Just as the title says. My ASRock Z68 Pro-3 M motherboard just finally ate it. So, I am left with my first CPU i5-2500k and 16gb of DDR3 that I would like to re-purpose into NAS duty. Thinking this U-NAS case would be a good option for me. My question is, what motherboard would y'all recommend? The front runner from a little bit of my shopping is the ASUS P8P67-M PRO. It has 7 sata ports (... not sure if I should be using onboard or getting a raid card...) advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Alright, so I've had my P8Z68 and i5-2500k for quite some time. Happily overclocked to 4.3ghz for the last 6 months. While at idle, my computer locked up and BSOD'd me. I didn't catch the error, and just let the system reboot. From that moment on, trying to boot windows from my boot drive, flash drive, or install disc results in a Watchdog Exception error. I tried to reset the bios, and it decided to crap the bed half way through downgrading the bios from 3606 to 3402. So, I tried reflashing 3606. It EVENTUALLY boots into Asus EZ Flash, but the flash drive isn't detected. It only picks up my boot drive. So I slapped the bios update onto the boot drive and tried selecting that to flash. It runs for 2 seconds and then it resets again. I can occasionally get back to the EZ Flash page, but not consistently. One of the other errors that occurs is a CPU fan speed error (below 500RPM) and I can't do anything about that as every fan I connect to it results in that error until the CPU heats up slightly and the fan spins at a proper speed. Give me the diagnosis. Am I up the creek without a paddle? Or is there a way to salvage this board?

First of all, thank you for opening this topic to check it out.. I'm normally the guy that deals with the tech stuff alone but this time it's different, I can't figure it out. I'm unable to find the exact version of my motherboard, and therefore I cant update the bios for it to accept my new cpu. I've checked almost every variation of my motherboard on the asus websiete but in the downloadable "user manual" it never showed me the exact board I'm using. The specific thing I'm going on about is that I have 3x Sata 3gb Connections and 1x Sata 6gb connection. Almost 90% of the boards I checked the manuals of had Sata 3gb x4 , none of 3 of (3gb) and 1 of (6gb) So I never could find the exact bios to update the board, and I'm in a real dead-end here. I currently use a i5 2400 cpu, and in a few days I'll be getting a i7 3770, It's the same LGA 1155 socket, but I'm afraid if it'll work for me without a updated bios, as in the cpuZ , it shows the bios version was last updated 2011 -ish... and the i7 3770 was released a year or 2 later.. I don't know if my board will be damaged if I use the same socket CPU but it not being compatable, I'm really .. just lost.. I have no idea what I should do.. Some versions of my motherboard support 8gb of ram , some 16gb. Some support 2nd Gen i3 i5 i7 & 3rd Gen i3 i5 i7 ... I just really really need some help this time ... I can't do this on my own. My really old motherboard is just.. a real problem I guess. The information about my system I took snips and uploaded them as images. I'll check the topic frequently, multiple times a day... and if you decide to help me, thank you from the bottom of my heart, because I truely am really lost and confused on what might happen if my cpu and motherboard are same socket but not compatible due to the old bios version. If you can help in any way... please do , I would really really appericiate it.. And thank you again..

im looking for a motherboard thats ddr3 thats supports thew lga1155 intel i5 370k my older msi board has an issue where if it needs to restart i have to cut the power and remove and then return the cmos battery this causes the pc to only use vga output instead of hdmi so my gpu doesnt actually get to do anything as the vga is always the main outlet for video i can afford to upgrade everything which i know will be difficult but im hoping to atleast keep the ram and cpu the same for now due to affordability

Hello people, I'm trying to connect my Wacom Cintiq Pro with my PC. However, I noticed (i.e. I've read on the net) the connection via the included Wacom Link is very unstable, so I need a direct connection from the tablet to my system. The problem is, the tablet is using Thunderbolt 3 (to transmit Display-data and input data) and my 2011 rig does not have any Thunderbolt 3 output. I do have a Geforce GTX 970, which has a DisplayPort (already used by my monitor) and an HDMI output. What I've found on the internet was some PCIe card that would enable me to connect the Thunderbolt with my HDMI port from my graphics card (and potentially via USB port to my mainboard): https://www.asrock.com/mb/spec/product.asp?Model=Thunderbolt 3 AIC However, the problem is that this requires PCIe 3.0 lanes, but my Asus P8Z68-V Motherboard only has PCIe 2.0 lanes. I thought about upgrading my mainboard, but my i7 2600K requires a mainboard with a LGA1155 socket. And I can't afford upgrading my CPU at this time. So I wonder if any of you know any solutions? Maybe a mainboard that supports lga1155 and PCIe 3.0? Or a thunderbolt 3 card that supports PCIe 2.0? Or some other clever solution? Thanks a lot!

