So i'm not entirely sure how i've done this in the past. I'm actually 90% sure I used Ubuntu on my USB drive to format an HDD before but that isn't really an option, i'd prefer to keep my USB thumb drive with Windows 8.1 on it in case I need to repair Windows again. Anyway, I have an old HDD that I used to use for everything but I just got my SSD set up with Windows on it. I tried deleting all the partitions in the Windows UEIF install. Y'know, I went to custom settings and totally wiped everything that was on it so that it showed up as one drive with unallocated space but it's not showing me the hard drive when I log into windows. I completely forgot what to do, can anyone jog my memory? i'm not trying to partition it for Windows i'm just tryna throw games n shit on it.

I am currently on windows 10 and have a bootable usb for a windows 7 install. When I boot off of the usb I go through the installation process and get to the partition and formatting of my hard drive. I can see my primary hard drive that already has windows 10 installed on it, it does not make me format the hard drive and acts as if I can install windows 7 to it without formatting it. Will this cause any problems or am I safe to not format the hard drive? Also, will I retain my drivers?

Hi guys, I just put together my new rig and everything is going fairly well so far. The only problem that I am having now is that I am unable to format my main storage hard drive. I had it completely wiped in disk management, then I made a new simple partition that was the entire size of the hard drive. But when it starts to format the drive after creating the partition, windows tells me the partition cant be completed. I have no idea what to do now and thought maybe one you guys might have had a similar issue. Thanks

Hi, I'm planning on formatting my laptop because the drives are full and messy and I want a fresh start. However I need a lot of my data and I'm not exactly sure where on the drives the files are located. Is there a way for me to backup all data on my pc except for the OS? Or perhaps which folders do I need to save? Thx ^-^

Hey guys, just got an ssd today so I can upgrade from my WD Blue 500GB. Instead of migration I decided to install fresh. I made a partition in the ssd during the setup and made a clean install. Now when I open my PC I get 2 windows boot options right before log in. I've backed up all the files and I'm about to format the HDD when I noticed; The Disk 2 (one I'm formatting) still has the 2 extra partitions it came with when I first installed Win 10. I don't know if its safe to wipe the entire disk or if I should just do the partition. I didnt unplug the WD Blue when I installed the fresh copy of Win10 in the new SSD. Disk 0 is the SSD with the new Win10 in it. Disk 1 is my 1TB storage for games and media. Disk 2 is what I'm trying to clean out. The Red markers are what I'm concerned with formatting out and if keeping it will slow my performance at all. Edit: Made it simpler to read and removed unnecessary info. Also I've done all the file backup and it takes really long so I dont think re installing windows is viable.

Having moved from a Mac to a PC and finished copying over the necessary files from my last TimeMachine backup, I am keen to reformat the old external 500GB external HDD for Windows use. While I was able to get stuff off the disk without issue using HFS Explorer, the disk drive itself isn't showing up in either Windows Explorer or Computer Management->Storage->Disk Management. I can see the old Seagate HDD in the Device Manager, but there are no options to reformat the drive from there. To be clear, there is nothing wrong with the drive or my machine, I just need to learn the steps &/or software to find and format the drive. Also debating between exFAT and NTFS as formatting options. Running Windows 10.0.14393

Hello guys I need help.Just a few minutes ago I opened Task Manager to check the Startup menu and I saw that Web Companion was installed and Activated to start with Windows. The thing is I didn't download it and it might've sneaked tis way in via other programs. So I uninstalled it,Run Windows Defender to check for any viruses but it didn't find anything, but what worries me is that in the Startup tab in TM Web Companion has been renamed to "Program" and I don't know what to do.I think I should just format my SSD. What do you think? Also If I format my SSD should I do a Quick or a Full Format? Thank you. P.S Its in Greek because I am from Greece but I think you can see the "Program" and it says its Deactivated.

Hello guys.So I want to Restore my PC to a previous point(Windows 10) because Web Companion was installed and I tried uninstalling it but it still shows up in the Startup Tab on Task Manager but with a different name "Program".I scanned my PC with Windows Defender but It found nothing. At first I thought I should just Full Format my SSD but first of all I don't know if it will affect the SSD'S lifespan. Then I thought I could try Restore but I don't know if it will affect the SSD'S lifespan and if it will remove the Program/Virus.What do you think I should do? Thank you.

Hello everyone I have been struggling with a problem the whole day and can't figure it out. My specs: 2200g 2070 MSI Armor 2x8 gb corsair 3000MHz Thermaltake smart 750W MSI gaming plus mobo b450 I wanted to dual boot linux and windows so I decided to install linux on my second HDD(windows is on SSD). I installed it and then I could not boot into windows so I reinstalled windows. So far so good. Then when I got into windows my screen starts to go solid, random colors randomly. I figured its a driver problem so I removed driver with DDU and reinstalled it, no avail. So I switched to my mobo's HDMI output but I can't get it to working, formatted windows bunch of times, ran chkdsk and did secure erase on ssd and reinstalled windows, nope. One time it seemed to work fine, I plugged my hdmi to GPU and ran a benchmark, temps did seemed fine (60-70 max) and average 40 fps on 1080p extreme, so I don't think(hope) my gpu is dead. Then it started to do it again, but this time only happened when I opened/closed any program. Screen would go black for 2-5 seconds and come back. Then I checked event logs thru device manager. It showed nvidia driver would stop working but recovered succesfully, everytime the screen went black. I don't have any more ideas, should I send the gpu back? What else can I do?

