System Specs- 2500k @ 4ghz, Asus p8p67 LE 16GB DDR3 1600 r9 290 @ 1100/1250 750w Corsair Bronze PSU First of all my motherboard really limits me to overclocking my 2500k. The last time I tried to OC it I got it to 4.3Ghz and lasted through Prime95 for about 1.5 hours before it bluescreen. Temps were no issue but the board's VRAM may have been getting toasty which may be another reason. Though I was watching a twitch stream during the run so maybe that caused it. Anyways. Basically over time and as I updated my drivers I feel my performance has decreased. When I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 and AMD 14.3 drivers I averaged on Battlefield 4 on Ultra with no AA or AA deferred around 105 ~ 120+ fps. I capped it at 120 because that is what I set my refresh my rate on the monitor to. The last time I updated my drivers I believe was 14.7. This driver caused a lot of stuttering and so I went back to 14.3 but it just wasn't the same. I always use Display Driver Uninstaller to uninstall old drivers. I recently updated to 14.12 and now I still have stutters and even less average frames with frames dropping all the way down to 55. That has never ever happened. I am using Mantle. A few months ago I tried to play Bad Company 2 and even when I had 100% 120fps steady it still was not smooth. It felt like 60fps and was stuttering. And here I am now playing Battlefield Hardline with stutters. I also noticed that my GPU usage is never stable, that shit is literally all over the place. Here is an example of what it looks like, except worse. What could be happening? Could my CPU be holding me back? I plan on getting a 390x when it comes out but I don't want to be limited by my CPU if that is the case. I am really trying to wait till Skylake comes out to upgrade my CPU and motherboard.

I did already make this forum post once, but I didn't get any help there. In addition, Sapphire support sucks so I thought I might be able to get some advice. I just built my first PC, and used a Tri-X R9 290 (my PCPartpicker link in profile) and the system boots up just fine. However, whenever I try and install the AMD Catalyst suite the system reboots and then the machine will only show the windows loading screen and nothing else. It won't boot up after that, only black. I have reinstalled Windows 3 times, and I have contacted Sapphire support about this, but haven't gotten a reply yet. Could someone please help? Thank you for your patience

Discounted from $500 until midnight, at this price it's probably worth getting over the 970's which typically come in at around $600-700 depending on model. I ordered one about an hour ago. http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=21381

Ok, so Linus have given us this video: But I can't help to wonder if the 4Gb of ram on the R9 290's will be enough to handle 3x1440p monitor? Currently I have a R9 290 graphics card, but I am considering buying a 290X instead. Heck, if it is needed for triple monitor gaming, I might end up buying a 295X card. What i am interested in, is if 2x 290 will be enough for 3x1440p , or if I will need something like a 290X due to the possibility of 8Gb ram. I have been looking, but does anyone know if there is any data on the amount of memory used in a 3x1440p setup?

I am looking to get either an NZXT G10 Kraken or a full loop (I have finally found a good watercooling place in Aus) but I have a Windforce 290 and I have seen other forum threads (which I don't trust as much as you guys) that say you need a reference 290. So is the Windforce 290 a reference PCB? I've had a look at pictures and it looks damn similar but I need to be sure Thanks

I'm setting up a build for my friend and his budget is roughly $750. This is the build I have currently, PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NCHbGX Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NCHbGX/by_merchant/ CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($169.88 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($88.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Seagate 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive ($84.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB TWIN FROZR Video Card ($179.99 @ Newegg) Power Supply: Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($34.00 @ Newegg) Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer ($13.99 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 - 64-bit (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.98 @ OutletPC) Total: $708.81 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-12-27 16:42 EST-0500 and I'm thinking of switching out the 8350 with a 6300 in order to get a 290. Would it be worth it? Would the 6300 bottleneck the 290? He isn't very tech savvy and just wants to get into PC gaming. He won't be doing anything like editing or something like that. Thanks for your input!
-
I made a post about this like 2 days ago and most people said that I would see a bottle neck, but i have been researching it and looking at other forums and I am seeing that I won't see a bottleneck. So, could somebody give me some evidence or somebody that had an experience where there card was bottlenecked, and if so, how much less performance were you getting? and just another side question, would a 280x be bottlenecked?

