Portable "laptop" like pc power supply help
Logicjunkie520 posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Budget (including currency): 1500 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: VR and General office work and vehicle diag Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2Brz6D So this is the current build sheet that is work i progress but what im aiming for is a system that is portable like a laptop but is the power and repair/upgrade ability of desktops I'm a Fleet maintenance mechanic during the day so need to use good speced systems to do programing and diag of computers as well as my office work so i tend to have multiple sheets and pages open at once, but at night i tend to travel to like coffee houses or friends places to game and play vr so i want just one system when im out. at home i have a high power pc so im not needing a fully baller system here My current plan is based off a Fractal Ridge case (not to big but not also so small im gona super limited in cooling and hardware space) im gona be custom mounting a small monitor to the side of the case and have a small 12v usbC board mounted in the case to power aswell small display cable routed as seamless as posible for this "built in" monitor For traveling i plan on getting something like a pelican case to carry it around and protecting it and i will be custom making a support bracket to keep the gpu from snapping My main hold up right now is power I Want to be able to run the system at times in a portable self contained system so I will have custom made battery pack externally this is were my dilemma is what path to choose from as i have to routes i can go Standard power supply and have a power inverter built in to my battery supply. This has the down side of efficiency and space because i have to convert my DC powerpack to 120AC in a pure sinewave in to the psu and have that go back to DC my other option is i can get DC power supply the i can put DC directly in and have that just adjust the voltages for the PC so when i run off battery i can just have the pack directly in and when i want to be on Home power just use a Power brick just like laptops. This is the route i want to take but I dont know were or what supply's work as i would build it in the Case and have a connector on the outside just like the Original connector Voltage input isnt a big issue as the Battery will be custom built with LioN cells so i can just build it to whatever voltage needed I need to make sure the voltage is something that is offered in power bricks the Only plugs off this "PSU" for the current Build is 1x 24pin ATX, 1x 8pin EPS, 1x 6+2 Pcie connector (i would like 2 for future proofing but 1 is fine), And depending on input voltage Just a 12 supply for the internal monitor supply as that uses usbC for power Because every psu i'v found so far are non modular i would have to pull it apart to trim the harnnes of unused circuits and also shorten the cables so they fit well in the case however, im thinking at worst i can get separate boards for each and 3D print a carrier box to fit in the SFX psu slot of the case Going this route i would be able to build my battery supply inside the carrying case or at worst be able to have a small battery in case for smaller work and be able to attach a expansion battery What do you guys think Im so close to making this project a reality but this supply issue is my downfall- 2 replies

Hi all I hope you had a nice day today, I wanted to ask your opinion on an upgrade that I was considering recently. As for a little background, I had this build (link) for over a year and it's been a pretty decent experience with it. As you might recall, however, by the time I built this PC, the GPU prices were EXTREMELY high and therefore I went with a 3060, which costed me about 380-400€. But, since the new RTX40 series made their place in the market, I am wondering how effective it'd be for me to upgrade my RTX3060 which honestly is not used that much anyway... I'm definitely going to sell my GPU if I decide to upgrade, which I'm thinking I can sell it for about 250-300€ range, so that gives me an additional boost to afford maybe something like the RTX4060? And lastly, I'd be doing this change most likely after Christmas, but before that I wanted to hear your ideas about the upgrade, as this is my first ever build. Thank you very much!

Sup, I am plannin on gettin a new PC which I will build on my own, will buy parts from cheapest places I can find in my country [shipping too expensive for international orders]. SO my problem is I am planning ot get 32GB RAM. I have ATX mobo with 4xDIMM slots so I can either go with 2x16 or 4x8gig. I dont think I will need more than 32 GB anyways [97% sure wont need more]. So which kit should I use 1x16 is 33$, 2x8 is 37$. T-force Delta RGB DDR4 3600MHz. I want to fill up all 4 ram slots cas it look cool but I want to know if it affects negatively or positively, if negatively I may go with 2x16. Thanks! my plan [not 100% sure] - i7 12700K - B760 DS3H AX DDR4 - Teamforce Delta DDR4 3600MHz kit [winner here] - ID Cooling frostflow 240mm [non rgb, I will make it stand sideways, check the case, I dont like too much rgb] - mp33 Pro 1TB nvme - Asrock 3080 or PNY 3080Ti [both used] [ - Xigmatek Overtake Supertower PC [its super sus cheap but will buy it cas why not, 19$] - Cougar Gex 750W 80+ Gold, Tier B psu cannot order from ebay/amazon etc.

