Hi guys, just wanting advice on an upgrade path for longevity, as i have a few things im factoring into it, So right now I have Ryzen 7 1700 watercooled, Corsair 16GB 3200mhz in a x370 C6H and just picked up a Sapphire 7900 XTX Nitro+ Vapor (waiting for GPU block from Alphacool and new smaller res since mine is to big now) to replace the watercooled powercolor R9 390, and with using the 1700 with the 7900 XTX shows how slow the CPU is at 1080p. So my upgrade path in my mind is: 5950x or 5800X3D along with moving to a 1440p or 4k monitor then the other thing is im thinking about is should i wait for a ZEN 4 3D cache part or move to Intel for the first time in years But then i require a new waterblock, possibly a new PSU as i have a EVGA 850w, new rads maybe? I will more than likely buy new 4 pin fans as mine are 3pins on 2 lamptron fan controllers along with thinking about switching to hard tubing but not a big deal for me. I should also say that I game with music in the background (no problem for any new cpu really), play AAA games like RDR2 / GTAV, emulate old games, play squad, cities skyline and Europa Universalis 4 so i have no idea which is better more L3 cache or more cores for those specific games. Any advice / help would be appreciated, will give more details if needed (not much of a good explainer).

Hi All, (first of all I would like to point out that English is not my mother tongue. You may find some grammar mistakes in my posts. Just tell me, if something is horrible wrong. I always try to translate without any help of translating programs. Thank you mates!) Linus always points out, that anybody who is interested in PC Tech should use his forum. So here I am I am doing homeoffice because of the Corona Virus. Also all my plans (holidays, concerts, etc) are cancelled now... It looks like we even have to cancel our wedding in August... Crazy time! My friends and me are gaming a lot at the moment. Because of all this free time. And now I am thinking about upgrading my PC, as it is a few years old already. But I am not sure where to start. Maybe you are bored or interested enough to help me out My PC: Intel i7 4770 (non k) MSI Z87-G45 Gaming 2x Corsair 4 GB DDR3 1600MHz 2x 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (I had them laying around from an old workstation) Gigabyte Windforce OC GTX1070 be quiet 500W 80+ Gold Several S-ATA SSDs and one mass storage HDD Old Corsair Carbide something Case (forgot the number) The GTX1070 is the last piece I upgraded. All in all a good package I think. But I got a new Monitor in a sale some time ago. ASUS ROG PG278QR 144 Hz (165oc) WQHD is asking for more horsepower now. I don't even touch the 144 fps in the most Games at the moment. Except for Games like League of Legends of course. Metro Exodus and PUBG are more hungry for example. I "only" get around 100 fps on medium settings in PUBG. I know I know... I complain on a very high level. But now where I have this Monitor and all this free time... I want a better experience. What would you upgrade first? Would my i7 4770 bottleneck a RTX2070 (Super)? (I am bound to nvidia because of the Gsync Monitor) Would I gain more fps changing the i7 to a Ryzen? Because of faster RAM etc.? I am very interested in your thoughts Thank you. Andy

Hi I currently have an i5-4690 (none k), 16GB ram and a gtx 960 reference. I to slowly upgrade my Machine and I don’t know if I should go gpu or cpu first. I mainly game and the occasional bit of video editing for fun. I was thinking about a Ryzen 2600 or 3600 but I only have a budget of £200-£250 at the moment to upgrade. So any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi all, Looking for some thoughts on whether to upgrade from a 970 to 2060 / 5600XT or upgrade my CPU ram and mobo to Ryzen 5 platform. Due to budget constraints would it be worthwhile? My question more specifically is, at this point in time (human malware ongoing etc) to upgrade or to wait until the new chips come out in Autumn / fall with a new system entirely (cpu + gpu). Specs: 4690k OC 4400 Ghz CM hyper 212 turbo 10GB ddr3 1333 (a stick died) Asus gtx 970 (blower style) Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks

Hi i did something really really stupid, i wanted to create a "budget" pc, so i went with what the internet told me "upgrade a prebuilt". i bought an hp elite 7300 mt, with an pegatron 2ab5 motherboard. upgraded the psu to an vs650 from corsair, and purchased an RX 570 from msi. however, the motherboard is ancient, and doesn't get BIOS updates anymore, so its stuck on legacy. the RX 570 requires UEFI. so i had to exchange the gpu, which i did, for an gtx 1050 ti, since again, the internet told me it was possible. BUT IT WASN'T. trust me i tried everything, but i can't get them to work. im basically broke atm, and don't know what to do. should i wait till i have more money to buy an cheap H61/Z77 motherboard, or sell the gpu and throw in an ancient one? (the best gpu the mobo supports is gtx 680).

