  1. I would like to get some feedback and input from the community (and LMG itself if I could ? ) on some plans I had for making a really cool [network/systems/setup] for my planned house (not my current house as I want to build a house when I get enough money and time scrapped together). My setup isn't intended to be the biggest or best, just something that meets my intended needs for a few years without needing upgrades. Thoughts and suggestions on Hardware, Software, Design and/or Implementation Instructions are all welcome. I know some stuff on a lot of different things, but with this communities help I know I can get better. I also know their is some sweet refurbished and used deals to be had on enterprise equipment, but since I'm not doing this immediately those deals will be long gone. If you want to recommend one and provide the reasoning based on the hardware/software that would be helpful so I can look for a similar deal when i start purchasing. First thing is I want a 4 post server rack for easy management and a central location for everything that can be sound "proofed" (at least reduced a lot). I know this will make my cable runs a lot longer, but I figure I will either keep things 20% within their maximum run limits (HDMI is 50' so that means 40') and except additional latency or add repeaters inline. Unless anyone knows a way to get a DIY modem that's not much more, I'll do a store bought ($180 for a Netgear CM1000 for gigabit internet). Which I might not get gigabit internet, unless the price is right. I'd also have a router which again I think I'd like to have a personally built router in a 2U server chassis, but a regular server mountable 24 port router will probably be cheaper. I need to connect a lot of items upto (4 desktops, 1 media server, 1 modem, 1 printer, 2 consoles, 6 smart TVs, 4 WiFi access points and then a security system or several IP cameras or both). I know Linus has gone pf-sense which sounds great, but I'm open to other options. Of course a custom gaming pc is on the list! I'm thinking a large 4U case to easily accommodate everything. I'm thinking a really good system, but just below enthusiast. Something like {processor with 12-16 threads, 3GHz+ base clock; mobo with 2 M.2 M-key NVMe SSD slots, 4 DIMM slots, 3 PCIe 3.0 x16 slots; RAM 2x16GB, 3200MHz, CAS14; PSU fully modular, 700+W; Powerful Video Card; Boot SSD 2TB, NVMe 3.0x4; Acceleration SSD 512GB, NVME 3.0x4; HDD 7200 RPM, 5TB; Windows 10 Pro; a few case fans; a case (custom if there is nothing that works)}. I would have the cabling to a nearby room for three monitors; 7 port usb hub for keyboard, mouse, speakers, headset, mic and flash drives; a second usb hub/cable & an HDMI cable for VR. A second gaming pc for the wife of course ?! Still large 4U but not as good (she doesn't play that much and she wouldn't want to spend the extra to match mine) something like {processor with 4-12 threads, 2.5GHz+ base clock; mobo with 2 M.2 M-key NVMe SSD slots, 4 DIMM slots, 3 PCIe 3.0 x16 slots; RAM 2x8GB, 3200MHz, CAS14; PSU fully modular, 500+W; Great Video Card; Boot SSD 2TB, NVMe 3.0x4; Acceleration SSD 512GB, NVME 3.0x4; HDD 7200 RPM, 5TB; Windows 10 Pro; a few case fans; a case (custom to get it right if there is nothing that works)}. I would have the cabling to a nearby room for two monitors; 7 port usb hub for keyboard, mouse, speakers, headset, mic and flash drives; a second usb hub/cable & an HDMI cable for VR. Additional desktops, but those will be later when the kids are old enough to game with us. A plex media server, I am a pass subscription holder. This would be better in someways to my gaming system, I want to be able for the entire family to watch stuff and potentially all transcoding. Something like {processor with 12-16 threads, high clock rate; mobo with 1 M.2 M-key NVMe SSD slot, 4 DIMM slots, 2 PCIe 3.0 x16 slots; RAM 2x16GB, 3200MHz, CAS14; PSU fully modular, 700+W; Boot SSD 512GB, NVME 3.0x4; HDD x8, 7200 RPM, 10TB; Windows Server; a few case fans; a case}. My thought is to load up windows 10 (pro so I can remote into it) and plex server on the ssd (could go sata but intel 660p is cheap and faster as long as I only use like 1/2 the drive, which probably wont do that much), then use storage pool trick to "RAID 10" the HDDs (http://www.cornercoregeeks.com/2013/06/tricking-windows-and-create-software_23.html) thus allowing me to add drives as needed. Unless I'm wrong on something and you can add drives to a hardware raid 10 