Hey guys thanks for the help earlier, I have now decided that I am gonna get another GTX 970 in my rig but I am not sure my 650 watt powersupply can handle it, and I would ask if you guys could help me on the math here. Rig specs: i7 4790K Asus Ranger motherboard 16Gb fury x ram DvD writer 2tb HDD seagate 250gb SSD kingston GTX 970 MSI OC (To be added 970) GTX 970 ASUS TURBO OC 650 watt corsair power supply Would the powersupply be powerfull enough ?

On the intel site, in the 4790k's specs, there is 16 as the max number of pci-e lanes. If I install a gtx 970 on my pc, does this mean I can't add anything else such as an audio card or a Wifi card?

So i have been having problem with i7 4790k for the last several days. It all started when there was problem with shifting time back on my Asus z97-AR motheboard, and after switching CMOS battery with the other pc and reinstalling windows the problem was still there so i decided to try and reset BIOS again. After coming from the shop i did notice smell of something burned up, turned off both PCs, took out battery from 1st PC and waited for 10-15 minutes. I will note that before turning systems off both were running ok and didn't seem to have any problems. After putting new battery in I tried turning system on, but there was no video signal at all. I tried swiching videocards between two PCs which didn't turn out to make any difference- 2nd PC was fine, while 1st one didn't have any response. My first believe was that there was problem with the original motherboard so i contacted ASUS. We established that most likely problem was with the board due to error (led light which was responsible for memory testing was staying on; cpu test was passing). I tried launching with 2nd (Corsair 1600) memory, but the result was the same. After that I took out the 2nd system and tried testing it with those components. On that motherboard and with either set of memory system was starting fine (although was lauching only after i plugged boot SSDs in) with i5 4690k, but as soon as i plugged i7 4790k nothing happened. No boot, no post, not even audio signal that system was starting to turn on... I did some cross-testing, with the other two motherboards i had (Asus z97-AR which is being RMAed and old MSI z87-g43) and two sets of memory i had but still no result. So i had to contact Intel about that problem, because problem seemed to be with the current I7 and they agreed to RMA it. I recieved new I7 and decided to try and test it out before assembling system again. And... nothing happening again. So as for now problem seems to be in i7 itself, rather then in just this particular i7. I just tried using the CX750 psu instead of RM1000 (may be problem was just in the particular CPU power cable which was not delivering enough power for i7 but enough for i5?...) but still the same: i5 booting ok, when i7 doesnt have any response at all. The original setup for the 1st PC: * i7 4790k * Asus z97-AR * 2 sticks of G.skill 2133 MHz * Video: Gigabyte HD 7970 GHz edition * PSU: Corsair RM1000 * Booting SSD: Samsung 840 Pro The setup for the 2nd (backup) PC: * i5 4690k * Asus VI hero * 2 stick of Corsair 1600MHz * Video: Gigabyte HD 7970 GHz edition * PSU: Corsair CX750 * Booting SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 3rd motherboard used for testing: MSI z87-G43 p.s. Several hours before that i did experience power outage, but both systems were plugged into the two separate UPSes. p.p.s After testing "original" system from 2nd PC seemed to have some problem with keyboard input (although mouses were working fine). TLDR: System(s) doesn't launch with i7 4790k, but working (somewhat) fine with i5 5690k

Planning on upgrading my CPU to an i7 4790K, but could also use with a motherboard upgrade. Budget is not too much of an issue (just got a promotion at work and I am beginning to rack in some juicy dosh), however a good bang for the buck board is always a nice recommendation, and there are basically no other limitations. Thanks in advance. ALSO primary use is gaming, so a good option for SLI is also nice

