I'm in the market for a monitor for my laptop to make a docking station-style setup. This Lenovo seems to check all my boxes: 27" 4K Thunderbolt 4 4ms response time Around $500 US (though converted into my currency) HDR400 I found a couple others that were in my price range, and also had Thunderbolt and 4K, though one of them (Samsung Viewfinity S8) had really bad reviews and the other one (an LG Ultrasharp or Ultrafine, I think) had reviews that said it tended to develop dead pixels. Since it's marketed more toward professional uses, the reviews all seem to focus on that. I did find one review that it's not recommended for gamers, though the review doesn't mention why. I don't play super fast-paced games like shooters or racers, and I don't really care for anything beyond 60Hz (I play mostly action-adventure, RPGs and platformers, Mario Kart and Smash are about the fastest-paced games I play). Also, before it's asked, the monitor is not only for my Switch gaming, I also intend to stream content through the laptop, and in a few months, game on a PS5, that's why I'm looking for 4K and not FHD or QHD. Is anyone familiar with this monitor and why it might not be good for gaming, besides the refresh rate? Does anyone have any other/better recommendations around that price point with Thunderbolt 3/4, 27" and 4K?

Hello, I am looking for a 4k monitor 32" inch, for screen recording (to upload videos to youtube in 4k), video editing (Adobe Premiere Pro) and video games. I have an Nvidia Asus Rog RTX 3090 OC graphics card, but I don't have enough money to buy an ASUS PG32UQX monitor. I don't like 27" inch monitors (because they are too small). Kindly, can someone help me and suggest a valid alternative? I am from Italy. Thank you!

Hi guys, Thinking of upgrading my Xbox one X to Series X|S depending on many factors So planning to ditch my 1080p (Asus vc239h) and upgrade it Should i pick a good 1440p monitor or a cheap 4k monitor, is the difference noticeable ? Or should i just stick with the existing 1080p ? I don't currently have any complaints with it other than speaker volume being low (which i very rarely use, so can be ignored). Price Range: £250 - £350 (during this black friday) (Guess its a small budget) Screen Size: 27" preferred, I travel around so it should be able to fit into my checkin trolley bag (not sure if 32 inch will fit safely in the bag) Panel Type: IPS preferred Speakers: Required Type of Games i play: Mostly single player, so not much of competitive gaming Purpose: Gaming & Netflix

Hello I was wondering if anyone was able to help me find the best monitor control panel settings. I typically just use it for gaming. It is Gsync compatible and I leave it on. I was wondering which settings for the monitor would be best for my case. Is leaving the monitor 10 bit okay or is it better to have it 8 bit for gaming? Should I have the colour format as RGB or ycbcr444? Also should I change these settings for HDR and SDR gaming or can I have them the same for both? I typically have HDR on if the game supports it. Are there any other colour settings I should be looking at for this?

Hello there, I was hoping some friendly people on the forum could help me out with a decision here. Basically i've been looking at 2 different 4K (UHD) monitors, one 24 inch and one 28 inch. I am debating which one to get purely because of the following reasons: 1. My current monitor is 24 inch and another 24 inch will keep my setup clean 2. The 24 inch version is IPS whereas the 28 inch version is TN 3. 24 inch version comes with adjustable stand with height adjust and able to turn the monitor to 90 degrees 4. 28 inch monitor has a 1ms response time vs 4ms response time with the 24 inch model (Gaming is important for me but not too sure how much difference 1ms and 4ms will make + Already have a 1080p 1ms 144hz display for primary gaming) 5. Is 28 inch too big for the distance I am sitting at, relatively close around 30-40cm away from my screen + not much desk space What are your guys' thoughts? Which one would you suggest? Thank you for your support!

I found this thing on sale when I was looking around. It's normally $350 ($500 on Newegg). I have no idea how good (or bad) it actually is, but if you spent all your money on a new rig and don't have much left for a 4k monitor it's at least worth a quick look. http://www.kmart.com/upstar-28inch-4k-uhd-led-monitor/p-012W008507308001P

Hi, I'm stuck between 2 4k monitors to choose from The first one is a aoc 28" https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0163JLIWU/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1504044971&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=4k+monitor&dpPl=1&dpID=41i6zaV07CL&ref=plSrch 2nd is a LG 27" https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01JM4E1ZE/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1504044971&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=4k+monitor&dpPl=1&dpID=51Fy25Xvb2L&ref=plSrch I understand the 2nd may ghost, but with it being a IPS display it will have better viewing quality, I'll be using these mainly for gaming on the new xbox one X and my current PC which has a AMD Rx480 so both monitors support freesync. Just would like to know people's opinions or if they have a better option, thanks.

