  1. I want to purchase a dock for the Razer Blade 15 (Early 2020 Advanced Model). I have tried the DELL WD19TB, only to find that the USB and ethernet wouldn't work. I tried all the drivers, even a firmware update but the PC wouldn't detect the dock to start the firmware update - even on an XPS. Having spoken to a DELL engineer whilst at work, it seems like DELL Docks (especially thunderbolt) are definitely not high up on the reliability scale - this does make sense given the amount of DELL dock issues we have had to deal with at work. I'm returning the Dell WD19TB today, and am thinking about the Lenovo 40AN0135EU - THINKPAD THUNDERBOLT 3 DOCK GEN 2 as a next attempt - we have used lenovo docks at work before and I can't think of anyone having issues with them before (granted we have never used the dock with a Razer Blade). Can someone let me know if they have tried/used this with the Razer before, and what levels of success you got with it? Before anyone asks, yes I have done the classic amazon search for "thunderbolt dock", but it seems that all the generic docks (from Elgato, Belkin, Startech, CalDigit, etc.) all either do not have sufficient display ports (I need at least 2 full size displayport ports) or do not supply sufficient power, I'm looking for at least 130W (I know that's not the full 230W that can be used to charge the Razer, but should be enough to stop it discharging when the laptop is in normal use) - trickle-charging is not a problem for me, as I will be having the laptop "docked" for 8+ hours at a time. The Razer Blade 15 Early 2020 Advanced laptop does support USB-C charging - it worked with the DELL WD19TB, and it works with my ~85W Macbook Pro charger, so that's not a worry for me. I wish that Razer would just make a TB3 dock, they're really good with build quality and I have no doubt that it would be a high class "top notch" dock. It would probably get them a lot of money too, manufacturing a device to turn a gaming laptop into a fully-fledged gaming desktop setup with a single cable. First time using this forum, make me proud fellow IT-ers!
  2. I currently have my computer in a 4RU rack case on one side of my room and my displays, keyboard, mouse and boom mic which uses USB on the other side. Instead of running multiple long cables across the room I wanted to just run one USB-C cable from my computer to a dock where I can plug in all my peripherals. Note: I have 2 x DisplayPort monitors which run at 144hz. Firstly, is there such a thing? I know Linus does this using fibre. Secondly, what product is recommended to achieve this set up?
  3. As per the title. I googled for a while but I'm not sure i understand it. Can somebody ELI5? Basically I saw my newer smartphone pulling around 8V 1.6A when charging, while older smartphone just pulling around 5V 0.8A. I attached a USB power meter over my charger and get the readings. I'm thinking of powering my IoT devices over USB 3 charging port hopefully able to pull more power for high power components like relays.
  4. Summary Set to release later this year, it's being reported by reputable leaker 52audio that the AirPods Pro 2 will feature an upgraded H1 chip, Find My support with speakers on the case to make finding your AirPods inside the case easier, heart rate detection within the earbuds themselves, & USB-C as the charging port on the case. While most of these have been reported by other sources for a while, the USB-C report is new. Quote My thoughts Obviously Apple has to switch to USB-C by Fall 2024 as per the EU mandate, but there was some debate as to if they'd make the transition for the AirPods Pro this year or later given how long it took for this upgrade to happen (especially given that the original rumors said that the Pro 2 would have Lightning). But it seems like the AirPods Pro 2 will be the first in Apple's widespread transition to USB-C. And honestly, I might upgrade from the OG AirPods that my dad gave me when he upgraded to the first AirPods Pro. Source 52audio
  5. Hi Team, I am working in a company as a Software Developer. Recently I started WFH and purchased an LG 27UP850-W monitor and want to use this as my productivity setup. The monitor contains, an USB-C, 2 USB, 2 HDMI and 1 Display port. I am using my companies laptop. My question is, I have connected Keyboard and Mouse to the available USB ports of the LG display. Now my comp. laptop has a thunderbolt port available. 1. Can I connect my laptop thunderbolt port to the USB-C of LG Display? 2. If I can connect, can I output display along with using keyboard and mouse which is connected to LG display? 3. Will my laptop be able to get charged at the same time? Please help me with this. Thanks, Harsh.
