EDIT: a follow up question: ppl with predator x34's: do you think that 100Hz panel is enough for competitive shooters like CS:GO? Have you had problems with hud scaling while gaming? If you have had IPS non gaming panels: is the color reproduction on the x34 as good as a "normal" IPS panel or does it miss something (measurement by eye, I can find the numbers in da internets) Sup peeps! (Small note: I'm looking for experience from both sides of the fence so sorry to say but commenting like: "I dream of ultrawide so buy it" isn't really helpful, but if you have valid arguments with reasoning for either side of the fence, feel free to share your thoughts.) So everything else is set in my upcoming rig: The specs (I7 6700k, 980 Ti, 16Gb 3000Mhz DDR4, 512gb NVMe SSD, 8TB RAID 6 NAS enclosure and other various bits and pieces), theme color has been chosen (love my nvidia green), ways to mod my case to suit my needs... BUT just yesterday I spotted the ASUS PG348Q 3440x1440 G-sync ultrawide. Earlier I had my mind set on PG279Q but now I'm at a loss. I game quite a lot on my free time; CS GO, BL 2, new triple A titles, pretty much every category of games. In a normal work week I clock about 25-35 hours minimum into games. On the other hand I'm a semi pro photographer so a good IPS panel Is a must to guarantee the quality of the end result. My editing workflow can't be the weak link here. This gear will actually produce me income so in a way I can't just go with my heart and buy the 279Q without thinking this through. Some would say that then why not just buy 2 monitors with 1 being IPS ultrawide and another one 144Hz gaming monitor. Although I could muster up the needed moolah with couple extra months of working, the matter of the fact is that I simply don't have the desk space for 2 big monitors so it's either or. Before this I've had this HORRIBLE Benq G2222HDL 21,5' TN panel so either one of these monitors will be a HUGE upgrade, but I've read so many articles praising ultrawide that now I'm wondering if I'm willing to spend 550€ (about $600 USD) extra on a format that I've never experienced with my own eyes let alone done gaming with it. 16:9 would be a safe bet and as the screen real estate would grow more than 75%, it makes me wonder whether I really do need EVEN MOAR pixels. Keep in mind that I have never experienced the high end gaming monitor features like 120/144/165Hz, g-sync, ULMB or anything other worth mentioning so on my mind I'm hungry to see what it's truly like to sit in front of a good gaming monitor. On a side note the 348Q is rumored to have the same panel as the X34 predator so there is a monitor where you can compare it in terms of the actual panel quality. So what I would like to know from anyone who has experience with WQHD (so 2560x1440) and 21:9 3440x1440 curved in both gaming and professional work; What would you take into account when choosing a monitor besides the info that I've given you? How does Adobe's Lightroom and Photoshop scale in ultrawide? Does the extra screen real estate add truly mindblowing satisfaction to your workflow? How about gaming performance; is it distracting with the black bars? Is the jump from 100Hz to 165Hz worth it to give up some pixels and a curved screen? And not forgetting games that support 21:9: does your willy do the happy dance hard enough to pay the extra 550€ ($600 USD) for the experience? Would you rather have 165Hz WQHD G-sync IPS panel or 21:9 3440x1440 G-sync IPS panel when gaming? The post became longer than I thought so sorry for the long read but I wanted to get as many details that effect my decision making. Also thanks already for your thought on the matter.

Hi, so I might get a new monitor soon, and I'd have about 250 dollars to buy it. I'm looking towards a 1440p monitor, as the cheaper ones of those costs around that much. I have a gtx 970 as my gpu so it should run it fine at 60 fps. What is a good buy? I am currently looking at http://www.amazon.com/Acer-G257HU-smidpx-25-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00QS0AKVK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1447363654&sr=8-2&keywords=2560x1440+acer My needs: Preferences: 1440p 7 ms> delay 24 in. < decent quality (duh) LED-lit IPS display I don't really care about higher refresh rate as it doesn't make a huge difference above 60 hz and my gpu probably won't be able to drive it at that high. What is a good deal? Also I don't want 4k, and 2560x1080 might be fine, but then I'd prefer a higher refresh rate.