without reformatting everything. I'm probably going to go crazy with providing ports to every room in the house, but I also want to do Wifi. I'm thinking of doing 4 "router" really just access points {1 each for the two large capacity spaces (family and living rooms); 1 for the rest of the house; 1 for the back patio}. I plan to have a console or two, printer and like 4-8 tvs (some smart and some not). A security "system" whether its a bought and ready to go or lots of POE IP cams that I connect to a switch and house another server to deal with. I do like the phone accessibility and two way communication features and also want to record to my own storage without some stupid monthly fee. A friend recommended the blue iris approach and that i pick out a POE switch and some cameras. I also like the idea of smart lighting in and out side of my house. I currently have 4 Philips Hue light bulbs I've tried out with a bridge that i really like. If I was to do it for my planned house though I'm guessing I would need about 150+ lights (bulbs and strips) and 25+ switches which means 3+ hubs. This is a ridiculous bill if I solely use Hue lights and devices. That's what I have priced below, but definitely don't plan on doing it, just need something to beat ?. My guess is IFTTT somehow. I also saw BLE beacons which I could incorporate in my house and have cheap BLE wrist tags for family and guests and then do proximity based lighting and effects (super dreaming here, but the online community has worked magic before). Currently here is what I'm thinking: Rack: $195 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132075 Rack Rails: $137 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JZCWX3Q/ref=sspa_dk_hqp_detail_aax_0?psc=1 (x4) Rack Shelf: $29 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008LUW45K/ref=sspa_dk_hqp_detail_aax_0?psc=1 Rack Patch Panel: $65 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAHFE86U1281 Modem: $190 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825124028&Description=netgear cm1000&cm_re=netgear_cm1000-_-25-124-028-_-Product Router: $351 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABMT6SF7840&ignorebbr=1 Media Server: $4275 PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant Type Item Price CPU Intel - 3. Hi, I have the X370 MSI Pro Carbon Motherboard. The motherboard have a lighting that lights up its io cover and the heatsinks. using it for 2 years now and suddenly the lighting is not light up anymore. There's a time I reset the bios and changing the fan somehow making the lighting turn backs on but after turning on and off my pc multiple times, the lighting is turned back off. I have try: i. Changing all fan from motherboard to PSU. ii. Format Windows 10 multiple times. iii. Reset bios. Update/change bios version. iv. Run all Bios setting on default. v: Reduce the use of power (turning off OC, plug off HDD and use minimal fan) vi: Check the setting on MSI Gaming App. Nothing works. Does my motherboard reach its end even though I didn't face other problems beside the lighting on the motherboard? 4. Hi I'm new to the RGB lighting world and I'm been trying to find a solution to syncing my fans with my motherboard I have 12 thermaltake trios 12 and 3 trio 14 The motherboard is a z390m gaming edge AC and I would like to try sync it all with mystic light so all my lights work with msi gtx 2070 super My plan was to buy 5 TT sync boxes run 3 fans into each box run them thru 2 ARGB hubs connected to both jrainbow headers on the motherboard I'm really looking to know 1. Is this possible 2. Is there a way to do it with less TT sync boxes 3. Can anyone recommend a good ARGB hub to get this all to work If anyone can help it would be much appreciated I'm having a hard time getting my head around all this
  5. Hey Guys, I have recently bought a HP x360 which has a keyboard backlight. My problem is, that it turns off after 30 seconds of not being used, which destroys the whole purpose of it for me. So I was wondering, if it was even possible to control this feature, and if so if there is a software, a guide or atleast a starting point (for me) for this. Thank you in advance for your answers
  6. I use Dialux, Revit, relux and occasionaly 3dsmax and SketchUp. Currently using https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-7700HQ-1060-6GB-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_2 Looking to build something for 1000-1300 USD. Unsure of what to get , please help! ?