So, I just saw the distributed computing build on LTT and thought to myself, that is a really good idea. A chance to help out a good cause pretty much effortless. I have run the program folding@home all day and had HWmonitor on in the background. The temps are pretty much a constant at 70-80c. Since it uses 6 threads at least, and even at medium folding it maxes out my CPU. The GPU workload sits around 90% @50calsniper (custom WC loop) so in that case I´m not worried. The 240mm AIO for the CPU could crunch down the temps to a solid 70, but the fans would bother me. So, to my real question. Could the CPU handle these temps day in and day out for a long period of time or should I perhaps force down the folding software to only use 4 threads? I´m only day 1 so I´m not that worried. What temps are we talking about on Devils Canyon before it starts to degrade? And when Im already writing, I have a small OC on my CPU. 4.6Ghz on Auto v-core. I just checked the volts in cpu-z, 1.327. Isn't my MB a bit overzealous at the moment? Feels like I should be able to handle 4.6GHz at 1.25-28. Hello guys I have a hard time choosing which Cpu i want for my system The i7 4790k or i5 4690k What i want to do: Video editing -> Editing Games, Making 10 hours songs, Green screen, Short films Modeling -> Cinema 4d (for my youtube channel and maybe animation) Gaming -> I currently have a 7870 xt 2 gb so i don't know if you shoud spend 100 euro's more on i7 4790k or save it for graphics card Photoshop -> random things System right now: Samsung 850 evo 250 GB FX 6300 Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT 2 GB 16 Gb ddr3 1866 mhz Thanks for reading!

Hello everyone. So I'm building a new PC and I'm missing only my Corsair H100i and I have no idea what to do. Should my fans push air through radiator and out of case or should my fans pull air from outside through radiator and in case ? My Build : CPU: Intel i7 4790K MOBA: Asus Maximus VII Ranger ( Z97 ) GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Savage 16GB Case : Corsair air 540 White CPU Cooler : Corsair H100i Power supply : Corsair RM series 750 Watt 80PLUS gold Storage : 1x 120 GB SSD ( INTEL ) for Windows 8.1 and applications 1x 250 GB SSD ( INTEL or Kingston can't decide help me !! ) for my 2-3 FAV Games 2x 2 TB WD Black Hard drive And my brother gave me 4x 2TB Portable Hard drive Also what do you think about my build guys ? I will do gaming and editing videos for my YT channel and I will stream to that's why I went with i7 and 16 GB ram

Hey guys I need your help. I'm building a PC and I intend to overclock my CPU and GPU as far as I can while keeping the temps as low as possible. I have £500 to spend and I was wondering if I could build a great loop with it. I've chosen a Phanteks Enthoo Primo V2 which allows for up to 2x 480mm 60mm Thick radiators in push pull so there's plenty of wiggle room. If I go with a Corsair Carbide Air 540 it'll leave me with roughly £600 but I don't think Id have to spend that much on a loop to get really good temps (please advise me on this though). I was thinking of getting an Alphacool 480 D5/ut kit (http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/p/Alphacool-Cool-Answer...) and then getting a full cover waterblock, some more coolant, more fittings and tubing, fans and another radiator to cool both my gpu alongside the cpu (which the kit covers). I'm not sure though, if this is the best way to do it (if it is then please guide me to which parts would be best). I might get a 980 ti if the price isn't too ridiculous when it gets released (apparently this month) so I might get a custom air cooled one(it's been said that the reference cards and custom ones are getting debued at the same time) or get a smaller radiator and less exciting fans to fit my budget. This decision is also where I need your help. Thanks. Edit: If you could find the components from their UK sellers, it would be great because even though I can convert the prices into dollars, things are more expensive here.

I just bought a I7 4790k and put it on my system and have overclocked it to 4.5 ghz. I am using a h80i cooler and getting temps for 40-45 degrees. Is this OK? I used artic silver 5 as my thermal paste. Also my temps bump up to the 55-60 degree range after stress testing for an hour. I have the cooler mounted in the rear of my case with the fans pulling air in and another fan at the top pulling air out. Any info will be great.

