I am looking for something cheap to just get the feel for vr. And i have hear the dk2 is a good place to start. But i also have heard you have to install old drivers for your gpu, and my gpu is fairly new so i don’t know how that will work out. so i would really apreciate some tips here.

At GDC, Oculus had a few announcements to make. The biggest one is a price drop for their VR hardware. The Oculus Rift headset is dropping $100 ($599 to $499), the Touch controller kit is dropping another $100 ($199 to just $99), and the cost of extra cameras for improved room scale coverage are dropping $20 ($79 to $59). The price drops bring the Rift + Touch price to a combined $598, $200 cheaper than the HTC Vive competitor and in fact closer to the cheaper PSVR. New hardware launches and the ASW feature have also allowed the price tag for a Rift-capable PC to drop to $499. This price drop follows statements by Oculus VP of Content, Jason Rubin, that wireless is too expensive for wider adoption of VR, and that Oculus would rather focus on bringing the price of VR down. Oculus also revealed several titles on the way in 2017, from their Oculus Studios partnerships with VR developers like 4A Games (makers of Metro:Last Light). Among these are Brass Tactics (RTS), From Other Suns (co-op shooter), and Mage's Tale (dungeon-crawling RPG). Along with previously announced titles like Lone Echo and Arktika.1, and yet more unannounced games, Oculus is saying there will be at least one VR game released from Oculus Studios in every month this year. The VR space is really heating up with these big-time announcements from Oculus, along with the new VR headsets on the way from Microsoft partners as well as LG. The price barrier is dropping into reach of more regular gamers, and the amount of high-quality content is skyrocketing. 2017 is going to be an exciting year for VR. so i had a thought recently while testing my friends mobile vr. Can I use my phone as a desktop vr headset emulating the oculus? I did research and yes. It is possible. Vridge allows you to do this. the next thing i though about was getting some controllers so i can use it like an actual full set up. I was looking for htc vive emulation but that was expensive, but i looked at the oculus touch controllers and the little recievers, and that was only $160. 220 if i need two of the recievers. adn about 40-100 for a mobile vr head set. sonow i have thought of a wayfor you to have a desktop vr setup that can easily emulate the oculus rift and be used for oculus grade games for only $200-$260. i have just a question. Can I use the touch control seperately from teh headset? with out the head set can the touch track my position? (not where im looking, just xy position? the phone handles the 360 view) Tell me guys if you know anything the price is provided you have a vr ready pc and a phone btw

Hello People! My family and I have some interest in getting a VR headset. We are curious about the party games available on either platform. There is discussions all over this forum and other forums about pros vs cons but I have a few specific things I'm interested in, please provide input based on my questions below: **1-) What games are fun Party Games for each platform? Could you recommend one platform over the other based on Party Games (Something we want to be able to hang out together). Are there any Multiplayer games for people with 2 headsets that you could play with each other, are these online based or could you do a LAN gaming session? This is the main thing I am interested about. If you haven't tried both platforms but have some favorite games, then throw out some titles and reasons why you like it. 2-) In terms of quality how do the Rift VS Vive compare on these three things. -Quality of screen/Immersion (FOV?) -Controllers, which ones have people liked more? I've heard GREAT things about the Rift controllers. -Comfort of headset, I have a small form factor PC that I am going to turn into a Backpack PC so the Tether will NOT be an issue, but how about the rest of the feel.

Pretty straight forward question, which one should I be looking at getting? Rift or Vive? I personally see the Vive as a superior headset as you can actually get up and move with it (to an extent obviously). And I don't really like how the Oculus comes with it's own headphones attached and the controllers aren't even released yet. And yes, VR takes more power but I have a sufficient build (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/dcXgtJ) so don't worry. But another option is available and that's Playstation VR. Now Playstation VR games, I assume, should be more optimized and "perfected" to work on a Playstation but the games are very limited. Or should I not even bother jumping to VR because "it's just a fad" like 3D TVs? But on the other had I REALLY want to play VR pool and roast pirates in Elite Dangerous in VR. Anyway, any help or opinions are greatly appreciated!

Samsung Note7 has recently been in the headlines for overheating and even exploding. Now it seems that Oculus wants to prevent any possible liabilities on Note 7 exploding while using Oculus' Gear VR headset. I have to agree with Samsungs orginal press release... Phone exploding middle of shooter game would be ultra-immersive experience, but maybe not what I would be looking forward to.