Hi there, I am looking at the G270HU vs G277HU. Fundamentally the difference between them is one is IPS with slower response time and the other TN, better colour yada yada. I viewed a G277HU in the flesh and the picture looks pretty good, but have reservations based on your advice about TN vs IPS. I have to say the viewing angles looked pretty good compared to my current old 22" TN that is well past its sell by date. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have a very old and cheap 23in 16:9 TN (most terrible TN in the world ) 1080p monitor (I guess a tv) and an old 5:4 1024p 17in TN secondary monitor. So I'm going to upgrade my main monitor to a new one in a couple months because the color reproduction is so bad you can't believe. (I rearranged my layout in Photoshop and Premiere Pro so that the color stuff (e.g. the preview window) is on my small secondary screen because on this the colors are just ok) But I can't decide between two screens the Asus VX24AH and the LG 29UM57-P. Basic information: My setup: I'm doing light to mid gaming, creating animations, photo editing and sometimes video editing (going to increase in the next time). So I want an IPS screen . I know going to IPS is great as well as going from 1080p to 1440p or ultrawide. Does anyone of you have one of these screens ? Do you have any recommendations for a monitor in this price range ?

Did anyone enter the recent UW Fest cardboard contest and not win? Explain youre video because I dont understand how they selected the winners. The rules were: Create a dream setup, use any material, (get lots of views or publicity) In which I got 600+ views, made a pc & monitor out of cake, and was beat by a kid that got 80 views and another that had 24 likes in a tweet. I know I used cake and heavens forbid its not cardboard but it states any material in the rules, and since the last contest where Linus said make it 30 seconds and a good amount of people had a full length documentary I thought I would be a contestant to win. Its unique unlike every other cardboard one. I obviously dont take losing well, and no one should. Ive messaged LG and the contest page and am ggeting no response like I figured, its really depressing to try for gold and get nothing. My entry: Also another contestant that entered felt the same way, he got 15 likes on twitter and 500 views, yet was beaten. Ive been following him since he approached me saying mine was very different compared to everyone else. He's been trying to contact them to get some type of answer on why were some vids so low in views and still won.

I want to have a good gaming experience in an UW-QHD curved monitor, and I would like to know the best PC build (preferably up to $2000) for that. My PC specs are: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler Asus X99-PRO/USB 3.1 ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Transcend SSD370 512GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card Corsair Vengeance C70 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case Corsair 750W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply My biggest concern is about the video card. If anyone has good tips, please tell me!

A new Dell monitor, called P2416D, was found on some of Dell’s regional websites. It is the first P series monitor from Dell featuring a 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution. It has a 23.8" AHVA panel from AU Optronics ( M238DAN01.0 ), housed in the same chassis as the P2415Q (according to pcmonitors.info's article). Since it is a P ( "Professional" ) Series monitor, it has less features than the high-end Ultrasharp series monitor U2515H, and it is slightly cheaper than that. The P2416D it has a list price of HKD $2,999 and CNY $2,799 on Dell's Hong Kong and China sites, which is around $386 and $450, and it is slightly cheaper than the U2515H, which has a list price of HKD $3,589 and CNY $4,559 respectively, which is around $462 and $515. I have yet to find the street price of this monitor in Hong Kong. Also pricing in Hong Kong and China doesn't reflect pricing in the States, or in other countries. https://pcmonitors.info/dell/dell-p2416d-featuring-a-wqhd-resolution/ Product page on Dell's Hong Kong site http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=hk&cs=hkdhs1&l=en&s=dhs&sku=391-BCCQ&redirect=1 Product page on Dell's China site http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=cn&cs=cnbsd1&l=zh&s=bsd&sku=391-BCCM&redirect=1

I'm looking at buying 3 27" 2560 x 1440 monitors for my new rig I'm building. I have not decided 100% if I'm buying 980TI SLI or *NEW AMD Xfire (Probably start with 2 and get a 3rd if needed). I see today the Acer XG270HU is $50 off but its only for today $450). I like the thin perimeter. There is some other nice stuff too. It is a freesync monitor but that has bad reviews and fails to work on surround video, or below 40 fps but its also a free feature. This makes me not feel bad to use it with 980 TI's. Basically my question is 3 parts. 1) first does anyone recommend this monitor or vote to avoid it. 2) is G-sync worth $900 (300X3 monitors) extra? (the big brother Acer XB270HU seems nice but its $750 each) 3) is there a better value/price monitor out there. Im on a loose budget but I want to get my money's worth as its 3x the cost for 3x the monitors and the new case is already high in costs. FYI My Build so far

I've been looking to add a monitor to my current setup, but i'm kind of torn between a few monitors. I have around 500 CAD to spend, and I am torn between two things... Refresh rate and resolution. The only way I can have both with my budget is the Acer XG270HU, which is a freesync 1440p 144hz monitor. I don't have the extra money to get a swift or a predator, nor do I have an AMD graphics card. Is 1440p 144hz worth getting even without freesync? or should I just choose between a 4k monitor or a 1080 144hz one? I've been trying to make a decision for months now, so please leave your best suggestion down below. Thanks!

