Hey guys I just recently built my first ever pc and after much research, I choose the ryzen 1700x. I have gigabyte aurous 370 k5, Gskill flare x 16gb that also needs to be overclocked and a asus gtx 1080 oc. I’m also cooling the cpu with a fractal design aio. And powered by Corsair 750x Any help or specific instruction guide would be amazing, Ive watch different guys showing they have hit 3.9ghz and 4.0 on my specific motherboard they just never show how. Any screenshots of settings would help a ton, im a serious beginner. Thanks everyone! I really hope i didnt mess up buying this MOBO.

One of my buddies is building a PC. He is completely new to it and I only have one PC under my belt, so I do not want to mislead him. If he is getting the ASUS Crosshair VI Hero and the G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB(2x8gb) DDR4-3000 memory, will he have issues? The config menu for the Crosshair VI Hero has the following memory frequencies listed: DDR4-2133 / 2400 / 2666 / 3200. Does this makes the 3000 memory kit unusable and/or less efficient? Thank you in advance for your help. PcPartPicker Link: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2GRnxY

As title said, Gaming 5 and K5 is slightly different board, I think most of it it's the same. But my question is more about OCing with this board. So if anyone here is an owner mind voicing your opinion about this board ? Actually what I really want is, is there like a VCORE Voltage Offset for this board ? What I saw with the ASUS CH6 is, you can set VCORE Voltage Offset, basically when you're Idling / light load, it won't consume / requires as much Voltage, thus making your CPU run nice and cool and of course longer life span. ( Not sure it will impact Performance though but I think It shouldn't ?? My current Intel CPU does that whenever Idle / less heavy load it will automatically down clock and undervolt as well ) But I heard many people claimed that as long you OC...your Voltage and Clock will be constantly be the amount you set no matter what you're doing even at Idle.

So i do a heavy amount of photo editing and gaming as well as multi tasking. I have never made or owned a pc before. I am used to working with macs mainly but have decided on making my own computer vs buying a pre built. I need to decide on the monitors for this build. Also if you see anything in this build you would change let me know. My price range for the monitors caps at 1300 usd. I however am not interested in an ultra wide i prefer separate monitors (i know that's weird my friends tell me im crazy all the time. Here is the link to the rig i want to assemble https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vQFX6X (bonus question) What color cable sleeving do i go for?

Hey, This is my first time trying to overclock anything so any input would be appreciated Basically I'm overclocking my Ryzen 7 1700x, and I've gotten it seemingly stable at 3.9ghz. I only say seemingly because I have yet to run a test on it for a long time; I've basically done many Cinebench runs and I ran Aida64 for a little less than an hour. I was thinking of downloading OCCT and doing a longer test, unless if you guys have a better idea or a different program recommendation. When I run Cinebench the voltage goes up to 1.395 and switches to 1.38-something at times. Running Aida64 the voltage is a little lower; staying mainly at 1.373 and sometimes hitting 1.38. I tried setting my CPU to 3.925ghz and it crashed right away when I ran Cinebench. This has probably been asked on here many times but I guess my main question is should I even bother trying to get a faster clockspeed if I have to go to 1.4+ volts? I've seen a few different answers regarding the max safe voltage on a Ryzen lol. Thanks!

I was considering building in a Fractal Design Node 202 in the future given how small it is, but I wanted to to still be fairly powerful so I'm limiting to my cooling options. With the Ryzen 7 1700X sounding like a good option for gaming and content creation, I started looking for cooling solutions for it and ran into the Noctua NH-L9a which can be fitted with a custom bracket. I had watched a video which suggested that it should work, but I'm not entirely sure. According to Notua's TDP guidlines, it should be fine with "good case ventilation," but I'm not sure if that can be achieved with a Node 202 and still be bearable have nearby in terms of noise. So given that information, do any of you think that this is possible given what I want to go with? I'm willing to go with a different case if it has support for a 2-fan GPU like the Node 202 does.