I am looking to get either the rift with controllers or get the HTC Vive. My problem with the Vive is that there don't seem to be as many titles for it and with the oculus controllers coming out it may become more difficult to play them through the HTC Vive (yes you can play oculus games on the Vive). My problem with the oculus it that it uses an inferior tracking implementation. I also am looking to make my own content and it seems as though the vive is easier to develop for.

http://www.strawpoll.me/11471761 I just want to see want people think. Everyone seems to disagree. Personally, I disagree, I think it is just getting started. Plus there are applications outside of gaming.

I just tested the Oculus Touch Controllers and from what I can tell they are just as accurate as the Vive controllers. They also are more comfortable and feel like they are my hand. Do you think now that oculus has touch controllers that are as good as the Vive games will add in support for them or at least a mod will come out that will make it possible?

I have a GTX 970 with a single HDMI output which I am using as my monitor doesn't have any Display Ports. Tomorrow is the expected delivery date for my Oculus Rift, which will need its own HDMI port. None of my friends have VR, so I have no clue how the Oculus works when its plugged in, like if I can see the desktop and apps and programs that are running or not. I can obviously plug my monitor to the Mobo HDMI so I can use that as well as the Rift. But I don't want to keep the Rift plugged in at all times as I participate in very serious competitive racing simulators and I don't want to use the Rift for that. I am planning to upgrade to a GTX 1070 and was wondering if there is any 1070 with multiple HDMI outputs, as with my current setup (PC, desk & chair, room size, etc,) it is very annoying to unplug anything on the backside of the PC like HDMI etc. Thanks for all help!

I am preparing to build a system, and I don't want to pass anything up, however I do have a strict budget, that takes into account the prices of the 8700k and z370 mobo. I don't care that the case is garbage, because it won't affect anything. I want everyone that sees this to comment on if they think there are any glaring flaws in this build. The power supply and graphics card are from https://www.evga.com/products/productlist.aspx?type=8. I cannot afford an ssd right now, but I will add one in the near future, and this build will be for VR gaming, specifically Project Cars 2. Please don't say "Ryzen", or "not 1080ti". Pcpartpicker: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Otterman366/saved/q8sqsY Edit: you can make the 650w evga a corsair cxm 550

So i've seen things about cheap full-room vr stuff. I've seen one solution using a program called trinusvr to stream your screen onto your phone and your phone's gyroscopic data to your computer. There's also an option for position tracking, which apparently allows for a full-room vr experience using cameras and led's. Pair this with some tracked controllers and you may be able to get a htc vive-ish solution for vr! It might be an interesting vlog-style video. Please bump this if you agree!

I'd like to see someone test just how many oculus sensors could be hooked up to a computer and work with the rift. I'm using one more than they tell you you can so who knows how many you could actually hook up. This would be a good task for the mobo from that 7 gamers one pc build by filling all of those extra video card slots with the recommended startech USB expansion cards from the oculus roomscale extra equipment blog post since those cards work in just about any slot bigger than x4. The cheaper inatek card would only really work for 2 sensors each from my experience. That's 4 sensors per card if it's the 4 controller startech card across 6 pcie slots if I remember correctly. 24 sensors not including the onboard USBs. you could get some real data by monitoring compositor frame rate drops by activating the overlay with the oculus debug tool. My hunch is that as you add more sensors, they would get worse. Anyways, something I wish someone else would test since I can't afford to do it. I bet the oculus software would go haywire if you tried it but boy would that be a fun thing to watch

With today's Windows 10 Fall Creators Update going live, virtual reality (sorry Microsoft, Windows Mixed Reality) gains another player. And with Microsoft's purchase of AltspaceVR, and tie into XBox games (Halo: Recruit as a free download), this might be interesting. I'm particularly interested in the possibility of better headset designs, building on the HTC and Oculus experiences. I particularly like the one offered by Samsung (Odyssey). At $499, it offers resolution of 1440 x 1600 per eye (verses 1080 x 1200 for Vive), 60/90 fps framerate, 110 degree field of view and an AMOLED display, plus built-in AKG headphones. No external room sensors used, just cameras and sensors in the headset. I've been holding off buying any VR headset for some time, but have preordered this one for shipment Nov. 10. Main concern is short term amount of software that will be available for the Microsoft Mixed Reality platform and whether the camera based system will work as well as the Vive room sensor system. But I will find out! Not affiliated with Samsung or Microsoft in any way. https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/17/16487936/microsoft-joins-the-vr-battle-with-windows-mixed-reality-today https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-mixed-reality https://seekingalpha.com/news/3299116-microsoft-roundup-vr-acquisition-halo-recruit-launch-date-new-samsung-headset

I'm surprised there isn't a VR section here yet since there's so much to talk about how about it? I wanted to make a post warning people not to use the fresco registry fix in the Oculus tray tool for example because it caused a ton of issues on my system for example. All sorts of stuff to discuss on that topic. Would be a good time I think.

