Technology can be very amazing sometimes.. Sesame Phone is the World's first Touch-free Smartphone, that is designed for disabled people to interact with their smartphone without having a physical contact with the phone , you can control by moving your head , basically helps people that are paraplegic or amputees or if you're just plain lazy According to research from the Christopher Reeve Foundation, about six million people are living with some form of paralysis. Of that six million, a little more than 2 million report having a lot of difficulty moving, while one million of them say they’re unable to move at all & that’s just in the US The setup works touch-free immediately, no additional set-up required with No external hardware being required for it to work is necessary.. So How does it Work? The Sesame Phone is a Google Nexus 5 phone customized to include facial recognition capabilities and a cursor that floats over the home screen, allowing people to click on apps without using their hands. Users open the Sesame Enable app by saying, “Open Sesame,” which opens a window that capture’s key points on the user’s face. When the phone has a good read of a user’s face, a cursor appears. Through advanced computer vision algorithms, the Sesame Phone tracks your head movements with extreme precision, utilizing only the existing, front-facing camera. Turn your head slightly to the right and the cursor moves right. Stop, and a navigation icon appears, allowing you to click, drag, swipe, or exit. (better than full body mouse chair) Oded Ben Dov Ceo of Sesame with phone user The touch-free smartphone is actually a modified Nexus 5, installed with the Sesame software (on top of the Android platform), which is the one that recognizes voice commands and head gestures through the front-facing camera. Ben Dov also is working with smartphone manufacturers to integrate Sesame Enable’s technology into existing phones. That not only will expand the options that disabled customers have, but it could also bring down the price of the phone Kid playing Angry birds with gesture control The Phone currently goes out for a whopping 900$ price range , but they do hope to bring the price down after other companies start to collaborate with them & this becomes more of a main stream thing.. The technology is still under development & would be very amazing to see this kind of feature to implemented in future technologies as a default on all smart phones.. Screen shot of the software interface (the red dot is the cursor) Currently it's under prototype & is set up under indiegogo campaign & Its creators are trying to raise $30,000 from the campaign in order to put finishing touches on a final working prototype and to bring it to production Do care to donate or support the developers check out their campaign : (secure & verified link) https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sesame-touch-free-smartphone they have raised a total of $10,985USD at the time of this post Bonus:

Make believe? Sony is Cutting back on some of their major products on the market to make up for the loss they encountered earlier this year, Their new strategy will see the company abandon plans to compete with rivals in the market share stakes and concentrate on a smaller clutch of devices that turn a profit even if sales were to stop by 30%. Sony is counting on multi-billion dollar revenue surges for its buoyant PlayStation 4 and image sensor businesses over the next three years. Under its new 3 year electronics business plan, Sony said it was aiming to boost sales for its videogame division by a quarter to as much as 1.6 trillion yen ($13.6 billion). It said that will be helped by personalized TV, video and music distribution services that should lift revenue per paying user. Sony is cutting back a lot to make up for losses, along with that Sony will end its sponsorship deal with FIFA, which will apparently save around $280 million for the company. Sonytends to focus more on image sensors right now, at its devices division, which houses its image sensor business, Sony said sales could increase 70 percent to as much as 1.5 trillion yen. Sony's sensor sales are already robust, with Apple using them in its iPhones while Chinese handset manufacturers are increasingly adopting them. In addition to cutting costs, Sony is hoping to earn more money by pumping its gaming division for profits. In addition to selling the PlayStation 4, the company is working on PlayStation Vue, the company's new Netflix-like TV service. read about it more in here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/249887-sony-launching-its-own-internet-tv-service-playstation-vue-in-2015/ from the recent financial results, Sony's mobile division was single-handedly responsible for wiping out the heavy profits earned by the PlayStation 4. At a recent investor conference executive Hiroki Totoki told the audience tabout this new plan & the 3 year plan is designed to staunch these losses.the plan summed up pretty simply as "make a lot fewer TVs and smartphones." Sony is not alone in this, Samsung also said that it would cut back on smartphone sales by a whopping 30% next year: read: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/252976-samsung-plans-to-reduce-smartphone-models-by-up-to-30-by-next-year/ What are your thoughts on this? Just a small reminder that HERE is owned by Nokia not M$. This is the part of Nokia that was NOT bought by Microsoft. Nokia HERE Maps offers some features that even Google Maps doesn’t, which means the free software should be at least worth considering if you’re a frequent traveler. Take for example its ability to store offline maps. Unlike Google Maps, which simply caches some data, Nokia HERE gives you the ability to save entire regions, like a state, for offline turn-by-turn directions. You can even search for points-of-interest when you don’t have a connection, which means you’ll still be able to look up the location of a new restaurant while you’re riding the subway. There are also other features, like 3D renders of famous buildings, cloud storage for saved favorites – provided you’ve created an account – and more. Features list: Offline navigation: Interactive maps and turn-by-turn voice guidance are still available even without an internet connection. Maps to download and to use offline for nearly 100 countries. Public transport maps and directions for over 800 cities in over 40 countries, also when you’re offline. Live traffic info for more than 40 countries. Plan your journey on beta.here.com, then find your way there using your mobile. Personalise your map by creating Collections of your favourite places. Share your location with family and friends in real time as you go via Glympse. It’s private, secure and safe. source : http://360.here.com/2014/10/21/here-for-all-android/