So i am building my own home nas system and i have the ddr3, case, processor, but i have bought 2 different motherboards (hp and dell) but they just wont work. The hp uses a proprietary power supply and the dell will not work with an ssd, nor will it word with a sata expansion card in the pcie(which i desperately need for this system)(optiplex 790 board updated to the lates bios) I need a board that is under 25 that will work with the above items. And i have been scouring ebay without any luck. Any ideas?

So what I'm planing is pretty simple. I'm trying to build something for my little brother. Main use would be stuff like twitch/youtube maybe flash games but nothing fancy. I was thinking of going with an LGA1155 or LGA1156 platform. But well I never used the LGA1156 platform but you guys might know which one is the better bang for the buck. For the LGA 1155 I was thinking about an 2500 or a 2310 (nothing fancy at all) and on the gpu side 560Ti. So yeah throw your thoughts and comments at me

I am looking for a large cooler that will fit my old zotac z77-itx motherboard. I am going to be ocing my 3770k to maybe 4.4 or 4.7. My case is bit fenix prodigy so the height is okay. I am looking for a tall cooler like the intel ts15 one. Before you recommend a cooler, this board is so restrictive that the cpu cooler needs to be 3.7x3.7x height doest matter dimensions. It needs to either look like a square or a cylinder. Please help!

Hello, I recently bought an Intel dh61cr board, in "working, but no video output" condition. After trying to turn it on several times, I understood, that the bios flash for the last owner went badly. The board without ram turns on and stays on. With ram it keeps restarting constantly. If I take out the "bios cfg" shorting pin, which should turn on recovery mode for the bios, the board stays on, but that's about it. I tried the Bios recovery thing on intel's website. With the bios file in the usb, it just doesn't work (doesn't read the usb, because it's light isn't flashing). T.y. in advance

Hi, I just bought Cooler master Vortex 211P but I cant insert it into the socket. I have an hp pro 2nd, 3rd gen lga 1155 motherboard. In the picture, You can see the 4 holes where the cooler is inserted, It has 4 screw holder like rings where the screw goes in, I guess those are blocking the thumbpins of the cooler. please I could use some help. THANKS!! the mother is a foxconn 2abf hp pro lga 1155. You can see the picture of my board.

Hey waddup y'all! I just got my first component of my first build! Its the Biostar TP67XE Extreme board. I got it pretty cheap for 60$ but I can't figure the use of an extra 8 pin connector for the CPU. Now I will be overclocking my 2600k but I am not sure if there is a need to connect the extra 8 pin connector. If anyone has used this board please do mention I about it. I am not scared or anything and I also know it will work just fine with one connector, just wanted to ask if its really necessary, thanks!

I have a great offer from a friend for a 2700K which runs on the LGA1155 socket to include in a new build. The downside however is there are few to none available new LGA1155 motherboards that would allow for overclocking, leaving me with refurbished and used options. What are folks experiences with refurbished and used motherboards? For instance, Zake.com is a refurbisher that sells a lot of refurb LGA1155 mobo through Newegg. Any tips or things to keep of note as I try to see what mobo best fits my needs?

I need some help choosing what to do... I have two oldish machines, First is: Core2 Duo E8400 (6M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) 8GB DDR2 Kingston HyperX RAM GIGABYTE GA-EP43C-DS3 Motherboard Second is: Celeron G1620 (2M Cache, 2.70 Ghz, (cant find FSB for it)) 8GB DDR3 Kingston RAM ASRock H61M-DGS Motherboard Parts for either machine: XFX AMD Radeon HD 7870 Core Edition 1GHz 2GB 250GB Samsung 850EVO SSD 650W PSU Extra money of around £70-80 ($100ish) The problem I'm having is deciding which machine should I build into a low end gaming machine, I don't intend on playing the latest and greatest games. So far the combination I thought of was to use the ASRock, DDR3, HD7870 and see if I can find a cheap i7 or i5 online somewhere. Any help would be great

Im tinkering with my new computer (boght used) and i was going to OC the CPU (never done it before). I know that "K" CPU's can be overclocked. So i started doing some tests with Cinebench. My CPU's core speed was 4300MHz as you can see in the picture. I read that the max turbo frequency (stock) of the I5 2500K was 3.7 GHz, but mine turboed up to 4.3GHz. Does this mean that my cpu is already overclocked? Tnx in advance for helping me understand (I know the cable management is sloppy, but it came like this and im waiting for a new PSU)
