  1. my 3070 is almost dead i get severe frame drops even in league of legends i tried everything except reapply thermal paste i use my pc for gaming , video editing with davinci resolve and stable diffusion so i am not sure if i need to stick with NVIDIA (even if i don't agree with the price increse) or i can go with an AMD video card? i have a beget of 800 to 1000 euro max what video card should i get for my PC? Thanks in advance
  2. Okay so my setup is a msi 3060 12gb gpu with an amd ryzen 5 7600x and 32gb 6000mhz ram (corsair) I'm using a 750watt psu and I have 4 fans (+fan for processor) First boot i did and it didnt boot (i get 1 long 2 short beeps) so I remove my ram and start troubleshooting 1 by 1. Turns out both my ram is just fine and the slots is fine (if I put in A1 or B1 i get the same beep come but in A2 B2 it works fine). I can boot my pc and get video signal if I have only 1 ram in one of the slots A2/B2. However when I insert both my ram in A2 and B2 i get a new beep code (1 long 3 short) and that means video card problems. Things I've tried (troubleshooting ram and they are fine and the slots are working. I tried using the gpu in PCIe slot 2 and 3 and that still doesn't work. What could be the problem? Is my mobo damaged or my gpu? Remember i do get video signal when only using 1 ram stick
  3. Purchased a used GALAX 3060 ti from eBay, which claimed to be fully tested - and multiple items had been sold (from the same listing). There are no other mentions in the feedback about this item catching on fire. I did clean the GPU PCIE connection area with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol - and waited at least 5 minutes (but I am not sure of the exact time). As soon as the system powered-on, everything started smoking heavily. I held down the Power Button to turn everything off, but even in that small amount of time there was a significant amount of smoke in the room. Basically, I am trying to figure out whose fault this is - Is it possible that the Isopropyl Alcohol had not completely dried, and this is my error? Or is it more likely that the video card itself was already defective?
  4. I am at a loss, currently I have 2 and machines with the exact same problem. One machine is a 3600 CPU / strix b450 with a 5600x graphics card, the other is a 1600x / x370 with a sapphire rx580. Both have the same issue when the "any" ssd drive is connected the video card shuts down, when the ssd drives are disconnected it boots right up to bios. Any ideas, I have changed out 4 different drives, power supplies and the video cards. Motherboard posts.
  5. Hello, I was wondering what video card should i get? I dont want to spend more than $150. I am not a big gamer, in fact i rarely even play games. My main concern is the ability to watch 4K movies, (not games i know there is a big difference in what you need for 4K games vs just 4K movies)Im fine with older and cheaper models i dont need cutting edge just something to get me started. Any suggestions? My new build will look somthing like this: Ryzen 3600 Crucial 16GB Ballistix RGB DDR4 3600 MH - 2 8GB kit ASRock X570 PG Velocita ATX https://pcpartpicker.com/product/TtPgXL/asrock-x570-pg-velocita-atx-am4-motherboard-x570-pg-velocita https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1548861-REG/crucial_bl2k8g36c16u4bl_ballistix_rgb_16gb_8x2_3600.html
  6. Hi guys, I am new to the forum so I am really sorry if I put this in the wrong category or area or whatever. I am a broke guy who loves tech and am currently setting up an i5-2400 Test bench. The GPU I was going to use was a MSI Aero ITX GTX 1050 TI and worked yesterday (3/11) but now when I try to turn on my system it constantly clicks and won't display an output. I tried the test bench and my main system, 2 different PSUs (both 600w so enough power) HDMI and DP, and it still won't work. The i5-2400 System boots with the iGPU but if I put the 1050 TI in it just starts clicking again. Is there anything I can do to try to save the 1050 TI or is it dead for good? I really don't know how this could have happened as I handled it very carefully and haven't like deshrouded it or anything so IDK why its doing this, if you have any ideas or tips for me I'd much appreciate it. Thanks!
  7. Just bought a used 1650 super but it didn’t come in esd bag just the styrofoam and box. Is the styrofoam conductive? Is it safe to package a GPU this way?
