Hello everyone, My I5-3330 is starting to be struggling in some games, and I would like to upgrade the CPU in order to get a bit more life out of my ageing PC with the Intel DH77KC motherboard. I am hunting for some kind of upgrade, and today a Xeon E3-1270 v2 popped up locally for around 15 dollars. Unfortunately, from the websites I found, this Xeon is not officially supported, even though others, such as 1275 v2, are. Should I take a risk and try getting the CPU? I have recently had success with putting some Xeons into LGA1156 after BIOS updates, even though they were not officially supported. As far as I know, I also updated the bios a few years back, but since the Intel forums are inaccessible without login now, I cannot confirm this (I am not sure whether I updated the drivers only or also did the BIOS update), so I will wait until you guys help out before wasting a bit more time. But if you have a good source for the Intel bioses, I would also highly appreciate the suggestion. Is there a good chance for this to work, or are Intel boards problematic in this regard? I think the price is not that bad even to try it and resell it in the worst case, but I bet there is someone more knowledgeable here who knows the answer directly. Any help, suggestions, or past experience would be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance, and have a nice day!

Ordered a super cheap Dell Optiplex 790 motherboard on eBay for $12.99 USD to begin my very inexpensive NAS build. I’ve built a Haswell i5 video editing rig a few years ago using a mobo from an HP pavilion and it worked almost flawlessly. I cannot get this system to POST. No video output direct from motherboard or from pcie DVI graphics card. When PSU is switched on, fans will pulse without shorting the power pins, and 2/3 boards will give a 4 short beep error code. No matter what I do, I cannot figure out what the issue is. I have tried 3 separate motherboards. 2 of which were identical from a Dell Optiplex 790. And one was an Acer motherboard. All use the LGA1155 socket. I have used 2 or 3 separate power supplies that I know work for sure and have worked with other systems just fine. I ordered an i5 and then an i3 both LGA1155 to try to rule out the cpu causing the issue - same with both. I ordered DDR3 that said “server ram” in the title and thought maybe this was the issue.. but then took 2 4GB sticks of DDR3 Out of my working Haswell build to try to rule out the ram. Still nothing. Still just running the cpu fan as soon as it’s plugged in or pulsing the fans with no video output at all. I feel like it’s nearly impossible for three Motherboards, two CPUs, two PSUs, and two sets of ram to not have any combination that works or at least outputs to display. I feel like I must be missing something really stupid.

I found a deal on some hardware and am curious on if my current waterblock for my lga 1155 cpu would work for a LGA 2066 cpu? I see that most blocks look to be compatible, just not sure of the actual mounting hardware. Cheers.

im looking for a motherboard thats ddr3 thats supports thew lga1155 intel i5 370k my older msi board has an issue where if it needs to restart i have to cut the power and remove and then return the cmos battery this causes the pc to only use vga output instead of hdmi so my gpu doesnt actually get to do anything as the vga is always the main outlet for video i can afford to upgrade everything which i know will be difficult but im hoping to atleast keep the ram and cpu the same for now due to affordability

My Dad has an old Acer Aspire X3995 tower that we'd like to repurpose as a NAS for storing and streaming movies. The problem is that the motherboard is fried and we need to replace it, so I've been looking online for some new boards. According to Acer's spec sheet, the X3995 (back then) had an Ivy Lake CPU, an LGA 1155 socket and a B75 chipset. However, having hung around in r/buildapc for a while and having seen a lot of B450 vs X570 boards, I think that I might be able to get away with an H61 board (as I can't find a B75 board online). Am I correct in assuming that the CPU needs to be compatible with the socket and not the chipset?

Just as the title says. My ASRock Z68 Pro-3 M motherboard just finally ate it. So, I am left with my first CPU i5-2500k and 16gb of DDR3 that I would like to re-purpose into NAS duty. Thinking this U-NAS case would be a good option for me. My question is, what motherboard would y'all recommend? The front runner from a little bit of my shopping is the ASUS P8P67-M PRO. It has 7 sata ports (... not sure if I should be using onboard or getting a raid card...) advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Alright, so I've had my P8Z68 and i5-2500k for quite some time. Happily overclocked to 4.3ghz for the last 6 months. While at idle, my computer locked up and BSOD'd me. I didn't catch the error, and just let the system reboot. From that moment on, trying to boot windows from my boot drive, flash drive, or install disc results in a Watchdog Exception error. I tried to reset the bios, and it decided to crap the bed half way through downgrading the bios from 3606 to 3402. So, I tried reflashing 3606. It EVENTUALLY boots into Asus EZ Flash, but the flash drive isn't detected. It only picks up my boot drive. So I slapped the bios update onto the boot drive and tried selecting that to flash. It runs for 2 seconds and then it resets again. I can occasionally get back to the EZ Flash page, but not consistently. One of the other errors that occurs is a CPU fan speed error (below 500RPM) and I can't do anything about that as every fan I connect to it results in that error until the CPU heats up slightly and the fan spins at a proper speed. Give me the diagnosis. Am I up the creek without a paddle? Or is there a way to salvage this board?