  7. Hey there! Long time viewer of the channel here. Great content, lots to watch, and enjoy the shenanigans you all get up to. With that introduction out of the way, I had a question that I searched for but couldn't find an answer to anywhere, at least not one that answered my question(s). I'm currently waiting on all of the parts for my new rig to come in and I had an interesting thought. Before I get to the thought, a bit of background: The case I went for was the Cooler Master C700M with a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite Motherboard. I've done some research and found that the case lights can be controlled by the motherboard software but the thought I had was what if I could control external RGB lighting with that same software along with the case, motherboard, and everything connected to it--that way everything syncs together. What I've found is a few controllers that seem to add lighting to cases that don't have any, but nothing that outright says that it can sync up to external RGB lighting in a room with existing RGB controllers on a motherboard or even through USB with drivers/plugins/software etc. I'm wondering if anyone knows of something that I can use to do this. I'm looking into this because while I don't have a lot of people watching my streams, I figure a cool background with pulsing RGB lighting that matches the case and motherboard lighting would look pretty cool. Thanks in advance! Looking forward to your replies! (Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, if so, please direct me to the correct place, thanks ^_^) -Edge
  8. Hi, I have tried everything I can think of to get this working. It's a bit of a long winded situation that I will try and explain and I really hope someone can help. Before we get in to it, I am aware that the gigabyte software is SH@# but we have no other software to use to control the mobo lighting. My System Deets: Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic XL Corsair RM850i 850W 80 Plus Gold Certified Fully Modular Desktop Power Supply Gigabyte X570 AORUS MASTER AMD AM4 Rev 1.0 AMD Ryzen 9 3900X G.Skill F4-3600C16D-32GTZRC Trident Z RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3600MHz CL16 Samsung MZ-V7S1T0B 970 EVO Plus 1TB NVMe M.2 2280 Western Digital WD4003FFBX Pro Red 4TB SATA Galax GeForce RTX 2080 Ti HOF 28IULBUCV6HF 11GB GDDR6 NZXT RL-KRX72-01 Kraken X72 360mm All-In-One Closed Loop CPU Cooler 7X Corsair CO-9050041-WW ML120 Pro 120mm Fans Corsair CL-9011110 Commander Pro All-In-One Controller Windows 10 Professional 64Bit 1909 (OS Build 18363.592) BIOS Version is latest F11 (Release date: 2019-12-09) Nothing has been OC'd as yet So, yesterday I noticed that everytime I tried opening the RGB Fusion app, it would say "Please Wait..." and then just exit. the same would happen with the Trident Z lighting control Software. So I started the whole troubleshooting saga and eventually Completely uninstalled ALL Gigabyte software and G.Skill Trident Z Lighting Control Software. I used CCleaner to remove any remnants of files and cleaned up the registry as well. I also manually scanned my entire drive for an anything related to RGB Fusion and G.Skill I then reinstalled the RGB Fusion software and I was surprised to see it work. However, NOW I can only control my mobo RGB and not the RAM. The RAM is now stuck on RAINBOW. So I figured, well I don't care, I will anyway control the RAM using the Triden Z Lighting Control software but when I started the G.Skill app, it also opened now but shows NO RAM sticks to manage. So then I realise that the RAM is now not being detected. And so I start becoming concerned that maybe CCleaner has borked my drivers or OS or something but then I realised that this all started BEFORE I touched CCleaner so..... I shut the machine down, removed and reseated the RAM sticks and tried again....NOTHING Then I shut the machine down, cleared the CMOS and reset the BIOS settings and tried again....NOTHING I then ran sfc /scannow from the command line as administrator....NOTHING I then ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth from the command line as adminstrator....NOTHING I tried REINSTALLING the Chipset drivers and reboot....NOTHING Then I look over to the LED display on my Galax 2080 ti HOF and notice that the display info is not showing. So... I check if the Xtreme Tuner software is running and it is. So I open up the app and exit it and restart it and the LED display STILL shows NOTHING. So now I am at a loss...I don't know where to from here.... Has anyone got ANY suggestions for me?? I would really appreciate someones help here.
  9. I have a Razer Blackwidow V2 I dont really know how to describe this but all the lights on my keyboard work, but for some reason the lights slowly disable themselves. If I take the USB out and then place it back in all the lights work however within a few minutes the lights start disableing, usually chunks of the lights disable at the same time. What i mean by that is that all the keys like qwertasdfzxcv would disable at the same time. At the moment I have lighting over the (home del ins buttons and the buttons like equal backspace and the keys below them, all the rest are disabled. Things I have tried- Reinstalling Razer Synapse - Going into device manager and deleting keyboard driver - restarting PC (Recurring issue) - Thanks for any help
  10. Hello, I have recently bought a new motherboard (Asus Strix B450-F) and it has only 4 pin RGB headers on it. I also bought a Deepcool Castle 240 the RGB cable connects to a 3 pin RGB header. Does anyone know of any adapters or anything that I could buy to get it to work? I have also attached image of the cable the cooler came with.
  11. Does anyone know of a uv/black light led strip that connects to the rgb header, and is magnetic? I cant find one anywhere.
  12. Idea for new Linus tech tips video :-) Samsung Smartthings, Xiaomi Mi home, Apple HomeKit, Ikea? :D What is the best? Why? :-) Thanks!