  8. So my main computer started having trouble and it seems like it might be the video card so, feeling sure that I had an old video card my dad gave me when he upgraded a bit ago sitting around here that I thought worked, I figured I'd just swap it in to see if that was the problem (considering current pricing of things) only to discover upon digging it out that the card I remembered having is...older than I thought. Old enough that its not on PC Part Picker for me to look up whether its compatible with the motherboard I have. My knowledge of hardware is scant at best and when it comes to this card, which is almost as old as me, basically nonexistent, so, slightly odd/possibly dumb question but is it even worth trying to plug in a Matrox Millennium II from around 1997 to my Asus Z97-A motherboard to see if the issue was the video card or should I give in and take it to a shop where they likely have newer cards or something they can test with. I'm not even sure the card will plug in physically because its so much smaller than the current card in there. I haven't actually tried slotting it in because I noticed the massive size and age difference between my card and the old card I had laying around as soon as I found it in my old computer bits cabinet so I haven't bothered with the always hard to unfasten thumbscrews my video card is held in by. TLDR: Will a Matrox Millenium II video card plug into an ASUS Z97-A motherboard at all? Will it run in any fashion at all, sufficient to seeing if my (much) newer video card is the problem?
  9. Hi all! I had the misfortune of getting a GPU from AliExpress that seems to be fake. I was devastated at first but I'm not the type to fully give up and am the type to be very curious. So I embarked on a journey to discover how those scammers work and just wanted to figure things out. After many weeks of much trial and error, watching YouTube videos and much research, I still can't figure this out, so I'm appealing for help. Here's what I got. I bought what they claimed was a GTX 970. Once finding out it's not, I went on to find out what I thought was a GTX 550ti. I was wrong. I think it's a GTS 450. There are 4 VRAM chips. Each are 1Gb, or 128MB. So this must be a 512MB card. The GPU has GF106 written on it. There rest is mostly crossed out to hide the true GPU variant, but I think it's the GF106-110-KA-A1. This confirms it's a GTS 450. At first I thought it was a 1GB card, but anyway, upon going to techpowerup (https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?architecture=NVIDIA&manufacturer=&model=GTS+450&version=&interface=&memType=GDDR5&memSize=512&since=) to find a viable BIOS, only 1 match came up: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/108773/palit-gts450-512-110121 It didn't work. Windows freezes on load (the twirly circles) and sometimes it has graphical artifacts (blue/purple lines). Safe mode works fine. If I load up Windows with disabled signed drivers, Windows loads up, but GPU-Z reports the GPU is just the Microsoft Basic Video Adapter, and nothing can be done to get drivers for it. I tried other BIOS ROMs too (other GTS 450), but I get similar results. What can I do?I don't want to give up getting this card to work! Thanks for helping!!
  10. Hello all, After more years than I care to mention, my PC is getting ready to join that processor in the sky, so I'm in the process of putting a new one together. I'm an Art Director at one of the local TV stations here, so the machine will be used for a little gaming, but it's real purpose in life will be as a graphics/3D machine; (mainly Photoshop, After Effects and Cinema 4D; mainly in HD, but I want to start designing all of our opens, animations, lower thirds and all in 4k, then render down to HD) which makes having a decent video card of some import With the prices of GPUs being way out of the grasp of most mortal humans, (I'll be using it at home, so the station isn't paying for anything...cretins, besides, I'll be retiring soon, so there's that) I started playing with the idea of picking up a refurbished card. I know better than to trust some place like "Bob's internet House of PC's" (okay that place doesn't exist, but you get the idea). What I'm wondering is, is it a good idea to find a refurbished card from a reputable place, like New Egg, Micro Center, or a place like that? Being a retail store, I'm not sure if what I might save would be worth the potential hassle, but at least with these places, they have easy return policies. What do y'all think? Any of your ideas or suggestions would be deeply appreciated That being said, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, and the happiest of holidays. Rick
  11. I wish to buy an AIO water cooler for my XFX R9 390X 8GB double dissipation graphics card. But I don't know which exact model I have. Looking at the EKWB water cooler website, they provide the following options (see picture). The other picture is the picture of the tag on the back of the gpu. Could someone help me identify which of the options on the ekwb site, is applicable to my card?
