How do I connect high amperage fan to the motherboard safely?
YeetTheAn3On posted a topic in Cooling
I have 2 server fans I want to install to a closed PC with 2 GPUs for better ventilation. Each fan draws 2.5 amps and the mobo fan headers are capped at 1 amp. If I connect the positive and negative wire of the fan straight to the PSU, and PWM & TACH to the motherboard, will unsafe current run from the PSU to the mobo? -
I really like the look of the z63 but I think the liquid freezer has better performance, is it a big difference, or small enough that I can go for looks. for a 13900k btw

I have recently purchased an NZXT H5 flow and I am looking to add some extra fans for extra air flow. Currently using the two fans provided with the case. These are fine but only seem to run at about 850 RPM (Noise isn't a massive issue as CPU fan will always be the loudest) Looking for some good value fans (Around 1200+ RPM) to add to the case, probably 120mm but i'm sure the case supports 140mm. Also I will now need to get either a fan splitter or hub as I am now out of motherboard fan headers, i'm not sure if a fan hub will be beneficial? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Sry If my my Question is a little Bit silly. Hey, I Just noticed that my CPU Cooler Fan does Not Spin in the Same direction as my other Fans & was asking myself If I'm Losing possible cooling. I have this PC For around 2 months now and my CPU has never Hit more than 65°. So i'm not worried about overheating or other Problems, Just want to know if i should keep it that way or Flip the Fan.

So I bought this laptop a month ago and the temps were crazy i want to play games but it self turn off after hiting +95C so i wanted to clean it and replace the thermal paste, but when I opend it and try to clean it wit 99% isopropanol and cottonswaps it just wouldn't go off and when i try to get it of the cpu and gpu die it ''broke'' of into some small metalish like peaces. Any help will be nice

Need a good tower cooler for an older PC of mine that I am giving away to a friend, but don't want to buy them something that'll cool only the chip that I have in the system right now, but would like to give them headroom for any possible upgrades they might do. The current chip is I7-7700K.

I was searching on how to connect fans in a NZXT H9 Flow (max. 10x120 mm fans), but I am still not sure if my conclusions are correct. Also I understand that I do not need a fan controller. Let's assume that I have such parts: case: NZXT H9 Flow motherboard: ASRock B760 Pro RS cpu cooler: MSI MPG CORELIQUID K360 V2 7 fans: Stella HP ARGB 120 PWM or Stella HP ARGB 120 I would connect stella hp argb 120 pwm/dc fans in a daisy chain to one of the argb controllers (one fan is 0.4A, port will work up to 3A) and to 4 pin chassis port for power (one fan is 0.1A, port will work up to 2A) and I will see 7 fans in signalRGB. About this particular AIO - there is a tutorial to follow MSI tutorial, but from what I understand it is completely separate from those daisy chained fans. I will see 3 separate fans in signalRGB even though a splitter will be used. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello I am new to pc building and still a little rough on cooling layouts. In the picture below is my confing. Ryzen 7800x3d Cpu Cooler ak620 Radeon 6950xt XFX 2x 120mm intake fans pushing air into the case dual tower cpu cooler 1x single 120m exhaust I have an extra 2 fans should I add another intake fan? add another exhaust? I want to make sure cooling looks good before I begin burn in testing.

Im looking for a heatsink for my PC, i currently have a be quiet slim and am looking to upgrade it as Im looking to upgrade my CPU in future. So far my choices are; Noctua NH-D15 Thermalright Phantom Spirit (Non-SE or SE whatever i can get my hands on easiest and cheapest) or to kick it up a notch; Coolermaster MA824 Basically, is there anything better than these listed, im looking for performance first and foremost, price doesnt really concern me but if performance is even or extremely similar then id rather go cheaper (obvs ). Im not looking for an AIO or any form of watercooling, any suggestions?

Hello! Build List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gkr6RK I am looking for help & suggestions on my temps for my cpu & gpu in my current config. Just got my new pc setup and all drivers & firmware updated. Absolutely shredding performance on this and I love it. Only adjustments to BIOS: XMP Profile [enabled] Re-bar [enabled] TEMPS: Under average gaming load- CPU 64-70° GPU 77-82° This is with a push pull front mounted radiator setup. 3 pushing Lian li 120mm UNI V2’s 2 pulling Lian li 140mm UNI V2’s 3 exhaust Lian li 120mm UNI V2’s I have the 120mm’s setup to HIGH fans speed curve profile 140mm are constant full speed to try an match the idle speed of the 120’s Are my temps on up to par? or could they be better? Thanks!