  13. Hello everyone. Made a problem for myself. I have a pc, where cpu is cooled by Corsair Hydro Series H115i Pro RGB Liquid, so the problem is in rgb lighting. I accidently ejected H115i Platinum device from Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media icon on the taskbar. And now after powering on pc or restarting, the corsair app iCUE can't recognize the cooler and load the settings for it. I have to restart the application - only then cpu cooler is recognized and settings of lighting is loaded. I guess this happens because of that ejection... I tried to unplug the usb cable from cooler that goes to power supply. disabled the driver OFF/ON. Nothing helps. And I am here asking you guys, how can I solve this problem, how to bring this device back.
  14. I bought a gaming pc recently which has 4 rgb fans. The case is a FSP CMT 520. The problem is that all my fans are spinning, but the rgb lighting of the fourth isn't working. It wasn't working from the beginning but i didn't give it back because i really need a pc. What can cause the problem?
  15. Is it normal for Asus' Aura Sync software to not save its color profiles? Every time I want to shut down my computer with my system set to static red under the "sync at shutdown" tab, I have to apply these settings. When I boot my system it will not have the profile set that I had applied before shutting down. It even occurs when I just put my computer to sleep sometimes. Is anyone else having this issue? If so, what are some possible solutions?
  16. Considering the number of questions I've seen about RGB/LED/Lightingand how specific to that topic the questions usually are, I suggest that a separate sub be made for RGB. I noticed that this suggestion was made several times in 2017, but hasn't really been brought up since then (AFAIK). I have recently been trying to help out by answering questions about RGB since I have a lot of experience with different RGB technologies and an electrical engineering background, so it'd be nice to have them all housed in one place. RGB seems to be a growing facet of custom PC building, and it can be tricky knowing what to look for. I know that some questions could be easily answered in a single guide/stickied post, but users will always have certain situations that require more in-depth answers. RGB isn't always a trivial matter. The arguments that I can see against giving RGB its own place are as follows: The Modding sub-forum currently hosts RGB/LED/Lighting questions There are RGB and LED sections on the Modding FAQ thread (but I don't think they are extensive enough considering the breadth of the RGB topic and the different topics in the FAQ will sometimes overlap when providing a complete solution to a user's forum question. Also, that thread was started in 2016. Sorry, @W-L ) It can fit into other categories depending on what it's attached to (Cases, Air Cooling, Liquid Cooling, Motherboards/Memory, Peripherals, Graphics Cards) It may fit in Troubleshooting (but only really when someone has an issue) I personally think that the benefits of giving RGB/LED/Lighting its own sub-forum outweigh the risks of fragmentation, but I'd love to get more input form users and mods. Obviously regardless of user feedback, it's ultimately up to the mods who have the final word on this, so no pouty faces in the event that this suggestion falls through. One final thing I want to mention is that I'm not sure, if this sub were to be created, if RGB/LED/Lighting projects, builds, or peripherals would belong in it. I'd think that as long as you were discussing only the RGB/LED/Lighting aspects of those types of topics, it would be okay to post in the RGB/LED/Lighting sub-forum. Thanks for reading and the mods' consideration, and I respect the opinions of individuals and the final decision made on this proposal, no matter what they/it are/is.
  17. After seeing a few videos from Linus on streaming setup I decided top post this question here. My wife started a TikTok channel after the lockdown prevented her from pursing another business opportunity that was about to get off the ground. She is doing well with consistent growth and I've being buying hardware to support her channel. She records and edits on a Huawei P30 pro and doesn't want to edit on her MacBook Pro. I ordered a few things for her when she hit previous milestones and she is happy with her audio and tripods. Rode SmartLav+ w/ USB C to 3.5mm adapter Joby GripTight GorillaPod Stand PRO JOBY JB01550-BWW TelePod Mobile The main thing I want to upgrade now is her lighting. Sadly, we don't have the space for a dedicated recording area with box lights. The lighting needs to be easy to use and should not add significant delay to setup. As you can see in the photo, space is limited and she records from our dining room table. My computer is in the opposite corner. As she is about to hit another big milestone I'm looking to improve her lighting. I would like something small and easy to use. I've heard that the Elgato Air is good but they are £240 for a pair and I don't know how well they will work if the subject is farther away. I'm wondering if a ring light would be suitable. I've also seen that Chinese lanterns can be good but it seems difficult to get high CRI bulbs in the OK. As the content will be viewed on the phone, I don't think it requires the same level of hardware as 4k Youtube content. Does anyone have any suggestions? 18. I've got a quick question. I recently got our YouTube channel past 1,000 subscribers (real estate business), I've definitely gotten better at the editing side of fairly simple video production. However, one area that I need to improve on is lighting. I'm curious about the lighting that is used in the LTT videos which always look amazing. I guess specifically I'm wondering what the types of lights are that Linus used in a semi-recent video where he updated his at-home streaming setup. He was using some pro lights that looks like florescent lighting tubes (not the Elgato flat lights). I took a screenshot which is attached. Anyone know what models of lights these are? They seem to be relying on bouncing the light off the ceiling and walls of the room to create a diffused look. Any other general lighting advice is also more than welcome. Thanks!