  12. I am trying to add an external video card to my Windows 10 laptop to drive a larger monitor with greater resolution than that that is integrated with the laptop. I've followed the instructions in one of Linus's videos, but it's still not working for me. Can anyone help? Following is exactly what I did. I opened up the laptop, and found the M.2 socket. It was occupied by the laptop's WiFi antennae. So, I removed the antenna, and replaced it with an outboard, USB-attached antennae. The new antennae works fine. My WiFi connection is even better than it had been. I then plugged an M.2-to-USB adapter into the now-free M.2 socket. I then connected that to my external video card -- an admittedly legacy AMD Radeon HD 5450 -- using a USB cable, and I connected that card to my outboard monitor using an HDMI cable. I installed the appropriate drivers for the video card. They are visible in Device Manager. I have a power supply driving the card and the M.2-to-USB adapter. Both bear LED indicators, and those are lit, so they are definitely getting power. Unfortunately, this configuration results in no response whatsoever from the monitor. Seems like I'm missing something. Any help?
  13. In an age where people will fight over even the chance to get a video card, does it really matter how one performs or what it costs? And is the 3070 Ti even any good? Buy NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti (PAID LINK): Coming soon Buy NVIDIA RTX 3080 (PAID LINK): https://geni.us/Si8kya
  14. Hi All, I am having issues with my MSI RTX2080 Gaming X Trio One night I was playing games and the fans started spinning at 100% after a couple of hours of games. Ever since that moment almost as soon as I start playing a game the fans spin at max. I noticed it would happen between 68 degrees to 75 degrees ‘usually’. I ran FurMark to try and replicate the issue and I couldn’t get the fans to spin loudly despite the GPU core temp being at about 73 degrees. I found this weird. After playing around with Furmark settings, I enabled Xtreme Burn-in, Post-FX and other options to increase the workload. When I ran the burn-in test, the fans did spin to 100% again but the card was running at 72 degrees. After a bit of playing around I opened GPU-Z and realised the memory was running at 105 degrees during this test. When I switched it back to the original Furmark test the memory was only at 80 degrees. I thought this was clearly the issue, so I took my card out and taken it to the place I work (where I bought the card from) and tried my card on our test bench. I ran the exact same benchmark with the same settings in my computer on the test bench, and we couldn’t get the memory to go past 80 degrees. I am lost with what I should do because we need to replicate the fault to send the card away for repair but there is no fault on the test bench. For troubleshooting I tried; Uninstalled all software that could interfere with Overclocking, fan speeds etc. (MSI Dragon Centre, Geforce Experience, Afterburner) DDU driver uninstall and reinstall using 2 older drivers. Fresh install of windows with driver and furmark. Fresh install of windows with driver (no geforce experience or internet connection) and furmark. Airflow isn’t an issue. I have a Lian Li O11D Mini case with 11x Noctua Chromax fans. 3 Intake (bottom), 4 exhaust (top & rear), 4 exhaust (side radiator push/pull). Temps for everything else is sub 65 degrees. Since all of this i have installed MSI afterburner and limited the cards power limit to 80% which let's the GPU memory reach around 90 degrees but also has a performance hit for games. Personally, I don't think I should have to handicap my card for it to function as it should but I don't know what I should do. Does anyone have an idea or has come across this before? Hello my brother get into engineering school, and looking for desktop computer, while I can source CPU, Ram PSU ect no problem, the pain always come when it choose Video card the card I manage to found is MSI GeForce RTX 3060 GAMING X 12GB DDR6 - Rp14.850.000 Colorful iGame Geforce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 Ultra W OC L-V LHR VGA - Rp14.317.000 LEADTEK NVIDIA QUADRO RTX 4000 8GB GDDR6 - Rp14.500.000 MSI RTX 2060 SUPER GAMING X 8GB GDDR6 - Rp14.000.000 there is cheaper one but it come from can't really trust based on seller rep. and yeah Geforce card is at Quadro price these days, and yes the price are terrible Should I try to snatch 3060? or I since I am getting burned by the price already should I pay quadro instead? any thought? Intended to use to some 11th Gen Intel/10th Gen Non K or Ryzen 3000/5000 system depend how much I need to spend on the card, and which one will provide best price/performance once factoring card price, but try assuming I'll go with 11700F/10700F and B560 board or so