Just curious of what people's thoughts are on this. I went with VR and am waiting for higher refresh rate 4k monitors and just for them to get cheaper too. I care a lot about frame rates so I wouldn't buy one yet. Plus, I figured virtual reality is more fun that just higher resolutions. I wasn't disappointed. I still wish I had a 4k monitor though Either or is a good answer really. To each their own. Just kind of want to see what other people think.

I see the price of the Oculus Rift is now only $399 but I'm worried it's going to go up after summer. I'm planning to buy one at the end of the year because i'll get a VR-ready pc at that time. Anyone know anything?

While looking up a direction for my career I ended on the MIT site. I found a feed that displays many of what some of them are doing in a particular field. I found this title " Enabling wireless virtual reality." Honestly the thought of being able to replace the HDMI cable with this device would be spectacular! http://www.eecs.mit.edu/news-events/media/enabling-wireless-virtual-reality

So far I'm not having any luck getting an HTC vive on eBay at a reasonable price. In my area there's a dude that's selling an oculus rift with the touch controllers and a 3rd sensor for $500 on Craigslist. (my budget is $550 btw) I know what you're thinking, "you can't trust anyone on Craigslist and you'll get scammed". Okay? The same could go with eBay too. I'm going to have him test it at my place to see if everything works. I don't feel like waiting for shipping and taxes atm so idk. I used to be leaning towards the Vive with its great tracking, but the price is just too steep. And the controllers are weird.... Any suggestions or advice? I'm using this for VR game development and a few productivity projects as well.

Oculus Rift? HTC Vive? This is not a post where I am trying to get advice for something I will never get, I have the money, I just want to know if I am making the right decision. I am interested in getting an Oculus Rift because there is a really good deal* at the moment for it and the touch controllers in a bundle for £399 (also $399 USD). So Oculus / Vive owners; Also I have read about the screen door effect** is it a huge massive issue? Or do only some people notice it? Is it worth it to invest into virtual reality, is the resolution of the headset worth it? Do you have any issues with your particular headset? Are they good products?... Were they worth the money?... Would you recommend?... Please comment and be honest, and even if you do criticize your particular headset, is it still worth getting? Thank you for any response submitted; Tom. * https://www.oculus.com/rift/ (On home page) ** https://www.vrheads.com/what-screen-door-effect-and-why-does-it-happen

I do not think that this is the right thread to ask this in but here I go Is the DK2 still relevant in the vr industry because I have come upon a listing of a DK2 headset for 150 bucks and I was wondering if it is a good deal or not and if it is still worth it to buy it or should I just save up for a cv1 instead because it has the touch controller and it is newer with a higher resolution and refresh rate. is it worth buying still My Specs, FX-8300 16 gb ddr3 2400mhz Gigabyte 990fx mobo EVGA GTX 980 classified kingpin EVGA 750 watt 80+titanium psu (if that matters)

https://www.kitguru.net/tech-news/featured-tech-news/matthew-wilson/oculus-to-launch-200-standalonewireless-rift-headset/ https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-13/facebook-said-to-plan-200-wireless-oculus-vr-headset-for-2018 Bloomberg are reporting that Facebook plans to release their standalone, wireless Oculus Rift headset in 2018 for the much lower price of $200. This seems to be 'heard on the grapevine' rumour information, as the article contains a lot of - 'a person familiar with the plans' sources. However, it seems a sensible suggestion that Facebook will be aiming around this price arena, which is not too far from Samsung's Gear pricing, however without the need for a $700 smartphone to power it. It is reported to be using a Snapdragon processor of some sort but no confirmation on that from Qualcomm. This seems to be an entertainment focused device, with suggestions that people will carry them for watching films on planes, much as you might with a tablet. For gaming, it will likely be more powerful than something like the GearVR, but obviously a far cry from the full PC VR experience of the current Rift. Importantly, it will not have the positional tracking technology. What do folks think about a $200 VR media consumption device? Could this slot into a gap in the market?