Current Setup case: Phanteks Eclipse P400A ATX cpu: i5-9400F mobo: Gigabyte B365M DS3H Micro ATX gpu: 1660 Super ram: 16gb monitor: 24in 1080p 144hz Would the rtx 3070 be a bad pair for my current pc? Or should I wait for the next gen cpus to drop so that the used market gets saturated with better LGA1151 cpus & boards and then get a rtx 3060 for my build?

Hello everyone, Grizzlykin over here First post on the forum, and it's because I'm wondering If I should upgrade everything or if can restrain myself to only a graphic card and wait a bit longer to upgrade the rest. The situation is my main pc is in dire need of an upgrade, my CPU wasn't the worst when I bough it but the whole system is already 5 years old. Other problem it's in my parents home in France and I'm working in poland, so I will need to get it shipped or move it myself later. The current rig is : CPU : Intel I7 - 6700, it's an 1151 socket GPU : MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G RAM : Corsair Vengeance LFX DDR4 2133 16gb MOB : MSI B 150 gaming m3 HDD : 1tb Western Digital Black + some old 500gb disk from my father's old mac I will change that one. SSD : 246gb Sata ssd but I can't remember what it was, a Kingston I think, no real need to change that one. Case : Thermaltake Versa H23, it's good enough for what I could want to do with it, don't think it needs an upgrade really (you can prove me wrong). Power Suply: LDLC QS 650+ Quality Select80 Gold+ (a french brand), and it's been serving me ok. Unless I need to upgrade it I would much rather not buy a new one. So that's the system I've been thinking of upgrading everything for a budget kinda build 800 ish euro or simply upgrading the GPU for now if the CPU is not gonna bottleneck me too hard. I'm mostly aiming for some 1080 high frame rate/high details graphism, my two monitor are 1080p one of them being a 120hz refresh rate. If i can take advantage of that, that would be great. Game I play the most are LoL, Rocket League, and some overwatch from time to time. The Witcher 3 I have yet to play is on the menu, cyberpunk is in the visor, and I do play some dirt Rally every so often. Graphic card wise I was thinking probably Nvdia 2060 super probably ? Or if I don't have to change the whole system probably push up to 2070 super maybe? So it last me longer. One thing for sure IF i'm not rebuilding the whole system i'm probably gonna buy a new cooler for the CPU because I'm rocking the base intel one and if I do rebuild this pc I will need to put the high performance profile for the memory I have not been unsing until now, and I'm pretty sure that's gonna make the damn cpu overeat with the base cooler. What are your though and opinon about this whole mess ? Any Idea? Any recomendation? Be my guest I'm all ears (or eyes in that case). Thanks in advance everyone Grizzlykin

So, when I got my PC (2 years ago) I didn't really know what I was doing, and went for the X299 Intel platform because I didn't do enough research for my specific needs (predominantly gaming) and thought "expensive = better". Over the last 2 years I've tried to educate myself a bit more and learn about the different platforms. I'd still say I'm pretty novice, hence this question. I'm now looking to upgrade my CPU, mainly for gaming performance, but also thermals as the 7740x I have runs very hot. I've been looking at the new 10th gen X series processors and they are just so expensive and I'm not sure on their gaming performance compared to other options. So my question is, is it worth me staying on X299, both in terms of performance and the platforms longevity, and upgrading. Or should I try to look at moving to something different, that'll potentially be more future proof and/or have better gaming performance? Or should I not bother with any type of upgrade at this time? Any advice on a way forward would be greatly appreciated.

