I need help deciding between the 21:9 G34WQC and the 16:9 odyssey g7. With the ultrawide, I'm afraid of smearing (both are VA's but the g7 has godlike overdrive) with the g7 I'm afraid of missing the glory of ultrawide. Pushing the pixels won't be an issue as I have a computer with an RTX 3080. I play competitive shooters Like csgo, apex, and valorant but also games like tomb raider, cyberpunk 2077, and witcher 3. I know all the specs and such. My problem is that I have only ever had IPS or TN 16:9 monitors and one IPS 21:9 monitor so I don't know what smearing feels like or how severe it is on the G34WQC and similar monitors. Please give me advice.

I'm used ro 16:9 aspect ratio, so 21:9 sounds really weird for me Do most games support that aspect ratio? What about most videos / movies / etc?

I'm looking to get three 32" displays for iRacing but I won't be able to get it till later this year. Any good ones that were announced at CES that are due to come out or already have that I should look into? 32" 1440p at least 144hz 16:9 curved freesync or gsync low response time

Hi Guys So I have, for the first time bought a 144hz monitor. I have been looking for a while but money has been tight and I was determined to get 27" or higher. Due to money being tight (and my current setup) I decided that a FHD (1080p) would be fine. I currently mostly play fast paced competitive games (Rocket League) so wanted to prioritise fps over resolution. I am running a 3570k (40x multiplier), 16gb DDR3 1600mhz kingston (fury i think), Z77 D3H, MSI 290x and a Samsung 840 pro SSD. The monitor I purchased was a 32" Acer XZ321Q (I got it from scan but it has been discontinued now). I have the monitor plugged in via supplied DP cable. My radeon settings recognised it instantly and freesync turned on automatically. I ensured the radeon drivers were updated to latest (17.2 I think). Everything else via the radeon settings seemed to be up to date. My issue is that on my previous monitor (60hz 29" 21:9 2560 x 1080 benq) the game looked perfect. I could run Rocket League with everything on high/max, and graphically it looked fine (not considering the 60fps max). On this monitor, everything is still the same settings in game but I am getting serious aliasing in game, and flickering on the arena walls. I considered that it is maybe because it is a larger screen at 1080p, but it is quite bad. Does anyone have any suggestions, or need any more info from me to make a suggestion as to what may be causing this? Thanks in advance. Jonathan

so im looking to get 2 16:9 monitors to match my 21:9 29" monitor, and ive heard its 23-24", but what if its slightly bigger, or smaller? is there a way to align them in Eyefinity?

Playing terraria in 21:9 does not work, the only mod i could find was RomTerraria and that fixes the resolution but lock my "Colour" mode at retro witch is horrible in terraria. I want to get 16:9 1920x1080 with black bars on the sides much like overwatch allows you to do. How do i fix this as there is no way to do anything from the in game menu. Thanks in advance

I read somewhere that 16:9 is just a cropped version of 4:3, however I do not know the validity of that statement or if it even applies to the GH5. However that made me wonder, which ratio will give me more information to work with? If 16:9 is truly a cropped version of 4:3 on the GH5, would shooting in 4:3 give me more room to work with in post? I understand that the point of 4:3 is for anamorphic lens, but I was just wondering if there could be other uses for it.

I have an X34 Predator monitor. It's an ultra-wide at 3440x1440 resolution with Gsync. I drive it with a GTX 980 Ti. For games that are either locked or will deform when not in the 16:9 aspect ratio, the monitor can gracefully run at 2560x1440. Back when I was using a 1080p display, I would run some games in Dynamic Super Resolution at or around 4K. I've been having an issue where I want to set DSR to a 16:9 4K resolution (3840x2160) but the monitor won't accept this custom resolution even though it can accept DSR resolutions in the 21:9 aspect ratio. Anyone ever run into this before? Anything I should try?

I feel as though I should get a final answer to this question. All of my friends at sixth form believe it to be the latter, but in any case, HERE IS THE QUESTION:

Which do you think is better? 16:9 with a curve or a flat ultrawide? Same size and res of Ultra wide with 2560x1080 and a Curved 16:9 res of 1920x1080

