I just built a pretty expensive PC and now I'm all out of money. I don't have a monitor yet. Ideally, I would like to buy a 2560x1440 monitor, but that will probably leave me with so little money I won't be able to eat anything but cup ramen for the next two hundred years. I could buy a 1920x1080 monitor, though, and use OGSSAA. I actually downsampled 2560x1440 on my parent's TV (which is 1080p) when I went over to their house earlier today (with my rig) and played some World of Warcraft (since I don't have a display at my house), and it looked great. I have a GTX 1070. Not the best thing in the world, I know, but it can handle 1440p gaming pretty well. What do you guys think I should do? Get a good/decent 1920x1080 monitor or starve myself and buy a 2560x1440 one?

In short: I wanna kill two birds with one stone, buy a cost/effective 27" 144hz 1080p monitor, downsample it to 2560x1440 (or higher) to increase the size of my workspace while working in After Effects etc and, on the flip side, have those sweet 144hz for occasional gaming at 1080p. Will 2560x1440 work OK while in Windows? In detail: I've got a MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G and I'm running 2560x1440 on a crappy 24" Samsung just fine, along with an LCD TV as the secondary monitor, also 2560x1440. Now I'm looking to buy the Asus 27" VG278Q (1980x1080, 144hz) monitor, with the aim of achieving two things: 1. Set the 2560x1440p resolution to increase the size of my workspace. Is there any reason to worry that a 27" 1080p 144hz monitor will have problems with downnsampling while working in Windows (After Effects, Photoshop etc). Namely, I don't want to buy the monitor and then not be able to go higher than 1080p . Will the Asus VG278Q run fine @ 2560x1440 in Windows/After Effects/Photoshop etc? NOTE: I don't care about the refresh rate while working, naturally. 2. For occasional gaming I wanna be able to play on a 144hz monitor, 1080p is just fine. Pretty straightforward. Hey! So I have experienced different ways to make my 1080p monitor look better in games, and I stumbled upon AMD's Virtual Super Resolution (VSR), similar to Nvidia's DSR, which is basically downsampling. Now, I enabled it and set my resolution to 4K in games, but I don't see a big difference, in fact, I don't even think I can really see it. So I set my resolution back to 1080p, and instead turned the resolution scale slider to 200%, thus also rendering at 4k, and the difference is MASSIVE. But I am also left to wander, why isn't downsampling giving similar results?

I have a 1080p60Hz monitor with 1660ti. I wanted to see how OGSSAA works so I tried. (My intention was to record at 1440p downscaled to 1080p and stretch it back in post) And it's kinda not sharp, Ik it'll not look like a 1440p monitor but it would at least look same as 1080p one or better. I also did tried overclocking, few weeks back, set the monitor to 75Hz but it's the same, not sharp, monitor and other stuff are fine, but it's not sharp, I even played for few hrs back then. It still works perfectly now. I have a DVI monitor tho, so there is a dvi-hdmi converter, my monitor works why replace it. It's been working since 2014. It's fine. I think the Converter is the main issue. *shrug* Thanks!

Hey Guys, So I set my 1080p monitor resolution to 4K scaled it to 200% and applied no DSR smoothness in the Nvidia control panel. This resulted in a sharper image because 200% scaling on 4k is exactly the same size as 1080p with 100% scaling, hence 1 or 2 (I'm not completely sure) pixel take up the space of the 4 pixels of native 4k (4 pixels instead of 1/2). However, by default, it's set to 150% scaling which would mean 3 pixels or so instead of one. That's why its blurry on default. In conclusion, setting a 1080p monitor to 4k with 2x scaling and no smoothing sounds like something everyone should do (if windows scaling would be perfect but that's another topic), HOWEVER, the cursor becomes fckn enormous. I tried changing it to a smaller custom one but didn't find any good ones. [sorry for the potato quality images. Screenshoting does not capture the cursor lol]