Just wondering if my Corsair 600W can handle a 4690K overclock and how much? Plus, would there be any room left for a GPU OC? Here's my sprecifications: Intel Core i5 4690K ASRock Z97M Pro 4 Sapphire R9 290 Vapor-X Corsair 600W 1 Hard Drive Kingston HyperX Fury 2x4GB

So recently im looking at new gpu's.... And the ASUS R9 290 is $239 USD, a after market cooled 970 is $339. The benches are close, all minimums over 60 in most games for both cards, Power and heat are worse with the 290's, but can $100 USD really justify that? Unless driving a 120/144hz monitor why bother with a 970? Are people that fanatical about power usage and heat? How does this even make sense? There has to be something im missing. So many people are buying the 970 w/o the 290 even being mentioned! Even for a budget card! It dosent make sense, please shed some light on me and tell me im crazy. EDIT: This is not a "Love AMD post" Im not a fanboy of either company, but why is the card being ignored so bad is the real question. They're dirt cheap, perform close to the same if it is at 60 hz you wont notice in basically all games. Also everyone using "Asus sucks argument" http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvr929wf34gd

GTX 970 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-strixgtx970dc2oc4gd5 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn970g1gaming4gd R9 290 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-axr92904gbd5ppdhe http://pcpartpicker.com/part/sapphire-video-card-100362vxsr This is what im looking at for upgrades, but which one is the real question. I have a Black/Blue theme build so the G1 and Vapor-x appeal to me. But are the 970's worth the extra price? Heat and Power consumption dont matter to much to me, either. Im leaning toward the 290's because they're cheaper, and the Vapor-x is so sexy, also the 970's could be sold out or take a while to ship. So id like some ideas or advice, thanks. If you want to recommend a different GPU make sure it has a backplate. and no "970 all the way" awnser's, state reasoning and why. Thanks. Quick little edit: I also record in arma 3 (main game i play) And i have some problems with AMD GVR (Press record and it wont record) so if someone could recomend me a better software to use or give me input on shadowplay that would be great.

Hi guys. I have a GTX 780 SLI in my system, and I would like to fill up the two remaining PCI slots with graphics cards. I have U$400, and I would like to: Have 2 AMD cards to use in AMD optimized games (or a dual GPU card) OR Have a dual GPU Nvidia card to use as a PhysX card for a while until I build my portable gaming PC (and use this GPU on it) OR Get my 3rd GTX 780 and have a 3-WAY SLI (but I know it will not give me a lot of performance over my current setup) I will buy the cards on Ebay, because I don't mind buying used hardware. What do you guys suggest? What cards do you recommend? I know that it is unnecessary, I know! Please, don't tell me it again! Motherboard: Maximus VI Extreme CPU: I7 4790k 4.8 GHz PSU: EVGA Supernova 1300w Gold

so i will sell my 280x because its a little underkill for gaming at 2560*1080 and i want to buy a sapphire 290 vapor-x at the moment. the problem is that i have three displays connected at the moment. one over dp, one over dual link dvi-d and one over dvi-i and then vga. for some reason the only 290 that has dvi-i is the gigabyte. so i can only connect my vga monitor to it with an expensive hdmi/vga connector box which makes the whole thing as expensive as a gigabyte 970 which has dvi-i. but i want the sapphire card because it looks damn good (i have a blue motherboard and blue ram). so i thought i perhaps could get some old nvidia drivers and use my old 550ti as vga display output while using my amd card for everything else. my questions are: is this even possible? can i somehow use the cpu vga output of my motherboard? do you have other solutions to this problem? and before you say it. yes for me its really worth the effort because i love this vga monitor thanks for your help

