Long story short, my house burnt down, with it everything I own. Decided to build a PC rather than re-buy a Xbox or PS4. Watched a few LTT videos and slapped together a PC. The stats: 6700k i7, z170-e, strix gtx 1080 a8g, 32gb of ram, windows 10 64bit. The issue : 100% gpu usage all the time. MSI Afterburner is telling me that my gpu usage is at 100%. The only reason I checked is because my fps took a big hit. I'm not sure how long this has been an issue. I stepped away from gaming for a while after beating Fallout 4. (seriously what game comes close after that?) Bought Wasteland 2 on steam only to find after tinkering with all display settings the best I can get is 14fps. Not cool, unplayable. Fallout 4 used to run well into the 40's. Not sure what to do, any help would be appreciated.

Greetings, everyone! Last month I got a new desktop, which HDD is a Western Caviar Blue of 1TB. Everything works fine with it, except that while I use After Effects or render with Sony Vegas, the disk usage goes up to 100% in the task manager. Here's a few things I've tried so far: - Disabled Superfetch & Windows Search - Disabled BITS - Ran chkdsk on Command Prompt None of these seem to have worked, though again, the 100% usage only happens while using After Effects and while rendering with Sony Vegas (at 1080p60). My specs are: - Intel i5-6500 Quad-Core 3.2GHz - Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB DDR4-2400MHz - MSI Z170 PRO GAMING CARBON - MSI GTX 1060 Armor V1 3GB - Western Caviar Blue 1TB 7200RPM HDD What do you think might be causing this? It's very annoying because while I use After Effects I can barely do anything else on my computer and when rendering with Sony Vegas, my computer goes unusable. It's bothering especially because I know for a fact that with these specs, the computer can multi task just fine. Thank you in advance, - Nervly

Hey guys i really need help as i can't figure out what is going wrong with my system, so loading games stable is near impossible at all even on low settings which i should be able to run the games at high due to graphics card i have, for example assassins creed origins impossible to run every two steps my character takes the game then goes into loading and have to wait and carry on over and over. And notice that any game running cpu is at max usage on all cores, however temps are quite low usually 40c to 50c have check thermal paste and cleaned and applied brand new paste so no its not over heating issue. I have: * msi b350m gaming pro mobo fully updated bios * ryzen 3 2200g with wraith cooler(stock settings not over clocked) * sapphire nitro + Radeon rx 580 (stock settings) (and monitors both plugged into this not mobo and apu turned off in bios) * crucial ddr 4 8gb single at 2400mhz (i think it could be the ram struggling with ryzen due to slower speed but not sure) * kingston 120gb ssd and then 2 seagate 500gb hdd * evga 500w bronze 80plus Have updated all drivers for all components I haven't overclocked anything incase it is the ram if it is i will then buy better ram please help as i am out of ideas thanks jay

Hello, I've been having issues with my CPU lately, My CPU is an intel core i3-540 (yes, I know it's very old) and whenever I play my games (mainly CSGO) the CPU usage seems to skyrocket to 100% in all 4 threads and it affected my FPS greatly (CSGO from 60FPS to 10-20FPS) I benchmark my other games as well and it's the same problem CPU always goes up to 100% while my GPU (GT 1030) is only at 10-15% usage. I never had this issue before when I built my PC a year ago. Another note is that the CPU thermal is at 60c at idle and I already checked if there's any demanding programs that runs in the background, there is none. and CPU 2 and CPU 4 Usage is 100% at idle. Thank you in advance for your help