  19. I was wondering if there is software that will allow me to create my own custom RGB patterns/effects for my fans. I've had a quick look around and cant seem to see anything. The fans I am using are upHere argb fans that came with a controller box but no software. I can control them through RGB Fusion 2.0 but cant find any way to create my own effects, I can only use the built in options in RGB Fusion or the ones on the controller. So is there software available that will let me go nuts on my fans or not?
  20. I got this light for my case that uses a molex cable for power(I think), I plugged in my peripheral molex cable into my PSU but the cable that the light came with is the same cable, so I have no idea where to plug it into. The cable with red and white cables is the one for my new light, and the black cable is the one from my PSU. I'm not sure where to plug the one with red and white cables into. Please help!!
  21. Hi! I started to buy parts for my next Gaming PC and I was wondering about this. CAM or LINK? I´ll explain myself. So far I bought the core components, cpu, psu, motherboard and storage, And I am thorn betwhen the netx steps. One of my ideas is : Corsar Vengeance Rgb Pro RAM+Corsair Lightloops+Commander Pro+Corsair or Phanteks case(prov Evolv X)+ Corsair rgb AiO or GSKILL Trident Z rgb+ NZXT HUE PLUS+ AER RGB FANS+ NZXT case(prob h700i)+ KRAKEN AiO To sum things, both lists are made with great components. However, the lighting ecosystems will be in only two softwares: Asus and CAM or LINK. Thoughts on this? Which ecosystem is better? I know that LINK has been updated not that very long ago, but I do not know if any of them has been really improved. Thanks in advance. And sorry for misspellings. English not my first languaje.
  22. If I plug in any random LED string into my Asus z370 A motherboard's RGB header will I get asus aura sync compatibility ? Because I did that and it doesn't seem to work at the moment and I am wondering if it is supposed to. *I am trying to control the strips that come with the Dark Base Pro rev.2 case.
  23. Hi, I am having an issue with my Zotac 1080ti Amp extreme GPU. I am pretty new to all of this, and I just recently built my first gaming PC. The Zotac 1080ti has the option of changing the RGB lighting with the software from Zotac. I have successfully done so, but for some reason the colors change back to all red once I am actually playing a game. (When I am at the menu/loading screens, the right colors are displayed on the GPU, but when I enter the actual game, it changes to all red.) I don't mind the color changing, but something tells me that this is some sort of indication or something. I don't get any warnings on my computer, and haven't seen my GPU temp go over 70 degrees C, but I have had Overwatch crash on me a few times. I haven't overclocked anything or changed any of the GPU/CPU settings. The only thing I have done is change my monitor and video settings to 100hz (up from 60). I have my games on the highest settings, but I don't change anything that is in the advanced section or anything. Does anyone have any advice for me? I would really appreciate it.
  24. So where to start. I wanted case lightning wich is not so easy because my Motherboard dosent have an rgb header. I did quick research and found myself buying an remote rgb Controller (Nanoxia rgb controller with remote control) as well as two (nanoxia rigid led rgb) strips i plugged it in and the very only thing that happend was that both stripes only gave an Yellow-isch collor the remote did absolutly nothing as wellto bad i thought and searched for another Controller this time it was an (phobya rgb flexlight) controller yet again i plugged everthing in and what happend now is that my stripes started to blink in red green and blue rapidly i really dont know what to do at this point. If anything is wrong here im sorry first time ever posting in a forum. Thanks
  25. I just gave in and wasted my money on some rgb led lights for my case because i saw my motherboard has a rbg led slot. I installed mystic Lights because that's the software supported by my MSI motherboard but I don't like the lack of options and integration. I was wondering if there is anyway someone has found to sync case lighting to other lighting applications. For instance I have the Logitech gaming software and that is fully intergraded into my games and applications, I just want a way to add my case lighting to the same synchronization. Any advice would be helpful