I just snagged a great deal on a Ryzen 7 1700x off Amazon for $300 here: http://amzn.to/2yYTXCs, but I am not sure if I actually need it. It's practically the same price as the 1700, but I don't do any content creation. The most I do is just gaming. I am debating on whether I should cancel the item and order a 1600x (save $80) or 1500x (save $100) or go with something totally different. I do like the idea of future-proofing my computer. (I am still running an Intel Core 2 Quad core with DDR2, a floppy drive, and 2 IDE CD drives.)

I am looking to upgrade my cpu/motherboard within the next coming months and I can't decide between Ryzen 7 1700x and the new Coffee Lake i7 8700k. I will be mostly gaming at 1080p with a 144hz refresh rate monitor on a gtx 1060, but I plan on picking up my video editing again once my i5 is out of the picture (took hours to export small videos). I will also be programming heavily within the next 1-2 years on the computer along with some light Photoshop. I'm currently leaning towards Ryzen because of video editing and I wont take a large hit on gaming with Ryzen ( I plan to overclock with a fractal design Celsius s36). Also my price range is around 500 - 550 for both CPU and motherboard, as I have to get a new cooler and ram as well. Hi, i’m looking to upgrade my current system (see footer) with a new cpu, motherboard, cpu-cooler and ram. The motherboard, cpu-cooler and ram i can figure out on my own but when it comes to cpu’s at the moment i have now clue which one to pick despite following all the news. I am looking for some advice on which cpu suits me best (please tell me why you think a particular cpu will suit me) The cpu needs to be suited for the following: I want to game on this computer. I want this computer to have the ability to stream to a streaming site at a decent resolution / frame rate. I want the computer be able to run Virtual Machines and / or be able to render a video at a decent speed (probably won’t be running vm’s and rendering a video at the same time.) Computer is also used for software development and web browsing / content consumption. I have looked at a couple of cpu’s but don't know which suits me best. Broadwell-E i7 6850k / x99 (maybe to old?) Kabylake-X i7-7800k or i7-7820k / x299 Ryzen 7 1700 or 1800 / x370 or possibly any other suggestions. I really don’t want to compromise on any features you get at that price level. i don't really have a budget but i am not paying more than 600 euro’s for a cpu and the less money spend the better it is. I hope you have some useful suggestions. Thanks.

Nice and simple. I don't know a whole lot about OC'ing, or much in general, But it just seems like my 1700X likes being a pain in the ass. It started off at 3.8Ghz @ 1.35v, Then after a reinstall of windows, That clock seems to just be very unstable. Not sure what's up with that, but whatever, I took it down to 3.6Ghz. And well, under heavy load, for example C15 benchmark, where it hits 100% load, the temp hits about 75C, and the screen will freeze for a few seconds, then come back, almost as if all motion has stopped and then skipped to where it would have been, had it never stopped in the first place. I'm not sure if this is a problem with my computer in general, or my OC, or something else entirely. But i'm quite boggled as to what is wrong. Ontop of that, I seem to be averaging a 36.5C idle temp, currently on 2% load It rockets up to 55-60C when watching a youtube video, and as stated before, tops out at around 75C I'm rocking a Corsair H115i with it's stock fans, and it seems to run better if i run it off the CPU package temp on the balanced preset. Then if i can't stand the rapid fan changes, and set it to the H115i Temp, it just tops out it's temp under any load, and stays there until i stop whatever i'm doing and just let it idle again So long story short, Do i need to just lower my OC, or my voltage, or something in my bios, Or is this possibly some kind of problem with my bios or cpu, or something. Like i said, I have no real idea what i'm doing here, and can only go off what i've read and watched from reliable sources, such as here, the LTT youtube, other tech youtubers etc. Thank you very much in advance if anyone can help me, or re-assure me that i'm over reacting and it's all a-ok

I7-8700k ($505 approx) apparently costs more than Ryzen 7 1800x ($499) so I had to go back to square one and am wondering how much of a difference in fps does the I7 7700k and Ryzen 7 1700x have, with a GTX 1080 Ti. I want real gaming fps numbers from demanding AAA titles, and I know this is too much of an overkill but at 1080p preferably. I'm not too much into editing or whatever but I want cores too, future games may end up being more cpu intensive (Crysis 3, Forza Horizon 3). I'm getting a 144hz monitor and want to squeeze out every fps that the 1080 ti can give but if the differences are within 20-30 fps, I'm cool with Ryzen. And also is there a guarantee that future titles would get equal fps on Ryzen 7 as it gets with the I7-7700k? Thanks in advance.