Hey guys, Just wanted an opinion on GPUs. Currently am buidling a rig for 1440p gaming for 1-2 years and am facing a dilemma , I have two options : 1 : Single GTX 980 with a 550W PSU. 2. Single GTX 970 with a 760W PSU (with plans to sli in the near future). Which do you think is the better option considering issues with sli in many games. Thanks in advance...

Picking up a LG 34UM95 ultra wide screen (3440x1440) 21:9 Wondering if anyone out there that has one would care to share their thoughts on it... but specifically looking for recommendations on a new stand. I doubt they make one that is big enough to actually get that size of a screen vertical - but that would be cool. Thoughts?

I want to upgrade my 1080p monitor to a higher resoultion. I have a GTX 670 graphics card and am planning to upgrade depending on the Radeon 9970/R9 i970's performance. Requirements : I want this monitor to be able to be mounted on my wall using standard 100mm vesa mounts. So i do not care about the stand, unless it cannot be removed. It needs to be IPS/PLS. TN panels are no good! I'd like to have a matte screen as well because I play in the light. Extras : It would be great if the monitor had speakers. It would be great if the monitor was also thin so it wouldn't bulge off the wall. Speakers (I know they would most likely be low quality) *Also, would these work if I was using the DVI-D interface? I know some can overclock too... Any response time ~8ms should be fine because I'm not a twitch fps gamer or anything. Matte bezel If I can't decide I'll make a poll, like it one of my "Who wants to be a Millionaire" lifelines :P Thanks, I've heard great things about higher resolution screens and am personally looking forward to it :P (bad pun?)

So engadget are reporting that Acer will be releasing a 27 inch touch display for about £675. Sounds good doesn't it? Wait, there's more. It's WQHD. Yes, it's 2560 x 1440. Did I mention it's touch as well? So for not much more than the cheapo, warrenteeless Korean 2560 x 1440 monitor I'm looking at at the moment, you can have a legitimate Acer touch display. I think it's good news that we're finally getting some higher resolution displays at reasonable prices as we move on towards 4k. http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/02/acer-27-inch-wqhd-touch-display/ A search for acer, 27 inch, wqhd returned 0 results.

Can anybody explain to me what WQHD, QHD and UHD are.

Hi, I currently own a Samsung syncmaster 244t that has a resolution of 1920x1200, so an aspect ratio of 16:10. I'm quite pleased about this format which seems natural to me. Before that I owned a cheap 4:3 19'' monitor. I think the 16:10 ratio is a nice balance between gaming and normal use (browsing web, watching videos, ...), which is what I primarily do on my system. I am thinking of buying a 24'' korean 2560x1440 monitor. Reviews and threads on models such as the QNix QX2710 and X-Star DP2710 have me craving the switch. That price range also makes it possible for me. However, I've ran into a few doubts considering what to go with. 1- These korean names seem to only be 1440p monitors. Are they also made in 1600p formats ? 2- If I go with a 1440p monitor, is the switch to a 16:9 ratio a big deal to get used to ? 3- On the downside, a 1600p monitor means going with a 30'', which seems HUGE to me (27'' already frightens me). Sitting 2 1/2' to 3' away from that might be tiring, will it not ? 4- The maximal bandwidth for a DL-DVI output is 2560x1600 at 60hz (which equals 66.7Hz for 1440p). Considering some korean monitors I'm interested in (and maybe other more popular ones) overclock fairly well and only have DL-DVI connectivity, doesn't that make overclocking them completely useless ? Thanks for the input. Edit: 5- Also, what's the damn difference between PLS, IPS, SIPS, IPS-B, and whatever else

As always if this a repost (i searched for a while) mods do your work =).. So Japan Display showed of a few displays to be used in future smarphones. Link provided: http://us.hardware.info/news/37623/japan-display-introduces-two-wqhd-panels-for-high-end-smartphones Also a few quotes Myself I don't know how I feel about this, I'm afraid that at increasingly higher resolutions, but the screens remaining about the same dimensions things like text and icons might look awfull.. But I haven't even tried a full HD screen so I'm not sure.