  6. Hello, this is my first post and I would like to bring some questions I would like some answers for. I just recently bought a WD Blue SN570 SSD of 250GB(the SSD don't look like the official pictures, it look like the pic in this URL). So my questions are: Does the SSD can use the full speed of any USB(A, C, Thunderbolt) port(with adapter/s) with an external enclosure like this one from Amazon? SABRENT Dual Enclosure - Thunderbolt 3 Can I use the Thunderbolt 3 cable in the enclosure and turn it in a USB-C(non-thunderbolt) cable so I can cap the maximum speed offered with that USB-C port? Can I cap this USB-C 3.2 gen 2x2 PCIe Card in speed with the enclosure of the first question? This question are for me to convert my unused SSD in some kind of multi-purpose tool for diagnosis/backup/OS installation at the same time I coul use the full speed of the device fastest port. How I'm planning of using it as multi-purpose tool? Using Ventoy so I can store diagnosis tool and isos so I can simply launch the application with out installed OS or any interfering local disk slowing my tools. ¡I'm open to suggestions!
  7. If I were to buy a 3.2 Gen 2 (SuperSpeed 20Gb/s) USB-C cable, will my USB-C dock (USB 3.1 gen 2 (SuperSpeed 10Gb/s) hardware) be able to take advantage of it? My laptop is a 4th generation ThinkPad X1 Yoga, and it's USB-C ports are Thunderbolt 3. Doesn't say what it will run in as USB.
  8. I recently got a new work laptop, and my Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse lag terribly on it, sometimes not registering input, sometimes delaying input, and sometimes registering 10 keypresses all at once. It uses the Unifying receiver through a USB-C hub that is connected to a USB input switch so I can quickly switch between the laptop and desktop. This setup worked flawlessly with the same hub on my hold laptop and on my personal desktop. Here's where it gets strange, when I plug the receiver directly into the USB-A port on the laptop, the problems seem to go away. I replaced the USB-C hub, same problem. I've tried removing the USB input switch to no effect (plus this never happens on the desktop going through the switch), it seems 100% related to the USB-C port on my laptop. Laptop is running Windows 10. Has anyone seen something like this before?
  9. With the EU closing all potential loopholes Apple could've taken to not adopt USB-C on the iPhone & the USB-C mandate fast approaching ratification, reliable Apple leaker Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed that Apple will finally cave by adopting USB-C over Lightning for the 2023 iPhones (the iPhone 15). Going portless was seemingly the original plan, but the EU closing said loophole looks to have forced Apple to reconsider in order to comply with said upcoming regulations. For reference, Kuo had originally heard that Apple would tough it out with Lightning for the foreseeable future (likely until Apple could get a portless iPhone going). Personally, I'm happy about this news. Not just because it'll guarantee faster data transfer (which is great news for those who shoot ProRes video on their pro iPhones), but also because I can finally use the same charger I use for my PS5 & Switch controllers for my iPhone. Not to mention that this will bring the iPhone more in line with the iPad & MacBooks. And given that the EU mandate specifically calls out the AirPods as well, I'd imagine that those will likely also follow suit in switching to USB-C in accordance with the aforementioned mandate. As someone who was considering getting the AirPods Pro 2, I'm more than willing to wait for the eventual USB-C AirPods Pro. Source MacRumors
  10. I was playing on my DJ Deck which is connected via USB-C to USB-C to my PC's MB on the back. After a couple of days I tried to plug it in again and its not lighting up anymore. I already looked over the Windows USB selective suspend setting but I couldnt fix it like that. If I connect my phone with the cable it charges rapidly and windows detects it so the port is active but its not giving out enough power for the Deck to run. Is there maybe a setting that I can change in the BIOS? I updated my PC inbetween the last use and now I think it changed something. I have a MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX on Windows 10 The deck works on my work laptop so I am sure that neither the deck or the USB-C cable is borken. Thanks in advance