Both Ryzen chips are at the same price point of $299 at both Newegg and Amazon. Which processor would be the better investemnt? Important to consider is that I already own the Cryorig r1 Ultimate and it's AM4 upgrade kit is free from their website with proof of purchase or for $5 on Newegg. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4UF5MJ8774 (from Newegg) http://www.cryorig.com/getam4.php (from Cryorig support)

So I've just recently built my PC here are the specs. Gigabyte X370 Gaming 5 AMD RyZen 1700X @ Stock G.Skill Trident-Z 3000mhz CL16 @ Stock Corsair HX1000 Gigabyte VEGA 64 Liquid Edition @ Stock Windows 10-64BIT Home Drivers used 17.8.1 / 17.8.2 / 17.5.2 Ok the issue I'm facing is simple, Inconsistent and High Frametime but it happens randomly, at times the game may not be affected by it, while sometimes the moment I launch the game and while playing every few second my Frametime will spike up to least 50 - 100ms while maintaining a good Framerate. My CPU is all at max possible Clocks no drops. But I do notice sometimes the GPU Usage does drop to 0%. Most the games only happen at random and sometimes it wouldn't happen at all. For example I could play Doom for hours without issues, or it will just randomly spikes for a few seconds....causing massive lag...then back to normal as if nothing happened. I've check multiple times CPU Usage isn't at 100% ( Sometimes I caught that One of the Cores are, but not all ) Or sometimes the moment I launch Doom, while in game ( Not Menu, so far Menu never have issues it's always smooth for all games ) I be plagued by the issue and in Doom it's like it has a pattern, every 3 seconds or so it will spike really high then drop back down. But these two games it's guarantee to happen. Titanfall 2 and Killing Floor 2. Logically you would try swapping out the GPU which I did, I tried using my Fury from my previous system ( which play any games flawlessly ) same exact thing happened when I'm using VEGA 64 Liquid and I even tried older Driver 17.5.2 on the new system with my Fury which my previous system uses with my Fury. No fix. So these are ALL the solutions I've tried and so far no fix. Basically almost everything you can think of. 1) Rebuilt the entire system again from ground up. 2) Re-install Windows 10 ( So same for my Mobo's Chipset and Drivers etc ) 3) Disabled all Anti-Virus, Windows Defender etc 3) Check HDD / SSD Health and Benchmark it with Disk Mark / Disk Info 4) Ran stress test ( No random shut down so far at least ) 5) Ran benchmarks to check scores all passed and within the proper scores for both GPU and CPU 6) Check Voltages on PSU with AIDA64 no randomly Voltages drop ( Didn't stress it for overnight, dare not ) 7) Reset BIOS 8) Try switching PCIE lanes ( For both Fury and VEGA 64 ) 9) Disable Free Sync 10) Change Monitor Refresh rate to 60hz 11) Tried playing games with V-SYNC 12) Try changing D.P / HDMI cable. 13) Disabled Audio control panels ( Realtek / Sound Blaster ) 14) I didn't Daisy Chain my PSU 8P connector to my VEGA 64 for I heard it will not be enough power 15) Disk Defrag 16) Change RAM slots 17) Try playing with Single RAM ( interchange both sticks to make sure ) 18) Before you ask, no my PC isn't overheating.... EDIT : 19) Changed Power Plan to max ( RyZen Power Plan ) 20) Updated to latest BIOS F6 ( F7 is giving issues for Gaming 5 boards, avoid it ) For now I'm waiting two things to try. I would try to change my RAM and HDD to see if it solves the problem. But I got a feeling in my gut that, it could be my Mobo giving me problems ?? The last I can think of is CPU.... CPU and Mobo is something really hard to come by, who the hell will have a spare one lying around especially a RyZen and X370 or even B350 Mobo.... So what you guys think, is it POSSIBLE that the Mobo could be t he culprit ?? It feels like my GPU is having hard time playing catch up or it's being delay thus the high and spiking Frametime. Since I've done MULTIPLE Cinebench test for my CPU scores are good....I've even check Voltage for my CPU they are constant as well. But I can't see my GPU for VEGA 64 ( Sadly I've forgotten to check my Fury as well ) So what's everyone's opinion ?? Could it even be the PSU...?? That be weird...

