Hello! I am thinking of upgrading my computer for around $500-$550. My specs are an i7 3770 on a gigabyte h61 motherboard, 8gb of ddr3 1333, a Gigabyte GTX 650, an Antec 300 Case, a 500gb 7200 rpm hdd, and a Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 500w psu. Should I begin building a new pc so I can overclock and make a better looking rig? I do mainly gaming at 1080p and record and edit gaming videos. It would be awesome if I could get some help asap, as I am going to Microcenter tomorrow to pick up things. I would want upgrades that make my pc perform and look decent.

My dad's main use for the build is for Photography (viewing and editing photos he's taken) and watching HD movies. Also, he wants to hook the build to his large Samsung HD plasma TV. Probably another thing to note, he's NOT a gamer. What components would you suggest that together cost under $2000CAD and that includes the type PC monitor.

My motherboard was short circuiting because the USB was faulty. Fixed the short circuiting by pulling the USB plug from the mobo. Now the mobo is short circuiting checked the PSU,GPU and RAM and becuase of that it wont post. Before that the GPU wasnt displaying sometimes was i t because of the GPU it self or the mobo.By the way GPU when working was working perfectly. Is it worth just buying a whole motherboard because it costs about the same to replace because of shipping I dont have much time.

Hello. I decided to join these forums because my questions usually go unanswered in the videos(like no answers from other subscribers either) So the other day i had an accident with my current PC that is some shitty HP computer marketed as a good gaming pc and back then i didn't know any better so i went and fudging bought it and in reality the gaming power was pretty weak so i bought another gpu in it. Anyway after my accident i managed to salvage the HDD drive, my 8gb of low quality ram(doesn't even have those cool heatsink thingies so must be low guality), my optical drive, my GPU(which is an Radeon R7850 and i have another one too which i wanted to install there earlier to cross fire them but it was an mini itx board so no second PCIE slot and the damn PSU was probably too weak to support another gpu, so i was a total air head) and i managed to salvage my CPU (which is an intel i7 2600k and i checked my local component store and it still cost like 348€ and that is crazy because they sell i7 4770k with smaller price so i think that it can't be that bad). Now due to aging pretty much all of my friends are turning to the consoles with this "next-gen" and how easy and comfortable it is and i have just grasped the magnificent world of PC gaming so i'm in no hurry to leave now that i have tasted the so called "sweet nectar of the forbidden fruit" that is better graphics and high frame rates and with unparking my cpu in BF4 i got turn my texture settings all the way from low to ultra and some other settings don't remember what anymore from low to high and it kept pretty much the same framerate which blew my mind, both the graphics AND the performance with the unparked cpu and one R7850 while the other gpu was collecting dust. So now i have about 450$ in my pocket and i need a new: Case PSU(keep in mind i have 2 GPUs and in the future i'm looking to upgrade to something little more power consuming than two R7850s that both have only one 6 pin power "hole") Motherboard(supporting X-fire and SLI and my i7 2600k cpu) SSD(120gb) 8 gb of ram(i like making videos every now and then and i think another two 4gb chips would help in some extent with the rendering and stuff) I'm also upgrading the OS from Win7 to Win8 but i didn't that to the count because i already have that one covered. Since my knowledge is very limited, i would be very greatful to hear the recommendations of the great people here in LinusTechTips forums. I live in Finland and i'm extremely hesitant to use online shopping places like amazon and such due to previous bad experiences with online shopping but i might be willing to take the risk of using them if some of the parts are a lot cheaper there. Thank you in advance and i hope i hear from someone. Sorry if this is in wrong section but i'm in hurry and didn't find a section for building PCs or help noobs with their shit. Have a nice day.

So, I am building a gaming PC. I already have the CPU (i5-4670K) and GPU (MSI GTX760 TF 2GB OC), and will probably have the rest by Christmas. The only things I am not sure about are the thermal paste/ compound, the motherboard and the monitor. I was thinking about the IC Diamond 7 and the Coollaboratory Ultra. But I have heard that the diamonds scratch the CPU and that coth the IC Diamond 7 and the Coollaboratory Ultra can corrode and destroy the CPU and the CPU cooler. If you know anything about that or know other good thermal paste/ compound please let me know (I'm going to OC the CPU with the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler). Now to the Motherboard... I looked into the MSI G45 Gaming, which would be good with the GPU, and I looked at some ASUS boards. I would like Wi-Fi, but the boards I looked at that do have that, cost $200+ and my budget for the MOBO is around $150. Also a MOBO that I can easily OC my CPU and GPU with would be great. I am liking the BenQ RL2450HT, but it is an RTS monitor and I will mainly be playing FPS games. Is it still a good decision? The FPS monitors from BenQ are all $200+ and I wouldn't like to spend more than $190... But there aren't many monitors with high refresh rates etc. for that price. Any advice? Any advice is appreciated (as this is my first build) and please tell me if you see that some of my components don't work together well (bottlenecks etc.) The list of my specs is here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2b6bQ or see the picture below.