What's poppin forum. So, usually I have at least some ideas as to what's going wrong with my hardware, but I'm genuinely drawing a blank here. My computer is slow on startup, and this persists for a long time afterwards. This was a sudden change. I hope you can help me identify the issue! WINDOWS VERSION IS: WINDOWS 10 PRO - VERSION 1809 - BUILD 17763.253 Here's my system spec: CPU: Ryzen 7 1700 (3.875GHz @ 1.35v) MOBO: ASRock AB350 Pro4 RAM: 16GB Crucial 2400MHz (2733MHz @1.42v) GPU: Powercolor RX 580 8GB Red Devil CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Masterliquid 240 SSD: WD Blue 250GB M.2 2280 HDD 1: WD Black 1TB 7200RPM 3.5" HDD 2: WD Blue 1TB 5400RPM 2.5" PSU: Cooler Master 550W Elite V2 Case: Corsair 270R Issue: So let me describe in a little more detail. Before this occurred, I could boot up my computer, and do everything at lighting pace and my CPU usage would match the workload being put on it. So for example, booting into Windows wouldn't cause immense pressure, and browsing the web was pretty light, gaming was a good way to push the system usage, video editing/encoding would also push the CPU to it's limits. Normal behavior; you ask the CPU to do something, and it will operate according to the task it is assigned. The issue now is that I boot into the system, and it would seem that my CPU is pegged at 99% usage. And it is SO SLOW that even the cursor follows behind my actual mouse movements, it's jelly like. Opening up Task Manager is a 50/50 because it crashes half the time, and I barely got into the settings menu to see the build of Windows that I'm on. Context: I always put my computer to sleep rather than shutting it down, so yesterday I woke it back up because I wanted to try out Chrome Remote Desktop from my laptop to control my desktop (the system in question). So after waking up the system, I went over to my laptop and ran Chrome Remote Desktop. I did a couple of basic things on my Desktop (via my laptop); open up the web on my desktop, look at the file explorer, just mild stuff. So after I was done confirming that remote desktop worked properly, I went to open up the "Sleep" dialogue in the start menu on my desktop. This is when the Chrome Remote Desktop connection got very slow & choppy (I'm thinking it may have been my actual desktop). The desktop did however go into sleep mode. So later in the day, I go to wake up my desktop, only to find it acting funny. The login screen is somewhat unresponsive, and it takes me a little longer to type my pin in to login. I reach the desktop screen, only to be surprised by how slow everything has become. Task Manager is incredibly slow and sensitive, and doesn't refresh very often (like once every minute), but for what it's worth, I didn't see CPU usage drop below 99%. The system has been on for the past little while, and it's still acting the same. Slow, unresponsive and it sucks because I can't determine what's up. I've restarted the system one time through, and no change. Additional Information: I've had issues in the past with Ryzen overclocks, wherein you can set a frequency in BIOS, but in reality it you're actual frequency is much lower (for example 3.9GHz in BIOS but in reality you're running at 1.7GHz), and HWInfo64 can confirm that this IS NOT the case, it reads frequency @ ≈ 3.875GHz. Again according to HWInfo64, the system IS NOT overheating, the highest temp I saw TCtrl get to was 51°C. I tried to run JRT (Junkware Removal Tool), for the purpose of nuking any unnecessary processes, and that didn't seem to do much, still slow and unresponsive. While it would appear that JRT did manage to kill background processes, strangely enough it couldn't complete the system sweep, it crashed at the last phase. Moreover, JRT now acts sort of temperamental. Sometimes, I can just run it as per usual. Other times I'll get an error message and the program won't run. I am still somewhat skeptical about the "99% Usage" on the CPU for one reason. My PSU (the Cooler Master Elite V2), has a very sensitive fan curve. The fan will spin up audibly at very moderate load (related post I made). Task Manager reads (kinda sorta) 99% usage, but my PSU is next to silent? I'm not sure how true that 99% is. For some other Task Manager curiosities, certain processes will read at well below 10% total CPU usage, but be categorized as "Very High" power usage Also "System Interrupts" shows up in Task Manger very briefly every once and a while at 99% usage. As I'm writing this, I just witnessed a Bitdefender system scan stop working