hi guys! i just opened a octacore topic and since i saw a lot of answers another question came to my mind... i've noticed that a lot of phones tend to heat up while playing or just messing around on 3g internet, do you think we will ever be able to build a kind of cooling system for the new gen phones? i don't know, like copper heatsinks spreading on the backplate from the processor or vapor chambers or whatever? thanks!!

Hey guys just a quick poll to see if you think I should fix my Galaxy s3 for $229 or buy a Nexus 4 for $299? My Galaxy S3 needs a complete screen Replacement I can fix it myself but the screen costs $229 do you think it's worth spending the money on it or just cutting my losses and buying a brand new Nexus 4 for an extra $70? Any input would be appreciated, Thanks.

I really don't use my phone, I only use it for business reasons texts and calls not for games or watching videos etc. My girlfriend wants me to get a better phone because "my brick phone pisses her off" Back in 2004 I was given Nokia block phone from my mum which has lasted me about 6 years (stone age but at least colour) in 2010 I got an Samsung galaxy S1 from work which ended up getting stolen, then I think I was given a phone 4 or 4s from work which also got stolen in 2011. My Nokia phone is very strong, has been dropped alot of times(in the past) been in the washing machine a few times (I cant do laundry but lucky my girlfriend does most of the house work now, phone hasn't been in wash since.) 2004-2010 and 2011 since now 2013. I think its time for a upgrade so recommend me a phone. Things I want on my phone: GPS with no lagg when using it Tracking like find my iPhone or something similar 3G would be nice Very long battery and fast charging Very strong and reliable like Nokia rep but not crazy like water proof and drop proof 50m etc Nice simple looking. Not to expensive Not to flash don't want to get mugged Not a flip phone I would like wireless charging like the nexus 4 but my girlfriend has the s4 and bought a cover which allowed her to use wireless charging Not to big. Want something that will fit in my pocket not crazy like the Samsung galaxy note which i saw in the shop. Preferred if it had SD card. Nice Camera. Just for references to work photos etc and when traving taking photos instead of bring a camera. Oversea sim card unlocked preferred duel sim like traving to over countries I know this is alot of things to ask from a phone but im sure there is something out there. Really leaning to the nexus 4 but no sd card and wanting duel sim.

So i am finally going to upgrade from my Samsung S2 but i can't seem to choose what phone to get. The Samsung galaxy S5 does't appeal to me but the HTC one M8 and Sony Xperia Z2 really do interest me. The think that puts me off the HTC one M8 is the camera, the rest looks awesome and the thing that puts me of the Sony Xperia Z2 is how much people disliked the Z1. What do you guys think?

When I look at how smartphones are made and the stuff that goes into design it seems that there are more and more parts that are becoming standardized I was wondering how far away are we that a technical consumer could make thier own phone. Stuff I thought about: There are sevices that make pcb's if you give them pcb plans. Making parts and prototyping is easy due to 3D printing the needed parts could be sent to manufactures with which they can make molds or other stuff they need to make a better parts. People are making stuff like routers and small electronics without being part of manufacturing instead they give that away to places like china and just plan everything. (like kickstarter stuff) Anybody who thinks that they could make this is a bit crazy and awsome I think the linus community could pull this off just as an idea or food for thought.

