Okay, Hello! I bought this i7-4790k off Ebay a while ago. (Yes I know, used components are scary.) However, it works alright -- except, if it goes into turbo, or anything over 4Ghz exactly, my entire computer will lock up after a bit and I have no choice but to hard-power it down. And this even happens sometimes (rarely) when it isn't going past 4Ghz. I was trying to play RE3 Remake and it freezes up my PC after about 15-20 minutes, the temperatures aren't anything absurd so I know it's not overheating. They're around ~50c - ~60c while playing a game and idle around ~32c-38c. I have no idea what this problem is, but I bought the processor with the intention of OCing it, and I can't do that at all. So I'm stuck with this stock i7-4790k that hates working sometimes. Anyone have any suggestions what could be wrong? I haven't messed around with voltage or anything like that yet. It's all stock and default. My mobo is the MSI Z87-GD65. Hopefully someone can help, if not I'm just gonna have to move over to a new AMD CPU when I get some money, since this processor has been giving me a headache. Also, I have the Hyper 212 EVO for my cooler, and I have a 700w PSU so I doubt it's that either. I never had any of these problems until I upgraded from my i5-4690 to the i7-4790k. I did fully reinstall windows after installing the new CPU as well, and yes, BIOS are up-to-date. Hopefully someone can help, thanks guys. Maybe it's just a faulty CPU. -- Oh also, it's paired with a XFX Radeon 5700 XT, in case that's relevant.

Hey there! I'm looking to build a mid-range gaming pc with a 2070 Super and I had a quick question about my processor. I was planning on going ahead with the AMD 3700x but saw on User Bench that the Intel 9600k provides similar performance, but at 2/3rds the price. However, User Bench's bottleneck calculator said I would be bottlenecking my gpu, if only by a little. I also know Intel just announced their Comet Lake architecture and that might affect prices in the near future, therefore rendering this question irrelevant. I was wondering if anyone could provide some help on which cpu I should go with, as there seems to be a lot of contradictory opinions on the matter. Thanks ahead of time for any input! PS- sorry if there are some holes in my understanding of the matter, I'm a newbie when it comes to all of this and just thought I would seek the opinions of some more experienced builders.

Hi all, I have built many systems and consider myself prety good with Ryzen systems but always know there is more to learn, and i am quite frankly stuck atm, I just built a system with the follows specs: Ryzen 7 1800x Gigabyet B450 Gaming 16gb XPG 3000mgx ram dual channel Vega 56 On the surface everything seems to work fine but when testing i noticed a lower score in R15 (the same as a Ryzen 7 1700 so looked further into it, now even on synthetic tests my CPU will not go above 85% usage and clocks down to 3.1 under load, im first thought was thermal throttling but Aida 64 and HW info tell me im not going over 70 degrees no spikes im in windows performance power profile and have updated the Mobo bios so im a bit stuck! Has anyone else come across this and knows a fix? Thanks in advance

Looking for a quick boot camp on laptop CPUs. I'll be purchasing a laptop in the near future to work on my game design on the go the programs I will mainly be using are Zbrush, 3DsMax, Maya and UE4, some of these programs are CPU intensive so I'll be looking to get a decent CPU. I know nothing about mobile CPUs so If you feel like it could you list some decent CPUs and tell me how many cores they have etc I will be most likely getting a Lenovo Thinkpad and my budget is around < £1500 I will also need a GPU but it doesn't need to be anything special as It's just for game dev I have a decent PC for gaming. ATM I'm hovering between these two thinkpads but I am open to other suggestions as I know I am paying a premium for the brand. You might look at these and ask what's the competition clearly one is better than the other but about 30% of my decision is swinging on that extra battery life (second one has 2 batteries) http://www3.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-series-/T460p/p/20FWCTO1WWENGB1?configuratorMode=compact ( configured with i7,6700HQ 4 Core 8 Thread, GTX 940mx 2GB, 16GB DDR4 2133Mhz, 1TB Hardrive, 6 cell 72Whr battery for £1212.79 ) http://www3.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-series-/T560/p/20FHCTO1WWENGB1?configuratorMode=compact (configured with i5 6200u/6300u? 2 core 4 thread, 16Gb DDR3 1600Mhz, Gtx 940mx, 1TB hardrive, front battery 44Whr, rear battery 6 cell 72Whr, £1.206.39 / £1296.39 )