  11. So I have a question about the USB-C connectors coming out on GPUs (notedly AMD) and have also recently broken a display port on one of my 3 monitors. Most GPUs anymore only have one HDMI and then Display ports or sometimes USB-C. This probably sounds novice but I haven't been able to find any info about this online. Can you run a USB-C dongle off the graphics card and then (provided the dongle provides support) attach multiple monitors thought that dongle and have them ran as independent displays though that single USB-C? I'm curious about this because although I don't need this 3rd monitor the cost to fix the DP on it is more than the monitor is worth, and to prevent E-waist I would like to run the HDMI port it has. I already have an HDMI (or VGA) being ran from my ONE HDMI port on my current GPU and only have 3 DP available. I was going to buy a DP to HDMI dongle but then seen some of the USB-C to 2x HDMI + DP +ton of other stuff. If anyone knows about, or can test (I don't own a GPU with USB-C out), I would be very interested. TL/DR; Is the USB-C from a GPU able to run a dongle and then have multiple displays run independent off that dongle? Keep in mind NOT USB-C FROM THE COMPUTER - this is about using the GPU
  12. Hey, Looking for advice to acheive this setep. Currently I have two spaces in my home, one for work laptop and one for personal/gaming. I want to merge into a mega desk setup. I need a hub that I can have my main desktop always plugged into, and another USB-C cable free to plug in a portabal device. And be able to toggle between the two devices, so basically like a KVM... As I have a Mac, DisplayLink technology is not really an option. The driver support is bad! Probably Apple's fault haha. Much rather native support like a simple USB Hub does. But from what have read, "Alt Mode"? is ok? I have done research, however I havent been sold on anything. Either not enogh product info, or uses DisplayLink. Work provided me with this -> https://www.wavlink.com/en_us/product/WL-UG69PD2_WL-UG69PD2_Pro.html Its fairly mediocer, half the time devices stop working after waking from sleep. And as it used DisplayLink, its a pain in the ass on Mac. Thats why I am after something more native. Just a Roided up USB-C hub basically with x2 device options I thought to make things easier, and broarden the options. I could have a Dock and KVM seperate. The USB-C output of the dock woult go into the KVM and the KVM would have x2 USB-C outputs. But I am not sure of that will start bringing in possible complication with all the passthrough. The device support is already a tall list haha. The list of peripherals USB-A KB / Mouse USB-A HeadSet USB-C WebCam DP 4k Monitor - It can go upto 144hz for gaming, but willing to hang up the cape and say goodbye to competitive FPS gaming if it means I can bring all me devices together. HDMI 1080p monitor x2 USB-C Drawing table/screen (optional) AUX Speaker (otpional) Optical cable (optional) boosts my headset quality but not required Spare USB input for randome things like game controller or thumb drive. (optional) USB-C 100w power passthrough for portable diveces (optional) Devices Battle Station - Windows Desktop Dev Laptop - Mac M1 Air Work Laptop - Lenovo Thinkpad Thanks
  13. Hey Smart people who might know the answer. I have two issues relate to thunderbolt. The first one; You see my personal computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad which have thunderbolt. When I bought it. I also got there Thunderbolt dock and it has worked perfectly for years. For some reason, after an update to the firmware by Intel. It keeps disconnecting and then reconnecting like three times in a row every hour. This is really annoying. I can't finde a solution to this and Lenovo says its a intel thing, that they don't have control over. How do I fix this? Now the second issue, the long one; At my new work i have been given an HP elitebook G5 which also have thunderbolt. This is perfect for the few time i will work from home because i can just use my normal setup, or so i thought. You see at my work. We have usb-c dock and it works perfectly even thought it is connect via the thunderbolt port in the laptop. And yes i have check it is thunderbolt, even the bios says thunderbolt. But when i connects it to my thunderbolt dock at home it will only change and connect usb device. I can't get a display output. I have try to update drivers, didn't work. So i contact HP support which just said, that their device are not compatible with any other accessories then HP accessoires. Which isn't that helpful. So i asked Lenovo which said that their dock use standart Intel firmware for comparability across device. which is true, i have never experience a thunderbolt laptop (including macbooks) not being able to connect and get an display output, except for this HP. In fact I can't even get a display output via HDMI. What's going on? Any idea to solve this? Btw i have asked the IT department at my work and they don't know what's wrong. And yes it also works with the HP thunderbolt dock. We have tested. Hope some knows the answer.