I am torn between these two coolers. The LT720 is cheaper and preforms marginally better, while the H150i looks better and has more ability to control within iCue, which I already use. My biggest concern is that I have heard the H150i's pump is quite loud, at the same time, the LT720 is also not a quiet AIO, especially since it does not have a pwm pump. I saw that the LY720 is "A tier" onm the cooling tier list, but the H150i Elite RGB is not listed. The LCD and Cappellix are but that have different fans. Does it really matter which one I choose here, cause I feel like I'm going in circles with myself trying to decide. One thing to note is that I will be putting this in the front of my case so any and all airflow will be through the rad.

Budget (including currency): $2000 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: RDR2, Valorant, Blender, Adobe Suite, SolidWorks Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 13700k with b760: I know the b760 cannot overclock, I only want the higher stock clock speeds. Corsair parts: I know the Corsair AIO is not the best value 360mm AIO nor the quietest, but I like its aesthetics. With the other corsair components, since I'm using micro center, there are just a good deal as anything else. That being said, is using all these corsair parts going to be a problem. I know all of them integrate with iCue, but what I don't want to have half my computer preform worse because iCue is on the fritz or not open. If anyone has experience with any of these programs, could you share your experiences with iCue? Ok, so this is the rundown. A while back I was working on a build and the comments said it might be the power supply that wasn't working. Now that I have a new one same result. Nothing powers on. I don't know if the motherboard is dead or the CPU got damaged idk. But the only time the motherboard did work was when I turned it on once and for a split second, the fans worked. Idk if that helps to help find the answer. Im about to go off to college soon and I really need this custom build fixed. Below is the build I bought(including the new power supply I changed) https://pcpartpicker.com/user/DannyV./saved/3wpMFT

During one of my amazon wondering sessions i came across this video card and have heard almost nothing about it. ASUS TUF Gaming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 OC Edition Graphics Card- PCIe 4.0, 24GB GDDR6X. Is it possible to see any review of this and also perhaps also real world benchmarking to see how well it would hold up vs other cards on the market? Hey all LTT members, hope you are doing well and problem free. I've been helping my friend build his first gaming pc using these specs below (specs). Here is the System Summary Of all my PC builds so far I have never had such an easy to build PC be so stubborn, so I'll try and be brief. After building the PC in a couple hours we got legit windows installed over internet with all updates as well as the system drivers (via Armory for Mobo and geforce experience for GPU). Everything seemed good at first but for some reason we were getting forced restarts showing a fatal processor core error in event system only a couple minutes into gameplay. I looked into the bios and turned off any overclocking/xmp profile I found, enabled efficiency mode, disabled PBO, turned memory speed down to 3600mhz, and just generally made sure all devices were detected properly. (I never intended to do any overclocking but this motherboard appeared to have some on by default) After doing that I was able to play Vermintide 2 and Battlefield V on it basically all day long with no restarts or crashes on full graphics at 1080p. (I Left Vermintide going over night with bots and woke up to it still running also). I even ran cinebench on all cpus cores a few times without issue. So thinking its all solved, I pass it off to my friend who takes it home and hooks up his 1440p display. For some reason when he plays Dead by Daylight or Vermintide 2 it force restarts after a few mins or a few hours when its on its lowest settings. He's been trying to play his games on lower settings which lets him play a lot longer but still force restarts. I'm not sure how it could be so stable at my house but when he takes it over it has been crashing for him, the only difference that I know of is his 1440p monitor so I will try and test on my 4k TV when its back at my house. We are kinda at a loss at this point so hoping some extra eyes on this could glean more info or maybe help find a solution. Maybe there is just something about the compatibility of these parts or something else I overlooked. Been keeping an eye on hardware temps but haven't seen anything particularly high, the one odd component is that used 980Ti but I tested known working cards that I had with the same results. I will try and get some screen shots of the system errors we saw but the PC is currently at his place so I need to remote in to get them. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I apprecaite any help you are able to give.