Hi, i am facing this weird issue for 2 or 3 days now. My GPU usage shoots up 100% with 60-63 degree temp if my PC remains idle for 10 to 15 minutes. It so happens. if there is some music playing in Youtube after a while GPU hits 100% and my pc unable to continue playing it. This thing only happens when the PC is in Idle state. while Idle, GPU usage 100%, Temp 60-63 degrees, when i do the following things, immediately GPU usage goes down to 3 or 4% and temp gradually goes down to ~33 degrees. - Move the mouse, it stutters and behaves very laggy for 2 or 3 seconds then every thing seems to go back to normal. - If i keep my "Task manager">processes panel open (to check which process is taking up the GPU) this issue never happens, no matter how long i keep the PC idle. - While i am playing games (well, PC does not go idle at that point so this does not happen, at least i did not notice any significant frame drop while playing) - If i disconnect my internet from my PC and keep it idle, this 100 % GPU usage does not happen (this is what scars me actually) Is it something to do with cryptominig malware? any idea how to fix this issue. Currently i am using : RTX 2080 graphics card and i7 8700k processor. Thanks in advance.

Hello, I've just got a Radeon RX 580 to replace a broken card. I used MSI Afterburner to check it was working properly and that I'd installed it correctly. I noticed that it's at 100% when in game (except in menus) Is this normal? The temperature seems fine, at least in the short stretches of time I've tested it (about 60-70 C). I've tested it briefly in "Red Faction Guerrilla" and "Shadow warrior 2" My PC specs are: Radeon RX 580 i5-4690 3.5Ghz Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard 8Gb RAM Windows 10 any help is appreciated

So I had the i5 3470 and the gtx 1050ti msi gaming X and 16gb ram.Started to get some stuttering and high cpu usage on default graphics settings mostly very high.Usually 60FPS all the time, temps are normal.. oonly gpu usage is lower than usual and because of the 100% cpu usage i got the stuttering and a few fps drops.Switch my MOBO CPU and RAM to the i3 8100 and 8gb RAM and the issues persists.Ive seen videos on youtube about the setup and it runs GTA V very nice. This is what I got. FPS is lower because was recording it with the msi afterburner.Hopefully can get it fixed. https://ibb.co/eDx9up https://ibb.co/h3saZp Here are the results:3d mark: https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/28552492? comparing results: https://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/16348378/fs/14395606/fs/16305612/fs/14419105 log link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1w8R7yBApEXYTBMJyzbnzBbd1bM0-YXN_ GTA V LOG : https://drive.google.com/file/d/17Cc9sOome2pIwgaA2MHS2BY1CG0T2InA/view?usp=sharing HWinfo prints: https://ibb.co/fGMT5U https://ibb.co/cYneC9 https://ibb.co/jeNUC9 https://ibb.co/bDOEep https://ibb.co/e5md5U

I have an issue when i play basically any game (Arma 3, Dirt 4, Fortnite, The Forest, and Warhammer....) where i either have bad lag spikes or cant reach more than 50 frames. When i view my task manager performance page i'm at 100% gpu usage. In the details of the of my GPU my copy, video encode, video decode are around 1% and my dedicated GPU usage goes to about half of the 8.0 total GB; but under 3D im at 100% usage. Ive updated drivers and still have the same problem. Any ideas??? Computer Specs Intel i7-8700k Asus Prime z370-A Mother board 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX MSI GTX 1080