  14. Hi everyone, I recently bought a Sennheiser headset and a portable amplifier, I use a 3.5 cable to connect the headset to the amplifier, and then a USB-C cable to connect it to my phone. The short USB-C cable that was included with the amplifier became loose after a couple of days, and since then I have been on the hunt for a cable that is capable of transferring digital audio, durable and short (no more than 4-5 inches). I found one cable on amazon that is durable and short, but unfortunately, it was an analog cable, which makes it useless with my Pixel 7 pro, I asked Chat-GPT for suggestions, and it gave me multiple ones, but all the links were not working, and when I googled them I found nothing, which suggests that the items got discontinued. If anyone has any suggestions for a short, durable and digital USB-C to USB-C cable that would be great, it doesn't have to be from amazon. Thanks!!
  15. I wasn't exactly sure where this belonged but I assumed Displays as a Dock deals with displays more than anything really. So if a mod wants to move it to a more relevant thread like 100% be my guest. With that being said, my mom was setting up her new dock today, went to plug it in and it won't power her work laptop and act as a dock at the same time. It only does Dock things and no charging. It's a Dell WD15, which uses a USB-C output so in theory is should charge her laptop, seeing as the normal to charge it in the first place is a Lenovo USB-C charging cable lmao. We assume the power brick we having charging the dock just isn't carrying enough power to power both the dock and the laptop at the same time, this being because the normal charger is already a 65W charger and the power brick plugged into the dock is 65W as well. So yeah. Okay with all the back story behind now. We've given up on trying to get it to charge via USB-C and will just plug it in normally. But can we get for example a USB-C Female port to a Normal USB port Adapter, and then plug the USB-C cable into said Adapter and plug it into one of the USB ports on the Laptop and still get all the functionality of the Dock, aka a HDMI and Mini Display Port signal into the computer and access to Ethernet and USB ports on the Dock. Really my main question is will this adapter still allow the signals from the HDMI and Mini DVI to be used or will it drop this in the adapter and only give us the plugged in USB devices and none of the Display devices. ( This is the adapter we are looking at for reference https://www.amazon.com/Electop-Updated-Adapter-Converter-Charging/dp/B07Q81GD5G/ref=pd_ybh_a_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9STXPQ2A4XJM5QMK7F21 )
  16. Hey everyone! Trying to find some adapters or something alike to connect my earpods with lightning to my laptop with usb-c onboard Does anybody knows where i can find it or some tricks to do with headphones?
  17. So my girlfriend and I have the NZXT H510 case. We noticed that it came with a USB-C on the front panel, but when we try to use it, it doesn't work? I swear to God I plugged in the front panel connector to both of our motherboards when I built them. The power button and the USB-A on the front panel works fine. The USB-C on the back of both cases works perfectly. Am I missing something? I noticed there was a connector with a cap on it that came with the case when I was building the PCs, but it didn't have a label on it so I didn't know where to put it on the motherboard. 18. Okay so I am looking to buy a high refresh monitor for gaming and some work. I've already found one, but now I am looking at cable management. I currently use a Microsoft Display dock HD-500 and already know I can't use it for high refresh rates and thus must buy a DisplayPort to usb-c cable. However, I then lose the one cable solution (besides power ofc) and must plug in my peripherals every time I station my laptop (Surface Book 2 15"). Is it possible to use a usb-C splitter to attach both the screen with high refresh rate and my mouse and keyboard?
  19. In the recent ShortCircuit unboxing video on the new XPS 15 and XPS 17 laptops, I notice that the power delivery on these is 130W over USB-C. How is that possible? Isn't the max wattage on the USB-C spec 100W? Wikipedia seem to say so at least, but that's for P.D. 2.0. Is this part of a new P.D. 3.0 spec?