  16. Specs: Intel i5 7500 8GB Ram GTX 1660 Super The game im referring to is Battlefield V. I used to have a GTX 1050 and my monitors native resolution is 1336x768 mainly to prioritize fps. I can run the game at around medium to high at around 50-70 fps depending on the map and how much stuff is going on my screen. I even have old footage to back this performance. I've recently upgraded to a GTX 1660 Super which i assume should be so much better than my 1050. But I can't seem to run the game past 40 fps at the lowest setting. This only applies to BFV for some bizarre reason. What could be the problem? Drivers are up to date and performance on other games are comparable to benchmarks I saw on youtube. EDIT: I forgot to mention that there's about a couple of months since the last time I played the game back in my GTX 1050, is there a possibility that a game update made the game require more performance? I played the same maps as I used to before.

Budget (including currency): 500€ Country: Slovenia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Dwarf fortress, Distant Worlds, War Thunder, Deep Rock Galactic, Hell Let Loose will be the main things i wish the get better performence out off. Other details: This all came about when a friend offered me his gtx 970 and i got to think if maybe there were some other parts that are cheapish decent upgrades for my mobo that would keep me running for the near future until i can get more funds together for a proper new build. it would be much appreciated If anyone could provide any help in regards of what parts to pick and if the idea is worthy of pursuit. Current system: CPU - Intel Core i7-920 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Processor (OC to 3GHz) CPU cooler - Intel E29477-002 Socket 1366 Copper Core/Aluminum Heat Sink & 4" Fan w/4-pin Connector up Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0) Memory - 12gb 1066MHz ddr3 random old memory Storage - Cruical MX300 500gb SSD and 500gb HDD Video Card - AMD Radeon HD 5870 vaporX 875MHz 1GB Case - Cooler Master HAF 932 Power Supply - LC8850 850W I am thinking of upgrading the CPU, Memory and Video Card. CPU - Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition 3.467 GHz 6-Core Processor (found it for 150€ on ebay refurbished) or Intel Xeon W3690 3.46GHz Six Core (used for 80€) I am not sure of the diffrence, but i read that the xeon is just a rebranded 990. I also read that one could OC them to 4+ GHz easly. If someone has more info and mabye could recomend what cooler to use. Memory - Here i have no specifics but acording to the mobo specs i could mount 6 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 24 GB of system memory 2200MHz max, again i would welcome any recomendations. Video Card - As mentioned above a friend has offered me his gtx 970 as he upgraded to the new 3090, for the low price of postage from Lithuania or maybe there are other cheap alternatives on ebay that i have not searched for. Is this a good idea to do, will the rig serve me for another couple of years if i do follow through? Or should i just buy a new mobo, cpu, and memory for 500€ and that will provide me with better performence? Thank you for any replies and sorry if there are any spelling errors.
  20. My sister just got accepted into a masters program for city and regional management. The software they use is pretty intensive and the school recommends a Quadro card. This is their recommended minimum laptop specs: Now, the RTX A6000 and A40 were just announced and I don't know if they'll be in laptops any time soon. I was looking at the RTX 5000 and RTX 6000 cards for a laptop but they're based on Turing architecture which is now already outdated. My question is is it still worth it to go with the Turing Quadro cards for her laptop or could we get away with going with a 30 series GeForce card? I know the Quadro cards are more accurate and allow for higher memory buses and error correcting. But, on a school work level, I feel like she could save some money and go with a 30 series and still be mostly okay and get a bit of a boost in power from the Ampere architecture. But, being I've never used Quadro cards, I feel like I might be wrong here and it might be worth it to stick with a last gen Quadro. Anyone have any insight on this?
