA 400 w ATX power supply - wanted to be cheap. optical drive - Lite on - IHAS124-14 - felt that i needed one and went cheap. expected power usage 333W total price ~ 550 Hope u can give me some insight and tips on oc if possible

hello i have been overclocking my fx 6300 rig and i wanted to know what other people with the same or similar CPU are getting and what the highest that this cpu has ever been overclocked to has anyone got anything??

EDIT: I just realized that i didn't post this in the "Troubleshooting" section. My sincerest apologies. I've been reading numbers, graphs, and forums literally all day and i spazzed a little. Mobo: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 CPU: AMD FX-6300 Cooler: Corsair H80i Here's my issue. Under full load; Motherboard Temp #1 reaches 56C, H80i Liquid reaches 50C, and CPU reaches ~46C. From my understanding, MOBO Temp #1 is supposed to be the temp for the CPU socket. I'm well aware of AMD's Algorithms on CPU temp calculation and that it doesn't become accurate until higher temps. The part where i'm confused is whether or not the liquid within the H80i can actually be warmer than the CPU Package itself. That doesn't seem right to me. Could the H80i Pump be picking up extra heat from the socket itself? And could the MOBO Temp #1 be a more accurate representation of the CPU Temp? ...OR... Is it possible that the H80i in push/pull at the rear of the case could be picking up the extra heat from the VRMs that it's sitting directly next to? I've done a fair amount of forum searching and manual reading and haven't come across any solutions, unfortunately.

So I'm planning on upgrading almost my entire PC. I live in Stockholm, Sweden, so prices are often much higher than, for example, in the US. The parts I'm planning on upgrading are mobo, cpu, ram and ssd. I don't often play very demanding games, but I would like to have something that can handle AAA-games on lower settings maybe. But the main reason I'm upgrading us that my harddrive is very slow, old and full, my motherboard only supports DDR2 memory, which I only have 4GB of, and my computer is feeling overall slow, both in games (I belive it's the ram) and normal use. My old PC: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz Sapphire r9 280 dual-x 3GB GDDR5 Old harddrive (don't care to look up the name) 2*2GB DDR2 1066 MHz ram Asus P5Q Rev. 1.03g Cooler Master Real Power M520 520w Antec nine hundred My planned PC: AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5 GHz Intel 535 Series 240GB SSD 2 * HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1866 MHz ram Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P I'm keeping the GPU, PSU and case. According to partpicker these should be compatible, only that the MOBO seem to need a BIOS update to work with any am3+ CPU. Since I have some pretty nice deals, the whole upgrade would cost about 335 usd, 293 euro. I don't have a real budget, but I'm not going to spend much more than this upgrade would cost. I'm wondering if any these parts have been known to be bad, if the parts work nicely together and if there is something I should change. This is my first time posting, so I don't now if I should create a new thread, but I also wonder if there's any way to upgrade my windows 8 to 10 while still swaping the motherboard and storage like I'm planning to do. Thanks in advance!