Hey, I have experience building PCs, and I have worked with them for a few years now. I am in need of replacing both of my main workstations/gaming machines. I have had in mind and idea of what I want for each machine and would like to get opinions, ideas, possible part lists, whatever comes to mind. Build 1 (Main Priority, Full Gaming PC) Budget (including currency): $3000 - 5000 US Dollars. Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Play any game 60FPS+ at Min 1440p Video Editing Unity Engine Unreal Engine Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): No existing parts for this new build as this is supposed to be a replacement for a computer 7+ years old. Ideally to buy ASAP Ideal Resolution 1440p Ideal Refresh Rate 60hz + MUST BE SMALL (Constantly moving around the USA in the last few years and relocating to different cities, the idea would be to have a small tower that I can easily put in my car and move from City to City) I have look into the following prebuilt from Origin PC as my base idea of something I would want: https://www.originpc.com/gaming/desktops/chronos-v2/ This built is merely intended for gaming purposes as well as being used for occasionally work on Unity and Unreal engine making video games. It also needs to be capable of smooth video editing. Build 2 (Less Priority) Budget (including currency): $3000 - $5000 US Dollars. Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Play any game 60FPS+ at Min 1440p Unity Engine Unreal Engine Microsoft Visual Studio VS Code Rider (https://www.jetbrains.com/rider/) Streaming Video Games (ideally being able to stream any games without issues) Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): From my current build the only piece of hardware that I am planning on keeping is my Game Capture 4k60 Pro from El Gato https://www.elgato.com/en/game-capture-4k60-pro No other existing parts for this new build as this is supposed to be a replacement for a computer 5+ years old. (This computer has been refurbished by me so it has many technical issues and quirks that I would like have addressed with a new build) Ideally to buy ASAP Ideal Resolution 1440p Ideal Refresh Rate 60hz + MUST BE SMALL (Constantly moving around the USA in the last few years and relocating to different cities, the idea would be to have a small tower that I can easily put in my car and move from City to City) HOWEVER, since I am planning on keeping my Game Capture 4k60 I know I can't go with a Origin PC Chronos V2 choice as it does not have enough space to fit this extra PCIe card. https://www.originpc.com/gaming/desktops/chronos-v2/ This built is intended for gaming, video game development, coding, and game streaming, similar to the previous build but it will see more usage on technical stuff. Thanks for reading! :)

Hey guys... After about a year of watching LTT and FINALLY having a custom built PC, I decided to run Cinebench R23 to see what my PC score is... but it crashes my system EVERYTIME. No bluescreen - just freezing of the App and my OS. Can someone provide some advice? Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? Specs can be provided if needed.

Before saying anything, I'd just like to say that I'm very UNexperienced in pc building and general stuff so ANY help is appreciated. Thanks so much. Budget (including currency): 3000USD (I still haven't fully saved up yet, and might not be able to get all the money until like half a year or so haha) Country: Japan Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mainly for gaming, video/image editing (Adobe Softwares like AE and PS), streaming/recording in high fps, multitasking, general work, etc. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Only looking to build a pc. No peripherals or anything needed. My current build is a pre-built: i7-8700 GTX 1660ti 16GB RAM FYI, I definitely want a better pc than the one I have right now although I know my current pc isn't TOO bad. Since this pc is going to be pretty much my dream/best build, I want some pretty good specs like - the new RTX 3000s series? - And I'm also thinking to switch from Intel to Ryzen as well. I also heard that Ryzen was releasing a new CPU? But I honestly don't know. As I said, I'm completely unexperienced in the area of pc building and general stuff. - 32GB of ram would be cool! (4x8gb or 2x16gb I don't really care). - I want a white-themed and maybe some RGB in a few places to make it look clean. - I was thinking to get a Lian Li O11 Dynamic White, but I'm not sure if it's good. - I saw the Corsair LL120 RGB white triple fan kit and I honestly fell in love with them, but I heard corsair products were generally expensive so some advice on that would be great too. - I have no idea what makes a good motherboard and what's compatible with the things I want, so I haven't decided on them yet. - I'd love quite some storage since I do a lot of high fps recordings on my pc which tends to take up a lot of storage as well as games and such. But not like a CRAZY amount. Just a decent amount. I don't know what else I need to say. I'll be on this forum for quite a bit from now so I should be replying to anyone pretty quickly (although I don't know if anyone WILL even help me haha) but once again, I appreciate any help and I can't be more thankful. You guys are awesome and hope you have a wonderful rest of your day

What Graphics Card Should I Get
Superwholotaku posted a blog entry in Used GTX 970 vs GTX 980, Which should I get?
So I'm close to finishing up my personal gaming/streaming rig and I'm having trouble choosing a graphics card. I know the card I'm going to get is going to be used but I cant decide between an EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 or an EVGA GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0. I will be overclocking them to the best of my abilities if that will help in deciding.- 3 comments
