So i think we've all seen the "old i5" or "old i7" with a 1050ti or 1030 that can game. Or the "console killer" and "cheap 4k" etc etc. But what i want to see, hopefully in the form of a video from linus, is a video about price to performance, pc vs ps4, in terms of gaming WHILE streaming. Yeah a 1050ti and an i5 can outperform a ps4, but where is my "dual xeon, cheap 8 core, streaming build"? Because when i look for "cheap cpus for streaming" i'm recommended i7s, ryzen 7s, and sometimes overclocked ryzen 5s. All too expensive to stream and game at 1080p 60 fps for less than a ps4. Am i the only one who thinks the ps4 is, dare i say, reasonable in price compared to a pc when you consider gaming while streaming? pls help linus.

I've got a problem with streaming almost any game that requires high FPS to play competitively on twitch, since OBS most of the times halves my framerate or sometimes even worse. I'm running an i7-4790k clocked at 4.7ghz. GTX 970 G1 overclocked by about 50mhz on core clock and 150 on memory and 12gigs of 1600mhz HyperX RAM. (DXDiag included in here.) The problem is most noticable when I try to stream Overwatch. I've put everything on low and resolution scaling to 75% since I expect FPS above 150 to feed my 144hz panel. I usually play with about 200 fps that drops somewhat below 170 in really intense teamfights, but most of the times I don't even notice it at all. My OBS is set to x264 with the veryfast preset and I stream 720p60fps 3,800 bitrate. The moment OBS is opened while I have Overwatch opened and go into a quickplay, the FPS almost always stays below 110 with terrible stuttering and a hint of input lag. Running windows 10 Version 1703 (Build 15063.540) Here's an oddshot from my stream yesterday when I decided to give overwatch a try again and I was not prepared for the experience. https://oddshot.tv/s/qsoQkT (P.S. Stream looks a lot smoother than what I experience while playing. It really messes with my muscle memory and reactions.) I'm really confused. I don't know if it's just my hardware running the game like this and just being a bit shy of being able to stream this or if I have some real problem. I've tried streaming NVENC as well as intel's quicktime or whatever it was, but the results were sorta the same. I've also uploaded a picture of GPU-Z and CPU-Z side by side while running the game in the practice range (for whatever reason). Even though GPU-Z says that the 970 is only using just shy of 600mb out of it's 3,5gb, if I switch to 100% resolution scaling my fps drops down even more, even without streaming. P.S. Forgot to add core temps, that's what the edit is for. Core temps are taken while playing Overwatch with 300 fps in practice range. DxDiag.txt

I have an I7 6700k and a GTX 760 and when streaming if I encode with the x264 option I have some skipped frames by obs (Not a performance issue in any game) but when streaming encoding with nvidia NVENC I don't get any skipped frames My connection sucks,I have something around 0.8Mbps in upload and my current max bitrate in OBS is 692Kbps with a buffer size of 500Kbps. Not that I'm not comfortable with nvidia encoding or something but I've got a 6700k for streaming with "no holds back"(performance wise,My connection is the real issue lol),but i was just wondering why if I encode with my gpu I don't have any skipped frames by obs and with my cpu yes. (I don't really know where I should post this,so feel free to move it) Sorry for bad english and grammar :c

(idk if this is the right topic thread to post this in but oh well lol) I've streamed a bit in the past and quite enjoyed it but never had time to do it more. Since I'm on summer break till September I'm tempted to stream more, but so far I've had a max of like 5 viewers on a late night OS Runescape stream . So I thought I might as well post my stream link here to see if anyone on here would like to come watch me play any random game I find on my PC. Games I'm most likely to play are the Kingdom Hearts series, Dead by Daylight, maybe Minecraft, and a few smaller indie games like Grow Up. Come and follow if you'd be interested. I also have a small Discord if anyone just wants to chat: https://discord.gg/6f5mQu7 (use this link [Link removed] if you're really cool and wanna help me earn a tiny amount of Bitcoin lol thanks). Link to stream: [Link removed] Thanks (I'll try to remember to post in here when I'm streaming as well as on my Discord) ((Also I'm not out as trans on my stream, so obviously I appear male on there lol))

I'm planning to build a new computer for streaming League of Legends. I budget is 1000$ CAD (including tax) without monitors, keyboard, mouse & speakers. My current build thought is: CPU: Ryzen 5 1400 - 205$ MOBO: Gigabyte Gaming 3 ATX - 138$ Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black (2x4gb) - 95$ HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB - 60$ SSD: Samsung 850 Pro 128GB - 160$ GPU: Radeon RX 560 - 176$ PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 550W - 100$ TOTAL: 934$ + 121.42$ TAX = 1055.42$ Are there any different components I should choose over my current choices? Maybe something that can bring the price down a little without losing too much performance?