Hello! I have an unusual case of my 5800X starting to become hotter when I absolutely had no expectations to. I had built my PC at the start of this February and when I combined a 5800X with a Noctua NH-U12S, Arctic MX-6 thermal paste, and have it in a case with very good airflow, I managed to catch an unusually low 27C as my idle temp, even overclocked at 4.375 GHz. This floored me, and I swear that I am not joking and that I wish I took pictures of it. Now, seven months later before upgrading my motherboard's BIOS (removes an AMD security flaw with the boot setting), I saw that the idle temperature was now at 40-42C. This spike made me do some immediate routine maintenance after the upgrade like checking for dust (looked fine), dismounting the Noctua fans off the heatsink and blowing some compressed air to try and remove and lodged dust (wasn't really much, and it made no difference), and finally removing the fans again to retighten the side screws to from the heatsink to the mount. I had to tighten them quite a considerable amount but when I started up my PC my idle temp was still 42C. I get that this might sound like a first-world problem because 42C is still perfectly usable for a 5800X of all processors but was I not getting the correct temps when I first built this PC or is something else? I also have no recollection of changing any power settings in Windows but I can provide info and receive feedback for what to tweak. Thanks for any help I can get!

Budget (including currency): €950 Country: Ireland Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming and watching videos ( games like 6 siege, csgo, cyberpunk, valorant Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I plan to play on 1080p at 90fps-150fps and maybe 1440p in the future. Here is my list for parts and i have 2 Y-spliters to plug all the fans so they can all be controlled because my motherboard only has 3 fan headers and 1 is used for CPU cooler( Comes with the CPU). And wifi is essential cant run a cable. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Xs34n6 I would like to know how many fans i need because right now im planning on getting 6 (5 arctic p12 pwn) and 1 included case fan. I want my PC to have good cooling and quiet if if slightly loud its fine.

Hi so I just built my first pc last week and I was initially having some thermal problems but it was because I did not have enough thermal paste, after fixing the cooler I get idle temps of 28-30° and during gaming my temps are 50°-70° usually stays around the 55-65 ° for gaming but ranges from 50-70. The problem I’m having is when I run cr23 benchmark or heck even intels own xtu benchmark the temps right away skyrocket to 90-95 and thermal throttles. Right after the benchmark the cooling brings it down to 30° again. I’m really confused on why the benchmark is throttling so much when my pc runs really cool in general in these tasks . I’ve reattached my cooler a couple times the first 2 times I had too little or too much thermal paste so it wasn’t cooling right but now the cooling seems to be perfect expect during these benchmarks. Some advice please? SPECS: cpu: i7-13700k Gpu: 3060 ti Cooler: DeepCool LS720 360mm AIO Mobo: Asus prime z790-p Wi-Fi Case: Lian Li o11 dynamic - 3 Corsair fans as intake , 3 fans from aio as exhaust Psu: MSI MPG A750GF

Hi there! I am posting on behalf of my husband. We are both music producers who use FL studio for our work and within the past two days he's been having some cooling issues with his CPU for no apparent reason. His CPU is an i9 9900k. When he's idle, temps are fine and they will be fine for a bit when he's working, but occasionally temps will spike into critical. (Over 100c°) My thought is that maybe his thermal paste needs replaced but I'm not entirely sure. I know a little bit about pcs but not all too much. He's had his pc for a little over 2 years and does work on it on an almost daily basis. He did recently instal an M.2 SSD but I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with the cooling. Any advice or suggestions is more than welcome. Thank you!!!

I know there are a lot of similar posts but i needed to have a one on one talk with someone myself. Im running an asus tuf laptop with an R7 6800H and an RTX 3050ti. The idle temps seem to be around 60 degrees C and below which is decent for a laptop. However while playing, say OW2 the temperatures climbs up to 90 degrees C on low settings. since the idle temps are decent i dont think its problem of thermal paste or clogged air vents since its a new system. The fans also ramp up to max speed at high temps. So my first question is - How safe is it to operate at this temperature for the overall health of the cpu since i plan to use it for 5 years. Secondly - Say if im playing god of war then the cpu utilisation is decent so it makes sense for high temps but while playing ow2 the cpu utilisation is like 10-20% which wont make sense why the cpu temps go so high. I also saw a setting in the power plan in control panel where i can change the max power state of the cpu. Would it help to run the cpu on a low enough power to prevent from heating. This whole heating issue is with the cpu only - the gpu seems to be fine. Thanks in advanced.