Building a new system, have this so far, and the XFX R9 290 is on sale. The only down side is that it's out of stock on Newegg, so I was wondering if there was a similar priced card that is similar to the 290. The 290 is also on sale for $265 on OutletPC. I originally had the GTX 770, but it was priced a little bit higher than the 290 when on sale. I plan on doing mainly gaming, and wish to be able to run games like Far Cry 4 on it well, mainly on 1080p. Here is my PC so far: CPU Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Combo or $209.99 CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing $29.88 Motherboard ASRock Z97 KILLER ATX LGA1150 Combo or $99.99 Memory G.Skill Trident X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 $66.99 Storage PNY XLR8 120GB 2.5" SSD $61.99 Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM $49.99 Video Card XFX Radeon R9 290 4GB Double Dissipation $239.99 Case NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower $64.99 Power Supply Corsair 600W ATX12V $53.99 Operating System Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) $86.42 Wireless Network Adapter Rosewill RNX-N180UBE 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 $12.99 Case Fan Corsair Air Series AF120 Red 52.2 CFM 120mm $14.98 The total is about $950. I'm on a budget so not really looking for anything more expensive, just another alternative or a way to save money. If there's also anything I should change, please let me know. Thank you.

System: Main board:biostar mcp6p m2+ Cpu: amd athlon II x2 245 PowerSupply: corsair cx750m gpu: r9 290 msi gaming edition Os: win 7 X64 so i managed to save up some cash and there was a deal on the r9 290 so i grabbed it, im replacing a nvidia 220 with it, yep ....a 220. i deleted the nvidia drivers, well i think i got all of them. initially it wasnot being detectd so i fiddeled arround turned on the integrated gpu booted up using the intigrated gpu and managed to install the drivers for the r9, device manager shows it as an Amd radeon r9 200 series, tried booting using the gpu no dice so i used the intigrated gpu again i noticed the r9 290 was putting out substancial heat and realised FAH decided that its working and decided to fold using it so im guessing the gpu is not dead. now here is where it gets kind of iffy.... my monitor only has a vga connector so i decided to get a hdmi to vga adaptor, an active one, when i plug the adaptor into the hdmi out on the gpu the monitor says not connected, i tried using the adaptor with the hdmi out on my laptop and it worked. heres a link to the adaptor: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Gold-Plated-Active-Adapter/dp/B00879DM56/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415259209&sr=8-1&keywords=cable+matters+hdmi+to+vga any ideas? atleast it folds =/

Recently, I built a rig with an M5A99X motherboard, MSI R9 290, 8 gigabytes of ram from Corsair, and an FX-8350. I've done a little bit of research on the CPU, and a lot of people say that it's better for multitasking and multi thread programs than the i5 equivalents, but the i5 is better at single thread programs such as most games. I'm wondering, is the FX-8350 still powerful enough to run games such as Planetside 2 or War Thunder? Because I've noticed that I sometimes get 35FPS framerate drops in Planetside 2, and it's not likely that the R9 290 is causing this (1080p resolution). Any help would be appreciated. PS. Sorry if this is a noob question, I'm still a computer noob. Just 2 months ago I was still using Pentium G620 + Integrated Graphics

I bought a gigabyte R9 290, and being 16 I wanted to make sure I made the right choice with my money. I bought it off of NewEgg for a total of $374. It did come with 3 free games from the AMD gift thing. (Don't plan on using it) Here's the Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125500 It's a little over kill in comparison to what I've used which is a EVGA GeForce 7800 GTX (8 year old card). I've spent month's looking for a good upgrade. And I feel like this was my best option for my money.I just want to make sure it was. So some confirmation that it's a good card from the LTT community will let me sleep well. Thanks in advance to anyone that is taking the time to read and reply to this.

Soooooo I'm biting the bullet and upgrading my graphics card. I've heard lots of good things about the Sapphire Tri-x series and there are some decent deals kicking about. I'm looking at the R9 290 and the R9 290X. I can there is a cost difference between the two, lots of good reviews about the 290 but not so many about the 290x, so what the difference and is the 290x worth the extra cost? Current set up is; Crosshair V Formula -z AMD FX 8350 overclocked to 4.6ghz 16gb crucial ballistics DDR3 @ 1600mhz X2 Sapphire 5770's vapor x in crossfire Samsung SSD 840 EVO primary OS drive Seagate SSHD program drive Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1 external soundcard with KRK Rokit 5 monitor speakers I also want the beasting 34" LG curved monitor! Anyone when that will be available in the UK?