Hello, guys i'm kinda new to this community.. and i hope somebody here will give me a great suggestion so i've been running an i7 2700k for a long time now i think (almost 3 years and a half maybe although i'am not sure) but i have been thinking if it does improve anything while i'm gaming if i upgrade to i7 4790k? i mostly stream CS:GO and some newer games if it comes out, i'm running this i7 2700k with an asus strix gtx 970 so far so good the system runs quite fine... but theres some performance throttles due to my motherboard which is the H77 chipset and that is the MSI-ZH77A-G43 Plus, it's not that fancy of a board it's really cheap and it has bad power phases and doesn't support turbo boost technology for the CPU. so i want to know if there's any improvements in gaming while streaming in 60FPS 720p HD on Twitch or Hitbox? if i ever go 4th gen oh, i forgot to mention i also edit some videos and frag movies of CS:GO using adobe after effects and the render times are really slow it toke me 3 hours to finish a render of a 2 minutes frag movie of CS:GO, should i get a z77 chipset board for my i7 2700k and overclock it? or should i go straight 4th gen and get me the i7 4790k? P.S. I'm running the CPU with liquid cooler from Cooler Master it's the Seidon 240m -

The Motherboard was a tough decision. In another Thread the MSI Gaming 5 was a favorite but I really want an optical audio port so thats why I placed the RoG Ranger over the MSI one. The Asus Strix GTX 970 was from the beginning my absolute favorite. I love the 0DB feature. So thats why I choose this one over the other brands. So my last problem is, I have no idea what PSU I should take with this set up Right now I have a Techsolo TP-600 (I cant find a decent link where you can buy this one) Partpicker told me I need around 400W so I dont want to take one thats way too Overkill even though they were recommended in my other threads. So, I currently have a GTX 780 and an i7 4770k @3.5GHz. I am looking into buying one of these parts but if absolutely necessary both. To get the most out of performance and Frames Per Second, should I keep the cpu and buy a GTX 980 or keep the gpu and buy an i7 4790k or something else around that price range to get the most performance, frames per second, and smoothness. Also, I currently have 16gb of ram and a 750w power supply. Thanks! -

(i dont want to be upgrading components every year). Also is my CPU alright? or should i upgrade it also and get maybe an i7 4790k Should i upgrade to 16gb ram i like to multitask alot and ive noticed my memory gets used up to like 70-90% when im gaming and multitasking. Last question if i would sell my gpu and cpu how much do you think it would go for? Hi , I recently bricked my Motherboard 990FXA-GD65 , and I sent it in for return and I will get a new board , but then I thought about selling my FX 8350 plus the new 990FXA mobo and with that money I can buy the Z97 Asrock Extreme 4 Motherboard , and a used i7 4790k., I have 2000 dkk / 290 USD / 260 euro for a used 4790k , after that I have nothing left , would that be worth the upgrade ? With DX 12 , does it even make a difference that he i7 has better single core performance ? Maybe I can just trade my FX and mobo for a blue Z97 motherboard I am thankful for every response I get , if you know anything else I can do , let me know -
I am running the H80i GT cooler with this chip ambient temps in my room is usually around 28C and the chip idles at around 31 C and running the XTU stress test averages at about 65C. Are these temps ok?

So far I have chosen MOST of the parts for my gaming PC build... However it's a little expensive. My main priority is gaming, the only photo or video editing I would be doing is the occasional photoshop. Would an i7 or an i5 be best for my PC? So a friend and I have an idea to put a Mini ITX inside of his Halliburton we got the idea from the Gigabyte ITX 970. The components fitting doesn't look like the problem though, we want it to run independently on its own power, for maybe an hour or so at a time. It would need to power everything, including a 1440p 23" monitor. We thought this could be possible with some quad copter batteries on an independent circuit that could be removed. Any members of the LTT forums think they can help?

I'm building a PC for gaming which consists of:- Motherboard - MSI z97 Gaming 3 CPU - Intel Core i7 4790k GPU - Radeon R9 270X PSU - Antec 500W RAM - 8GB(2x4GB 1333 MHz) My purpose is to play games such as fifa, battlefield, far cry, etc + some video editing. I'm not in mood to overclock the CPU. So should I necessarily need a CPU cooler or the stock fan will work well for me.?? -

