I want to upgrade my GFX card to the EVGA GTX 1080 FTW edition. First time I've ever done anything with my hardware so I have very little idea of what I'm doing. After installing the new card, and booting up, the computer will not get to the post screen and the Boot Device LED stays on. The card lights up and the fans spin up for a while and my monitor turns on as if it is receiving signal but just shows black. The system works fine with the old card (Radeon HD 7970) if I put it back in. I've tried restarting numerous times, unplugging all peripherals. I tried uninstalling all the AMD drivers to no avail and also tried booting into safe mode which doesn't make a difference seeing as it doesn't even POST. Windows 10 64-bit Sabertooth x79 (BIOS version: 1104 x64) Intel Core i7-3930k 16GB Kingston DDR3 @ 1066 MHz Corsair HX 1050 EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW Everything else works fine except as long as the 1080 isn't connected, is the GFX card even compatible with the rest of the system?

I'm having an issue where by my computer will not display anything to the monitors. No access to BIOS. Motherboard speaker is installed. With everything installed I got a solid DRAM light with no beeps, no post, and no display. Tried the MemOK process. No change. I then tried different RAM configurations (both individually/together and in different slots/combinations), ending up with just 1 RAM stick installed following the User Manual. This resulted in a singular beep, a solid boot_device_led and the CPU fan speed reducing to idle. GPU fans are going as well. I know the keyboard works because I am able to CTL+Alt+Del to restart the computer at this point. I've tried both GPUs together and separately as well as connecting directly to the motherboard HDMI/VGA ports. I have tried removing devices one-by-one, until ultimately ending up with only the 1 RAM stick, and the CPU. No hard drive, or GPU plugged at all. I've attempted re-seating all power connectors, all peripheral connectors, removing CMOS battery, jumping the CLRTC jumper, etc. Everything in this configuration, save for the Z170-PRO, is confirmed functioning as I'm combining parts from my old PC (GPU, all SATA drives, peripherals) and another functioning PC I received (CPU/Fan, RAM, PSU, however using a H110 motherboard). Both donor computers booted and ran without issues immediately before the Frankenstein build. I want to rule out everything before making a claim on the Z170-Pro as I purchased it used. (I know I took a risk buying a used motherboard on ebay.) (I built this using PCPartpicker... so I'm pretty sure but not positive that means they are compatible. Is this true?) Check if EVERY power cable is connected. Auxiliary power connectors included. Make sure the cable coming from your monitor is attached securely to the graphics card. Also make sure it is securely attached to the monitor itself. Make sure your PSU is powerful enough to power your complete system. Make sure your monitor works by testing it on a different computer. If you have both a dedicated GPU and an iGPU, try your monitor on both the outputs on the graphics cards as well as on the motherboard. Make sure all connectors and cables are plugged in securely, reseat if necessary. Make sure your RAM, CPU and GPU are plugged in securely, reseat if necessary. If the motherboard you're using has debug LEDs, check the error code and consult the motherboard manual to see what it means. If you have a debug speaker connected to the motherboard, note the beep sequence and consult the motherboard manual or this thread to see what it means. Try clearing your CMOS. (Yes, left the battery out for a whole 10 minutes!) Try booting your computer with only a motherboard, CPU and one stick of RAM attached (if you don't have an iGPU, plug in your GPU as well ). Make sure your GPU works (if you have a dedicated one), try it in another computer. Make sure your RAM works, try it another computer. Make sure the RAM is compatible with your CPU and your motherboard. Additional information that may be relevant I exchanged the mother board for a new one. I'm putting a pea sized amount of thermal paste on the cpu before installing the cooler. I've attempted booting w/o the storage device connected. I've tried booting with each stick of ram as a stand alone. I assembled outside the case, as well, to make sure the mobo wasn't grounding on something inside. I called ASUS help desk and they couldn't help either. Yes, I really did all 15 steps... multiple times. Big thanks to @HPWebcamAble for helping with my initial trouble shoot. I've built my rig twice now, with two different mobo's. After both builds, when I power on the comp, it goes through POST and stops at the BOOT_DEVICE LED. The manual simply says, "If any error is found, the critical component's LED stays lit up until the problem is solved." What are the odds that both mobo's are defective? I built the rig using PCPartpicker, even still, I went through to confirm that the parts are compatible. To my amateur understanding they are... HOWEVER, I admit I maybe wrong, as I am a noob. Honestly, I'm open to any (rational) recommendations at this point and I thank you all for your advice in advance!