Hi guys, I’m about to sell off my old gaming computer and I intend to securely erase my data off. I don’t have the Windows 7 installation disc with me (might have accidentally thrown it away). After some research, I found that there are two ways to write zeros on my SSD and HDD: one through diskpart and another also through command prompt but utility command like “format g: /fs:NTFS /p:2”. My question is that is it possible to use either of these two methods to write zeros on my SSD where Windows 7 is installed whereby the new user can then install either Windows 7/8/10 on the PC? Looking forward to your replies. Cheers.

To set the situation, I was downloading forza horizon 4(to hdd) from MStore while talking with with friend on discord(I have newest windows 1903). I noiticed that microsoft store had some problems with downloading speed(I have 300Mb/s and it was downloading with speeds ranging from 5mb/s to 30mb/s) and first freeze occured, screen and audio froze(mouse lighting too) and first blue screen occured(this blue screen is not included as photo), quick pc restart, everything works, I'm continuing downloading forza and few minutes later screen froze again, but audio kept going(spotify music and i heard my buddy) when suddenly wild blue screen appeared(first blue screen pic). Then i tried to restart it butit only boot up to blue screen with 0xc00000e error code and mesage that system32\winload.exe file might be damaged or does not exist so i plugged in boot usb with system and went to command prompt to try some commands that possibly "should" resolve my problem but when typed bootrec /fixboot command prompt denied access(I tried to use some different commands to make this command work but that didnt worked too) so i booted old system i have on hdd to check what the hell happened, i find partition wizard and check disks and as you can see on last pic system ssd is empty. So question to you my darling forum users, WHAT HAPPENED and if there's possibility to retrieve my data? Sorry for any bad english, it's not my primary language

I am using ASUS Z170 Pro gaming mother board for my PC. Also using a 120 GB SSD where Windows 10 is installed. Config is as follows: i5 6600k (stock) 16 GB ram 3200 MHZ ASUS Z170 Pro gaming mobo 120 GB SSD ADATA - Windows 10 installed 1 TB TOSHIBA HDD Every time I turn on the PC, the windows operating starts within 6 seconds. I am unable to enter BIOS settings. Even if I keep pressing "Delete" (designated key for entering bios for ASUS Z170 Pro gaming mobo) right after pressing the power button, it still directly goes to start the operating system instead of giving me the chance to enter BIOS settings. I need to format my SSD, HDD and re-install windows using a portable pen drive loaded with windows 10 that has been made boot ready. I need to enter the bios and set the boot device to the pen drive to do that. How do I enter BIOS settings when my windows starts directly instead of giving me a chance to enter BIOS settings? Or is there any other way to boot the device form pen drive?

I decided to reset my windows, and beforehand i prepared in an external HD my backup of pictures videos, drivers, programs, and so on. After reset was finished, I was looking around about the storage options and came up with the "storage space" option, seeing my External HD there and not remembering how it ended up there I clicked to erase storage pool/space. Not knowing it deleted the partition. Since I realized my mistake i've been trying to recover the files. using programs like: EaseUS data recovery wizard Remo recover Hetman Partition Recovery No luck not even to find something from the deleted partition. Each scan takes 5 hours more or less, and I ran a few times. I didn't perform a deep format on this HD. Trying now with iMyFone AnyRecover. Please help. Thank you.

So my friend has a corrupted windows installation on his hard drive and he is unable to format it with a windows USB installer, so being the nice friend I am I offered to format his drive on my PC. I figured I'd just have to plug it in and format it in windows, however I am unable to boot onto windows even if the problem drive is removed, I went into the BIOS and set my boot drive as booting option #1 and even went into the boot menu to force it to use my SSD however it still gives me the old "reboot and select proper boot device" error. Wat do

First of all sorry for my bad english skills.Faced the Msi GE73 Raider RGB 8RF laptop. Windows 10 was installed and at a certain point it stopped loading. I tried to reinstall using the system build via legacy mode, as well as via uefi. The installation was completed, but the system did not start. I also faced the fact that the SSD cannot be formatted, I tried through the diskpart, the disk seemed to be erased, but after updating the installation page, all data returned to the site, I also tried to run through the external hard disk and format it as well, to no avail. Are there those who came across this? Thanks for answers!

My 1tb external hdd does not show up in windows but does in chkdisk thing in cmd after typing in listdisk. so i followed a guide to get it fixed but sadly my laptop died during the format process it does show that theres data there in recovery software. is that data really there or should i give up. its over 900GB or should i spend 100s of dollars on recovery rather or use recovery software to try get it back myself. as far as i can hear the drive is not clicking or jumping around the platters inside.

I want to delete a volume on a secondary hard drive that has no data on it, but the delete volume button is greyed out in the disk management tool, and when I run diskpart clean, it gives the following error: Virtual Disk Service error: Clean is not allowed on the disk containing the current boot, system, pagefile, crashdump or hibernation volume. I realised that this is because the disk is marked as both a pagefile disk and a crashdump disk, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to turn these off and be able to reset it properly.