I have a Ryzen 1700x shipping to me within the week, and was wondering if the +20c temp problem is still an issue? And if so, does it effect cpu fan speeds? If it's always reading that it's 20c hotter than it actually is, I imagine it's going to put things into jet-engine territory when actually doing anything stressful.

hey guys i just wanna share something with you guys that some of you may be interested in so i went to costco on sunday and was looking at the prebuilts and monitors that they had for lolz and i spotted the dell all amd prebuilt that linus covered recently and was like oh shit thats cool, so i went up to it and started reading the specs and saw that it had a ryzen 1700x unlike the one linus covered which had a 1400. then i saw that it had a rx570 4gb and was like oh shit again because those are around $300 to $400 right now so i was thinking this is sounding pretty good so far then i saw it has a 128gb ssd and a 1tb hd and was like ayy thats pretty gud then saw it had 12gb of ram which kinda perplexed me on why 12 and not 16 but whatever dell so im thinking this is a pretty gud upper midrange pc then i saw the price $899.99 on sale which looked pretty enticing so im going over in my mind if this prebuilt is worth the asking price or wait till ram, gpu and ssd prices stabilize what do you guys and gals think about this pc good deal or garbage? link for anyone who is interested:https://m.costco.com/Dell-Inspiron-Gaming-Desktop---AMD-Ryzen-7-1700X---4GB-Graphics.product.100370678.html

Hello everyone, so i've bought the AMD 1700x and a MSI B350 PC MATE motherboard with the HyperX 2133MHz DDR4 Ram. I now need a cooler, i will not overclock it. The cooler i want to be as cheap as possible but still perform. I'd like to stay under 80C under full load. Thanks in advance.

Kinda noob question. I notice that my 1700X, so far in games like Doom and Max Payne 3. I notice that ONE and only ONE of the 8 Cores and 16 Threads tend to run very high Usage, around 90 - 99%. Is this normal for this CPU? Total CPU Usage normally is only about 20 - 30%. I'm gaming on 1440p and Windows 10 if that matters. Paired with VEGA 64 Liquid and 16GB RAM @ 2133 (STOCK)

As title said, brand new PC brought home today, but strangely my 1700X is pegged at 3.7Ghz even Idling on Desktop ! It's running on 1.35V as well. It's Idling around 48 - 52C on Desktop with bit of load like Chrome / YouTube etc on a NH-U14S. Is this normal ?? I didn't OC my CPU or anything. I didn't actually build it, the Retail shop built it for me. I told them not to OC the CPU but I wonder if they did. Hello all! I know this has been presented a million times and I'm sure thousands of people have asked, but I'm just not knowledgeable enough yet to make a decision, and hours of online research has left me with Ryzen is good, Intel is good, both are good for what I want to do, maybe look at both. This of course has not helped me in ANY way whatsoever. I trust this community, and if possible, would like some input on what I should do. I will explain below: -Computer's main purpose is to game, record/stream, video production (rare), and basic use -Minor understanding of overclocking, I did overclock my current CPU manually to 4.3Ghz (I think, I'm not home at the time of posting this) -Currently running two 1080p monitors. One at 144hz and another at 60hz. Upgrading main monitor to 1440p will most likely be happening next year. -Periodically run ARK, Minecraft, etc. servers for a group of up to 5-10 people at one time. -Need something to take advantage of my current build after replacing MOBO, CPU, and RAM. AMD is new territory for me, and I'm not asking for a tutor, but I'm not sure how hard maintenance and updates are on the CPU, and it's the first time myself, or my group of friends for that matter, would be working with one. I would love to support AMD, but it's also a comfort vs unexplored balance with money on the line. Current split decision is an i7-7700K or a Ryzen 1700X. Will most likely be using DDR4-2400 RAM and will be purchasing a new MOBO as well (obviously). Looking to stay under $600, preferably $550. I have a Microcenter I'll be picking everything up at. Here is a link to my CURRENT build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LQKwbj I really appreciate all of your opinions and help, and I will be making a decision this Friday! Thanks, Dan

I want to start my second personal build and would like as many opinions as I can get on whether I should buy into AMD with a 1700X or stick with Intel with an 8700K? Please vote using my StrawPoll link. http://www.strawpoll.me/14119535

So i know the 1800x is obviously better BUT is getting the 1800x vs the 1700x worth the price difference?