Found this, wondering if there’s anything I’m not seeing about this that’s awful because the price seems like an absolute steal. I’m not really looking to use it on my PC, just for the Xbox so the 24inch size shouldn’t have any issues in regards to scalability or text on websites being bad etc.

TV vs Monitor Hi all. I am looking at LG's new 43 inch AH-IPS monitor LG 43UD79-B. I've watched the reviews and while it looks really cool, the image quality seems a bit, meh. It costs £679.99 GBP. Key strengths are the AH-IPS panel and the 5ms response time. Wouldn't be primarily for gaming. I then saw LG's 43 inch 4k 43UJ750V which is a TV and a little cheaper at £619.00 GBP. Reviews are sparse with all the weirdness that goes on with TV model numbers. This TV is listed as an IPS (no mention of AH-IPS) but supports all major HDR standards (no HDR on the monitor). No explicit mention of response times, but led to believe its not an issue particularly with game mode on. Both displays are 4k and 43 inches and will primarily be used for productivity. But my first concern is picture quality. Any of you fine learned folks able to offer any insight? Thanks, Dan.

Just curious of what people's thoughts are on this. I went with VR and am waiting for higher refresh rate 4k monitors and just for them to get cheaper too. I care a lot about frame rates so I wouldn't buy one yet. Plus, I figured virtual reality is more fun that just higher resolutions. I wasn't disappointed. I still wish I had a 4k monitor though Either or is a good answer really. To each their own. Just kind of want to see what other people think.

So I have seen a lot of this topic, but decided that now that I have experienced 4k gaming personally that I wanted to share my experience, both for those who are curious, on the fence about getting the gear to 4k game, or otherwise just wanted information that wasn't just an opinion from someone who doesn't actually 4k game. So let me start off by saying that for you guys and gals running older rigs, you are my people. I typically do a new build every 3-4 years, and upgrade certain things like ram, or the GPU every 2 years. I am very used to gaming on low settings, or having to make compromises on less then great gear to be able to even run games. I remember actually pushing an older Radeon (don't remember which) so hard the fan and heat block actually melted off the GPU! Let me also explain what I am not. I am not a PC wizard, or someone who knows everything there is to know about PC components and programs. I would say I have a hell of a lot more knowledge then the average consumer, and I understand how a lot of the basic principles of how things work together inside a computer. But I am always learning more and more, thanks to the great community here and my own time spent researching. But just like Linus, everything I know is mostly self learned or taught. For the last 5 years however I have made enough money to join the enthusiast realm and right now that is where 4k gaming kind of sits. Now I know there are those doing 4k gaming on things like the RX480, which can give you decent FPS in lower graphically demanding titles. And while I do play those games as well (CSGO and the like) I spend a hell of a lot of the time in games like Fallout 4, Dark Souls 3, Witcher 3, Skyrim SSE, GTA V etc. Big open world type games with demanding graphics and polygon counts that really put your machine through it's paces. What I wanted was a 4k experience where even if I had to compromise on some FPS I could still game at relatively high settings and get 50-60 average FPS. I have gamed at 144hz and while that is also a great experience, the whole point of this was to go 4k. I also wanted to do this on a single GPU, since lets face it the SLI and Crossfire solution is never going in my opinion to the "Best" solution. So lets dive in! First off lets start with listing the components that will dictate the experience. GTX 1080 EVGA SC i7 6700k overclocked to 4.4ghz 16 GB DDR4 3200 GSkill ram Mushkin Reactor 1tb SSD I was able to snag a 4k 27inch Seiki UHD monitor for about $170 on Amazon during a sale. I wasn't able to afford either IPS or G-Sync however. First challenge was calibrating it, and make no mistake I HAD to calibrate it. The stock color settings were terrible. But after about 20 minutes of tinkering I got a color and crisp quality I was seeking, and had to use display port to ensure I got the full 60 hz I needed for 60 FPS gaming. It sits next to a 24 Inch Acer IPS 1080p monitor and and I am happy that I was able to get a very similar color quality by again just spending time calibrating it. The second challenge was the settings within each game. What I found was that by turning off things like AA or high shadows textures, I was able to keep the rest of the settings on high or in some cases Ultra and still keep again a average 50-60 FPS. I used Nividia's optimizer and found that I rarely had to tweak settings after to get the graphics I wanted while still keeping FPS at least 50 with the exception of Battlefield 1. Here are a few pictures to illustrate. I use a TON of mods in Skyrim. Cause why not use a roll cage as a helmet? Only noobs troll noobs in Farron ;D 1:30 Clip of mixed ultra/high settings in Battlefield 1 with AA turned off. Was able to get steady 55-60 FPS. Personal Conclusion: 4k gaming is a serious treat, and while you can get a pretty get a great experience on a 144hz platform with 2k resolution, I found that I enjoyed the higher graphical experience more. Now I am not a purest in that my games MUST perform 60 fps min to enjoy them. But I was able to get almost all my titles in the 50-60 fps sweet spot, without having to turn down the graphics much, or give up settings that I honestly don't care about, but that's just me. If you have the money, or bought a GTX 1080 I think its worth it to get a 4k monitor and enjoy the experience. Obviously 4k is still new and won't be mainstream affordable for a while. But technology continues to speed up I wouldn't be surprised if 2017 is the year when 4k becomes the standard for most people, and much more affordable. Hopefully you found this review helpful especially if you have been on the fence on buying the required hardware or not. All this from someone who bought, used, and tested 4k gaming, not just another opinion from someone who knows all the technical aspects, but has no actual hands on experience. As always any feedback is appreciated.

