I am new here, but I would love to see any setups for a childs first computer. My 3 year old daughter watched me build my computer and wanted to build one too. I would love suggestions or pics etc. I grew up with games like Oregon Trail. Any suggestions for games, peripherals, hardware, lockdown stuff will be helpful!

I'm currently sitting in my living room trying to finish up my computer, I've connected the motherboard, installed my waterblock, my ram, two 480 rads, 8 4-pinned fans, and Now I'm hard stuck. If anyone has experience with costume loops, building a computer or a d5 pump I'd very much appreciate it if you would add me on my skype (william_hertz). My intention is to use my webcam to show you as I'm building and I can hopefully get the answers that I really need. Thanks for your time.

I know that these parts do not combine together perfectly, but I tried to go for maximum upgradeability and to just explore what can be done with computers. This video card really impressed me with it's performance. I thought "A 950 can maybe do medium-high settings at 1080p at 30 FPS, right?" WRONG. Overclocking, I got the GPU to 1.5 GHz, which allows me to play most games maxed out at ~50 FPS, 1080p. Really happy with the performance. It also never goes higher than 55 degrees and stays very quiet. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/JMWmD8

Hi, I need help planning out a build for a new computer on a $1500ish budget (Location: USA). The new comp would be used for gaming. I'd like to be able to play AAA titles if I wanted to (haven't had a rig good enough to even think about it), and I'd like it to last. Because of my local situation, I must use a wireless connection to access the interwebs. I don't need any other peripherals though. I know nothing about overclocking, and am not going to try to figure it out on this rig. If feasible (price-wise) I'd like an SSD for the boot disk/OS and more beefily-sized HD for the main storage. Also I need Windows 10. If someone could help me out on this that'd be great.

So, I am starting to make plans about computer components I want in my system, keep in mind this system may not be built until next year or maybe even two years from now. I would just like to see what I can come up with now and what others thing of it as I WILL NOT be buying this exact system. Don't be too hard on me since I am very new to this whole building thing AND to forums in general as I have never really dealt with either. Information: My budget is (I'd say) fairly big, the system (not including monitors, peripherals, external equipment) is about 3,000 USD. If you want I can put my current planned peripherals and planned monitors but I don't really see the point since that will more than likely change in the next year or so (more info on the amount and types of monitors and peripherals will be further down.) To start off this PC will be used for video editing (such as vlogs, gaming content and photos), gaming (AAA titles, and a few others such as CS:GO, Sid Meier's Civilization and TF2), and web browsing (YouTube videos, Twitch streams, Reddit, etc.) Rather than posting only a PCPart Picker link, to possibly make things easier for some I will list them here as well: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wh4h6h (updated as of 26/4/2016 23:00 MDT) CPU: Intel Core i7 6770K CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken x61 Mobo: Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO ATX RAM: G.Skill RipJaws V Series 32GB (2 sticks of 16GB, ik may be a little overkill) Storage: Samsung 850 Evo-Series 500GB GPU: Asus GeForce GTX 980Ti STRIX (x2 for 2-way SLI) Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe PSU: Corsair 850W 80+ Platinum Optical Drive: LG WH16NS40 Blu-Ray OS: Windows 10 (Home or Pro doesn't really matter to me) Fans: TBD I would want a "cockpit" monitor setup so three monitors at 2560x1440 27", running at 144Hz would be ideal. I will also want a DAC for better audio quality (or possibly a sound card), a gaming keyboard, a gaming mouse, a Blue Yeti mic, as well as some gaming headphones. Anymore info or more detail into anything about my intentions of this setup I will be sure to answer to the best of my abilities. Thanks!