"in fact, those of you with invites will start seeing them in your inbox on June 6th" - David S. of One Plus shipping will be 3-5 days (ups ground looks like is fastest) http://forums.oneplus.net/threads/behind-the-scenes-invites-are-coming.21563/ early supporters get invites first. One plus describes early supporter as "What's an early supporter? Previously, we would include activity and other metrics in the mix in determining this. This time, it's all about registration date. Going by registration date means that there will be a lot of people whose accounts aren't active, which is why the early supporter invites in July will last 24 hours. As they expire, the next people in line will get them." http://forums.oneplus.net/threads/july-plan-for-early-supporters.43151/ also. linus if you plan on reading this and trying to say my name... I will laugh so hard at the fails. easier to say KC and I won't be able to pronounce the remainder of your name so screw it also linus if I get more invites I will offer them to you as I won a contest for early invite (if you are interested)

http://vr-zone.com/articles/best-galaxy-note-3-feature-one-talking/55092.html So this is interesting...I think this is the first phone that USB 3.0 has been implemented on. This will also benefit file transfer speeds, since this should be the first phone using Samsung's "Ultra Fast 1-Gigabit OneNand" flash memory (http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/news-events/press-releases/detail?newsId=4287). To add to all that, micro USB 3.0 is also a stronger connector than micro USB 2.0, but it will still allow the use of micro USB 2.0. What does everyone think about this? It's not exactly "revolutionary" but it does show that nand flash in phones is getting faster.

Want oculus Rift but doesn't like the numerous cables around it? What if your phone could turn itself into the Oculus Rift? Well, i shall present you.... The vrAse is a product that is on kickstarter and uses the same logic as the Oculus rift but the difference is that... it's modular! If you have an iPhone 5 or a Note 2 it doesn't care! you can use any without effort to get the exact model you need! And if you change your phone, you only need to change the Mounting mechanism (Wich by the way is very easy to change) , because the base is modular and fully adjustable -even the lens for each eye- to meet the person angle and measures. The vrAse already Supports the following devices: - Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - Samsung Galaxy S4 - Samsung Galaxy S3 - Sony Xperia Z - HTC One - iPhone 5 In my opinion things will be interesting in Augmented Reality and also through Real Time Images Streaming (like in the Nvidia's Shield). Another cool thing is, you can turn that old Smartphone into a dedicated VR machine! Imagine all the possibilities! Here's the link for the Kickstarter with a lot more of information about it: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2041280918/vrase-the-smartphone-virtual-reality-case I particularly can't wait to use one to play AirSoft with augmented reality! I can already imagine something such as an Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon in true FPS!

Anand Lal Shimpi and Brian Klug of Anandtech have written a very interesting article about the advantages and disadvantages of removable storage and batteries in phones. So, their basic argument is that removable batteries and SD card expansion in phones are simply not needed if internal optimizations are made and if companies put larger amounts of storage stock in their phones. I'm with Anandtech on the battery issue, but I like using SD cards. Cloud storage isn't an option, especially in this age of tiered data plans that cost an arm, leg, eyeball, and liver. Thus, the two don't penalize phones for not having removable batteries and storage in their reviews. What's your opinion? http://www.anandtech.com/show/7543/a-post-about-removable-storage-removable-batteries-and-smartphones P.S. Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong section. But based on the source, I feel that it belongs here.

I wanted the old Moto X for some time but now that the new version is giant in my hands, that one went out the window for me. I've never held a Nexus in hand so i don't know an exact size comparison, but the Nexus is smaller (vertically) than the Samsung S5 which is what my dad has (and it's just too big for me...) If not the Nexus 5, what phone should fit in my tiny hands? I would like Android phone and although I like the (now) old iPhone, I still want my Android customization.

I was just wondering what phones people are using, so I decided to make this post Please post like this: 1.Phone name 2.When you got it. (And if it's on contract or unlocked) 3.Your age 4.Where you live. (Country/State) 5.Why you chose that phone. So i'll start 1.Sony Xperia Tipo (single-sim) 2.Last november, on contract 3.16 4.Serbia 5.I had a choice between the tipo, an LG Optimus l3 and Huawei Ascend y200, and after looking at some reviews I figured the tipo is the best choice for me
