Hello fellow Pc enthusiasts, today should have been a great day, my new custom loop arrived, together with a new x470 chipset and an ryzen5 2600. I unplugged my old Amd Fx board and my R9 290 put everything together and voilla: nothing works. Pc boots, no visuals tho. I figured it might be the new RAM, since i heard ryzen 2 needs a bios update to work with most rams. did that, still nothing. I was getting curious and put my R9 back into the old system, again boot without visuals. I checked the liquid metal, that i applied on the graphics card today, nothing seems to have dropped. I am at the end of my straight thinking problem solving... please help.

Hey I just removed (and replaced) the stock fans on my r9 290 and noticed i could get a noticably higher overclock. Link to my previous "build log": So I modded the gpu cooling so that the fans get their power straight from the PSU. Previously I could only get 1005mhz (3-3.5%) overclock with WattMan, but now it seems that I'm stable at 1035mhz? Obviously my ghetto cooling solution is way better than the stock one, but the temps were never an issue with overclocks. Has anyone else done this and gotten similar results? Of course if you go watercooled you remove the fans and you remove some of the thermal limitations of overclockin'. I just wondered if the (2x0.4Ax12V) 9,4W removed from the gpu power consumption could affect overclocks. It's just that 9,4W is not that much at all... (vertical ziptie just for holdin' the extra weight of those fans)

Hey, I have had a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X graphics card for around 3 years now and the card used to be really good. One day around 3 months ago I think i ran into a blue screen and after restarting, i only get boot and Windows logo and then just black. When i get drivers for the card and Windows starts using the R9 290 instead of my CPU's graphics, the screen goes black. I have tried so many different things to try and get the GPU to function normally but i cant solve this by myself. I still have hope that my GPU isn't dead, so if you have any suggestions how to get it working i would be very grateful. Regards, Mrhaamu

Hi (sorry bad english etc...) So i decided to post my build since I find it pretty hilarious and it might be educational for some who is looking to build on a budget. This build is basically a sequel to my previous post which you can find here: So this build began a year ago when my work pc lease expired and I got the chance to purhcase my work pc for 10€. It was a pretty basic i5-4570K 12GB ram and a quadro whatever. I was mostly intrested about that cpu+mobo+ram combo. Pic of the work pc: So the first setback was that the fujitsu mobo uses some weird power connector, so that i cannot use my 550w atw powersupply for the mobo. Not to worry, I've got an idea. Pic of the to-be-upgraded pc: The gpu didn't fit to the fujistu case at all, so I began fitting the fujitsu mobo to my old (modded) Antec case. It did fit like a charm, but the problem was that the mobo needs a non-standard atx connector for power. So do i splice up my existing psu cables or do I the Austin Evans solution? I think its pretty obvious... So I cut the green and one ground(black) wire from the fujitsu and ran wires to the atx power supply connector and used tape to secure those. I didn't have to cut any wires from the atx psu. Now both power supplys start at the same time. It's important to connect at least one black wire because otherwise there might be a potential (voltage) difference between the two circuits. After that the build was done for a little while Then i upgraded that GTX580 (in the picture above) to a r9 290 I bought from a friend for 80€. I also wanted that external PSU gone somehow. Solution? Put the atx psu into the unused 5 1/4" bay and ziptie that fujistu one to the frame. There was some blood, sweat and tears while fitting that psu into the bay BUT with the power of hopes and dreams it fit right in there. But I was not happy with the PSU just heating up the case AND my gpu fan died. Time for some mods. First, the PSU. I wanted to flip the psu so that it would blow hot air out of the case. Bring out the saw. So now the psu blows out hot air. Ok so now I have to try and make a reply with the GPU fan fix since I hit the forum limit for attachement size.

Hi all, Sorry if similar topic (regarding thermal pastes) already exists, I just didn't manage to find it. I've purchased an Asus Radeon R9 290 DirectCU II graphics card in 2014, around July. I'll be doing a major cleaning of my PC soon and that means I'm planning to dismantle everything (PSU, graphics card, not the motherboard though). I've also purchased some thermal paste for the CPU about a year ago, DeepCool Z5, two pieces. Can't remember if the 5 or 7g versions. Haven't used any of those yet. My questions would be: should I dismantle the graphics card too in order to change the thermal paste? Would the DeepCool Z5 do or should I buy something else for it? I'm currently in Romania so I will search the local market to see what I can find (in case one of the recommendations would be unavailable here). Thanks.

So recently i posted about my cracked R9 290 (as seen below) and am looking for a new gpu. Preferably from the R9 series (390, 290 and the x variants) anyone want to sell me one? If not, any recommendations for what to buy?