Hey guys, I am a software developer and am going to place an order for a workstation (desktop replacement) grade custom laptops from one of Clevo re-sellers. I have attached the complete config snapshot that I plan to purchase. There's only options for (desktop grade) GTX 1060 6GB or 1070 8GB or 1080 GB Nvidia graphics card. I have chosen 17.3" 4K (3840x2160) laptop monitor. I also already have an external 2K monitor. What I want to know is: 1. Will Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 be able to support both monitors (4K Laptop and 2K external) simultaneously for light usage such as coding, browsing etc. ? 2. If not then will GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 be able to ? 3. If not then will GTX 1080 8GB GDDR5 be able to ? Also how would the above be affected if i wanted to play a game on one of the monitors (while the other is operational too) ? Thanks !

I'm in the market for a 4k Monitor, one with a larger screen size. I think the ideal size for a 4k monitor would be somewhere between 32"-42" monitors. Too much smaller than 32" and everything is too small without display scaling, and anything too much larger, you have to constantly twist your head back and forth to view the monitor. Most 4k monitors are between 24"-29" in size. That's why I've had to do a lot of research Here's what I currently have to power a 4k monitor: 6700k 32gb of DDR4 GTX 1070 My primary usage for this monitor would be productivity. A combination of web development, very large financial spreadsheets, multiple applications side by side (Chrome, Word, Firefox, etc). Gaming would be a very distant second consideration for this monitor. Given that I have a Nvidia card, there's really nothing out there that I've found when it comes to G-Sync and large-scale monitors, much less at the surely insane price tag it would go for. Found this thread over at overclock.net: http://www.overclock.net/t/1612256/40-korean-4k-monitors-state-of-play-oct-16 Basically, that leaves mostly the following monitors to choose from according to my research: WASABI MANGO UHD400 SpecificationModel name: Wasabi Mango UHD 400 Real 4K HDMI 2.0 40" PVA Panel MonitorScreen size: 40 inch 16:9 wide (101.5cm)Viewing size: 884.736mm(H) X 497.664mm(V)Max resolution: 3840X2160Response time: 5msBrightness: 350cd/m²Video Inputs: D-Sub, DisplayPort, HDMI StandardContrast ratio: 5000:1Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 5,000,000:1Colors: 1.07B Dithered 10bitViewing angle: 178(H), 178(V)Input power: AC 100-240V / 50-60HzMonitor size (with stand): 36"(W) X 23.2" (H) X 9.6" (D)Box size: 38.7"(W) X 24.4"(H) X 4.1"(D)1 Year Warranty / 2-4 days FedEx, UPS Free Expedited Shipping / Carefully Packed /Ship in 1 business day TekSyndicate Overview: PHILIPS BDM4065UC 40" Class Monitor (39.56” Viewable) VA Panel, Quad 3840 x 2160 resolution 16:9 Aspect Ratio w/ 8 Bit Color Support Connectivity- USB 3.0 Hub, VGA, Display Port, Mini Display Port, HDMI MHL-HDMI, Audio In/Out Brightness- 300 cd/m2, Dynamic Contrast Ratio- 50,000,000:1, Response Time- 3ms Stereo Speakers, VESA Mountable This video looks into using a 4K television as a monitor, the pros and cons. I still haven't found a mainstream television that has a display port, so it seems questionable to want to run a 4k TV as a monitor, but someone correct me if they think there is a case to be had for going this route. Does anyone else have a line on more huge 4k monitors coming out? What makes and models? Is there any English-language site that tracks the release of these special format monitors? It seems that large-scale 4k monitors are at the present moment just a Korean thing. Would like to gather some more info before dropping $600 or more on a screen. Thanks for any pointers!