I'm going to build my first watercooled PC in about 6 months (or after the GTX 800 series is released) I will be reusing the motherboard, ram and CPU from the current PC so the only things that I'm really changing are the case and GPU. I will put a link to the best page I found but because I currently live in sweden it will be in swedish, though you can easily get around that if your using Chrome because you can translate the page. Specs (for the water cooled build): CPU: Intel i7-4770K Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H RAM: Crucial BallistixSport 1600MHZ GPU: GTX 800 series (probably an 880) Case: Corsair Obsidian 750D Storage (simplified): 1 SSD and 1 HDD PSU: Corsair RM850 Water cooling (this is what I need help with): Pump: Swiftech MCP655 Reservoir: Need help with. http://www.coolerkit.se/shop/reservoarer-263s.html I have mainly been looking at cylinder resevoirs but I am open to using other ones (but please consider the case I'm using and mounting options). CPU Waterblock: Need help with. http://www.coolerkit.se/shop/intel-sockets-370c1.html I need whatever is the best from this site. Or whatever offers the best price to performance (as long as it is has good performance!). GPU Waterblock: I don't need help with this (yet) because I'm waiting for the GTX 800 series. Radiators: This is what I'm thinking for this: Triple 120mm rad in the top (or is it better to have a dual 140mm? the case supports both) Dual 140mm rad in the front Dual 120mm rad on the bottom (or would it be better to not have a rad here and have the pump down here? and would that decrease performance?) http://www.coolerkit.se/shop/radiatorer-261s.html Fittings: Bitspower HF Push-on 13/10mm Tubing: PrimoChill PrimoFlex Advanced LRT 13/10mm (only thing I need to decide on with this is the colour, but that's something I can do on my own) Cooling Liquid: EK - Ekoolant Clear http://www.coolerkit.se/shop/ek-ekoolant-clear-2587p.html Fans: Noctua Redux PWM 120/140mm running at low rpm (or will I need them running at a higher rpm when im gaming or doing something which requires more power?) I have also been looking at the Corsair SP120 Low Noise fans but there are no SP 140mm versions, so instead I would have to use AF140's in the front rad. And I think thats mostly it. I have 2 final questions though. 1. Push or pull? (or both) What are the advantages of each (if any) and if I have both which rads should I have it on if not all of them? 2. Which fans/rads should be pulling air in and which ones should be pushing air out? At the moment I'm thinking about having everything pulling in and the rad at the top pushing air out (like Linus had in the Overkill build guide). Thanks!!!

Hey guys, could you tell which one is better Audio Techinica ATM-m50 or sony pulse elite? I already have sony pulse, but I found myself really uncomfortable. So I decided to change to another one around its price (120-130 no more.) and the only one that met all the quality, price, and comfort was the ATM-M50. Are the change worth or not? there better choice than the one mentioned before? You help will be appreciate.

Hello Everybody, I want to build my own computer, so I am taking my first steps at choosing components. Someone I know is selling his EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Superclocked GDDR5 ZGAN for $390, it's in a perfect state and he sells it with all of the other assecoires. which costs online, new, about roughly a $520. He used this card for only about 5 months and still has the 2 years of warranty at EVGA and Azerty(the webshop he bought it from). So my questions are; is it a good idea to buy second-hand computer components? As if its safe and durable? And what can I accomplish with having the warranty + invoice of the webshop he bought it from? If anyone could help me with taking this decision, Thanks in advance,

Hi all, I am looking to build a MicroATX gaming PC with at least 8 USB 2.0/3.0 ports. Anyone know of a particular brand/model motherboard that would support this? Also, any other part recommendations would be terrific. I like the portability, and I would like the 8 or so usb - it seems to me like that is sort of uncommon with the ATX boards - I am not even completely sure whether that is possible or not. Thanks for your help!! EDIT: Also, plan on overclocking, and want something with the good TMU/VRAM GPU for pc gaming mods implementing high resolution textures