Hey guys, i have an old xeon l5420 at home ( I know these cpus belong to crapyard in terms of SERVER performance). When looked up several details on intel ARK I found the entry that says, that the maximum temperature is at only 57 degrees celsius. Is that true and will the CPU suffer from higher temps? I mean dekstop CPUs warm up to 80 degrees ceslsius. Could I use this CPU then anyways in a budget build, because the tolerated temp is so low?

Looks like we might actually be getting some benchmarks sooner then expected, with actual Ryzen 5 chips (Not the downclocking clickbait we saw recently, nothing but love for Linus though :D) https://wccftech.com/retailers-selling-amd-ryzen-5-cpus-3-weeks-official-launch/ " AMD’s mainstream Ryzen 5 family of CPUs don’t officially launch until April the 11th but it seems not all retailers have gotten the memo. Retailers worldwide have already begun receiving shipments of Ryzen 5 processors and a few resellers in Europe have actually started selling the chips. A few lucky individuals have managed to walk into their local retailers and grab Ryzen 5 processors, they then proceeded to post pictures of their new purchases. A few have even promised to benchmark their CPUs and publish the results within the next few days."

So my dad and i recently got into building pcs, and were wondering if anyone had some suggestions on motherboards for testing the functionality of CPUs. We just need something a bit cheap that could work on most CPUs in todays market.

Hello LTT users, I'm planning on building myself a new rig, so I'll have leftover parts from my current Dell machine. I was thinking of selling the parts and wanted to know how much I could reasonably ask for them. Note that I will be selling local so there won't be any shipping costs. Here's what I'm looking find a price for: Dell Inspiron 580 case with front panel devices (card reader, audio, USB), CD/DVD combo drive, motherboard equipped with i3 540 3.06GHz dual core with HT (includes cooler), 2 x 4GB DDR3, and the exhaust fan. All data cables are there for all devices on/in the case. No power supply, storage, operating system or expansion cards will be included. Thanks to anyone that takes the time to answer. -Darren

Hello LTT users! I am kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. I was looking at upgrading my current rig (specs below) but realized that prices for the parts I would be interested in are completely ridiculous. I was thinking that a good move for now would be to not try to upgrade my current platform, but to move to a newer platform with a viable upgrade path. Please do not suggest Kaby Lake. Here's my current rig: Dell Inspiron 540. It's got the i3 540 in it and I've thrown in a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 240GB, GTX 760 ti (OEM, basically a GTX 670), and a Seasonic M12ii 520w Bronze EVO Edition power supply because the old one was making some unsettling sounds. Here's what I was considering: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Pentium G4400 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor ($57.88 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: ASRock H110M-HDS Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($46.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Mushkin Essentials 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($47.99 @ Directron) Case: Zalman Z3 ATX Mid Tower Case ($29.99 @ Amazon) Total: $182.85 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-01-14 13:20 EST-0500 Yes, I know I'm planning on putting a mATX motherboard in an ATX case. That doesn't bother me. Note that I only have $200 and that budget won't be increasing any time soon. I'd like it to be below $200. I live in the United States, currency is USD. I was just wondering if this seemed like a good plan for now. All advice is welcome. -Darren