Hello guys!! The thing is I recently ended my new pc build and I livestream tournamentswith a friend (league tournaments mostly). Since I built this pc mostly for streaming (720p 60fps or higher) I wanted to know the best advanced settings to stream at 1080p 60fps (already streaming with that quality with no problems whatsoever, cpu usage stays around 26-28% maybe less while playing/streaming at the same time) since I use the simple settings on obs studio. My pc build is. -Ryzen 5 1600 (since I have not had any problems at all nor felt I lack cpu "power" I haven't oced it) -evga 6gb 1060 ftw+ -16gb RAM (ruuning at 2133mhz. I'm a bit too lazy to flash the bios to oc the speed up to 3000mhz) -Internet upload speed 10Mbps ( currently using 5Mbps for 1080p 60fps) So uhm.. what would yo recomend, stay with simple settings or use the advanced ones, if so how should I set them up?? Leaving an image here of how obs advanced settings look like. Ty

Can my new cpu + current system stream/game?
edwbob posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I just bought a new cpu and am wondering if my system will stream on twitch? CPU: i7-7700 GPU: Asus ROG 1060 ovrclkd RAM: G.SKILL 1x8gb MOBO: Gigabyte h110m-s2h I intend to play at 1080 or 720, with games like Mad Max and Payday 2. Maybe some csgo? Thanks -
Hi there. I've been a long-time private supporter of Linus Media Group, but unfortunately found myself unable to speak in the LiveStream today for the WAN Show. I suspected it may have been an ad-blocker problem, since I do have one installed. I re-logged in, whitelisted Twitch.tv for the ad-blocker, and refreshed the page and received the same type of issue. The message box on the chat pane on the Livestream was non-existent. It leaves me wondering what kind of misconfiguration I have got going on. Additionally, it seemed payment for my last subscription cycle was reversed. Most definitely wouldn't have a reason for a ban. I'm suspecting this is a Google Chrome or Avast problem. Has anyone had these issues with Twitch.tv and payment subscriptions in general? I'd like to know what you've done to resolve the problem. OS: Windows 10 Pro Build 15063 Browser: Google Chrome Version 59.0.3071.115 (Official Build) (64-bit) Extensions: Avast SafeZone, Adblock Plus AV: Avast Antivirus Premier Problem exists: twitch.tv domain, possibly PayPal (?)

Hey Linus Tech Tips forum! I am Emperor Pheno! I am new to the forum, but I've been watching the youtube channel for quite a while. I want to talk a bit about my self, kind of as an introduction; I am Norwegian, specifically from the cold north. I like video-games and I also stream them (https://www.twitch.tv/coffeekingpheno)! I have a discord channel for my stream, and I would really appreciate if you would drop by and say hello! (https://discord.gg/jCEKhXz). I have a dog and two cats, so you can say I am really social. I don't know what other things I can say now, other than that LST has really boosted my interests with computers!

I have only just started streaming so I need to learn more about it. Here is my PC/Specs - https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/InfamousGeezer/saved/TyTLkL 1) I'd like to know how to reduce the delay of my stream. I'm using Twitch. 2) I have a spare GPU (EVGA 1060 6GB) I could put into my PC. Could that help my stream in any way? 3) I can use both Geforce Experience or OBS to stream. Which is better? 4) OBS if I understand correctly allows you to stream with x264 (a CPU powered encoding) or NVENC H.264 (a GPU powered encoding) Which is better for my system? 5) I hear that Twitch limits you to 3500 bitrate? Is this true and does Youtube allow higher bitrates when streaming? The streams I have done so far have been running quite good at 720p @ 60fps. I'd like to get the best and most stable stream possible. Here's a link to my up and download speeds. http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6494192197 **Request to the Admin of Linus Tech Tips Forum** Can you please add a streaming forum since I have placed this into the PC Gaming forum as I thought it was the closest most relevant forum to post this in. Thanks!

Have you ever wanted to participate in a twitch plays things? Have you ever wanted to help science? Why not do both at once with twitch plays robotics? On a serious note a friend of mine's lab is studying how the internet can be used to teach robots so get on there if you have some extra time and have some fun. Hello! Ok so I'm about to start streaming on twitch and youtube using Restream.io. I got myself a bunch of gear and I'm figuring out what's the best way to set it up. Had a plan for this BEFORE I bought the gear of course, but now that I'm setting it up, things might be a little different. So here's the original plan: Now, as I try to set this up, I'm having all sorts of issues. I'll start with the audio. Is it a better idea, to have the mic and interface going into the PC instead, and then running the voice chat apps on that, and then also hooking up the PTT pedal to the PC instead of the mac? Should I be running iTunes or whatever else I'm using for the background music, on the PC too? This way the streaming computer (the mac), gets ALL the audio and just sends it to the stream? But this starts to defeat the purpose of having the PC run ONLY the games, to keep me playing at full PC performance with no FPS drops etc... Then, about the video: The splitter supports up to 4K. It has an "auto" mode and a "copy" mode. I'm testing it right now on "auto". The INOGENI supports 4K as well. I bought 4K gear because I'll be upgrading to an ultra wide monitor on the PC soon, so I need that even if I still stream at 1080p. In OBS, the presets only go up to 720p which is a nope. But, if I switch to manual config and try to to 1080p, the source goes black. Also the TV hooked up to the PC keeps losing signal, it's like the refresh rate is jumping around and the TV is trying to catch up. Help?

