The powersupply is a 250W Asrock Gold Mini ITX PSU. Its currently housed on a 2HE Server Chassi (Chenbro or Rackable I think) Use Case: Currently I am happily running 5 "ubuntu-server" VMs with each 4 vcpu's using KVM, the host os is ubuntu server. My use case is hosting the infrastructure at the companies I work for, on my homelab to do basic troubleshooting and pre-deployment testing on new products, since at work I cannot make any errors or hundreds of Devs would be standing before my door. The Problem: The CPU i currently have is great, low tdp and nice clockspeed, but when deploying heavy infrastructures like Attlassian software, seperate PostgresDB, Icinga, Ingres on a Kubernetes Cluster, I do run into heavy performance issues. So my Question for the Users of this Forum: I saw that the passmark score of the Epyc 3251 is 7x more than the c2758 while having still a relative low tdp. Therefore the Question: if this setup is favorable for a new Homelab. The Supermicro M11SDV-8C+-LN4f costs each around 600-700€ I plan to buy 32GB DDR4 ECC Mem for each Machine I already have the rest at home (PSU, Case) Ah yes before I forget, I plan on buying 2 Boards, for various reasons. Summary ASRock Rack launched ROMED4ID-2T motherboard, a Mini-ITX mobo that accommodate up to 64 core AMD EPYC server CPU. Actually its form factor is "Deep" Mini-ITX, being 170*208mm, and using one MATX screw hole. Thanks to its "deeper" profile, now this mobo is equipped with standard DIMM slots rather than SODIMM ones, and has some bonus space for front M.2 SSD slot. Yeah... it's still stupid. EPYC CPUs can handle up to 8 channel RAMs but this can house only 4 RAM sticks, and PCIe slot is limited to just one. But if you're into some small form factor overpowered video editing or rendering... or just for fun somethingy stuff, this is for you. I'm thinking of building an own server for multi purpose, including NAS, Media Center, Web-Hosting (mostly for accessing the NAS Files on the Go) and Git-Hosting. The Storage Capacity for the NAS would be between 40 and 60TB in usable Storage. I plan to go with 32GB of RAM, with the intention to upgrade later. At the moment I'm a bit uncertain, for wich CPU I should go. I consider three Options: 1: AMD EPYC 16-CORE 7281 2: AMD Epyc 8-CORE 7232P or 7252 3: 2x 4 or 6 Core XEON What would you suggest me? As the Top500 is based on submissions, and China might have multiple exascale-class systems, but have chosen not to submit them amidst geopolitical tensions with the US. Some other suggestions as to why China has chosen not to submit them, is that they don't hit their claimed performance numbers. As far as the Top 10 goes; Intel now only has one system, holding position number 9. The rest in the Top 10 being: AMD, Fujitsu, IBM/Nvidia, NRCPC, AMD/Nvidia, and Intel/Matrix 2000. Intel's 14nm processes are suffering from supply shortages, affecting both Consumer and Enterprise markets across their 14nm SKUs. On the consumer side, this is affecting pricing of Intel's 8000 series CPUs, and may even affect the upcoming Intel 9000 series release Interestingly, HPE has published a partner update (which appears to have been published publicly) mentioning their ongoing supply issues with Intel's 14nm Xeons that have been impacting availability across some SKUs. Part of this update includes recommendations on alternative models that feature the AMD epyc line of processors as an alternative to the Intel Xeon lineup I'm quite surprised that Intel would have issues such as this on a released product? We aren't talking about the market requesting new 10nm, which Intel have already outlined is delayed. With that being said, there's discussions that this is related to changes in the 10nm production timeline, which is impacting 14nm production It seems like Intel is dropping the ball on this, with AMD more than happy to pick up the slack.