Hello linus tech tip's forum members, i'm about to start my journey to become a pc gamer and i would like to know what you think of the parts I've picked out. My original budget was £500 but I've went over it a little bit so any suggestions to change it should reduce the price if possible, if there's nothing wrong with it i'm willing to spend the extra money for this at the minute. I plan to buy everything off aria pc and amazon within the next few days. i do plan to overclock at least a little bit. I play alot of different games like skyrim, civ, battlefield, minecraft if that effects what you think of the build. Right, so the other night my headset was disconnecting and connecting randomly for like a second... Then my keyboard started playing up and now ever since, my 2nd monitor has been flickering on and off for a second every 10-15 minutes I was wondering whether my PSU was getting overused and just cant handle running the 2 monitors and all of my power-hungry peripherals? CPU: i5-3570K GPU: GTX760 with 2x 23" IPS Monitors in Display Port and HDMI Ports Mobo: ASUS P8Z77-V LX RAM: 8GB (2X4) 5x Case Fans, noctua and Coolermaster, an NZXT Case LED Cable 1TB WD Green HD Optical Drive Finally, my PSU is a 500W Corsair CX500M Series Power Supply... On second thoughts, this is quite a low wattage for a PC with this power to be running under.. Could my PSU be the cause of the random power losses to my components? Thanks

Hi all,This will be my first home build PC. I'm looking to build something that will last for years, to be used primarily for gaming + the usual (internet, watching video's etc.).Basically, since this is my first build, i'd appreciate it very much if you can have a look over my parts list. See if there is anything I am wasting money on that I don't need, or anything you would recommend in place of the parts I have selected. I like good value, but never at the expense of quality, but I also don't like paying premium prices for a 0.5% increase in performance or something. I'm not familiar will all the brands and technical aspects of the parts, so i've been doing a lot of reading up over the last couple weeks, and I think i've come up with a decent system that will hopefully let me overclock in the future, but not extreme like multiple GPU's etc.I've gone for a setup that will allow me to wade in at the shallow end of overclocking in the future - once i've done my research.http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/list/ssGyVYRegarding the individual Selections:CPU: i5-6600K. I'm not going to be doing much in the way of video editing or anything like that, so the i7-6700K seems unneccesary - If later I find I need that, I could always upgrade with the next gen i7.CPU Cooler: This is probably the part I am most unsure of. Have put the Dark Rock Pro 3 in there for the moment. Other options would be the Cryorig H7 or Noctua NH-D14, or even the popular Hyper 212 Evo. However, I want to keep my options open on a moderate overclock for the system, so not sure if the 212 Evo will cut it or not? Am I wasting money if I go for the Dark Rock or Noctua? I've since been advised that the 212 Evo and H7 cool a moderately overclocked rig perfectly well, so then I would opt for the H7 in this build.Motherboard: Asus's Z170-A seems like a pretty good board for a nice price. Plus I like the look GPU: EVGA's GTX 1070 SC version. I'm pretty set on the 1070 really, so its just a matter of brand and version here. PSU: Options i've looked at here are the EVGA supernova (g2/p2/t2) 650w or the SeaSonic Prime 650w (titanium). Not sure if there is a certain brand better regarded. Case: If you have any recommendations for a nice case, please let me know. But honestly, I'm pretty in love with the look of the Dark Base Pro 900... If you have recommendations, primarily it should be good for air cooling, and have 2 5.25" bays available. May need to consider some additional case fans in future.RAM: I've put the Corsair vengence LPX in there for now, but honestly I don't really know which brand is best. From what i've been reading the LPX seems pretty good for the price. 2666 an unnecessary frequency perhaps? Should I go with 2400 or lower? As I understand it from reading up, the CPU will limit it to 2133 anyway, unless I enable something called the XMP profile in the bios. Since this would technically be an overclock, will I see any issues with the RAM heating up much if I do this?16GB may be a bit much perhaps, but if I get 8gb now and need to upgrade later it will cost me more so...Appreciate you taking the time to read thru this and voice your opinion.