Hello all, thanks for stopping by. I am going to give a TL:DR now because I'll go more in depth then some may like so here is the basic issue and then for better details continue reading. TL:DR = I can't get my videos to work properly from 21:9 to 16:9 on YouTube anymore. I export in h2.64 with Premiere and could previously fullscreen in both aspect ratios in the YouTube player. No longer can I do that it seems. I can't figure out how to get just 16:9 to work either now coming from 21:9. Any tips? (the video is 1920x1080 after Premiere and looks fine on my phone, it's after YouTube that is breaks) I record gameplay of video games at 2560x1080 using shadowplay, as I think it has the best quality, best file size, ease of use, and least system demanding. I have had no problems editing with Adobe Premiere and uploading in 21:9. I didn't want to neglect the majority of viewers, so I used Premiere to convert to 1920x1080. It worked great up until a week or so ago when all of my videos converted to the 21:9 aspect ratio after I uploaded another video. I import in 2560x1080, 29fps, recommended bit rate ect. I export with a custom preset, using h2.64, but to get it to fullscreen properly with no letterboxing (black bars top and bottom) I use HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333) Aspect setting. When exported, I can still fullscreen on my ultrawide, and when viewing on my phone (transfer over) or other 16:9 display it fullscreens too. However, when I upload it to YouTube, it no longer fills the 16:9 aspect ratio while simultaneously filling my ratio too, like it had in the past. I'd rather they be pure 16:9 then both if it means it will never be 16:9, it was a miracle it fullscreened properly for both ratios honestly when uploaded. That was as short as I could get it with being thorough and explaining the situation. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this, or to export properly? I prefer to have 1080p but will settle for 720p, but after over a dozen export trials on an Outlast 2 demo video I did, I can't for the life of me get it to be only 16:9, or resolve my issue to before. Here is a link to the Outlast 2 Demo video because I mentioned it above so you can understand what I mean. If you have a 21:9 display, it should fullscreen fine. But 16:9 users will have letterboxing. You can tell there is an issue immediately because without fullscreening, the YouTube player isn't using the all the space before you expand the window. There is letterboxing there too. It seemed to be when I uploaded a video that they all converted, even though it was the same format as previous ones. Note that this is in fact a 1920x1080 video, as confirmed when I look at the video properties, not 2560x1080 like the first part to the Amnesia AMFP I did. I appreciate any and all advice or thoughts on the topic, I wish YouTube hadn't thrown me this curve ball as even though my viewership is literally just my friends, I enjoy making videos more than I have been working on my major and seem to have a built in passion for film/photography that I'd like to pursue. I have contacted YouTube support at least twice, and the first time they said they had some people working on it but no ETA for a fix. I don't know if I can still believe that or not but would rather get an opinion from someone who's probably dealt with it more and has much more experience in what I'm trying to accomplish. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Im on a split road that has me to choose between a new monitor, currently looking at a Samsung S24F350FHU, which is a LED, PLS, 24 inch, 1080p monitor with Freesync. And a headset which is the Sennheiser HD-280 Pro. Both will cost me somewhat above 100 Euro so if anyone has any better suggestions im happy to have a look. For those who are wondering i currently use an Acer P223W, which is a 16:10, 22 inch, LCD monitor. My headset is the Sharkoon Zone H40, it's a decent headset (actually the best one i've had since it was the most expensive i've had) but the microphone doesn't work anymore and sometimes i have to play with the cable to get both sides to work. Most of the time i play games or listen to music so that's what im gonna be using these things for, well one of them.

There is a lot of discussions on monitors based on refresh rates and input lag, ppi, etc and it all revolves around gamers who play fps type games, but what about those who don't? What about those who just play MMOs or single player games, do we really need a 144hz monitor with low input lag or can we dive down to something lower without any hindrance? Would like some input, thanks

So my gaming habits have changed a bit in that I now go to my buddies places more and more often with my machine. Since my only display is an ultrawide that is very difficult. I like the display....no doubt about it, but it isn't like I am dying when I only use a 16:9 for something else. I even tried using a 16:9 format for gaming on my 21:9 Monitor with black bars and forgot about it very quickly.....i dunno. Now you might be thinking "get to it already you...." and you are right. I ordered a refurbished MG24UQ for only 250 bucks. Super cheap for a very nice compact display that can either be used well for 4k or 1080p. It has yet to arrive, but I was so surprised about the amazing price on eBay (from an actual retailer that I actually bought the ultrawide from) that I just put a bid in at the minimum price and got it. I can send it back so no harm is done. In general my thought was that I like high res gaming and will probably sooner or later have a gpu that can drive that. I want a more portable monitor and the MG24UQ can actually be disassembled with a simple click. I don't mind 60hz much and freesync is still.in the box when dipping below that. I love IPS, which I would still have. Ultrawide is nice but lacks support still. I am looking at you Fallout 4...and many others. And I like the idea that 1080p looks good on a 4k screen because of it just being 4 times less pixels....well you get what I mean. Now if you say that 4k looks much better on a bigger screen...well yeah...maybe, but I already had a 28" 4k screen once and it wasnt all that great to sit in front of a huge screen like that. And I like that I can disable AA in games and just get a sharp image. Well I guess I will see. Also of course if anyone is curious about the monitors or anything you want me to look into, feel free to ask. I will be home on Sunday and then try out a few things. Monitor should get to me on saturday.