please I need help, should I upgrade from a 2700x? right now I am putting it under heavy workloads, a lot of 3d work. Even rendering. Some renders take over 30 hours. the thing is that everything right now is really expensive since my currency suffered a 20% hit with this crisis, but I am thinking this might go up or down idk. the upgrade in total would cost around 640 american dollars with 32gb 3600mhz ddr4 memory. Keep in mind I have a high concentration of this type of workload and having it today may prove very useful. Hello! I currently am running a i3 and a 1050ti with 8gb of ddr4 ram and was wondering if I should upgrade my CPU or my graphics card first. I was trying to play escape from tarkov and the frames were a little low and choppy so I was wondering if there was a better way to fix my problem. I would like to keep my budget a little on the lower side but I can expand if I need too. Thanks!

Im a fairly good at deciding what in my rig needs an upgrade besides when it comes to CPUs(I'm a complete moron) so sorry if this feels like an obvious answer. I currently have a Intel i5 6500 running with no overclock(Im not confident enough to mess with it) and was considering upgrading to the Ryzen 5 3600 because I had this feeling that it was about time. If this helps, I mainly game and have a MSI 1070 8Gb graphics card. Would it be worth it for me? Thank you so much :)

Hello guys and girls, i'm planning on upgrading my PC. My current build features: CPU: Intel Xeon E3 1231 v3 GPU: Geforce GTX 970 (4GB) Asus Strix RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3 @1600Mhz PSU: Beqiuet Pure Power 530Watt 80+ Bronze Since I am rocking this build for 6 years now, I am planning on upgrading to get some more performance. I don`t want to spent a huge amount of money on it, since i need a new car in the summer. I only play games occasionally since I don't have too much time, and don't plan on Streaming etc. I am planning on getting a Ryzen 5 3600 (maybe the x because it is on sale right now and only costs 10 Euros more) MSI B450 Tomahawk 16 GB of Gskill Ripjaw 5 @3600Mhz and an M.2 NVME SSD for the better System responisveness. I want to keep my 970 to save some mone and upgrade that later this summer. I know, that the upgrade isn't super necessary, since I dont game that often, but I am bit of a nerd and would just like a more snappier PC, since I feel the old one slowing down. Would you guys recommend me to upgrade, or leave it for later? And would you Recommend the parts I've listed? DO you think I also need a new PSU? THank you for your help

Hello, I need your help with something. I recently bought Ryzen 5 3600 and B450 Tomahawk MAX motherboard, but I still have RAM from the old computer. That RAM is HyperX 2x8GB Predator RGB DDR4 2933MHz CL15 HX429C15PB3AK2/16. Should I upgrade RAM at 3600Mhz and 16GB or 32GB stay on RAM I have. If I need to change, which I'm supposed to take, I'd like with RGB but it doesn't have to and about 120-130$. Thanks for the help!!

Hey guys & gals, Looking into upgrading my current rtx 2060 to a 2080 super however i only have a 550W 80+ bronze PSU. I would plan on that being next upgrade after the GPU purchase, most likely to 750W 80+ gold. Would the 550W psu be sufficent to run a 2080 super or do I NEED to upgrade my psu first. So I have been thinking about adding more RAM to my system. More specifically 32. Now before you comment that I don't need 32. Well let's just say when I run a android emulator (bluestacks) and VM's (Virtualbox) and I can't always have them both open. I just get too low of RAM. So I was thinking upgrading to 32GB of RAM to eliminate the issue. So the current ram I have is: Corsair Vengeance LED white 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2666MHz Memory However my motherboard is duel-memory. So should I get new (or used from ebay) 2 x 16GB Ram modules or should I get 2 x 8 GB 2666MHz RAM and add to my system. I however heard that the ryzen cpus take advantage of the faster RAM speeds. I have a amd ryzen 5 3600. What should I do? Also if I get the new RAM should I have something else higher than 2666MHz or will I not notice a difference?

Should I upgrade my ram? I want to upgrade my CPU. I have a i5 6400 and want to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 3700x. The thing is, I heard Ryzen benefits from fast ram and I have 32gb of ddr4 ram at 2400 mhz. Should I get faster ram or keep my existing ram?

