I have a Dell G7 7588 that I bought in 2018. The specs are i7 8750H, GTX 1050ti, 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, and 1TB HDD. I have heard that my laptop is using hybrid power (it's using the AC adapter and the battery simultaneously) because the AC adapter that I got in the box (130W) is not enough to power all the components in it (when I'm doing heavy task like playing video games). Because of that, after 3 years of using this laptop, my battery is currently in a really bad condition. My laptop can only turn on in 15 minutes before it ran out of battery. And also when I'm playing video games (like Apex Legends), my laptop will run out of battery even if it's plugged in, so the laptop will go to sleep mode in the middle of the game. So my question is: how much power does it actually need to power my laptop? Because I was wondering to buy an AC adapter that has higher power output. Does 150W enough? or should I get the 180W?

Just to give some context, my laptop battery died so I had to run the laptop directly on AC. After removing the battery, I noticed that my laptop don't usually heat as much as it used to (before, its max temp is around 80-90°C but now its around 70 °C). I've also notice that it removing the battery reduced my gaming performance, I figure that maybe I need to adjust some settings in my laptop I tried the following: - Clean windows install - Set the power plan to high performance - Use throttlestop to increase power limit to my laptop Now, I noticed that when I used Throttlestop, the Max TDP is around 25W only, does this have anything to do with the way my laptop performs? Here are the settings I used in Throttlestop, as well as my log file when I try to run a few games It would take a while for me to replace the battery, so any help would be gladly appreciated Edit 1**: I also notice that the max frequency my cpu produces is 2.8 ghz even though its max turbo is at 4 ghz. Also, the frequency drops from 2.8ghz to 800 mhz for a while then goes back right up again 2022-07-05.txt

I own a dell g7 7588 with i7 8750h and gtx 1060 max q . A lot of people are facing problem with this laptop , some regarding thermal throttling other regarding power limit throttling . For thermal throttling you might need to roll back or rest windows if your frequency drops to 800 mhz . Then use throttlestop to reduce max frequency to 2.5 ghz . you might be able to play games smoothly . now the real problem is power limit throttling . here i noticed while gaming with throttlstop off , my fps dropped and it showed power limit throttling in intel xtu ,so i downloaded hwinfo and monitored both gpu and cpu tdp and then i actually found the real problem with this laptop . IT isn't thermal throttling but the power distribution is equal and quite less then it should be , Both cpu and gpu ran at 30-32 tdp while the rated or required tdp for gpu is 70 tdp and for cpu it is 45 tdp . then i again turned back to throttlestop with 2.5 ghz to check why it ran games so stable . This was because cpu TDP didnt go beyond 20 giving more power to gpu which ran at 60-70 watts . So my question is how to solve this power problem.

Hello all, I have had my current laptop for almost a year. I have undervolted the CPU and OC the Nividia GPU. This was done quite a while ago and I periodically reapply the UV when ever my laptop shuts down in an unintended way (usually an app crashes, the UV is relatively stable, curse Fallout 4). However, I have noticed that my laptop is getting much hotter, especially in the CPU. I see a lot of people talking about not needing to reapply thermal paste, but usually this is about a desktop rig and not a portable one which gets hotter then the stereotypical laptop. I already purchased thermal compound off of amazon, which was Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. I am most definitely gonna replace it for the experience of doing a full teardown of my laptop. I was just wondering if it was redundant to replace thermal paste in a laptop. I believe due to higher heat out puts that it is not, for I have seen others on YouTube doing it as well. However I will not use liquid metal. I know its relatively safe, but the risk is too high. Just wondering if anyone has some insight. Thanks and have a good day/night

Since I got my Dell G7 and my this monitor, I haven't been able to upscale the monitor's refresh rate to 144Hz (the one it's advertised with it).

okay so i have a question regarding my laptop, its a dell g7 7588 every time I'm running a game I'm power throttling and thermal throttling occasionally it impacts performance. Does anyone here know how i can fix this issue. I have tried under-volting my cpu, using ITU, Throttlestop, under-volting my gpu, using HWINFO to manually increase my fan speed. I honestly dont know what to do and if anyone here can help me that would be great

Hi, I have been trying to make up my mind on getting One of these laptops. But could not decide which is more worth for me and my work. The 2 laptops I am looking at is Dell G7 7590, and the Alienware M15. I really like the M15.But even the lowest spec in M15..It crosses my budget a little bit. And when I found out about G7 it seems to have good specs and is bit cheaper than than M15. So I was wondering about how would they seem to compare in their performance. And Alienware are usually built like a Tank. How about G7? Some say The build quality is bad in G7. G7 9th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-9750H NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2070 8GB GDDR6 with Max-Q Design 16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 2666MHz 512GB Solid State Drive (Boot) + 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive (Storage) 144Hz refresh rate Alienware M15 9th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-9750H NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2060 6GB GDDR6 (OC Ready) 8GB, 1x8GB, DDR4 2666MHz 512GB PCIe M.2 SSD + (No hard Disk) 240Hz display + Tobii Eyetracking I am not good with computer specs.. so, is the G7 laptop good for CPU and Graphics intensive applications like Rendering,Editing videos and Images(especially with color accuracy. Because previous G7 reviews showed low Adobe RGB and sRGB values. But this one has a little higher values) and some occasional gaming?? I had and still rarely use an old Alienware. So I am used to the bulkiness of the laptop.Still do sometimes even carry the Relic. So, any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Hello ya'll. So I have been having an issue with MSI afterburner. When I first downloaded the software it worked fine. But now when I go to use the software, I don't see my base and boost clocks. Now I have used Intel's Extreme Tuning Utility to undervolt and overclock my UHD intel graphics 630 for poops and giggles but never fiddled with my GTX 1060 max q because intel XTU doesn't pick that up. Now the reason I want to overclock my max q is to squeeze out some more performance out of my card. its definitely able to handle any game on the market, but I'm really getting into computer hardware and I'm not afraid to fiddle with some systems. I was wondering if NIVIDA Optimus is the issue for not detecting my base and boost clocks in MSI AB. Or maybe it was XTU? I've tried everything I know including uninstalling MSI AB and reinstalling(the boost and base clocks come up for half a second and then disappear). I would appreciate some in sight. Thank you.