I've got an issue with my new build. i7 4790k running at stock speeds (for now) Corsair H100i GTX CPU Cooler Asus Maximus VII Hero Motherboard 2133MHz Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM - 16GB 2x Gigabyte G1 Gaming GeForce GTX 980 running in SLI Corsair HX1000i PSU (higher than needed, but I like having a little breathing room for the future) Windows 10 Pro 64bit The issue - CPU idles at around 32-34c with around 23c ambient. However, when doing simple things such as browsing the internet or opening a program, the temp will spike momentarily. Typically it goes 34c>45c>51c, which happens for a couple of seconds before repeating the process backwards. This causes all the fans in the system to ramp up RPM's for a couple of seconds, then roll back which is bugging me. That's not my main concern though, I'm more concerned on whether this is normal or not. I've tried many solutions over the past few days, including re-applying thermal paste twice, changing windows power setting to 'balanced' & I've even tried reducing the voltage the CPU receives, which seems to help, but doesn't solve the problem & keeps me from getting the performance I'd like. I installed Corsair Link, which has the pump at full speed all the time, but that didn't help either. I'm desperate for an answer on whether this is normal, or if there actually is an issue. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. -
At the moment I've got a GTX 970 along side an FX 8350 CPU. I'm thinking of getting a new build seeing as Windows 10 is out and it links with your hardware, so as soon as the free year for 10 ends I'm essentially stuck with whatever I'm using at the time, unless I wanna buy a £150 windows licence along with the new build. ANYWAY. To the point. I want to go to Intel because even though I use AMD I'm totally aware that Intel are far superior. Given that I'm currently using one of AMD's strongest CPU's would I see a drastic boost in performance by upgrading to an i7 4790k or would I just be better off completely going for it and buy an i7 5820k? The reason I'm asking this is I can look at as many benchmarks as I want but I'd much rather have real opinions, and if I chose the 5820k I'd have to buy a whole new set of RAM too as it only supports DDR4, and I'm pretty sure board's for DDR4 aren't cheap. If I'm upgrading I don't want a slight boost in performance. I'd like a pretty large one. Any help would be pretty cool. Jake.

Hi, I'm a first timer OCer... read a bunch, watched a bunch (including and especially Linus OC Guides) and I got some interesting results on my first tests but doubts abound. First, my setup: Intel I7 4790K with Noctua NH-D14 ASUS z97M-PLUS/BR (2802 BIOS) Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1600MHz ASUS ROG MARS760-4GD5 EVGA 600B 80PLUS Bronze NZXT H230 (All Fan Setup, 2 front, 1 back) I've configured my BIOS as follow: AI OC Tuner: XMP CPU Strap: 100MHz ASUS Multi Core: Disabled CPU Core Ratio: Sync All (46) Core Voltage: 1.235v -- No other changes With such, I've managed to pass a 10 minutes stability test on AIDA64 though I observed all cores reaching individual peak temps of 95ºC (every 5 to 10 secs) but no throttling and highest average temp at 82ºC. The overall CPU average temp was about 74ºC. Lower voltages resulted in crashes during stability tests and higher multipliers and voltages resulted in throttling. Tests with Intel XTU wielded lower temps altogether. My main concern right now is over those peak temps I observed on individual cores. Should I aim for a lower OC to avoid such peaks or the average temps are more relevant to system stability and life expectancy in general? Or should I watch for the CPU overall temp? Would there be other configs I could or should fiddle to get better results? Any other suggestions on the matter? Thanks

I am thinking to upgrade my PC. My PC's current specs are: Now I'm looking for upgrading my PC to Intel Platform just because of AMD's heating issue in India (in without AC room - around 40 deg Celcius). I've selected 2 processors for my upgradation. They are: 1. Intel Core i7-4790K (it is available around INR. 24000/-)2. Intel Core i7-6700K (it is available around INR. 28500/-) So is it worth buying the latest launch from Intel - its 6th gen Intel i7-6700K processor over Intel Core i7-4790K. If it is worth buying 6700K then please specify me the parts of my old PC which can be used with the new upgradation..!! Also tell me the best motherboard according to your choice depending upon the processor you are going to recommend me. My budget is medium, I can't get too high in costing so please keep that in mind.?