I was a bit hesitant to build a dedicated live streaming machine since I already have a NAS plus my gaming rig, but came to the conclusion it would be best to have a dedicated computer for streaming. For the chassis I was hoping for a slim micro (or small form factor) atx for easy transportation for special streams with friends where all of us meet up. If a window is present in the chassis I would prefer the components to either be white or black. I was never a fan of a green motherboard with blue ram and a yellow whatever. The motherboard I am hoping for USB 3.0/3.1 and USB Type C. On a daily use I will only be using two Elagto HD60 Capture cards(already own), but for those special streams I would LIKE the option of having the computer being able to handle an additional four capture Elgato HD60 capture cards. For the motherboard I was looking at the Asus Rog Maximum Vlll Gene LGA 1151 z170 which looks perfect. - Total Budget $1200, but lower is better. edit: I know that the motherboard is probably overkill, but at the same time I like the fact that it supports m.2 plus has USB type C

I have a very small youtube channel that I haven't been able to do much with because of school. However, because I'm only taking 2 classes next semester, I wanna invest much more time into it and get into streaming. I would be outputting video to YouTube at 720p60 or 1080p60 (still unsure for now) using Adobe Premiere Elements and making title cards in Photoshop Elements (I got them for cheap which is why I'm using them). As for streaming, I'm still learning about it but that would at least start at 720p as I am unsure to twitch or YouTube gaming, whichever is easier. The software I would be recording and streaming from though ranges from indies games on steam to more demanding games up to programs like Visual Studio (for programming in C#, C++, etc.) and Unity (for game development). Would it be better to invest in an i7 6700k now or wait and see how big my channel gets and upgrade to a more powerful processor down the road and stick with an i5 6600k or even an i5 6500?

Hello everyone! Im planing a new pc build for livestreaming and gaming purposes for arround 1,400 € because i dont need al the components if i did it would cost me arround 2k€ and this is what i came up with: ________________________________________________ New parts: CPU - Intel i7 6700k 4.00Hz Water cooling - You guys said to throw this one out (Corsair H75) so i exchanged it with Corsair H110 280mm Motherboard - MSI Z170A-PRO RAM - Kingston Fury 16GB (2x8 DDR4) GPU - Palit Geforce GTX 1080 Super JetStream 8GB Case - I also changed the case from (NZXT S340) to a new and more compact Corsair carbide 400C ________________________________________________ Previus PC parts: PSU - Sharkoon 700W 80BronzePlus HDD - WD Blue 1TB SSD - Samsung 120GB (Windows 10 only on it) CDROM - Random one for 20€ _______________________________________________ The main question i have now is will it work if i just plug my SSD with a preinstalled windows10 that i used on my other pc with a totaly diferent motherboard and a AMD CPU? Or will i have to reinstall everything? I know ill have to delete old drivers for GPU and install new ones but will i have to totaly erase everything i really dont want to loose any files Thankyou for your tips and comments!

Hey guys, So I have been waiting to upgrade my i7 3770k (@4.5GHz) for a while. But I have yet to see any decent options thus far. The 6700k doesn't seem to offer that much of a performance increase to be worth upgrading (not really talking about price-to-performance of the upgrade but just as a upgrade in general). I use programs like Unity3D editor, Unreal 4, Maya (on occassion), and I write different programs and such as I am a Game Developer. I am also a twitch streamer and the 3770k doesn't seem to cut it on more intense games where there is a lot going on in the game I am playing. I use X264 encoding as it produces the best quality, but it is also the most demanding of the CPU. I figured that 4 more cores were certainly do the trick for a better quality stream and would also help in the other programs or at least in multitasking with demanding tasks. I also play a lot of games (I realize in gaming alone the performance will probably be about the same, that being said I feel sometimes I am CPU limited having two 980ti's in sli). I also just read that Skylake-x should be coming out around may (ish?) would it be better to wait for that? Do you guys think I would see a big improvement in the programs/purposes I listed? Thanks guys!

So I've been trying to get more into streaming on twitch, but my streams just really never look that good. I run at a bitrate of 3000, at 720p 60FPS, using Nvidia NVENC (I don't have enough CPU power to use x264). Here's a VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/spork829/v/105322483 If you skip to 5:20, you'll see that the quality looks just fine when there's not much movement. However, skipping through to other spots where I'm in game, you'll see that it's quite pixelated and sometimes barely watchable (around an hour in is probably the worst). Also, maybe it's just me being paranoid, but does this really look like 60FPS? It looks more like 30 or somewhere in between to me, but I was outputting at 60. Either way, should I change up the resolution/FPS/bitrate to get it to look better? I don't want to change the bitrate that much because a lot of people have buffering issues when I go above 3000Kbps, plus if I remember correctly twitch doesn't even allow over 3500 for non-partnered channels. What can I do to make it look better? Thanks.
