I only care about framerates in AAA games. is keeping your gaming rig balanced/non- bottlenecked really worth it if you can spend less and get better frame-rates? I'm running a i5-3470 with 16 gigs of ram @ 3.8 Ghz and gaming at 1080p . I can worry about bottlenecking and get something sensible like a 1070/1060(already using a 1060) or I cound spend a lot of money to get a new 6700k/7700k and pair it with a 1080/1080ti which would be very expensive. but what if I don't upgrade my old cpu and just simply buy an overkill 1080ti and game at1080p?!!! would a bottlenecked 1080ti+i5-3470 still give me better framerates than a balanced 1080/1070+7700k combo? does bottlenecking even matter if cost to performance ratio is better on simply upgrading the gpu?

I was checking my temps while playing games tonight, noticed my bottom card was running a little hotter than the top, thought this was extremely strange. Checked through GPU-Z and found that my bottom card had WAY more usage than my top card. My top card has a faster boost and base clock by about 100MHz. I thought the top card was the master and the bottom was a slave, is there a reason why this is happening?

Woohoo, the fiftieth post regarding a 1080 ti!(exaggeration) So, a little under 2 weeks ago I bought a gtx 1080 founders edition from Best Buy, and I was aware that the 1080 ti was coming out soon, but not this early. My question is, should I return my 1080 to Best Buy and wait for the custom 1080 ti cards, or keep mine for a while longer? I wish to get some opinions. BTW: I have a 1440p gsync 144hz monitor, and I mainly play AAA games.

I recently watched a video featuring a graphics card with GDDR4 memory and I thought to myself - I've never heard of GDDR4, only GDDR3 & GDDR5(x). So, what happened to GDDR4?

I am thinking about selling my G1 Gaming 960 for like 160 CAD and buying a Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury for 365 CAD. It is a very good deal and would improve my PC performance a lot

So I built a computer a year ago that, at its heart lies an i7 6700k clocked to 4.6 GHz and a GTX 970 G1 Gaming clocked up to 1404 MHz (Dang Gigabyte knows how to pick their chips), and while I love my computer, I feel like there's more to pull out of it, but I can't afford a shiny new 1070, much less a 1080 or 1080ti. However, I have been seeing 970 G1 Gaming cards going for <$200 on ebay, so my question is, would it be worth it to upgrade? Or is SLI scaling bad enough to just wait until I can afford a current gen gpu?

I am looking for a graphics card for my system to play games on ultra 60fps on my 60hz 2560x1080 21:9 ultra wide monitor. I will be choosing between the GTX 980 and the GTX 980ti. The 980 costs almost half the cost of a 980ti but the 980ti is still within my budget. If i spend less, I will save and upgrade to a newer Pascal card at the end of the year. I am also considering the GTX 1060 but that is almost the price of my friends offer for his 980ti in New Zealand. My system specs are:i5 4690k overclocked to 4.4ghz Asrock fatal1ty z87 professional motherboardFSP Aurum AU-650m 650w power supply 16gb 4x4gb ddr3 G.Skill 1600mhz RAMThe proposed 980 is a G1 gaming wind-force and the 980ti would be an EVGA super-clocked+I am planning to play games like GTA 5, Witcher 3, Far Cry Primal and ultra modded Skyrim. I wish to play all of these games with sweetfx and other graphics enhancing mods without dipping below 40fps, preferably at constant 60fps. I really dont know if the 980ti is worth the extra cost at this resolution. I am slightly concerned about the 980ti's 2gb Vram advantage (total of 6) over the 980 but im not sure if it is worth it for the games i wish to play. I will consider the 1060 but id rather go with the 980 and save quite a bit of cash for relatively the same performance.