Hi guys I was hoping for your collective expertise. I've have had my R9 290 for many years now and today while I was playing FC5 my pc suddenly showed a black screen losing sound also. I pushed the restart button only to find after the windows logo I got a black screen with no boot into windows. I started my computer up in safe mode successfully and re installed my AMD drivers to get the same issue after restart. I have now uninstalled the drivers again and can boot normally but with strange artefacts on my screen in different areas. I have my display port plugged into my GPU, I am getting display and the fans are spinning all at normal temps. (I have re-thermal pasted and dusted it) My question is what do I do! or is my GPU ready for the can, buying a new one will have to wait for this Mining plight to end

So.... i bought this R9 290 for $160 on ebay which isnt that bad a deal. The card worked great, but I was thermal throttling while gaming so i wanted to replace the thermal paste (i know the card runs hot but it was getting bad) i replace the thermal compound with no issues, but then my pc wont post. I try everything that i know. After multiple hours i give up and reopen the card...... damn.... that is unfortunate... any of you have an r9 290s for sale?

Hi all, I am wondering if anyone else has an Asus graphics card from Amazon that they have tried to return to amazon before? My issue is as follows: So I got an r9 290 from a third party amazon seller 2 years and 9 months ago. I have been having issues with it recently - I had weird artefacts and it kept crashing my computer after logging in, even after multiple times uninstalling drivers (using DDU) and installing older versions and so on. So I contacted Asus, who told me that amazon deals with the refund/replacement process which is fair enough! and the card is still in warranty so I thought it wouldn't be an issue. I contacted Amazon for the first time they said they contacted the seller and I should wait for a response . The second time they said they contacted them again and will give them 24-48 hours to respond and if they do not then they will step in and take responsibility. The third time they said they contacted the seller AGAIN and the FOURTH TIME..... they again said they contacted them again. So I kicked up a fuss and they just kept saying that they don't have an option for an "A-Z dispute" so their only route is to keep contacting the seller even though I told them that I had a three year warranty. I asked what would happen if they just never reply and they said they would "contact the seller again". I am calling up tomorrow as this is just ridiculous and I really am not feeling like a customer of the supposed "earth's most customer-centric company" but I was just wondering if anyone else has had any issue like this with Amazon? and any tips or suggestions on what I can do before my warranty runs out in 2 months! Thanks, A.

I keep asking questions like this, but: Does the R9 290 support HDMI 1.4? I have a 23MP68VQ monitor and it has a HDMI 1.4 connection that supports freesync (also a DVI-D but there's no freesync there), and since those mother fucking miners are taking about, hmmmm- 100% of decent AMD cards, I'm desperate for freesync. Thank you in advance. Oh, also, have any of you lot been experimenting to see if a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter works for freesync? I'm curious.

Hi! Can I flash an r9 290x bios into my r9 290? I know it's risky but I will flash it on the silent fan profile bios, and if that goes bad, I can just roll back to the uber bios, right? I have the wf3 non oc version.

Just a question: does the AMD R9 290 support freesync over HDMI? Because my freesync monitor only supports hdmi freesync.

Looking for a new air cooler for my newly acquired R9 290 because I can't stick it somewhere I can't hear it sadly. It's worse than I thought, need to keep it maxed out to have it under 80C too and that's really really loud. Had good experience with Accelero before but I'd like to hear some other options too. Only air coolers. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi! I bought my r9 290 gigabyte wf3 and no mather what, the clocks and usages are unstable. This happens both stock and oc. It always sits bellow 80c, and its paired with a i5 2500k @4.6 ghz and 8 gb ram. I have a 650w power supply and thats more than enough. I tried different drivers, putting the power limit to 50%, nothing. Is my gpu broken or what?

So my brother has a GTX 680 right now, the EPIC MSI lightning card and i have two friends that upgraded their GPUs, one went from a 970 to a 1080, the other from a refrence 290 also to a 1080. i could probably snag that 290 from him for like €85 or so, the question is, is it worth it? brothers specs: I5 4670K Hyper 212 GTX 680 Lightning ASUS Maximus IV 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 500W CoolerMaster PSU(not entirely sure what unit, its not that great though) Zalman GT1000 case the PSU clearly needs an upgrade, but i have a G750M sitting around i could swap in but the powerdraw of the two seem similar. the thing im unsure about is the cooler, the Lightning is pretty quiet, as is the 212(well not super quiet but not too bad) and the 290 is infamous for its garbage cooler: mounting a custom cooler on it would be nice, but that would add quite a bit of cost here. the 970 is also an option but thats going to be more like €130 and then the 290 with the aftermarket cooler is cheaper He plays games like WoT at 1080p 60Hz, think he plays some OW too now but he plays mostly esports games, nothing AAA, so idk if the upgrade is really even worth it seeing as the 680 is about on par with the 1050TI(drawing almost 3x the power) and the 1050TI does well in basically everything still, havent had any problems running anything on the Toaster and that has an I5 4690K and a 1050TI. i thought breifly about putting the 290 in the toaster, then i rememberd its running a crappy 300W SFX PSU and that with the 290 it would probably draw somewhere near 400W lol. anyway i just want your input on wether or not i should but the 290 here, is it worth it, or is the upgrade not worth the cost and added noice?