Alright so I have an i5 8400, RTX 2060, and 16gb 2400mhz ram. My problem is I bottleneck... A LOT. Especially when I try streaming no matter what game I’m playing, and the temps get pretty hot up to 90C so is it wise to get an i5 9600k, better cooler, and 32gb of ram?

Budget (including currency): 1500-2000 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Photo/video editing, content creation I currently have a Lenovo Y50-70 gaming laptop. 15.6 inch 4K/UHD display. 8 gigs of Ram, 1TB HDD, and 8 GB SSD. 4th gen quad core intel i7. So I have had a pre-built for some years now and want to upgrade it so i can run games to get higher fps. I play all kinds of games ranging from Rocket League to GTA 5 and Overwatch. Hello everyone, I have an outdated PC (since 2014) and with a limited budget im trying to upgrade it one piece at a time. My outdated PC Specs: Operating System: Windows 8.1. Motherboard: MSI z97 Gaming3. PSU: ZALMAN500-HP (500W). Processor: Intel Core i5-4460 @ 3.2 GHz up to 3.4(never OC it tbh). Memory: 8 GB RAM. GPU: GTX 750Ti Twin Frozr. Hard Drive: 120GB (SSD) + 2TB (HDD) The Changes that i made so far: Memory: 8 GB RAM >>> 16 GB RAM (i know that those should change when i change my MB since they are DDR3 but 8GB was low for my new GPU so i had to add an other 8GB) GPU: GTX 750Ti Twin Frozr >>> PNY GTX 1080 Ti xlr8 OC 11GB. PSU: ZALMAN500-HP (500W) >>> CoolerMaster 750W. Next I'm aiming for CPU+Motherboard, I think im going for i9-9900k cuz as i saw from many youtube reviews that i9-9900K gives the best possible performance with my GPU. So my Question is if its true that i9-9900k is the best combo for my GPU & what Motherboard i should go for with that combo for the maximum performance, If not what's the best CPU that i should aim for & what Motherboard would be the best to give the Max performance with that CPU and my GPU. Last but not least, should i go for AirCooling or WaterCooling for my CPU, and should i do Air/Water Cooling for my GPU or the 3x integrated fans that comes with my PNY GPU are enough?. Thanks in advance guys.

Budget (including currency): £600 - £800 Country: UK Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: anything from COD:MW, League of legends to 7 days hosting for 2 people whilst playing (my computer is the server). I occasionally play big open world rpg's e.g witcher 3 etc and love playing on max settings to absorb the eye candy available. I occassionally put my current build through the ringer by doing massive battles in warhammer total war 2 with huge armies. recently was gifted a 1440p monitor that can run 144hz so if i can make use of that great but not essential. Other details : my current build (including case which if i can continue to make use of great) Mother board MSI Z170A Gaming M5 Motherboards CPU Intel Core i5 6600K GPU EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW Gaming with ACX 3.0 Cooling 8 GB GDDR5X PCI SSD Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB Memory Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz Case Corsair CC-9011012-WW Carbide Series 500R Windowed Mid-Tower ATX Power supply Corsair CP-9020092-UK RM750X 750 W ATX/EPS Fully Modular Power Supply Unit I was initially thinking of swapping to AMD and getting a Ryzen5 3600X + compatable motherboard to match my partners recent build. The question i have is, is just upgrading the CPU enough and hold out till christmas time to upgrade GPU or am i looking at a 3 part upgrade now?

Hi guys, I built a computer some time ago but due to work, buying my first house etc it got rarely used and in the end got packed away in the move, the system has the following: i5 4690k Overclocked to 4.6ghz msi z97m motherboard did have 8gb ram but the system it has a faulty stick so it’s down to 6gb zotac gtx 970 2 Samsung 128gb ssd’s in raid 0 1 Tb seagate hdd 550watt Corsair full modular power supply. Now I’m not sure what to do, whether to upgrade the ram to 16gb and get a 2nd hand gtx 1070 or 1660 super and replace the hdd with a 1tb ssd equivalent. The pc will be hooked up to my 1080p tv in the front room and I have no plans yet to upgrade my tv to 4K i will be mainly playing games on it when I have the time. Or should I buy a whole new system? Cheers!!!!!!!