  20. So this is a bit of an idea I had recently... Potentially even an idea for exploration in an LTT video! I've been thinking about how it would be possible to outfit the HTC Vive (the headset I have) with USB-C instead of the included cable. Prologue: I had an opportunity a while ago to try out one of those wireless VR gaming backpack things in a store once that turns the Vive (I think it was the Vive version if I recall) into a wireless headset, and honestly... I could feel the lag vs a cable, it's just not the same. I just don't think the tech is there yet, even as impressive as all the fancy 5G or WiGig tech is... it's still not good enough. So since I'm going to be sticking to cables for now, I was trying to think of ways to take that bulky tri-cable setup and turn it into a single USB-C cable, coming straight from the headset, that goes straight intro the PC. VirtualLink is basically the failed attempt at a standard that is the reason NVIDIA puts USB-C connectors on their GPUs. It's a cool name but technically not the same thing as USB-C, it's an alt-mode. I believe the only difference to DisplayPort alt-mode is that it provides 2 DP lanes and a USB 3.2 lane instead of 1 DP lane and a USB 3.1 lane. (Though I might be wrong on the numbers there as there's conflicting info and even Wikipedia seems a little confused tbh) Point is, there's liely barely any practical performance difference between them (5Gbps vs 10 for the USB, basically irrelevant, speed does not equal latency and only the latter matters much to VR sensors), so there's no real reason to stress out about not using purpose-built USB-C based adapters. And VirtualLink-compatible hardware is practically non-existent because it's basically a failed standard. So with that out of the way, the problem we need to solve is carrying the USB 3, HDMI, and power for the headset all through a single cable. The first two are easy enough... It's the third that gets tricky. You might recall this adapter by Accell that made the headlines a little while ago, meant for adapting an Oculus Rift to using USB-C. But it only carries USB and HDMI, no power... Fine for the Rift since it can be powered by USB, but with the Vive, that barrel plug is required! The HTC Vive is powered via it's Link Box by 12VDC at 2A... Though it will work basically fine off 1A from my own testing with a bench supply. Interestingly, it also seems to work fine at 9V 2A. Additionally, a surprising fact is that the Link Box is completely optional and unnecessary! The only requirement for using the Vive without the Link Box is that your PC has Bluetooth built-in, and that you can find a female barrel jack to sacrifice that happens to be the right size! (Btw, I've actually noticed slightly better performance without the Link Box in some cases, looks like the radios in it take up some of that precious bandwidth, lol) Anyhow, that 12V power requirement is probably good news as that's a standard voltage for USB PD! So if the GPU's output port, or the USB-C port of a gaming laptop as another example, can supply 12V via USB PD then theoretically, this should be able to work. However, I have no clue if that's the case. For example the new laptop I've got (well, purchased, but it hasn't come in yet as it's a special order) lists the max wattage of the Thunderbolt 3 ports and claims to support USB PD (though doesn't say if that's for input only or both ways), but doesn't mention supported voltages anywhere. It can supply up to 15W, which would be 5V 3A or 12V 1.25A. Of course, the next problem is what to do at the other end of the cable, the headset end. That's where a USB-C hub comes in! These are easy enough to find on the cheap, and any should do as long as it's got an HDMI port and USB 3.0. Here's one for $25 for example: https://amazon.com/dp/B07QXMNF1X I have one for example with 3 USB 3.0 ports and one 4K/60Hz HDMI. I like it because it doesn't have any of that useless bloat like a bunch of 2.0 ports and a multi-card reader. Just the essentials so it's nice and compact. That said I haven't tested to ensure that it works with my headset, but I can confirm that (besides working with a phone which is what I bought it for) it works with a desktop through the USB-C port on the GPU. You can connect a display, USB 3.0 devices, and USB 2.0 devices, all at once, without a hitch. Of course that still doesn't solve our power delivery issue... For that I think the solution might be one of these! That's a USB-C PD trigger, it simply tricks the USB-C device it's connected to into supplying the correct output voltage you want... assuming that device is capable of outputting said voltage. If we set it to 12V, then connecting it to the headset should allow a 12V supply over a single cable! The only thing to watch out for would be that the hub you're using provides a USB Type-C passthrough port compatible with USB PD (up to 100W of passthrough power). That should allow the higher voltage to pass through the cable while the lower-voltage 5V is simultaneously supplied to power the hub's own USB ports! Yup that's right, two voltages at once. It really works. Isn't USB-C freakin' amazing? And that brings us to the final problem... Err, well... where the heck to find such a long USB-C cable! That I don't know, but I'm sure you could find one if you looked hard enough. Alright so I know this is a long post but I'd love thoughts on this, not so much a question but I'm hoping to incite a discussion about um... odd VR and USB-C things.