Hello! I've noticed in the HWMonitor that when I boot my computer the VID voltage is different than last time when I was using my computer. I also ask what really is that VID voltage related to the CPU? It doesn't change when using computer. It can be at 1.319V (currently) and the highest that it have been is 1.35V and it's different almost everytime when I boot computer. CPU is overclocked to 3.9GHz with 1.4V VCORE.(if that means something) Picture from HWMonitor:

Hey all, I have recently built a system mostly for video editing and light gaming. Went for 1700x hoping I will be able to overclock it. I paired it with Asus Prime x-370 Pro mb, Dark Rock 3 cooler with Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200mhz memory. Also, I have GTX 1080. Anyway, I can barely get a stable 3,75Ghz out of my system while most of what I read says 3.9-4.0 should be pretty easy. First of all - cooling. Dark Rock 3 cannot be mounted horizontally so now I mounted it to blow from top to bottom. First, I had the GPU in primary PCI-E slot, but now I moved it to the second one, because the gap was so small. Performance didn't suffer (at least according to RealBench), but temps are a bit better now during RealBench stress testing (max I get around 83 C CPU Tdie according to HWInfo or 103 C CPU Tcle). Now when I think about the mounting of the fan, I should have mounted it blowing up, so will try this next. Another thing - overclock settings. I have CPU voltage set to offset mode +0.031** which gives me 1.38***V in BIOS readout. Also I have CPU LLC Level 1 selected. Heres the interesting part - in AIDA64 I get voltage readings from 1.36 to 1.428 during stress testing in different apps, but HWInfo shows much lower CPU Voltage. Which one should I trust? AIDA64 seems to be closer to BIOS readout, but if HWInfo is correct it would be no surprise that I am not able to get stable 3.8Ghz OC on my CPU. Any ideas or recommendations? P.S. My memory is running at 3200mhz, but I tried it at default 2133 while going for 3.8Ghz overclock but it did not go. P.P.S. My case is Fractal Define R5. I have the top covers opened to maximize air flow.

So here's how a series of unfortunate events unfolded for me just this week. It was supposed to be just an upgrade. My old rig was... - i7 4790k - ASRock z97 Anniversary - Crucial Ballistix XT Sport 16GB (4x 4GB) It was awesome and worked for any game I played on it. But I was itching to upgrade one day and so I bought... - Ryzen 7 1700X - Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming 3 - EVGA DDR4-3000 16GB (2x 8GB) I brielfly played CSGO only on it and it was fine performance-wise but I noticed the temps wildly fluctuated to the point it would shoot way high and a thermal shut down occurred. I tried troubleshooting for a day but ended up hitting a brick wall. To make a long story short, my suspicion was the motherboard's CPU temp sensor was defective. I didn't want to deal with it anymore nor did I want to wait and find out what was wrong with that set up. I just wanted my system to work. I decided to return everything except for the RAM. Now my current set up is... - i7 7700k - ASRock z270 Fatal1ty K4 - EVGA DDR4-3000 16GB (2x 8GB) Last night I played some CSGO with friends and for some reason, even with the same config files and same settings, the fps dipped even when there's not much action and I experience some skipping/lag because of it. This didn't happen with the old build or the brief fling I had with Ryzen. The temps also get pretty high with only 40-50% load. At idle, my 7700k sit at about 40*C. It ramps up to 90*C as soon as I hit about 40-50% utilization and it stays there. The case, PSU, GPU and water cooler AIO are still the same. Those are the bits I didn't upgrade though I will be upgrading my GPU soon. I have a Strix GTX 970 and a Corsair H100i GTX. Any ideas?