Hey guys, I am deciding on a monitor to purchase and I need help. I am purchasing the monitor for gaming and movies (21:9 Ideal) – productivity is not that important to me I will just be using the monitor for general browsing activities such as YouTube etc…. Currently I am thinking about purchasing the BenQ XR3501 (£390 - ATM). Useful information - Desk is 60cm in depth - GTX 1070 powering the system - 1080/1440p (either resolution is fine) - Prefer 21:9 - Curved display ideal - 27”+ minimum display size - Budget is £400 (UK) I’m confused I don’t have much knowledge this is the first time I will be selecting a monitor HEEELP! Thanks in advance.

So, I was planning on making an upgrade to my room and improving my gaming setup a little. I was considering whether I should just buy 2 ultra wide 144hz monitors or 3 full hd 144hz monitors. The thing is that I'm going to be learning professional video editing and 2D and 3D modeling, so I really don't know what would bring a better professional and gaming experience and would be most affordable. Also, have in mind that I have an Nvidia video card, so I want to know if monitors that use FreeSync would make for a decent experience or if I would have to shell out more money to find a screen that's compatible with G-Sync. Keep in mind that I would not buy all the monitors at the same time, so I have to worry about whether the display I choose to be my main will be decent on its own. I'm currently using my 40" TV as a display through HDMI. I'm eager to see what DisplayPort is capable of. Thanks for the attention in advance.

Hello, so I plan on upgrading the display on an old laptop. The current screen (15.6 inch 1366x768) has been damaged. I was wondering if the iGPU on the i5-2520M would be able to handle a 1600x900 screen without having horrible frame rate.

I just bought a 21:9 monitor the other day, and everything has been great up until I tried to play an older game that does not support 21:9. Instead of placing black bars, it crops the 16:9 content to 21:9, lowering the resolution and making things look weird. All games are cropped this way until I change the resolution, but this is a problem for games that don't support 21:9. Mods that change the game's resolution don't help. The monitor is an LG UM58-P without freesync or Gsync. I am using an RX 480. I'm perfectly fine with playing the games 16:9 on this monitor if I can find a way to do that.

So I can't currently do eyefinity because my triple monitor setup is: (Acer 23.6" - Samsung 32" - Acer 23.6"). So I need a new middle screen that has the same height as the flanking monitors but i quite fancy 21:9 monitors. So I did some research and the the LG 21:9 29" monitor has a height of 29cm while my current 23.6" monitors have a height of 29.4cm. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of setup and would the .4cm be noticeable?

So my girlfriend saw a 27" 1080p curved monitor at a local store from samsung and she really liked it. I can't quite remember whitch one but the specs were pretty mediocre: 1080p @60hz (at least w/ freesync) So i was wondering if there is a better alternative out there because i couldn't find one. . I am aware that curved screens are primarily used for ultrawides and benefits them most but she likes the form factor. I would appreciate it if anyone could name some monitors with a higher resolution or refresh rate. Manny Thanks Buttat

Hello Linus tech tips forum users, Who here plays on ultrawide and what games? And how are you liking it? Just finished my new gaming pc: Ryzen 3700x and RTX 2080 And I am looking to upgrade my monitor. I originally planned to buy the LG 34GK950f but I am really torn by the games I play. Mostly: FPS games like Apex legends, CSGO, Battlefield 5, New Call of Duty modern warfare once it comes out and the occasional tomb raider, assassins creed, guildwars 2 Would you recommend the LG 34GK950f (3440x1440 @144Hz) ultrawide or the LG 27GL850 (2560x1440 @ 144Hz)? Kind regards, Alex

Hello Linus tech tip forum I have a mystery I'm trying to figure out about my television funai television I am using as a monitor via serial cable. The average resolution i can run max is 1280x768 with black bars at the bottom and top, but every once in a while after I restart my computer it does something diffrent and allows me to run my monitor in 16:9 wide screen with everything stretched and small. I know about HDTV's being able to run about any res they want but my hardware is highly outdated and doesnt allow stretched 4:3 so its a miracle when I get a 16:9 resolution. What I'm asking basicly is if someone knows a consistant way of entering my monitor into a 16:9 aspect. Ratio from load up since that seems to be the only way to consistently load up a 16:9 aspect ratio. Thanks in advance this is the first time using a forum for help, I usually lurk along forums looking for answer's applying to my problem but this is my first time asking a question directly. Thanks in advance for the help.

I am having some issues playing some DVDs on my laptop. The content plays in 4:3. However, if I play the same DVD in a regular DVD player connected to my TV, it plays in 16:9. Does anyone know of a way around this. It might be fixed by using a different player software (currently I'm using Windows Media Player in Windows 7, but I had the same problem in Windows 10 VLC player). Or you might know of a setting to change this, if that is all it takes to fix this, I have yet to find the right setting. If you have any suggestions please let me know (however, please don't just say "check resolution settings" because I couldn't find anything there) ^^^^^^^^ I mean aspect ratio, sorry