So i just downsampled my resolution for my second screen (45" TV) from 1920x1080 to 2560x1080 and everything is perfect except the text is quite blurry and difficult to read..i've been looking all night for a fix with no luck so figured i would ask here. My main monitor is 27" 1920x1080 (No DS) GPU is Nvidia GTX 760 (old i know) Anyone know how i can make the writing clear and crisp in 2560x1440? i tried 55/50/45 refresh rates which made no difference. So I have been playing with this OG supersampling on my 60" LG Plasma TV 1920x1080 and I have to say, its awwwwwwwwwesome!!! The highest resolution I can get on my TV is 3200x1800. Battlefield 3 and 4 looked amazing even with anti aliasing turned right off! It also seemed to me like gameplay was smoother. I always get 60fps on ultra, but use to get some stutters and jitters sometimes. Now it feels really smooth, could be in my head though, lol. The only thing I didnt like is that all the words on screen and radar and stuff are so tiny I cant read or see anything. It also makes my desktop look like crap , shortcuts are all so small and words look fuzzy or something. So I pretty much keep it at 1920x1080 and when gaming i turn it to 3200x1800. So does anyone know how I can make things like the words and radar bigger? Hopefully this can be fixed as after seeing games in 3200x1800 I dont even want to play at 1920x1080 anymore. Greetings. I'm in a pinch here. Yesterday I upgraded to Windows 10 and was testing all my software, settings etc. Today I discovered that I'm unable to add custom resolutions for downsampling purposes. Nvidia user. Installed Win10 64-bit 353.62 drivers. Native resolution is 1920x1080p/60Hz. Here are the steps. Screenshots: http://i.imgur.com/7v95lER.png Adjust desktop size and position > I checked "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs" Set perform scaling on GPU Change Resolution > Customize > Enable Resolution not exposed by the display > Create Custom Resolution... > Changed "Vertical lines" to "1440" > Timing on Auto by default Monitor switches to 1920x1440 > I select "Yes" to save (see Attempt 1) Resolution is shown in Windows' "Display Settings" yet it's not saved in "Costumize" and isn't shown in Nvidia's "Change Resolution". Games do not recognize the resolution either. If I apply a different resolution the 1440p in "Display Settings" is no longer available. Upon repeating the steps I usually get an error saying that "1920x1440 is not supported" (see Attempt 2). The resolution doesn't change at all. As a side effect my native resolution moves to "Custom" (see Result of 2). By the looks of it this whole business is buggy and there's nothing I can do about it. What I tried: Restarting Uninstalling video driver and doing a clean driver install I'd like to know if this is a problem that can be reproduced or it's just me. DSR works, but it's not the perfect solution.

Hey everyone, so four questions really 1) Will downsampling work with gsync enabled? Ive heard theres problems going over 60hz, and as i haven't recieved my gsync monitor just yet i'm not sure how it works, as in if it will try to go over 60hz when enabled and when framerates allow it to which will cause a problem on the downsampling. 2) Is there a way to get over 60hz? My monitor is the ROG Swift 144hz one, and on older games which are for the most part the ones i want to downsample (to make them look better using the massive performance overhead my computer has for older games) i'm fairly confident i can get above 60fps even while downsampling and i want to take advantage of the monitor's full power wherever possible. 3) How far can this monitor with a GTX 980 sli be downsampled from? For example, if i was to run mirrors edge, could i potentially downsample from anything above 4k or is 4k the limit? (Assuming i can't go over 60hz, it feels like it makes sense to push it absolutely as hard as possible to reach a place where it would be closer to 60 fps anyway, i'd downsample from 8k if i could lol) finally, and this is a bit of a subjective one - whereas i don't believe i have to downsample newer games when i can max them at 1440p and get very high FPS and just wont have to worry, and some games make the decision for me (checking benchmarks, it appears assassins creed black flag is capped at 60 fps, so if i wanted to play that game i'd downsample anyway since 144hz is wasted on a terrible frame rate cap) the question is: 4 - for optimal experience, is a higher framerate, or higher visual fidelity through downsampling superior, or is it highly dependant on the game (e.g. a first person shooter will certainly benefit from higher FPS i assume) I'm quite new to the whole downsampling thing, quite new to having a nice setup for once, so (praise gaben) it'll be the first time in quite a few years on my PC that i can choose options rather than everything on lowest and scraping along at frame rates that would make ubisoft impressed with how cinematic my old rig was. So that means basicallly i have no experience with any of this area haha. Thanks a lot everyone

Hello guys, i was wondering could someone shed some light on this issue. Im primarily interested which one of these two give a better image quality. I have used both very recently both trying to run at 3840x2160, and the only thing i could notice as different is that somehow DSR is more demanding the downsampling, when in fact they should be the same thing if you just add custom resolution in Nvidia control panel? Instructions: You only need to extract the packaged .exe and modify the nvamsi.inf file to work with your card (or use this already modded .inf file for Desktop GPU's here, here, here, here and here) then, proceed to install. Note: Disable driver signature enforcement if you're on Win8/Win8.1 Instructions for disabling diver signature enforcement: 1) Download these drivers (They already include the modded inf file with the 700 and 600 series) - Driver download link 2) Extract the exe to a folder 3) Go into Display.Driver folder 4)Double click nv_disp.cat 5)Click view signature 6)Click view certificate 7)Click install certificate 8)Check local machine then hit next 9)Check "place all certificates in the following store" then click browse 10)Click Trusted Root Certification Authorities and then click OK. 11) Finish it and you should be able to install perfectly fine or For Win8/8.1 just open an elevated command prompt and type: bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS and hit enter, then bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON and hit enter. Restart computer, install, reboot. Can anyone tell me please how to downsample? Cuz i was trying to but i get an error. Im using Gigabyte r9 270x and windows 8.1 (and sorry for my english i know its not perfect)

Hello everybody, i'm new in this forum and i got something to ask in my mind. In the past, i saw Linus's video about Downsampling (the one with Slick explaining how to configure your GPU to render at higher resolution), and i think the other video i saw was the ultimate linus media group video tour. In the linus ultimate media group tour i heard him saying about recording video at 4k then downsampling it to 1080p which resulted in increase sharpness in the review videos. Now I'm just wondering about the downsampling stuff. I wonder if i have a 4k wallpaper, then i apply it to a 1080p monitor, is it called downsampling ? And do we also benefits in the increase sharpness just like the one in linus video? Hope to see replies from the forum so i could have better knowledge about the "downsampling stuff".