Hi I'm planning on building a new high end gaming PC for games like ARK, Far Cry 4, HITMAN, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Batman: Arkham Knight, etc. I also occasionally do some 3D rendering stuff. I live in Switzerland and my intended budget is up to 2,000 CHF (approx. 1,980 USD or 2,600 CAD) which is intended for components and OS without peripherals. I mainly use between one and two full HD monitors but would be nice if it could handle more. Here are the components I've looked at so far: Mainbord: ASUS ROG Strix Z270E Gaming (LGA 1151, Intel Z270, ATX) CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K boxed RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x 8GB, DDR4-3000, DIMM 288) GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G Case: be quiet! Silent Base 800 Window (Midi Tower case) SSD: Samsung 850 EVO Basic (250GB, 2.5'', SATA) HDD: WD Blue (2TB, 3.5'') PSU: Corsair RM Series RM750x (750W) CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 (16.3cm) DVD/BD Drive: ASUS BluRay Combo BC-12D2HT bulk (black) OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (OEM, 64-bit) It would be nice if someone could double check my parts and/or suggest changes.

**I HAVE NOT BUILT THIS YET** This is going to be my first build so I'm just a petty noob at this stuff. I'm from Australia and doing a budget-orientated build. My budget is $1100 ($1030 USD) It's a pro AMD build This PC will be used for gaming, although not hardcore. Aiming to get at least 40fps on Battlefield 4. Attempting to overclock the CPU past 4.5 GHz I would just like to know if I've made the right decision with the following parts: CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor Cooling: Noctua NH-U12S Motherboard: Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard RAM: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB GPU: Gigabyte r9 270 Case: BitFenix Shadow PSU: Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply OS: Windows 8 Just let me know if there are any possible improvements to be made

Hello tipsters, I ordered all the parts for my first ever computer build last week and the first item arrived today! So, I wanted to share the experience with you guys as it all comes together. I played around with a lot of different component combinations before finally deciding on the ones that I thought were right for me. My original build was just over $10,000 AUD; which I was willing to pay but I came to the conclusion that spending that much money, just wasn't necessary. It consisted of dual titan x's, 5960x cpu and a 750 intel 1.2gb SSD, but I thought it was a little overkill. This slightly toned down version will be for gaming, streaming and hopefully I'll be able to do at least some video editing. Here's my compilation: Cpu: Intel Core i7 5820K Cpu cooler: NZXT Kraken X61 Liquid Mobo: Asus X99-Deluxe/U3.1 Memory: Corsair Vengenace LPX 2800C14 32gb (4x8GB) DDR4 Gpu: Evga Geforce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked, 6GB Sli (dual) Storage: Samsung 850 Pro SSD 1TB x 2 Psu: EVGA SuperNOVA P2 Platinum 1200W Power Supply Case: NZXT H440 Razer Edition Monitor: Asus Rog Swift PG279Q 27inch G-Sync IPS Monitor Fans: 3x Corsair Air Series SP140 High Static Pressure Geen LED fans O/S: Windows 10 Home USB Headset: Kingston HyperX Cloud II Red Gaming Headset Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Cherry Brown Keyboard Mouse: Razer Naga Mouse Pad: Steel Series Qck XXL Reasons why I chose a few of the items above. Starting with the power supply, I understand I don't need 1200watts but the 1000W was out of stock and there was only a $10 difference. I went with the Razer edition H440 not because I'm a razer fanboy but simply because I've always liked the black and green colour scheme and with the green LED fans, the green glow from the Geforce logo and the NZXT cooler set to green it should look quite nice (hopefully). My Monitor and Graphics cards both arrived in the mail today. Unfortunately, I got messed around with the mailing company and ran out of time to pick up my Gpu's. Monitor I'll post below: The box is a lot bigger than I was expecting. I'll continue to post as things arrive and again when everything comes together. Thanks for reading and sharing in my excitement.

Hi guys, I'm new here and was wondering if there were any members of LTT community from Africa. I just moved here fews months back and its been very difficult for me to ship components to build my PC. At some point, a $47 dollar cooler-master case (at amazon/us) was about to cost me $174, which includes shipping and custom duties. In short, my $500-$1000 budget pc could possible go up to $3000 if I were to go with the only option I have. And so guys, if there is anyone who could help me with a site or how to get Pc parts at affordable rates over here, I'd really appreciate it. By the way, below are pictures of my lovely Pc that I had to part with due to moving away.

Link: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Benyamin/saved/GyWNNG Edit: I changed some of the parts. Instead of a 32gb ram I chose 16gb but faster, and also included an ssd, lower wattage power supply, and a case with better airflow. This will be the build I plan doing. I will use this pc for programming, gaming, and possibly recording and editing game footage. I didn’t include case fans, cpu thermal paste, and etc. because it looks like those come with the parts. If there is anything you think that needs to be added/changed please let me know, and share your opinion. Thanks.