I have an R9 290 and a dell u2515h monitor, i have the latest chrome browser and the latest AMD driver that i freshly installed with DDU. I did use another monitor before the dell were i never had the problem. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

I installed a new Sapphire R9 290 and setup Radeon Software for it. It worked for 2 days, then my system went to sleep, and when I woke it up no video. I rebooted and rebooted and rebooted. Disconnected the card and hooked back up to the MoBo via IG, and works fine. Hook the card back up, no signal. Any ideas what may be wrong? About 2 days ago my graphics was fine but now I am running at very low performance. I updated my driver to Crimson 16.7.3 but it did not fix the problem. I saw in another thread someone fixed it by increasing the power to their card so I used MSI after burner to do that but it still didn't work. Heres a screenshot of Afterburner http://imgur.com/a/h9DK9The performance graph is me running Dark Souls 3 with all settings set to low. As you can see the card fluctuates between 0 and 100% usage. I have no idea what could be causing this. Any ideas? Help appreciated!

I currently have an ASUS reference R9 290 which I am happy with, except it's too damn noisy and my girlfriend is always complaining about it, since I love performance and I keep a custom loud fan profile so the card doesn't thermal throttle. To fix this I think I have three options: 1) get an R9 290X or a 390 (used) for about the same price I could sell my card. Price: around 200€ 2) get one of those two cards, buy a 1000W PSU and Crossfire them. Probably too pricey though. Price: around 350€ 3) get an Accelero Hybrid III 120 (or whatever aftermarket cooler you think works best. Has to be 120mm exhaust) to apply to my current card. Price:108€ I don't wanna spend too much money, so probably option #2 is gonna be too much for me. Gosh if I had the money I'd get that 1070 AMP! Extreme... BONUS QUESTION: I currently have a Corsair CX750: think it can handle the Crossfire when paired with a 6600K, Arctic Freezer Xtreme rev.2, AsRock Z170 Pro4, 5 case fans (1x Noctua NF-A14 PWM, 2x Corsair AP12, 2x Aerocool fans that came with the Aero-800), 1x 1TB Caviar Black, 16GB of Corsair LPX @3000MHz, 1 DVD drive (that I very rarely use)? I don't think it can...

Hello, I am want to upgrade to a r9 290. But I don't know if my power supply is good enough. So I was wondering if a r9 290 would work with a naxn 500w power supply. I also have a intel xeon x3440 and 8 gb of ddr3 ram. I don't plan on overclocking anything. If you need any more info on my pc let me know. Thanks,

I have a noise issue coming from the fans on my gpu, primarily i just want to know if this can damage my graphics card long term. The noise it self is kind of hard to explain, the video below is pretty similar to the noise i hear from my gpu fan, just that my graphics card is louder. The noise can be heard from 50% fan speed and above, become louder the faster the fan spins. I think i can still RMA it, all though i'd rather not, seeing as the place where i bought it doesn't sell it anoymore, which would render my other r9 290 useless. ( because it isnt powerful enought to keep up with the games i play at 1440p alone)

So I got my girlfriend a Vapor-X R9 290 off of HWSwap. Seller claimed he got it from a guy who'd had it for a week after RMA, and I figured it'd be the last thing I'd need to do to her PC for a while. It worked great from what I could tell after install, I ran around in Witcher 3 and Borderlands 2 and maxed everything out, did fine with okay framerates at 1080p. A few days later she tried DotA and it kept crashing. I figured it was just DotA being DotA after the update but she's positive it's the GPU since that's the only hardware change. It also has trouble with Folding, where it routinely freezes the computer. The computer has crashed completely a couple times in Borderlands 2 since then. Occasionally, there is weird artifacting just on desktop where a square in the middle of the screen or around the mouse will have negative colors until you change what's being shown in that area (eg, click on the background). I've read about people having black-screens with this card, and tried some of the fixes they suggested, like downclocking the memory and clock in MSI afterburner and upping the power limit. It seems like this maybe helped? A little? But we still get issues, and it's hard to quantify whether or not it really helped and how much. From this point, as I understand it, my options are: * Try a bigger PSU? This one is within the rating, but the CPU and GPU are both relatively hungry, I guess? * Flash the VBIOS? With a potential of bricking it... * Try to get Sapphire to fix it, despite not being the original owner? If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I'd really appreciate it.