MB: Asus Z97-A Processor: Intel i7 4790k Graphics Card: Nvidia EVGA GTX 970 4GB OS: Windows 7 Memory: DDR3: Kingston Duel Channel 16GB I'm not quite sure what to do here. This happens about 75-80% of the time. Either my Boot device LED comes on, VGA LED comes on, or both turn on. I kinda just press the reset switch on my case until it comes through and it starts to load up my OS. I'm not quite sure what else to say, my monitor doesn't come to life when the LEDs are on, but I imagine you all already assumed that.

On startup the pc goes on, cpu and case fans go on, graphics card Logo goes on fancy case LEDs aswell. they al stay on and function Then my Asus z170 pro gaming mobo cycles through the debug LEDs (not an actual screen but 4 separate LEDs): 1. CPU LED goes red, then after 1 sec switches off (CPU is gud) 2. DRAM LED goes red, then after 1 sec switches off (DRam is gud) 3. VGA LES goes red, then after 1 sec switches off (GPU is gud) 4. BOOT DEVICE LED goes on and stays on PC does not post anything on my display connected through vga on the mobo! Whoever gets my pc to run gets a cookie!

Hey all, I've got a problem starting up my system I built about 8 months ago. Specs: CPUi5-4690k MotherboardAsus Z97-A RAMKingston Fury Black Series 8GB DDR3-1866 GPUEVGA GTX 980 Superclocked CaseFractal Design Define R4 StorageW RE4 2TB, Corsair Force LX 256GB SSD PSUCorsair CS650M CoolingCorsair h100i, w/ 2 Corsair SP 120mm fans, 2 insignia 120mm fans. Issue: This weekend I decided to re-position the radiator of the h100i to the front intake for a push/pull configuration, I did have to remove the cooler and re-seat it on the CPU. It took a while (tight fit with the hard drive cage) but once it was all put back together I encountered the following problem. On startup, my system powers on and all the debug LED's flash once (as per normal) on the ASUS Z97-A. However the Boot Device LED remains a solid red. I see the ASUS loading screen for about 2 seconds with the text below saying "press F2 or Delete to enter UEFI BIOS setting" (which is unresponsive). It then takes me to the AMI POST screen, shown below. The only option is to "press F1 to run SETUP". Upon pressing F1 the screen goes black and remains this way. I've waited for it but it really just remains blank. I don't see how the radiator re-positioning would cause this problem, So I believe it's a problem with the motherboard. Ive tried the following with no success: - Disconnecting the drives and starting the system, turn system off, then connecting them and starting system up. - Starting system with 1 stick of ram installed - Taking out CMOS battery for 15 mins, replacing with new battery, start up system. - Reset CMOS. Thoughts: - Maybe I need a BIOS Update, but can I update the BIOS if I cant get into the BIOS itself to boot? - I've read the SATA controller can die, maybe its this? - I doubt it but maybe there is actually a problem with the drives? If so how would I test? Just wanted to bring it here before I contact ASUS, Any help would be appreciated!

So I just finished my new build with my friend, and when we turn the pc on the leds on the asus mobo cycle through and the "boot device led" stays on and is solid. Because of this, we are not able to get a video out from the pc and can't reach the bios. After reading around the internet we found that we should remove all memory sticks except for one (in the fourth slot), reset the CMOS, and try again. The good news is that this worked, the leds cycled (including the "boot device led" one) and brought me to the bios. The problem is I was unable to find the usb device that I have windows on so I removed it and the bios closed. Since that point I am unable to get to the bios despite the "boot device led" being off. Please someone help me!
