Hello everyone! I currently have an Alienware Aurora R9 which currently contains: i7 9700k (overclocked 4.8 ghz) As anyone familiar with Alienware knows this case is extremely cramped with MAYBE 65 mm of CPU overhead clearance. I am stuck between a low-profile CPU cooler or a 120 mm liquid cooler. The higher quality brand low-profile air coolers, such as the Noctua NH-L12S are a few mm too tall for the case. What would you guys recommend I go with to cool my CPU? A shorter, but possibly less efficient air cooler? Or perhaps a 120 mm liquid cooler? Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, so I've been planning a new gaming rig for the last week or so and I've reached the point where every idea I'm having is triggering repeating loops of "but but but" I kinda want to make sure I've got enough thermal headroom to overclock a 6700k, but the more digging I do, the more I want to revisit the idea of an AIO cooled GPU in the rig... But given the restraints of the air 240, I'm not too comfortable with the idea of actually slapping the H100i in there AND a Seahawk GPU... I've done some reading up, and people do seem to be able to get away with cooling an overclocked 6700k to the 4.6-4.7GHz range with the C7 and the NH-C14S. The thought is that I'd be much less likely to tax the CPU to max vs the extra headroom I may get using a seahawk... AIO CPU setup A: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/kFBpBP AIO CPU setup B: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/XGsFsJ Air CPU setup A: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/CYVQPs Air CPU setup B: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/xpZ34C With regards to case fans, I've left them out for simplicity, but I'm going to at least install a pair of static rated 120's as intakes and 80's for exhaust for air cooling. If AIO run, then probably any fans I can jam in there as intakes, with the rads running exhaust... But since I'm not that well versed, I'd prefer to have a few more thoughts to see if anyone can help shed some light on how I might want to proceed...

Hey guys, I was looking to buy a Corsair Water Cooler maybe a H100i, to start some OC. Been doing some research on them then specifically more of the Closed loop ready to go systems like Corsair, Kraken, etc. And ive always thought about Open loop custom water cooling systems which i would consider planing to do for my rig in the future. So then started thinking maybe I should spend a lil' extra money and make my own CPU water cooler? I know Ekwb, Xspc, and even thermatake is tier brand when it comes to watercooling parts. Maybe buying seperate parts, cpu water block, 240mm rad, and hoses from those brands wouldn't be a bad idea. And if i do end up doing this, i can always expand my cooling system from there too right? My question is. Is it even worth making your own cpu water cooler? Would it perform much better than the Corsair, Nzxt kraken, 'Closed Loop' systems? And if what parts exactly do i need to make a Cpu water cooling system? I couldnt find AMD+ cpu water block from ekwb or xspc, idk maybe there are but didn't research hard enough or missed it. But i did find one from Thermatake. Can you Mix up brands in parts? (Like using a Thermatake Cpu block with ekwb rad or resavoir? What are the disadvantages of a closed loop system? Thank you..

I was planning to clean my CPU cooler (Cryorig R1 Universal) and renew the heatsink's thermal paste, but I'm missing the long screwdriver that came with it. Are there any specific screwdrivers that would do the job, or does Cryorig offer a replacement? Any help is appreciated greatly. Thanks!

Does someone know a cheap cpu waterblock and radiator? So i mean whats good and cheap... i want to watercool my pc but i dont have that much money..
-
This may seem kinda weird, but should the water cooler pump fan header be plugged into the CPU cooler fan header or the system fan header? Same question for the fan on the radiator. Thanks!

I've been running a 3930k for 4 and a half years now with this cooler: http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX36377 Doesn't seem so bad, right? Not super cheap, mounted well, decent enough airflow, good paste, blah blah blah... At idle, the 3930k on this cooler sits around 42-45 C. At half load it'll jump into the 75-80 C range. At 100% load it will throttle from a 42x multiplier to a 37-39x after about 10 minutes. Without any overclocking (38x multiplier) It will sustain a 100% load for quite awhile before throttling but it will do so around the 85 C to 90 C range. Tj Max is 91C on this CPU. If you're running a CPU that pumps out a lot of wattage, especially if you're overclocking it (this can touch 200w at 100% load with a 43x multiplier), throw on a higher-end CPU cooler. I don't have any hard and fast recommendations other than the fact that the one I linked just isn't cutting it. It really seems like, for an E-series CPU you'll need a cooler with more surface area to heat up and remove heat from the CPU than a midrange CPU cooler can provide. Naturally, because it's running so hot, it's also a very noisy PC once you have any load. Do yourself and your ears a favour and throw a high-end cooler on an E-series chip.

Hey all! Im working on a build, and I've got all the parts except for the cpu cooler now. Originally I was going to have a Corsair H100i v2 or GTX for the cooler, but I'd like to know if there's any other decent cooling solutions (both air and water) that would allow me to overclock a 6700K and fit inside the Corsair Air 240.