  21. Hey all, it’s been a while since I’ve posted here.... I have an older PC 4790k 16gb ram a mini ITX mobo with an ACER Predator 2560 x 1080 ultra wide monitor. So my question is: what graphics card should I get to run this monitor at full? I guess I would prefer a Nvidia card only because this monitor has Gsync. Thanks in advance!!!
  22. AMD is working on GPU chiplet technology for a future GPU release, but on December 31, 2020 as the world was about to ring in the New Year, AMD submitted a new patent to the USPTO. In the new patent dated December 31, AMD outlines a chiplet design fashioned to mimic a monolithic design as closely as possible. Their hypothetical model uses two chiplets connected by a high-speed inactive interposer called a crosslink. Source 1: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/77034/amd-patent-teases-gpu-chiplet-tech-the-great-big-leap-over-nvidia/index.html Source 2: https://www.techspot.com/news/88138-amd-patents-chiplet-gpu-design-unlike-nvidia-intel.html While both Intel and NVIDIA have their iterations of chiplet-style architectures coming, AMD has already gained tons of experience using chiplet designs similar to this in Ryzen/Zen CPUs already. This technology has allowed AMD to essentially come out of nowhere from nothing, to regaining the performance crown within a few years. AMD claims that compute units can access low-level cache on other chiplets nearly as fast as they can access local low-level cache. If that's accurate, software shouldn't need any updating. This however is not the case with Intel and NVIDIA's designs. Intel is using two new technologies: Foveros and EMIB. NVIDIA describes utilizing a four-chiplet design, alongside a NUMA aware and locality aware architecture (as well as experimenting with a new L1.5 cache - that holds remote data accesses and is bypassed during local memory accesses). While AMD's method sounds the least original or extravagant, it's the most practical as recent history has proven.
  23. I bought a used gtx 770 for only 50$, but it didn't come with the bracket that screws onto the case (picture included), so theres absolutely no support putting my pci-e slot at risk for breaking. What should I do to fix this? I'm not looking to spend any money fixing this.

  25. Long story short, I'm from US and my job working abroad was cut short due to the pandemic and I'm now working back on home turf. I had a supervisor from overseas ship my PC back to me about 1 year ago and, of course, he doesn't remove the video card as requested and it went through a lot of punishment. See attached video of the issue and HW Specs at the bottom. I first discovered the plastic latch that locks the video card in place broke off after I went to reseat the card. I was happy to find that everything appeared to function properly at first, but then over time, video started stuttering and on occasion completely cut off requiring a restart. That would usually fixed the problem. My first thought as a quick fix was to simply use the 2nd PCIe slot on the MB, which is still an option, however the 2nd slot is PCIe 8x slower than the current PCIe 16x that I want to continue using for better gaming performance. Reseating the card sometimes helped, but ultimately found that applying very light pressure to the card to cause it to "sag" just a bit more, provided stable video. As you can see in attached video, lifting the card out of the "sag" position cuts off the video. Recently, something as simple as lightly bumping the table can cause the video to cut off. It's been running moderately stable for about a year, but it's now reached the point where I'm now going to take action. My motherboard selection was a bit overboard as I'm not a creator. I primarily use it as a VM lab for studying/tinkering for work (reason for high core count / memory capacity), and also for performance demanding games as time permits. I simply want to confirm this is a 100% Motherboard issue and replacing the MB will fix the problem? If the answer is yes, I planned to buy a cheaper motherboard that better suits my needs (Lab / Media Consumption / Gaming) then sell this MB on eBay as damaged of course and I would post a link to the video showing the issue with the PCIe 16x slot. Is that my best course of action? Any suggestion are welcome. MBManufacturer MBModel CPU OsName -------------- ------- --- ------ Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