Hey guys starting my first computer build! I installed all the basic things to boot into the bios (CPU, ram, mobo, psu, and CPU fan), but the computer isn't even turning on! I used my handy dandy psu testing tool and my psu is working fine (the psu fan turned on) but that's where it stops. The reason I think it's the mobo is cause my mobo is the MSI z170a Krait gaming, and it has a few debugging LEDs that would turn on if one of my other components isn't turning on, but those aren't lighting up at all. As well, my CPU fan isn't turning on either. Please help! Here's my build link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ywxNbv

I am looking for people who want to give a little help. I am going to purchase everything rather shortly and want to make sure everything I have chosen works together and will be able to be assembled. By being able to be assembled, I mean that everything has the clearance to fit. I just want to know overall that this will all go together. Any help is appreciated. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BBtHMp

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard is going to be my choice of motherboard for my new build. I will be using a 4690k core i5 and a two stick kit of 16gb of ram. It will also be accompanied by an ssd, a gtx 970, an optical drive, and a WD caviar blue. Will this motherboard last at least 1-2 years for me?

Hello everyone! I have done lots of research in making my first "Gaming Computer". I have been gaming for about 7 years, first with a desktop from maybe 2000 and the most recent being a Hp pavilion HPE from 2011 ( with a GT 520 ;_; ). Recently, I found that this computer is becoming outdated when I have games at low everything and a resolution of 1300*700 in windowed mode. I have a budget of around $1200, but I can go a little above. I have picked these parts for my computer CPU: i7 4790k CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Mobo: Asus Z97-A RAM: G.Skill AEGIS 16GB (2x 8GB) SSD: Sandisk 128GB HHD: seagate Barracuda 1TB GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 4 GB PSU: EVGA SuperNova 650w 80+ gold Fully modular http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GFMrQ7 I want to know if this could play AAA titles, and if so, how long? I want it to last my at least 3 years. If you have better builds please leave a link. Thanks a lot.

Hello, Thanks to everyone who help with my first post about building my first computer (http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/403168-first-build-looking-for-help/) . I have since more made changes to increase power and keep the budget of around $1250 USD. Here it is- CPU: i5 4690 (NO, I do NOT plan to overclock) CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO Mobo: Asus Z97-A Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) SSD: Sandisk Ultra plus 128GB HHD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB GPU: Zotac GTX 980 4GB Case: NZXT S340 Black PSU: EVGA SuperNova 650w 80+ Gold fully modular OS: Windows 8.1 http://pcpartpicker.com/p/R6pnBm I don't know why, but I just want a Nivida Video card, I guess I just like the looks and performance. Thanks again, please comment if you think this would better suit my needs, stated in the last post (link at the top). ty2828

Wow, it's really hard shopping for a graphics card! I have finally narrowed it down to 4 different cards that I think will fit my build (or so I think). I'm building my first PC and I need it primarily for animating in Maya and then maybe some digital painting in Photoshop. So far my build includes CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K Motherboard: ASRock Z97M Pro4 LGA 1150 SSD: SAMSUNG 850 EVO 250GB Hard Drive: A used 500GB and finally Case: a Rosewill Challenger ATX Mid tower. I want to run a dual monitor set up. I won't be gaming at all with this PC. I originally tried looking at a list of recommended graphics cards for Maya, but those cards were the cheapest at $500 which is waaaaaay out of my price range. I ended up finding one card that was on the recommended list, but the customer reviews say it's notorious for overheating (80 degrees C at idle), so I went and found some other cards. Would any of these four cards work better for Maya, run dual monitors smoothly, be relatively quiet, and not overheat and kill my computer? Nvidia Quadro 4000 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 Standard Height Workstation Video Card (The one that runs hot) XFX R9-280X-TDFD Radeon R9 280X 3GB MSI R7 370 GAMING 4G Radeon R7 370 4GB MSI GTX 960 GAMING 100ME GeForce GTX 960 2GB If you guys have any better recommendations, I would be very happy to hear them. Thanks for the help!