Hey! these are my specs: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Wolfiowww/saved/WYP2FT That cpu cooler.. Does it have thermal paste? or stock or idk? (i never heard of a thermal paste before but it sounds good) If not do i need to buy it and when i build my pc put it there? And what does a thermal paste do? (im not going to overclock my pc) How much will the temprature be with and without thermal paste Is thermal paste deadly for the cpu or something? Dajum many questions..

I have gotten my hands on an old HP XW8400 dual CPU server. I bought two intel x5365 CPU's which have a tdp of 150 watts. The machine had only one CPU installed so I scavenged another 771 cooler (this one does not fit, the screw is too small and the threads are different). The cpu cooler that was in the machine had been performing reasonably well before I upgraded with temps around 30°C. But this cpu was around 65 watts so when I used it to cool the x5365 it did horribly, idling at 50-60°C (Tcase is 62°C) so that does not work. I can not find anything that fits on a socket 771 that could possibly cool this beast. Pulling a Linus on this build and using zip-ties will not work because of the way 771 coolers are mounted to the case itself. The only solution I could find is to buy a complete water loop. That would just be stupid because it would be more expensive then the whole system combined. All ideas are welcome even tho they seem super stupid.

Hey guys, I'm planning on making a 6700k build (mobo and all). I have an original Cooler Master Cosmos (yeah, the one from like 2006) and I'm planning on upgrading to a Corsair 900D case. I feel I wouldnt be doing this build justice if I didn't plan to liquid cool it but I cant really find what it is I personally am looking for. All the liquid cooling kits seem to lack heart, but searching myself for the perfect this or that without really knowing whats good or bad isn't helping much. At the moment I just need to cool my cpu but I want to be able to add a 1080 to the loop once it A) comes out and B) gets a block. The 900D has plenty of real estate for rads so I was thinking something like a 420mm or 480mm rad (hell maybe even 2 if itd help for the gpu). Money isnt much of an issue for this build but I am a fan of price per performance so I'm not just gonna get something because its more expensive. While this is my first liquid cooling project I know my way around these kinds of things and am not worried about the risks or challenges associated with pumpin water (inb4 its not water) through my comp. Tl;dr, new build in a 900D, need advice on setting up my first liquid cooling build.

So I have managed to get my hands on a Lian Li PC Y6 (Black) and I am looking to build an awesome Mini-ITX system. The problem is, available space in the case is very limited, so if I want to even put a decent graphics card (ideally GTX 1080) and CPU (ideally Sky Lake S in Q4) cooling is going to be a proper b***h. THAT WAS until I saw this Dual CPU & GPU closed loop liquid cooling setup at my local pc gear store. http://www.idcooling.com/Product/detail/id/56/name/HUNTER%20DUET My question is, why hasnt this been done before? and will companies like Corsair and the likes adopt the concept or has there been some decent research into it which has shown it really isnt all that advantageous. ...Yes I understand there won't be room for the dual rad in my setup, however, if the flood gates to open and the market does see more of these dual closed loops, I am sure there will be something compatible. Let me know your thoughts!! Lian Li PC Y6 http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-y6/

Hello all, I am trying to decide between the cryorig R1 ultimate and the NZXT Kraken x61 to cool a very overclocked i5-6600k. I know that many of you will tell me to ditch both and get a nocuta cooler, but the asthetics just ruin it for me too much, so that's not on the table. I have the breathing room within my budget for this, so I am wondering about noise levels, and difference in performance, real world. All opinions welcome, but be polite please. Thanks!

Hey fellas... Well recently I got a dual tower heat sink and I found a series of copper pipes running from the bottom to the tower... I know that copper is a goooooood conductor of heat, but what are those pipes gonna do with the heat... If it is water then the pipes seems reasonable... But what is the use of having cylindrical pipes ?? is that gonna work in a hidden way to transfer heat ?? Thanks in advance ....

Hello Everyone!!!! I was looking to upgrade my CPU cooler from air cooled to water cooled. I currently have a Cooler Master 212 and I would like to have a low temp stable OC for my CPU. My case is a Cooler Master Storm Stryker - Full Tower so space really isnt an issue. If you guys have any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it! Now onto the SSD issue I have a OCZ 120gb for my OS and a 1 tb WD black HDD. With the latest games I would like to upgrade my SSD to not just a new drive but a raid 0 setup with 2-3 SSDs. Price max (US Currency): CPU cooler: 150 SSD: 400 (For all of them) My Setup: Name: Little Boy (WW2 Reference) CPU: i7 4790k (LGA 1150) Motherboard: Asus Z-97A GPU: Asus Strix GTX 980 Memory: G-Skill 16gb 1866 PS: Rosewill Lightning - 1000w (80+ Gold) SSD: OCZ 120g HDD: 1TB WD Black Case: Cooler Master Storm Stryker - Full Tower