Hello! Should I upgrade my current CPU cooler (Be quiet pure rock) to a more "premium" water cooler? The reason why I even started to think about upgrading is, because summer is here in sweden and I want my PC, focusing right now on CPU to stay cool. My question to you experts out there: - How much lower would an i7 7700k be in temps from my current cooler, to a liquid cooler like this https://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2/258-6905210-59... - How much quieter would the liquid cooler be? Or would it be louder? - Is it worth the price? My i7 7700k right now is running at around 75c (not overclocked) when playing games for hours, it does not go above 75c, I have made sure using perfect fan curves. But I would of course like it to be lower, but making the fans on the pure rock go faster for lower temps, makes it suuuper loud. So, is it worth it? -thanks More about : a

So I recently purchased the MSI Z170A SLI Plus for my first ever build. I bought this with the intention of getting my first rig cheap and quick so I can start playing soon while having options to expand for memory, OC (if I ever want to), SLI, m.2, etc. I know I want to go with an i3 and I was thinking of the Intel - Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor as it has good reviews and all but I thought I would check with the community on this in case there is a better i3 option (6th generation or lower). I know I could go for an i5 but I am not looking to spend ~$200 for a CPU atm. Maybe later or upgrade towards an AMD (mobo including). Also, current build. Hello, I am C# developer and am into webapps and mobile app development(majorly android), want to start into game development using unity3d with C# scripting. Want to get a new rig for that because my laptop is not holding up with the softwares i need to use mainly Visual studio, unity 3d. Would it be better to build my own rig or get a prebuilt system. i wanted to build a workstation but there are a lot of options and whenever i settle for one part the other seems incompatible or an imperfect match. CPU i chose was 7700k but after seeing few of your videos thought of extreme series 6800k(should i look at no. of core or cpu clock speed??) motherboards should i get c612 chipset based or something else, does 1080 does the work or i should go for a quadro???? there is a lot of confusion so can you help me out with the right combination of cpu motherboard and gpu that can help me take things off the floor

So I just found out about psu and cpu compatibility, and was wondering if the Corsair RM550x/Corsair VS450W will be compatible with my I5-7500. It says on here( http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/rmx-series-rm550x-550-watt... ) that it is "6th generation Intel® Core™ processor Ready (Intel Skylake and Z170 motherboards)"

Hi there, I am in a bit of a misery. I need a server board for the Xeon L5420. The website Intel ark tells : Intel s5000 palr is compatible with the CPU. But when I look at the specs of the board it says, that only dual core CPUs are supported. What should I do and can you suggest another board for around 70 euros / dollars ?

I have a question about the apple A10 processor, I heard from people that it is apple's first quad core mobile processor with 2 "high performance" cores and 2 "low power" cores. Does this mean that it is a true quad core since or does it mean that only 2 cores can be active at the same time. like I know that in the die it does have 4 physical cores but are all those cores active at the same time or are only 2 are working at the same time? thanks.

I am looking to purchase a new laptop and wanted some help on figuring out what specs I should be looking at or considering for best web browsing performance. I typically have many web windows open at once for long time periods for web browsing and I am not a gamer. I know cpu speed, cache, # of cores, play a big role but I wondering what other specifications are relevant?

Intel's 18-core Xeon CPU may be destined for the iMac Pro I think having such a powerfull CPU for a professional grade computer may be what apple needs to have a even bigger edge over other solutions for pofessionals. however will the cost f it go up what do you guys think? https://www.engadget.com/2017/08/29/intel-18-core-xeon-w-cpu/ Quote After the 18-core model, you're looking at Xeon Ws with 14, 10, 8 and fewer cores. The top-of-the-line chip can be boosted to 4.3 GHz if you've got the cooling, while the lesser models can go up to 4.5 GHz. The new CPUs also support up to 512GB of DDR4-2666 ECC RAM and have 48 PCI Express 3.0 lanes, giving you plenty of storage and port options. All told, performance is 38 percent better than the current Xeon E5 generation, Intel says.

threadripper Where is the 14 Core ThreadRipper
TechyInAZ posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
I thought AMD had a 14 core threadriper sku coming out, I can only seem to find the 8, 12, and 16 core skus.