A few months ago I purchased a Dell G7. It is a beautiful laptop and great performance. But I only have 256 GB of storage on my SSD and I only installed about 7 games and was left with about 25%f my drive space left. And with the nature of SSDs you don't want to completely fill your SSDs because it will lower the life time of the drive. Now my Laptop has a space for a SATA HDD. I was wondering if since the interface is the same, could I put a SATA SSD into where the HDD would be? I know that SSDs are a more of a "luxury" but in reality that's ways things are moving. Just wondering if anybody knows if it is possible. Thank you. PS: I am new to this site so instruct me on where to go for these type of topics.

I bought a Dell g7 15 7590 from curry's about 3 months ago and it's been fine but about 2 or so weeks ago it started locking up randomly sometimes when doing nothing and sometimes playing games. Since it's pretty much brand new i decided to reset Windows cause I couldn't figure out what was going wrong. Once it reset I went to download all my games again and in about 24 hours I've had this error happen 3 more times. It's still on warranty with currys so if I can't fix it I'll send it to them but I'd like to give it a shot first, any help would be much appreciated.

I have a Dell G7 laptop . It comes with a GTX 1060 max-Q, i7-8750H along with 8 gigs of RAM and a 256GB SSD. For the past week or so, while gaming my FPS Drops from around 120-30 , stays at 30 FPS for around 15 secs and then goes back to 120 FPS. Once this starts happening , it drops every 3 minutes or so. I play Rainbow six Siege and Fortnite and the same problem occurs in both the games. I have tried uninstalling previous Windows updates but that didn't change anything. I undervolted my laptop to -90mv and there average temperature reduced by around 6° when I ran stress tests on AIDA64. I also increased the Turbo boost power max from 45W to 55W but the problem is yet to be solved. Every time the frames drop the cpu usage drops from 3.91 GHz to around 800 Mhz. CPU Usage during the drop CPU usage when working normally Current Intel XTU Profile Any help would be appriciated.

Hi, I recently purchased a Dell G7 15 laptop with a GTX 1060 Max Q and I7-8750H. I knew it was going to have throttling issues, but I assumed they would be easily remedied. I did the standard undervolting procedure as stated in another thread, but am still not achieving the results I am looking for. I am not using a cooling pad, though if this issues doesn't or cannot be resolve I may resort to getting one. Below is a picture of my settings in Intel XTU. I've gotten a max cinebench score of 1175 with an average a little under 950. While gaming, I average 3-3.1GHz at 60-65C. I wouldn't mind a slightly higher clocks if I have to sacrifice temp and noise. The main issue I am having with Cinebench is Ill get halfway or a third of the way through a bench and then the temperature finally hits 88C, making the CPU throttle and fans FINALLY kick on to max. I would like to find a way to make them start at max instead of only doing it when throttling down. Thanks for your time.

So I recently purchased a Dell g7 with a gtx 1060 max q and an i7 8750h. As I began playing gta v, I noticed that when I overclocked the gpu I would thermal throttle both the cpu and the gpu. The cpu would throttle to between 3.6 and 3.8Ghz and the gpu would throttle down to 1607Mhz. I remembered that I had heard something about messing with voltages and turbo boost times/powers to optimize mobile cpus. I had tried this on an i5 7200u and it was totally pointless. I decided to give it a shot anyways, and wow. Running just cinebench by itself, I was initially disappointed by my 100mv under volt since there were no thermal differences. However, clock speeds stayed near 3.9Ghz for the entirety of the run. I noticed that the cpu was power throttling still so I decided to under volt it by 150mv. That run I stayed at 3.9Ghz for the entire time (if i ran consecutive runs it would power throttle). So I set the turbo boost power max to 75w and the turbo boost short power max to 80w. No throttling this time and temps were still reasonable. The most remarkable thing though was the performance gain. I went from a multi threaded score of 919cb to a whopping 1205cb only by under volting and adjusting turbo boost power limits. That's a 31% performance improvement for giving the cpu less power. Awesome. I'm going to keep messing around with the voltage and see how low I can get it! Update: at -175mw and 55w max turbo I was able to get 0 throttling with it remaining at a steady 3.914Ghz during GTA v gameplay. The temps went down from 99 to the mid to high 70s - low 80s. The GPU now is up to 1776mhz from 1607mhz and occasionally boosts to 1860mhz?. Just thought I'd share that with you guys and let me know if anybody else has any experience with optimizations giving you huge performance gains in either raw power or temperatures. Also idk why it thinks I have windows 8... It tried I guess... Could a mod move this to the cpu thread. I forgot to place it in there initially because I'm dumb...

Greetings, I am looking for gaming laptop and found those, but now I cannot decide which one to pick. I would love to hear your pros and cons on those guys. DELL 7577 - i7 7700HQ, 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM ASUS ROG STRIX GL503VM - i7 7700HQ, 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM + 120hz panel or not? DELL G5/G7 - i7 8750H, 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM I was thinking about the G5 or G7 is it good? and could someone tell me what differences there are, is it just design? How are temps on GL503VM compared to the G5 or G7? Feel free to suggest another laptops -price around 1500 dollars -1 inch thin +- -good gaming power -some reasonable tempretures -Coffee or Kaby Lake -SSD Thanks for help.