  21. Hi I couldn't find anything helpful on the web so I want to ask here. I bought an USB Hub which is connected to my laptop (MSI GL65 95E) by USB-C, link here: USB Hub. All usb 3.0 in this adapter works, but when i plug my monitor (ASUS VZ249HE Ultra-Slim) to HDMI port in this adapter, there is no display. When I plug this monitor directly into HDMI port in my laptop, it works, so HDMI cable and monitor are fine. I thought that USB Hub is broken so I got second one, but still, no display on HDMI. I tried updating drivers, not worked. I tried this hub on 3 different monitors, 2 hdmi cables, 2 laptops, but i can't get this working. Windows updates also didn't worked. Currently I am on KB4497165. I bought it to add second external monitor to my laptop, so using only HDMI port in my laptop isn't solution. On screenshot below i marked this hub with yellow highlight, just to be sure that system "see" this device and usb-c port. P.S. Sorry for bad grammar, as you can see on screenshot, english is not my main language. If something is not clear, I will try to explain it better or provide more informations.
  22. Hey, I'm planning on building my new PC which will be meant for running games (like CSGO and VALORANT) and occasional streaming. I'm "building" my PC using NZXT bld. I chose my specifications, but when it came down to picking an appropriate motherboard, I am really confused. On bld, they show you which features your PC will have (like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RGB, etc.) and it says if I pay $90 USD more, I'll have "USB-C". Because I live in Canada, I'm already paying far more than $90 for just that one feature, but also am going to have to pay $100 for shipping fees. So, what is USB-C? I've never heard of it before, nor do I know if it is worth that price. My PC is already up to $3000CAD (2.3kUSD) and I have no idea is it's worth spending the extra money for "USB-C". If some one could explain what that is i'd greatly appreciate it. I've done some google searching, and I guess it's just a USB for certain phones? I have an iPhone, so I don't even think I could use the port.
  23. I just ordered a new motherboard with a usb-c thunderbolt port. I also ordered an WQHD monitor with a USB-C input, for video input as well as enabling me to plug in my peripherals to the back of my monitor. My question is, can I continue to use the motherboard port for a display when I get a graphics card or will I have to use a display port cable for video and usb-c for peripherals? I was under the impression that a graphics card had to be used for the display out when connected. My processor has integrated Vega 8 graphics if it makes a difference.
  24. My motherboard (asus z370-f) has a usb-c connection, but what is the point of it? Because as far as I understand its not thunderbolt 3. So why even put it there?
  25. I have a XPS 13 (2016) and a Monoprice monitor, I have been trying to connect it over the USB-C interface then to HDMI on the monitor. That was not working so I updated the Thunderbolt drivers and firmware and my BIOS (as the TB firmware required a newer version), I was able to get the montior connected using a USB-C to HDMI adapter but even that is not ideal. Ideally what I want to do is have the connection go like this: USB-C --> HDMI --> DVI-D. As I only have HDMI port and DVI-D port on the monitor and the HDMI is taken by my desktop. So here's the new problem, when I attempt the connection using the chain USB-C --> HDMI --> DVI-D, both screen go black and stay black and only come back on when I unplug them (yes the monitor is on the right input), all this even after getting the latest firmwares/drivers. Any suggestions? Is it even possible (USB-C 3.1 to HDMI to DVI-D for video output)?