i5 7300hq occasionally jumps to 100% usage?
VortexR posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Okay so here is how it goes. Ive bought a new laptop like 2 weeks ago(i will list the full specs below). It has an i5-7300hq and a 1050ti 4gb, the problem is i realize my cpu usage jumps to 100% like 4 times during a 1 hour gaming session. It will also sometime spike when im just opening chrome. I checked the cpu usage using task manager and i also realized my gpu usage is at normal levels below 70% so im quite sure the 4gb vram is enough. I experience the spikes even when i only open discord and spotify while playing games. So the question is whats causing my cpu to spike?is it the temperature throttling or something else? Thanks (games i usually play are rocket league, Dota2 and warframe) Edit : I thought i should also mention that im using the laptop always plugged without the battery. I didnt want to spoil the battery since im not going anywhere with this laptop soon. Thunderobot 911 SE i5-7300hq Gtx 1050ti 4gb 8gb ddr4 ram 128gb ssd 1tb hdd Link to laptop website (im using the i5-7300hq model) http://thunderobot.com/en/product/911SE.html -
I have a 980Ti Founders addition, and when I started my computer today, when ingame I get instead of 200+ FPS I'm getting 40-30, the usage is 100% and my fan goes insane. http://prntscr.com/jgch87 This is usage on idle, http://prntscr.com/jgcl0l This is the GPU usage on Rainbow Six Siege, and the GPU fan would still be going crazy. I usually get 130 frames but in that screenshot u can see, I get 23. I've heard it could be a broken GPU but I don't believe so because it only goes crazy when ingame, and the second I tab out of the game the usage goes to 1%. Any suggestions or fixes? Heres all the MSI Afterburner info I could get, im pretty sure the spikes are inbetween me tabbing in and out to get screenshots http://prntscr.com/jgcmx5 http://prntscr.com/jgcn9h http://prntscr.com/jgcndb

For about a month now i have been experiences lower than usual fps in games like rocket league and pubg. I looked at my GPU usage in the task manager and for some reason its always at or around 100% usage. I have a strix gtx 1080 as well as a 4790k cpu which should be enough to run games without 100% usage. My freind has the same gpu and he said his never hits 100% when playing along side me. Not sure if my card is bad or if something is sucking up all of the GPU. If you guys have any suggestions it would help a lot. Thanks

I have a Ryzen 5 1400 cpu. No matter what, it's always at 100% usage. According to McAfee AntiVirus Plus, I don't have any problems. I will run another scan today to double check. Please help, as it's making my CPU constantly run at 100% and I don't want it's lifespan to decrease. Look at the replies to see the problem I'm now facing.

Hey, Arround a year ago I build my first pc using a second hand RX580 8gb gpu. The card works fine most of the time, but after every few restarts (ussually after 2 or 3) the gpu usage is way up. I only notice when in game as my frame rate is capped at arround 60-70fps (Fortnite) with 100% gpu usage, where normally I run at 144fps at arround 40-70% usage. The only sulotion that works so far is unintalling the driver and let it reinstall itself (updating the driver doesnt work). This only takes a minute and everything works perfectly for a couple days. But the problem keeps coming back after two or three restarts. I've tried updating or rolling back the drivers multiple times with different versions. I tried completely uninstalling the driver and downloading it again. The card was originally used in a crypto mining rig, so I downloaded mutiple tools and software to remove or look for any problems there. Nothing seems to find or permanently fix the problem. I tried some "gpu usage at 100%" solutions from different forums or videos, but with no succes as the problem keeps reccurring. System: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core 3.40 GHz (Second Hand) GPU: Gigabyte Radeon RX580 8gb (Second Hand) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB(2x8) DDR4 3000MHz Mobo: MSI B450 Tomahawk PSU: Cooler Master MWE Bronze 550 HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3.5" 2TB SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 2.5" 500GB Case: NZXT H500 I use my PC mainly for fps gaming and some graphic design (Photoshop and Illlustrator) Also for Vectorworks every now and then. (This is simular to AutoCAD) I've had this issue for a almost a year now and still havent found anyone with a simular problem or solution so hopefully i'll find it here.

So as the title says randomly my disk usage will go up to 100% and this really slows things down whenever it does it. For an example whenever I'm trying to play a game it will drop the FPS a tremendous amount. Any tips or fixes will be greatly appreciated. Oh an btw it didn't start doing thing until I installed my new Motherboard and CPU but I made 100% sure I put it in the correct port and everything.

I don't know whats going on, but my CPU is hovering between 60% and 100% specs are in my sig this is my task manager, Why is razer synapse using so much of the CPU?