Does the price of a pc part decrease over time if its the same model? EG Intel i5 7500. will it decrease in say,6 months time? as i am going to buy a pc in 6 months and would like to consider these factors before making my budget pc build

Hey guys I am upgrading an old build and i am currently putting an X5460 xeon four core CPU into a LGA 775 board (It's a mod) I also need to purchase a new graphics card. I have found a second hand 7970 for $120. (I'm in Australia so it is costly) OR i could purchase a 1050/1050ti for $200/250 I have been told that there could be a bottleneck from the CPU on this build, apparently there is no point getting a 1050 for 720/1080p???? Would it be worth paying an extra $150 for the GPU, or should i put that money towards an SSD/RAM/Cooler? I play on 720p, and do light game design and 3d modelling. Thanks for advice guys

So I'm making my first build Current specs: -i5 7600k w/hyper 212 evo -16 GB DDR4 RAM -EVGA 650W Gold+ -other specs don't really matter, my case is large enough for any card -I currently have a 1080p 60hz monitor -my budget allows for me to get a 1070 w my current monitor or a 1060 w a new 144hz display. which would be better -note: i mostly play solo games and competitive advantage in multiplayer does not matter -also, will the 1070 cause screen tear w my 60hz monitor?

Here's my situation.. I've got a half-decent gaming rig; i7-4790k Gigabyte GA-Z97x-Gaming7 MSI R9-290x (4GB) 16gb DDR3 (Corsair Vengeance) 800w PSU (XFX) 1TB HDD 250GB SSD (Samsung Evo Pro) Corsair H80i (V1) Dual 1080p Monitors (1 is 60hz, 1 is 144hz) It's tax season, and I'm due for a GPU upgrade. I can't decide which one I should grab. The simple version of the argument seems to be; "If you're not playing 4k, a 1070 is fine." My only problem with that is that I want my 1080p games (Sometimes 1440 supersampled) to all run at awesome framerates (at least 150+ in games where you can run passed 60) at "Ultra" settings. Games like CS:GO, Rocket League, and even WoW aren't a problem. But games like RE7, Titanfall 2, and other AAA games have me worried. What are your opinions? Should I shell out the extra bills and get a 1080, or should I save that money (maybe upgrade something else) and get a 1070? Also, with your opinion, I also haven't decided which 3rd party to go with (MSI, ASUS, etc) so feel free to give your opinion on that too! Thanks so much!

So I decided to install an r7 240 into an old computer running windows xp media center edition and a pentium d 805. I tried installing the drivers from the amd site: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows XP Media Center Edition but nothing happened... after a restart AMD CCC was nowhere to be found and the gpu not recognized, I used DDU to uninstall it and try again and it still didn't work so I reinstalled windows and and restored to factory settings and tried installing the drivers again but like the previous tries it would say everything is installed but windows would still not recognize the GPU and CCC would still not be installed. I am inexperienced when it comes to drivers so am I doing something obviously wrong?

Hello, This is my first time posting on this forum, but I feel like this would be the best place to ask my question. So here we go. So I have a Lenovo Y510p laptop http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y510p/ with two Nvidia 750m GPUs running in SLI (this is option given the ultrabay support that lenovo has so I can take out the second GPU and only run one if I choose to.) I use this laptop basically as a desktop because my monitor is bigger and I have a mechanical keyboard that I like to use. So it stays closed and is hooked up to my monitor via HDMI. time is starting to take its toll on this computer and I'm wanting to build myself another desktop soon so what better way to start then to hold myself over with a eGPU until i slowly build my desktop. Now to the nitty gritty. I'm here asking all of you your best opinions on how I will maximize the performance of this laptop with a eGPU. I would like to avoid bottlenecks the best I can, but as I said above this is just going to be temporary. If I'm not mistaken the only option I have is my mini pcie slot that my wifi card is in, but if any of you know a way to use the ultrabay that (i assume) would probably give me the best performance from the GPU. for the graphics card I plan on using. It will either be a GTX 1060 or a GTX 1070. I don't have any interest in having a AMD card. I have seen ultrabay extention egpus that work with AMD cards, but as i just said. I would rather go with Nvidia. Thank you all in advance! I will try and post back as soon as I possibly can in reply to you all.

graphics cards Mac Pro 3,1 and GTX 750 ti do not agree...
MajesticUnipig posted a topic in Graphics Cards
I recently purchased an EVGA GTX 750 ti SC for my quite old Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008, so it's around nine years old now), and I cannot seem to install any drivers that will run with a 750 ti on OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). If anyone can direct me in the right direction for successfully using a 750 ti inside of my Mac Pro 3,1, I will be eternally grateful. Thanks, MajesticUnipig -

so a friend of mine asked me if he upgraded his graphics card to a 1060 but kept the old card in the rig as a secondary card for his other two monitors, would they work in the same board or would he have to buy two new cards?