Hey guys, I recently just upgraded my prebuilt pc(ik, horrible decision in my part). Its about 2 years old and I decided to upgrade my gpu and power supply And while the gpu works great, Im afraid that I might be killing my cpu slowly. When playing Blackops3/AC my temp min is around 70degrees C, max is about 92 which is crazy. On idle it sits around 40-50, 60 on light load(games such as leagueoflegrnds)Also upgraded from stock cooler to Hyper T2, the only only one that fits in my case, but seen no difference on heavy load. I have used both HWMonitor and NZXT cam for monitoring. Heres my specs: AMD A10 6700 with integrated graphics 8gb Ram Msi GTX 970 100 ME 600W PSU 1TB HDD Windows 8.1 Hyper T2 Cpu Cooler Additional Noctua 92mm fan for rear exhaust Although I am planning to uograde soon, id like to keep this pc as it is and ifpossible run these games on a safe temp. If you have any suggestions, itwill be greatly appreciated

Im looking to get a black heatsink for my build, i dont really want to spend that much (~$50 max) but i want something that has decent cooling and most importantly is black. I was thinking about spaypainting/polydiping the heatsink black on a hyper 212 evo. Also i was thinking about just getting a Corsair h60 and not have to paint anything. I just want to know if paining will be ok or if i should just try and find a black heatsink. thanks for any advice/things you can find.

i have just ordered a corsair air 240. i have tried researching this best i can, with the result of confusion. i will be having an ITX mobo with z170 chipset in the 240; along with the 6600k cpu that i will want to try and overclock it to around 4.6 what i am trying to figure out is what the best way cool the cpu while not raising temperature with the GPU too much in the case. im debating between the corsair h100i gtx, be quiet pure rock, noctua nh-u12s. lastly, i do want to keep the noise down as much as possible. i read that the h100i gtx can be very loud, but i am not sure how true that is. what cpu cooling solution is best to overclock in the corsair air 240, while keeping the noise down in the case? thanks.

Please do not suggest any other cooler. IMO: The Seidon is better performance-wise, 2 JetFlos in Push/Pull a single JetFlo fan, which are BTW "THE ONLY LED FANS TO GET" (as per OCN Dave). Not sure about the pump/rad though. This is cheaper. The Captain is more of an aesthetic pick. I was like "DAT PUMP THO" when I saw it. Also not sure about the pump/rad. I've seen a review where they say that the rad on this thing is a bit spaced (in terms of fins) as compared to corsairs. The fan on this is a single "Japanese" FD Bearing. Pump power is about 3W for the Seidon and 2W for the Captain. Note that I'm only basing my opinions on things I see here in the internet. I have ZERO experience in water cooling and even PC building. This will be my first build. The "where it all started" build. So, how about you guys? CPU to be cooled will be an overclocked G3258 on an H81m mobo in a BitFenix Prodigy M. I'm thinking that since there are voltage limits on H81m the maximum overclock will be bottlenecked by that instead of the temperatures. Rad will be on rear exhaust. While all other case fans will be on intake. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT SUGGEST: A CHANGE OF CPU A CHANGE OF MOBO ANOTHER BUILD SAVING UP MORE MONEY TO GET A BETTER BUILD This discussion should be purely performance. Not price. I'm willing to change their fans into Scythe GTs on Push/Pull FOR SCIENCE.

I'm building a LAN party/video editing machine out of parts salvaged from my old mid-tower rig, and I'm trying to decide what kind of CPU cooler to go with. I know this isn't the most pivotal decision, but I have some interesting ideas. Here's a list of the parts I currently have... Lian Li PC-TU200 case Asus Z87I-Deluxe motherboard (LGA 1150 socket) Intel i7-4770k with stock cooler fan 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance Black RAM PNY GTX 560 Ti 850w Thermaltake Black Widow PSU Sandisk 120GB Ultra II SSD WD Blue 1TB HDD I'm putting this thing together tonight. Only thing I don't really like about it is the fact that it relies on a single fan to cool the entire rig. It's not so bad, but I feel like I could have a more ideal climate inside if I choose my parts correctly. The TU200 uses that single 140mm fan to pull air into the front of the face and exhaust it out the back. My first course of action was to rip the stock fan out and replace it with a purple Corsair AF140 airflow-optimized fan. I was thinking that it would be cool to get an aftermarket CPU cooler with a perpendicular fan, and aim the fan out the back of the case to assist with air flow. The only problem is that the case limits me to a CPU cooler profile of 80mm, which makes finding perpendicular-fan coolers very difficult! I did manage to find one, though... the Dynatron K666. It's an 1155/1156 cooler, which means it'll fit my 1150 socket. I've been thinking about picking one of these up, ripping out the fan, and putting an aftermarket 60mm in its place. Maybe a Vantec Stealth? What do you guys think? The whole operation will cost me about 50 bucks, which isn't too bad, considering this is the rig I'll be using most for the forseeable future. Do you think the perpendicular 60mm fan will give me better temperatures than a normal downward-facing fan would? (Well, I say downward-facing, but the board is mounted on the case's wall.) Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