First of all, thank you for opening this topic to check it out.. I'm normally the guy that deals with the tech stuff alone but this time it's different, I can't figure it out. I'm unable to find the exact version of my motherboard, and therefore I cant update the bios for it to accept my new cpu. I've checked almost every variation of my motherboard on the asus websiete but in the downloadable "user manual" it never showed me the exact board I'm using. The specific thing I'm going on about is that I have 3x Sata 3gb Connections and 1x Sata 6gb connection. Almost 90% of the boards I checked the manuals of had Sata 3gb x4 , none of 3 of (3gb) and 1 of (6gb) So I never could find the exact bios to update the board, and I'm in a real dead-end here. I currently use a i5 2400 cpu, and in a few days I'll be getting a i7 3770, It's the same LGA 1155 socket, but I'm afraid if it'll work for me without a updated bios, as in the cpuZ , it shows the bios version was last updated 2011 -ish... and the i7 3770 was released a year or 2 later.. I don't know if my board will be damaged if I use the same socket CPU but it not being compatable, I'm really .. just lost.. I have no idea what I should do.. Some versions of my motherboard support 8gb of ram , some 16gb. Some support 2nd Gen i3 i5 i7 & 3rd Gen i3 i5 i7 ... I just really really need some help this time ... I can't do this on my own. My really old motherboard is just.. a real problem I guess. The information about my system I took snips and uploaded them as images. I'll check the topic frequently, multiple times a day... and if you decide to help me, thank you from the bottom of my heart, because I truely am really lost and confused on what might happen if my cpu and motherboard are same socket but not compatible due to the old bios version. If you can help in any way... please do , I would really really appericiate it.. And thank you again..

I have an old hp I'm putting together as a simple internet browsing machine for my parents. I bought a new heat sink from amazon that is supposed to be quiet. However, I'm not 100% sure it will work. I'll have to swap the actually fan from the aluminum it came with to fit and this isnt the issue. The issue is that someone on a different ltt board said that I could potentially fry my board. I have absolutely no experience with this stuff so be very descriptive please. Both use the 4 pin plug but that's all I really know. Attached a pic of mobo incase there is a number you can pull an answer from. Thanks guys (and or girls).

Hello. I have an I7-3770 and need a new or used gaming motherboard for socket LGA 1155. I don't have any budget really but would rather have a black coloured motherboard to fit in with the rest of my setup, so far I am looking at the ASRock > Z68 Extreme3 Gen3. Please leave any questions below and I will attempt to answer them as quickly as possible. Thanks, Bullzy.

Can I Place a LGA1155 CPU in a LGA1156 motherboard socket...If not, is there any adapter to do this??

So what I'm planing is pretty simple. I'm trying to build something for my little brother. Main use would be stuff like twitch/youtube maybe flash games but nothing fancy. I was thinking of going with an LGA1155 or LGA1156 platform. But well I never used the LGA1156 platform but you guys might know which one is the better bang for the buck. For the LGA 1155 I was thinking about an 2500 or a 2310 (nothing fancy at all) and on the gpu side 560Ti. So yeah throw your thoughts and comments at me

Hello people, I'm trying to connect my Wacom Cintiq Pro with my PC. However, I noticed (i.e. I've read on the net) the connection via the included Wacom Link is very unstable, so I need a direct connection from the tablet to my system. The problem is, the tablet is using Thunderbolt 3 (to transmit Display-data and input data) and my 2011 rig does not have any Thunderbolt 3 output. I do have a Geforce GTX 970, which has a DisplayPort (already used by my monitor) and an HDMI output. What I've found on the internet was some PCIe card that would enable me to connect the Thunderbolt with my HDMI port from my graphics card (and potentially via USB port to my mainboard): https://www.asrock.com/mb/spec/product.asp?Model=Thunderbolt 3 AIC However, the problem is that this requires PCIe 3.0 lanes, but my Asus P8Z68-V Motherboard only has PCIe 2.0 lanes. I thought about upgrading my mainboard, but my i7 2600K requires a mainboard with a LGA1155 socket. And I can't afford upgrading my CPU at this time. So I wonder if any of you know any solutions? Maybe a mainboard that supports lga1155 and PCIe 3.0? Or a thunderbolt 3 card that supports PCIe 2.0? Or some other clever solution? Thanks a lot!