So I am looking to get a graphics card for around 200- 260 bucks USD. I had chosen the Gigabyte G1 1060 6gb that's like 250 on amazon. I started to think about future proof as I want the card I am gonna buy to be useful for around 2-3 years for high- ultra 1080p 60fps. That's when I started to also look at the rx 480. I've seen benchmarks where the 1060 wins in DX11 games but then starts to fall below the 480 in DX12 games like Tomb Raider, Hitman, and also Vulkan games. Is stuff like DX12 and Vulkan a requirement that always has to be on? Im a noob to API's so I dont know anything.

I have purchased a EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW DT(http://bit.ly/2m0DWrx) and have a modular power supply corsair RMx 750(http://bit.ly/2lOlKkG). I currently have in my system a gtx 960 which requires only 1 input power and this is the first computer I have built. On my 6+2-pin pcie power cable there are 2 6+2-pin connectors. Do I have to run 2 pcie power cables to the graphics card or may I use one? If I use only one are there any drawbacks?

First of all, sorry if you don't solve problems like this on the LTT forum. So, this problem occoured a few months ago, and I tried to do everything to fix this. I have read almost every single thread from Tomshardware and Geforce forums about this problem, but none of the solutions worked. Everything works normally without the NVidia drivers, but after installing them and restarting the computer I hear the beep, all of the fans start working and after the "Starting Windows" screen it just shows me a black screen. Safe mode works fine, so I can uninstall the drivers. This started a few months after I upgraded to Windows 10, but even after downgrading back to Windows 7 didn't fix the problem. But the bizzare thing is that it SOMETIMES (very rarely) boots correctly with the drivers installed and when it does, everything, including the games, works fine. Another weird thing: sometimes after the "Starting Windows" screen it would show a random color (gray, white, red) instead of black. I also tried a lot of driver versions, but the ones I tried resulted in the same problem. Any help is appreciated Specs: GPU: NVidia Geforce GTX 560Ti CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k MOBO: Gigabyte Z68X-UD3-B3 HDD: Samsung 1TB Hard Drive PSU: Corsair TX650 PSU RAM: Crucial DDR3 Ballistix Sport 1600MHz (2x4GB) Ask me if you need any additional info. EDIT: I forgot to tell that I can access the BIOS just fine

So I'm set on the RX 480 for my PC build, but I can't decide if I should go with the 4GB card or future-proof and go with the 8GB card. For the moment, I'll just be gaming at 1080p and editing video at 1080p (but possibly editing 4K video in the future). What kind of impact will my VRAM have on any of this? Is 8GB of RAM just flat out overkill for someone working primarily with 1080p video? Sidenote: I will be using three 1080p monitors in a triple monitor setup. I figure that's important to the discussion.

Ok so the game I play most these days is WoW (Legion). I have a brand new GTX 1060 3GB from Palit with dual fans which I overclocked for the sake of max-ing it out. As I was testing the performance I noticed I'm not getting very good FPS (39) even without any component of my PC being used 100%. So there seems to be a bottleneck that I can't locate. I think the screenshot I'm posting says everything. My CPU loads sits at around 50% and my GPU load even lower than that. Then GPU's memory is only at 70% and as you can see, it definitely isn't a GPU power consumption or heat throttle problem. I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers and I'm not infected with any malware that I'm aware of. Also the vsync is off and it gets confirmed everytime I get to smaller space in the game (where there is no distance graphics involved) and the fps are through the roof. Lastly, I'm clarifying that the pic is taken as one due to dual monitors, so the values you are seeing are simultaneous at the game's maximum settings (FPS are shown at lower right corner via Nvidia Experience). Here are my PC specs:Motherboard: H110M PRO-VDCPU: Intel i3-6100 @ 3.7GhzRam: Single 8GB DDR4 stick @ 2133MhzPSU: NOD 550 WattsStorage: Radeon R3 SSD 240GB + WD Caviar 1TB @ 7200 rpmMonitors: Dual LG 24" LED Monitors 1080p @ 60HzOS: Windows 10 x64Final thoughts are that the only component I'm not monitoring through this test is my PSU, but I don't think this would be my PC's behavior, if the problem was the PSU. I imagine the system would just shut down if it didn't have enough power. So I really need your help with this one.