I can’t get my GPU fans to run on boot stably anymore. I was able to do it once by fiddling around with afterburner but idk if I got lucky or something but they just stopped spinning and won’t spin up again. It’s a Dell Optiplex 5070 with a i5-9500 and an RX 6600, so I can’t just adjust GPU fan curves in the bios or anything. It’s a PowerColor Fighter RX 6600.

So I bought this MasterCooler 240mm AIO V2 the other day and fresh out of the box it made grugling noises. Ik its a bubble in the system but I have had it running for around a week now and it didn't go away The AIO is top mount so I don't think the way that is mounted is the problem I only hear noise coming from the raditor is self not the pump should I be concerned?

I have a lenovo ideapad 3 for 2 years and i am going to replace the thermal compound in it because it has been running a little bit hot. It has a core i5-10210U cpu and mx130 gpu. I play nfs most wanted 2012 occasionally and use it for watching movies and doing school projects. I have considered using the honeywell ptm7950 but it is not available in my counter and is too expensive. So, what would be a good thermal compound for my laptop?

I'm looking at PCs and trying to decided with cooler to get. My use cases will be gaming as well as cad, video editing, and the occasional overnight render. I know the 13700k runs hot, and I don't want to pay for only to learn performance on the table, even with undervolting. Will a 280mm AIO be enough, or do I just need to bite the bullet and go 360mm?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the LTT Forums so hopefully this is an ok place to post. I currently own a Razer Blade 15 Advanced with an i7-10875H and an RTX 3070 (95W TDP) and I've had it for about two and a half years. About every 6 months, I open it up and clean the dust out of the fans and the heatsink using compressed air, but I have noticed recently that the CPU is idling at about 70 to 80 degrees Celsius even after most of the dust is removed (at least from what I can see). The GPU idles around 50 degrees which I'm not worried about. When I first bought it, it was idling at around 30 to 50 degrees and cleaning it would help a bit, but over time it still seems to be getting hotter. I don't live in a dusty environment and the ambient temperature is always around 20 degrees at the moment. The temperature is not currently a problem unless I load it (and then I just figure it's a laptop so I'm expecting throttling and 95 to 100 degrees anyway), but it is currently winter where I live and it might become more of a problem in summer. Should I be looking to replace the thermal paste? I am comfortable with doing so, but I would rather avoid doing it if it isn't necessary since laptop components are particularly delicate. My laptop is also my only computer. Are there any other ways I can decrease my temperatures while still maintaining performance? I have seen that some solutions involve undervolting, but I have little experience with altering voltages and clock speeds. At least from what I can see, there is not a huge amount of information about this online, and what is there appears dependent on specific hardware and situations. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a temp sensor on my reservoir that's connected to the thermal sensor header on my motherboard. Is there a way to show that graph in MSI Afterburner monitoring? I usually have it open to show me all the stuff, and I have tried activating all the plugins, but non of them lets me show it. I can find it in HWInfo64, and I use "Fan Control" to tune my fans based on the water temp. My motherboard is a Asus ROG Strix B550-f

Hi Everyone! So I built my first PC a month ago and I've been enjoying it so far and haven't had any issues with it other than PSU coil wine when I play or do anything on the system that demands a lot of power I guess? Or at least that's what I've been able to diagnose (Corsair HX850 PSU btw, and yes I made sure it was my PSU and not GPU). Just wanted to ask questions about my exhaust fans (3 and 5 - See the Diagram for reference), and more specifically my top mounted 140mm exhaust fans. I've realized that the one near the rear of the case is the one that usually exhausts the hot air out more than the one in front of it, because when I put my hand over both of them the one towards the rear is usually exhausting hotter air. The other one is usually exhausting colder air which tells me that it's not really doing anything, so I've been thinking should just reverse both and have them be intake fans as the GPU hotspot temp usually hits 80 degrees-ish when I'm gaming on maxed everything (with RTX if its stable enough, although its not too much of a concern for me). This would mean the only exhaust fan would be the rear stock fan that came with the Lian Li Lancool 3. YES I AM AWARE that the extra PCIE cables are hanging onto the 24 pin motherboard connector but I don't really feel like cutting them off and you know, it works lol. Thoughts, comments, recommendations would be nice as I'm kind of learning how to optimize my system as I go; this is all a new experience to me, I've also added 4 pics for you guy to look at. Thanks :)
