So I have a windows server 2019 on a NUC and a windows 10 pro VM on hyper-v on the server. I domain joined the client computer to the domain and I have made 3x accounts on the AD and made 2x groups called economy and market. I made a folder named testfolder and in that folder I made economyfiles and marketfles. I then made permissions for market and economy to see the testfolder and only for economy to read the marketfile and market can read/write and vice versa. But when i try to share the testfolder and sign in with a client account I can only see the testfolder and not the files inside the testfolder. Any ideas? Both are on the same local network. I cant add a server aswell. When i go to All servers and go to manage and click on add server and type in the server name "test" and select that its says target comuter not accessible. I dont know why. I mean do you really need to have a windows server version to add as a server? If you are working in a company how is that going to work if you cant add client computers? And i can share the files inside the testfolder but they wont be inside the testfolder when i check the client account and the permissions i had set doesnt work. I can still write in a economy if the account is a member of market. PS: when i share files it says to select the server or computer and i only have the windows server but if the client VM is on the windows server should it matter? And if it matters how can I add the client VM so I can select it wen I share files in server manager?

I just upgraded to a TP-Link ax3000 wireless router in order to have it host an openVPN server for my network. It's been quite successful. I have the VPN connection working perfectly where I can log in to my printers and router via the VPN, I can even remote desktop into my network computers. However, I can only access the computers via their IP address. They do not show up in windows explorer. I know that this has something to do with the fact that the router places the VPN on a separate subnet, but I'm not sure if it's an issue with Windows or the routing. (I already had to spend countless hours figuring out that Windows Defender doesn't like connections from other subnets) I already created a blanket policy to allow connections from the VPN's subnet, this enables me to access my smb shares by entering the host's IP address but if I try and use the host name I get nowhere. all computers involved are running Windows 10 Pro.

Let me start by saying I'm no Mac guy and know little about OS X, However I was given an old mid 2010 Mac Mini to mess around with running OS X 10.13.6 and having an issue with getting into my Media "server". I have a few computers in the house with sharing enabled and the ones with password logins work just as you would expect. But the one I use to store my media files doesn't have any passwords set and none of the options I use work, Just giving me a failed to connect error. I have tried using "guest" as well as the windows admin account name and both blank or random password (sometimes works on Linux/Android systems). Are there other methods I'm missing?

My home network consists of two routers at two ends of the house connected via an ethernet cable. I usually have my PC(wired) and laptop(wireless) connected to the router at my end, while on the other end my dad has his PC(wired) connected. Internet works totally fine. But I'm having trouble sharing files between my PC and his. my laptop can my PC's shared files no problem. But his PC can't. I've tried taking my laptop over to his end of the house, connecting to the wifi of that router, and my laptop loses access to the shared files as well. It simply can't find/connect to my PC's IP. Both switches and 3 computers mentioned do have static IP's so that's that. Can someone help me understand why this isn't working, and maybe how I could share files easily across these computers?

I'm attempting to file share from my main windows 10 computer to my windows 10 laptop. The laptop cannot see the main computer under networking. However, the laptop CAN see and access my wife's windows 7 computer just fine. Also the main computer can see all of the other computers on the network just fine and my roomate's windows 10 desktop can see my main computer and access it just fine as well. I've tried changing some firewall settings on the router and on both the laptop and the main computer and it still doesn't show up. Also the main computer can't see the laptop either. i know it has to do with the wifi since ive had many similar issues as this with other devices trying to connect together (such as system link with xbox or remote play with ps4). Plus for some reason I can see the main computer's "Media Device" under "Network" which opens windows media player but shows no media. Any help you guys can provide would be great.

Is there anyone out there having issues with the latest windows 10 update and sharing files over their home network? I use my xbox one as my main entertainment system in the house and often play music or videos that are stored on my personal rig via the Movies and TV application. Up until about a week ago when for some reason the app cannot seem to see any of my video files or folders. My music library is still available and visible. I've tried the VLC application as well to no avail. Any information or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Long story short, I'm a high school intern who became the IT guy at a local engineering firm and I have some questions.... Prior to my being there, the company of about 15 employees with about 20 workstations was using an 8 year old, middle-of-the-road, Windows 7, pre-built computer, as the source of a file share over the local network to store and collaborate on primarily AutoCAD files, PDFs, and Excel spreadsheets. That was painfully slow and eventually crashed, losing a bunch of data. So, through my own research, I had them buy a Dell PowereEdge T330 tower server running Windows Server 2016 Standard Edition. I also upgraded the switch allowing for an ideal Gig LAN speed. This whole system is running much better than before, with me working out any kinks along the way. Now, I am looking to find a way to connect to the network from a remote location allowing for secure file access while travelling and Remote Desktop Connections through something like VPN or another alternative that I'm not aware of. Currently, we've got a Workgroup setup as most computers are running Windows 10 Home and a domain isn't an option at this point. What are your opinions on the direction I should go with this? Is a VPN the best option? What would it take to set up a VPN server through Windows Server 2016 to avoid paying for a 3rd party VPN? Any other input? Thanks in advance!

I have a simple Ubuntu machine with some storage in it (just test drives right now) and samba for file share. I am getting horrid speeds, 5mb/s with cat5e and 15 mb/s with cat5 which makes no sense to me. I posted my smb.conf which appears to be fine, father used the same one (after I gave it to him) so should be fine. Seems like it might be a cable issue. Before I go out and buy a new cable (none laying around long enough) what are some things I can try? Never had this issue before. It is Full-Duplex and 1000mb/s so both there are fine. At the production studio I recently started to work we are trying to repurpose a 2009 Mac Pro Tower to be a simple file server for us. We added a compatible Fiber Channel Card (an Apple brand one, no less) and it is recognized in the system perfectly, as are the ones in the other 2010 Mac Pro Towers we use as editing Bays. We have OS X Server El Capitan installed onto the server and all up to date. I can start XSAN on the Server but it fails to initialize with Error Code 13. I have looked and cannot find this error code in reference to Server/XSAN. After this error though, it shows that XSAN has been configured an is running fine. It then allows me to add a volume to the XSAN but at the same time it does not. It wants me to add a LUN to the list but I do not have any nor does it allow me to create one. Documentation on this is sparse in my research. I am looking to Just share the internal drive(s) on the machine over fiber as Ethernet is far too slow for our purposes. We plan on having a more robust solution in the future using these same fiber cards but for now we don't have a large NAS or something similar. Hoping some of you guys have some advice or help for me on this front. Apple stuff always seems to be so difficult when it comes to self configuration with little documentation to find. Thank you! We are losing our minds over here....

I'm planning on building a File Server/NAS for myself and some friends and my family to use to keep all of our random files that we don't won't taking up space on our personal systems or files that we would like to share. I've never really thought about what would need to go in so I did a little research on and watched some video on what I might would need in the build but I'm still unsure if I'm even choosing the right parts. I'm also unsure if it will need a video card, if it does that shouldn't be a problem since I'm planning to upgrade my personal system video card as well so I can just use the one that's in my current one (GTX 760). There is a chance I might end up hosting a minecraft server or some other random server for games off of it as well so I don't really know if 16GB will be enough (I know it is for minecraft) for some games that I would want to host a server for. Can anyone help me makes this build better? Possibly cheaper? I do really want the 16TB of storage considering lots of movies and videos will be kept on this system.