I really don’t know which one to choose. Because they’re both godly monitor and if you say 27 inch is too small I don’t really care because I use scaling and I don’t really use lots of apps. So other things people said is that I can’t run 4K at 144fps and I agree with them but I have 2080 ti and even if I don’t get lots of frame I set some useless graphic settings to low. To be honest I do lots of things with my monitor(except productivity) But I watch youtube videos I watch cinematic film and even tv series and my main point is gaming. I know pg27uq have better colors and better resolution and in other hand pg35vq have more immersive experience. Now the simple question is: is it worth it I give extra 500$ for pg35vq and lose some resolution and color range just for more immersive experience? With pg35vq TV shows and youtube videos get black bars too. So can somebody really give me advice to choose one of them.

Every video on YouTube I've seen about 90% of them says that no gpu can push the graphics stable on a 4K monitor, is it possible that the Radeon iiv has solved it? 16gb of vram should be able, right?

Hi guys, looking to get 2 displays for an upcoming build. Any recommendations/suggestions would be much appreciated as I don’t know lot about monitors. Thanks. 1) For gaming/regular use – 32” 1440p 120/144hz. The build will most likely have a 5700 XT so freesync would be nice. I dont need HDR for this but how is something like TUF VG32VQ or Samsung C32HG70? Let me know if these are bad choices. These are VA panels; would IPS be better for this? I don’t want ultrawide and don’t need good viewing angles because I’ll be looking at it straight; from like 3 feet away. I’ll also have the setup in the basement, if that’s of any importance… 2) For media/secondary – 32” 2160p 60hz with HDR. So this is where I’m really stuck. I’ve tried researching HDR on monitors for media and it confused the hell outta me. I have 4K Bluray discs that I wanna be able to watch on this so I’d like it to have HDR just as you would on a 4K TV. What kinda budget am I looking at? Asus recently released their new ProArt series with HDR and Dolby Vision but that’s going for 5000 CAD which is way over my budget. Their PA32UC (without DV) is currently at 2000 CAD. If this is my only choice I cant buy it right now but probably next summer or if it goes on sale. Also, I don’t need to have this monitor within the next couple of months. What about monitors like Asus CG32UQ, LG 32UL950, or Dell U3219Q? Are these not good enough? Because RTINGS and DisplayNinja are not recommending these or say “limited HDR”. I know you guys need to know the budget so I guess I would love to keep both monitors under 2000 CAD? But let me know what kinda budget I’m looking at for my needs. Sorry if I missed any info. Thanks.

I am currently in the market for 4k IPS low response time 144hz monitor with HDR. I was wondering what effects does display stream compression have on it. And is it better to have a monitor that has uncompressed bandwitch or one with DSC? What benefit would HDMI 2.1 provide for monitors? Or it does not affect it at all compared to DSC. Thanks

Hi guys, I'm wanting to buy a (Dell UltraSharp U2718Q 27" 4K UHD HDR IPS LED InfinityEdge) monitor, and I was wondering if it's possible to overclock it? I've currently got an Acer XB280HK and it doesn't like any changes in refresh rate (lower or higher than 60Hz). I want to have an overclock-able monitor at roughly 75Hz but nothing other $800AUD. Also, I'm going to be using it with my Switch, XBox and PC. Is it a good choice for consoles (can't find a small 4K TV)? Thanks