Hi! I have been following Linus channel for maybe a year now and have finally become brave enough to try and build my first rig! I will only use this computer for gaming and already have a 1080p Display. Please be so kind and give your advice on the parts I´ve choosen (eny bottlenecks or overkills, other brands etc.) I´m from Finland so the prices may seem strange from your point of view . My future build: Motherboard: MSI z87-G45-Gaming = 129,90€ (Overkill?) CPU: i5-4670K= 218€ (Overkill for gaming ?) GPU: Asus GTX 770 OC 2gb GDDR5 = 289€ (Is nvidia the way to go ?) Memory: Team Group 8bg Vulcan Series Dual-channel kit 2400 MHZ, CL 11 = 74,90€ (Never heard of the company but a very good price) Power Supply: Corsair 750W 80+ Bronze = 83,90€ (Enough for future 770 SLI ?) GPU cooler: Noctua NH-U14S = 69,90€ (Is there a better looking one with same performance?) Case: Define R4 Black Pearl Window ATX = 119€ Total cost: 984,60€ My plan is to sli 2 770 later on when one 770 doesn´t get the job done enymore. I´m used to playing on a gaming laptop so 30 fps with high settings doesn´t bother me but I would love to feel how beatifull 60 fps on ultra would be . Keep in mind that I aim for a computer with good price/performence that somewhat is futureproof. In Finland the 780 is 500€ and the 780TI is 700€ which I find too expencive for its performance. I will not game on more then one display which is a 1080p. Please give your opinion or advice! Thx for your Time! // Anders

Hey guys. I've been a fan of Linus for a long time and now that I have a job I can afford to build my own PC. I decided I'd come here and get some advice from people who have done this before. I'll be using this PC for streaming to Twitch, video editing (nothing extreme), playing games like Crysis 3, League of Legends, Battlefield, and Starcraft II among others. The budget for this build is about $2,000 Here's the parts list: Corsair Hydro Series Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler H100i Obsidian Series® 450D Mid-Tower PC Case Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM Optical Drive DRW-24B1ST (Black) Western Digital Caviar Green 3 TB SATA III 64 MB Cache Bare/OEM Desktop Hard Drive - WD30EZRX G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory F3-1600C9D-16GXM Creative Sound Blaster ZX SBX PCIE Gaming Sound Card with Audio Control Module SB1506 EVGA GeForce GTX780 SuperClocked 3GB GDDR5 384bit, Dual-Link DVI-I, DVI-D, HDMI,DP, SLI Ready Graphics Card (03G-P4-2783-KR) Graphics Cards 03G-P4-2783-KR Intel Core i7-4770K Quad-Core Desktop Processor 3.5 GHZ 8 MB Cache BX80646I74770K Intel 730 SERIES 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SSDSC2BP240G4R5 Corsair CX750 Builder Series ATX 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Power Supply ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO DDR3 2800 LGA 1150 Motherboard socket for 4th Generation Intel Core i7/ i5/ i3/ Pentium / Celeron Processors Any and all feedback is appreciated (as long as it's constructive).

Hello! I am thinking about making a computer. I am new to the "computer building" so be gentle and thank you for helping me out. [specs] GPU - Gtx 780 ti VS Gtx 880(up coming) CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor Power Supply - Corsair 750W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply Motherboard - MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard Ram - Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory x2 Fans - Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition 67.8 CFM 140mm Fan x2 + Corsair Air Series AF120 Quiet Edition (2-Pack) 39.9 CFM 120mm Fans x2 Case - Corsair 650D ATX Mid Tower Case [Questions] Any recomandation for the fan splitter that fits on my motherboard? Better power supply than the current one? Better motherboard than the current one? Better RAM than the current one? Better fan than the current one? LIQUID COOL VS AIR COOL CPU COLLER What Thermal Paste should I buy? What exactly is a thermal paste and is it helpful? How can i Use the thermal paste? I want to make my computer look good inside. I am trying to go for Red/Black theme. I want to see my RAM threw the case window but I'm not sure about air cool because of this (chunky air cooler cover up the RAM). The price range between good air cooler and liquid cooler is pretty simliar. I am thinking about Be Quiet Pro 3 air cooler VS Corsair H100i and the price range of them is pretty similar.
